Do you guys have linoleum over there?

Used to be a popular floor covering, it was made in Glasgow Scotland. An area not known for its ability in the English language.

They say it was not a good seller in Scotland because of this..

Scot goes into carpet shop;

" I'd like a rome of melonium, please, a loll of renolium, a moan of remolinum,  oh bugger it, give me a roll of carpet!"

My understanding is the true "linoleum" production here in the States stopped long ago but I also think I read that someone started it up again.  The word "Linoleum" has become the "Kleenex" of rolled flooring, mostly vinyl now.  (Many/most, over here ask for a "Kleenex" when they want a facial tissue.  Sort of like "Coke" often just means a cola.

I decided to have a go at making an ornament from scratch out of aluminum, aluminium, amulinimum. Whatever...

Started out with a biggish piece so I could grip it on the milling machine.

20210320_110512.jpg.94e61e0b741d0de369addf897c72235a.jpgMachined the taper on both sides, then milled the angled faces, then did a lot of abrasive belt work to blend and polish.

20210320_141856.jpg.68877860bd9242fd980ccf6031842158.jpgLooks pretty decent scale wise and im happy overall for a mornings work.

Very Nice! And I like that shop floor too!

I will polish it with special metal protecting wax. Never had much success with clear coat or layering.

@ebinmaineSince we go off topic a lot, One of my high school/college jobs was working for a flooring company owned by a old fellow with a strong German background. Learned lots of good hard work ethics and a few German curse words. Stomped in (as he would say) a lot of Vinyl and carpet.  O, and those little old “swinea wry” bathroom jobs as he would call them

Niw back to your favorite

You really could sell the heck outta those Mick!

In my humble opinion that solid aluminum construction is an upgrade from the factory die cast!

Might oxidize but wouldnt rust under most conditions, etc.

Ill get the exact dimensions of the original factory one to ya mick. Between what randy got me and measurements of an original i have all the specs.(the ornament bases I do are larger than original but i have spot on specs) and a spot on 3d model.

Mine is 5 and 3/4 inches long, 5/16 wide and an inch tall.

Its a complex shape of angles and curves to get it looking right.

If it looks good no need to change it. When I got my hands on an actual ornament i was amazed at how tiny it seemed! If i designed an ornament to promote my brand, it would be standin pround and a main feature. The little one seems more like an afterthought.

I’m building a lowered 300 series wheelhorse. So far it’s a combination of 3 scrap tractors.
the frame, trans and tins are from a GT2500 anniversary special given to me by a neighbor with a trashed Briggs. The Kohler M12 is from a junkyard 312 that was roached. The parts tractor I’m using for the build was another older 312. I’ve got the k301 in the garage. The trans was toast. Both axles wallowed out keyways and 1 axle actually broken.
Anyway! I needed a project and a toy to putt around the neighborhood. I couldn’t find any other posts on how to do the whole thing. I’m trying to keep it cheap using stuff I have on hand and looking as “stock but cooler” as possible. So here we go.
I’ll update this as I go along.
