WVHillbilly520H 10,376 #113 Posted January 1, 2020 (edited) @PeacemakerJack @pullstart. @JCM @elcamino/wheelhorse Bringing in the new year with this ole rig... Took another load of firewood over to my parents today all went well over and most the way back about 35 miles or so home I stopped for some gas left out made the 2-3 shift and the rails locked up in neutral could budge the shifter sitting have way in the lane of travel and the shoulder, knocked on the door of a house next to where it stopped he pulled out of harm's way while I popped the shifter out and pried the fork/rail back to allow shifting and on my merry way home all before dark... BTW 10+mpg there and back and see the elevation on the mountain ... Happy New Year! Edited January 1, 2020 by WVHillbilly520H 5

JCM 10,028 #118 Posted April 19, 2020 Love those GM chassis cabs 2 or 4 wheel drive, they get the job done and look and sound good while doing it.

Well the 79 was "cheap" enough and has yet not done what was asked of it... But I will say from close friends that Duramax/Allison is hard to beat loaded and sipping the fuel... That ole 454 likes to drink the dead dinosaurs like they're going outta style empty or loaded. 2
Pullstart 64,878 #123 Posted April 23, 2020 You can buy a lot of fuel for that 454 with the monthly payment of a brand new rig... ask me how I know... That “Red Hot” is the red I wanted in my new Silverado, but the dealer found everything else I was looking for in the “Cajun Red” that I ended up with... 2
WVHillbilly520H 10,376 #124 Posted April 23, 2020 @pullstart, so after a a few weeks with the Turbo 4... What's your thoughts on it as a "truck" engine? vs the tried and true 5.3L V8.
Pullstart 64,878 #125 Posted April 23, 2020 Jeff, it’s surely a truck! When pulling the dump box, you can tell it’s there and economy suffers. It’s using all the horse powers for sure! Driving around town, running here and there, etc... it’s excellent! That’s what we have it for and it’ll do just dandy for such an occasion. On the other hand, I’m excited to get Norman out of storage and have him on the road again! When I was 17 or so, I bought a ‘96 VW Jetta. I had numerous Digifant I and II series VDubs. I gave the “new” Jetta to my brother to borrow while I bombed around in my ‘81-‘83 VW Rabbit with the 1.6 Diesel. It was unpredictable and dirty and noisy and a blast to drive over the modern automatic car. Shortly after I got myself a pickup and never went back to cars. Some times I question why I bought a brand new vehicle in the first place when I could’ve gone down south for a nice 4x4 that was 10-20 years old like I did for Norman... but the past is the past. I’m happy to have my new truck but don’t plan to continue that pattern forever!
