PETG is indeed supposed to just print. The PETG parts I have seen have a very nice finish and I have a buddy that runs the stuff almost constantly with one of the Multi Material units and makes multi color items that are very nice. I have some PETG coming in my next shipment and will be setting my backup printer for PETG.

With ABS I have to get just the right "squish" on that first layer. Has to lay down really thin and almost transparent on the heated bed. Id say I probably adjust that layer to .002 of an inch. It's to the point I have to adjust for the tolerance of the tempered glass bed. That first layer can tell the glass Isn't perfectly flat. If i throw my level off it takes a couple hours to get it back just right. That being said, once I'm on, it prints that first layer and stays flat as a pancake with no adhesive, just bare glass and does it over and over.

Anyone have the scoop on a hood ornament shaped roughly like the sketch?

Buddy says its from a "no name" horse.

About 2 inches long.

"No name" horses were the ones built in 1973.

Nick-named so because Wheelhorse used the HP and transmission to name the model number of each one.

The hood ornament of that year was the same as all the others.

Off the printer this morning with my painting practice head...need to adjust the pivot a mm or 2, and reinforce the tail a bit.

Perhaps a custom?

I'd be curious as well.

Is it my imagination or does something about the stein remind ya of the starship Enterprise?

Flip the lid over, add a couple outrigger nacelles, and I can market to other Trekies!

Working on @rjg854 s full painted ornament...

Loving the Model Master gloss enamel paints.

The "chrome silver" is especially better looking than any spray ive found. My soldering helping hands are holding everything just right for 24hrs of drying between portions.

Model Masters "Chrome Silver FS17178" beside some other shiny stuff.

While definately not chrome like the valadium socket, still id say close to brushed stainless at least.

Ok heres another idea! Most folks already have a very nice factory ornament with good chrome.

Are the factory one's ferrous enough for a magnet to stick?(i never thought about them being ferrous or not when i had mine!)

If so, i can modify the head to eliminate the tab and nest on top of the factory ornament with a magnet in its base.(completely incased in the ABS so it wouldnt mar the hood ornament finish)

Then you simply pop on the topper or pop ir off!

No changing your factory ornament, and it works for the purist as well!

I have some rare earth magnets around here somewhere!

Die cast - non ferrous.

Others have made a mold then cast the mascot in tow parts resin.

Well durn. Nonferrous! I guess just keep on keeping on! That would have been nice to allow folks to attach in a noninvasive manner to the existing ornament.

I’m building a lowered 300 series wheelhorse. So far it’s a combination of 3 scrap tractors.
the frame, trans and tins are from a GT2500 anniversary special given to me by a neighbor with a trashed Briggs. The Kohler M12 is from a junkyard 312 that was roached. The parts tractor I’m using for the build was another older 312. I’ve got the k301 in the garage. The trans was toast. Both axles wallowed out keyways and 1 axle actually broken.
Anyway! I needed a project and a toy to putt around the neighborhood. I couldn’t find any other posts on how to do the whole thing. I’m trying to keep it cheap using stuff I have on hand and looking as “stock but cooler” as possible. So here we go.
I’ll update this as I go along.
