How-To video for the 4 screw fuel pump

This is a video I did to explain how to rebuild one of these 4 screw fuel pumps. It's not very long, but it may help someone that is a little reluctant to do the job at home. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I noticed something that I left out, and that has to do with the pumps that use a 6 screw top cover. If your pump has that, when you order a kit, make sure to mention that fact.

    Problems throttling up when cold

Hello, my c160 seems to have problems throttling up when cold. It will start okay but when I throttle it, it will stall if I don't turn the throttle back down. After its warmed up it will throttle up okay. It will also backfire if I throttle down too quickly from full throttle. I cleaned the carburetor and adjusted the valve to tappet clearance. The exhaust side was set okay but the intake side was much wider than it was supposed to be. The adjustments didn't seem to change anything. I also cleaned the cylinder head and put in a new gasket. The bore looks really good, no scoring. I noticed there are air bubbles in the fuel line after the fuel pump (line pictured). Also, after I shut it off air will enter the line right before the fuel pump. Is the fuel pump something I can clean and rebuild? I didn't want to mess with it because I don't have parts if I tear a gasket. Are these problems that need to be fixed before using the tractor? I just got it last fall and have not yet used it other than testing it out a little. The grass is starting to grow now so I'd like to get it going good. It seems to run and function fine when warmed up.

    Bogging Down

Hello, I have a D 200. It has been running great, I was having a hard time starting it and I replace the filter and fuel pump. Adjusted the carb, and now under heavy load she will bog down and stall. If you are just driving seams fine, but if you tow a trailer with the mower, I boggs and stalls? Carb Issue or Fuel Pump? Thoughts? Thank you Brian

    314-8 GT starting issues

Hi all, I stumbled across this forum while trying to diagnose an issue with a 314-8 GT my dad handed down to me when he bought a new one this past spring. He purchased it in August, 1997 and it has been used for general yard work and lawn mowing. It has had a great life so far with no major issues until late last summer when all of a sudden it would not start. The engine would turn, but not fire up. After some playing around with the carb, I determined that it was not getting fuel when trying to start. However, I would just manually add fuel to the bowl to start it, and it would start right up. Once it started, it got fuel no problem and would run great for hours while cutting grass. A week would go by and I would have to do the same manual adding of fuel to get it to start, but it would run fine again. This went on all summer as I had no time to really look at it. I just assumed it had something to do with the ignition system not activating the fuel pump, but once it turned over, the fuel pump worked as designed. Then one day toward the end of the summer, I turned the key and nothing. No crank at all. The battery is still good and the lights on the panel would light up, but the engine would not turn or even make a sound. In searching the forum, I think I have narrowed it down to ignition module, starter, or solenoid. However, I don't want to order parts that I may not need so I am hoping to get some experienced guidance. My thoughts are that the two issues described above are related. Perhaps the fuel issues in the middle of the summer were symptoms of a part going bad, but still able to limp along. The final issue of not starting was when the part finally gave out. Or, perhaps they are not related and I have multiple things to look into. I would greatly appreciate any information and/or advice. If this is in the wrong forum, I apologize. I thought it would go best in the engine since I am not entirely sure what the issue is.

    Onan P220 Fuel Pump

Hi, I have a Toro mower with an Onan P220 engine that won't start after sitting for a year. Last year I had a Toro dealer clean and rebuild the carb because it was surging. It ran fine for a while but the surging happened once or twice, not as much as it used to. It will start and run if I put gas or starter fluid into the carb but once that's removed it stops. I've replaced the fuel filter and narrowed down what I think the problem is to the fuel pump because I don't see any gas coming out of it. There is a clear line from the gas tank to the pump and I tried priming the line with gas. I can feel a slight suction on the intake of the pump when I crank it but I'm not sure its right. The back of the pump has what I think is a vacuum line attached. There isn't much play in it and it disappears behind the blower housing. Where does it connect to the engine? I'm thinking it might have a leak and need to replace it. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks...ed
