Hello, Have a C-161 Manual transmission Kohler engine.
I had been mowing a good bit and thought I would wash grass and dirt off it. Well apparently got something wet and now may have shorted something out. After drying out, something is still wrong it tried to start a couple of time, but now nothing, unless I use two jumpers from the switch connector (and I even replaced switch and still have issue). It will start and run and lights will work etc. except with way I have it jumper-ed it won't shut off unless you disconnect the 1st jumper.
To start and keep it running, use two jumper wires from the switch connector (five blade). 1st. jumper wire from the black wire to the positive on the battery and 2nd jumper wire from red wire to positive on the battery to engage the starter to start it. hope that makes sense, see pictures (Note - the amp meter was showing charging even though switch off and even disconnected, so to rule the amp meter I by passed it.). Did the the one relay block get too wet and short out? Other side note, have had some issues with mice and even had a black snake in it this morning, guess it was looking for food. Do not see any wires chewed, and it was running fine until hosed off dirt and grass clippings.
Thoughts or suggestions??
Thanks.

So last fall I got this Dynamark riding mower for free. Engine ran but when you stepped on the clutch/brake it wouldn't disengage. Looking at it I noticed it was a new drive belt. I figured PO got the wrong belt so I looked up what I thought would be the correct belt and ordered it. When it came I removed the belt that was on it and it looked to be the exact same size as the new one. Put new one on and same thing. That was an 82 inch belt. So I looked again and saw that a similar model had an 85 inch belt so I ordered one of those..... close but no cigar ! Now I ordered an 86 inch and are waiting for it. In the mean time I noticed water had gotten into the gas tank. The gas cap was the style with a gage but the bubble is busted off. Since the cap goes through the hood on top water leaks in. I need a new cap but having the same issues finding correct one. I don't need one with a gauge just one the screws on tight. Any help works be appreciated as I am finding multiple part numbers.

I’ve decided to start this thread to keep this info together. It’s about this C-161 I have.
It showed up at my house one day around mid-2021 as a “parts” tractor.
I had no idea this was going to be left at my door, abandoned, tired, unwanted. I can’t remember a lot of what I was being told about it as I was staring at it wondering why I was chosen, apparently, as the one who was to strip it of it’s organs and transplant them into some other “being”.
By the time those who brought it left, even though I never said it until just now, I knew I was going to attempt to resuscitate her.
No longer an “it” she was certainly worthy of a shot at another life. 16 HP Kohler, Sunstrand Hydro and hydraulic lift! I had already fallen in love with the C-100 I grew up with that I later inherited, but this girl had something extra, something different about her that I thought was …
appealing.
Parts tractor? Not if I can $@%# help it!
She was glistening. Maybe it had something to do with the rain that day on the ride over. But she IS glistening!

Well fellas I may be going to the dark side. Going to look at one tomorrow. You know the story, ran a couple years ago when parked. Now no spark. Has mower deck with new blades and belt. Tires have new tubes. Has the plastic rear fenders/ seat pan that's busted up. I have no experience with the kohler twin. I know you like pictures but don't have any. Any helpful suggestions on what I need to look at tomorrow? Any idea what a replacement metal seat pan / rear fender unit will run? Worth ? I'd like to save it but really don't have the room for another but that's never stopped me before. Like to hear all your input. Thanks

So yesterday I picked-up a C175. She was rusting away as she was stored outside. She had a new to her Kohler K341. @squonk The previous owner indeed better had"LET AN ELECTRICIAN CHECK his SHORTS!" as bad wiring shorted the battery out, and exploded/melted. She has a Sundstrand hydro pump with a Filter, is that normal? By the pump I believe it's a 1980. But you never now for sure as it's made in Oevel. Due to the bad wiring, the engine was in no running condition. But don't think the K341 has many hours on it. The hydro I don't know if it works. She was hard to push. So i lift up one wheel, so we could roll here one one wheel and the diff prevented the trans from locking up.
So first things to do:
1) get the engine running
2) replace the steering wheel, but don't think removing it will be very hard as it's already split in two.
3) replace the axleseals, the oil leak caused a lot of sandbuild up as she was mainly used on for leveling out a horse track.
4) clean all the acid and remove all the old wiring to do a full rewiring
5) replace the plastic seat pan with a metal.
6)...
I'm looking forward on my first C.
It's also my first hydro, I don't know a lot about them and prefer actual gears. Simpler and need less maintenance (parts-shortage).
But since I couldn't find another project WH and me hearing a lot of good things about hydro's on the forum.. I finally took the shot.
