Well, I wasn't planning on this purchase, but the listing was relatively close, and I thought it would be a quick fun project. I was also thinking it might be a good machine to leave up on some property to cut grass with once or twice a month. It came with an extra set of ag tires, wheel weights, a brinly cultivator, brinly moldboard plow, and snow plow. The 42" SD deck had new spindles put on it that are the newer style, so I'm pretty excited about that. I was excited to get it home and see what was under all that dirt! So I got the pressure washer out, and washed the dirt off. I accidentally blew the C120 stickers off with the pressure washer, but I contacted @Vinylguy and he is going to hook me up. It looks like a nice machine! It was repainted once before, but they didn't do a bad job. The new china carb should be here on Friday, so once it arrives, i'll start messing with it. I can't wait to hear it run! I included pictures of it sitting at the previous owners house, loaded up on the trailer, and after it was pressure washed.

I had my 753 at Portage last weekend. It was my 1st time at the show and it was great to meet all the fellow wheelhorse people.

This saw is amazing! Here are pictures immediately after the cut. There are virtually zero burrs, just a clean sharp edge! I rigged a low pressure air line to clear the fence of chips to keep the cut smooth.

Update on Scottie Scottie and I headed to St. Mary's in Rochester for his reconstructive surgery. This reconstructive surgery was to re-connect his bladder to his urethra. However, upon our arrival I received a phone call from his pediatric urologist asking us if we had left home yet, as they were having equipment malfunctions. I informed the surgeon that we were already at St. Mary's and that we were about to check in. He informed me that he was trying to get the other robot from the emergency department operating room and that he would call me back. We checked in and went upstairs and upon our arrival, the nursing staff had no clue what was going on with the robot malfunction. I informed them that Scott's surgery maybe cancelled and they went ahead and checked him in. I did receive another phone call from the pediatric urologist informing me that he could not get the robot from the emergency department and that we had to reschedule his surgery next week or the following week. Lowell, Scott and I were relieved as to the surgeon's decision to cancel his surgery. I was told that the robot was an important part of his surgery today and they did not want to risk the chance of him being cut open and the robot failing 20 or so minutes into the procedure and then not being able to complete the procedure. I found out today that our hospital stay will be for 4 days or longer depending on Scottie's bowels and if he can regulate them or if he has control of them. I will know more in the next upcoming days and will keep you posted. Thank you for all the prayers! We surely do appreciate them and everyone of you! Here is Scottie at Portage with Peacemaker Jack's Boys hanging out in our trailer. Thank you!

Today—“Vader”(the super-C) is my jobsite tool caddy today as we are redecking the deck on our house. When Kelli and I built it in 2002, it was just the two of us. Now I have three helpers and I’m thankful for them... Caleb is helping with the reconstruction and the littles are removing the nails from the old boards...

I have a customer who is looking to put together a table for his conference room at an investing firm. There will be a lot of potential for new clients in my shop if this turns out how we planned. This is because of conversing about Frank’s tool box that landed this job! I picked up a plate of 3/8” thick 5’ x 10’ cold rolled steel to build the table base. The top is coming from a tree that he felled on his property and had a local sawyer mill some slabs, kiln dry them and marry two halves together. The live edge slab is 3” thick, 9’ long and 56-60” wide. I am going to build the base, bring it to his office to test fit the office, then bring it back to the shop to finish the wiring channels and a PC compartment below the table top. We have taken approach to every aspect of the job with precision wood layout and card stock models! Time to figure out my sines, cosines and tangents, get out the new Milwaukee metal cutting saw and get to work! I am going to attempt to rough cut the plate, score the bends, cut it all to size, make the bends with some heated persuasion, weld the gaps back up, grind it smooth and keep it all from warping some how. There will be a top strap to attach the table top with threaded inserts and floor adjusters as well.

It's difficult to change old habits. I left the western Pa mountains in 1961, but I still catch myself warshing my truck and changing the oral occasionally.

I know the paint job is a desecration. By chance I was able to acquire this. Any thoughts? Year, rarity, value? Original tires....?

Hello all, it has been a hot minute... or years since I've been on the site. I have a '72 Charger 10 that I started work on about 3 years ago and unfortunately never finished due to lots of other projects, events and my own procrastination. The tractor is in need of some serious work still and now that I have time and money I can get the poor thing back on its own four wheels. I first have to find quite a few parts but it's nothing I can't do. I need to rebuild the engine as well but right know getting all the bodies parts back togther is my priority.

Looks like a '61 model 701 to me. Well worth saving.

I currently have five 520's one of which is a HC. All run very well with their original Onan engines. I have never had an Onan fail on me. I did buy a 416 with a bad Onan where the front cyl. lost it's seat so badly it could not be repaired. I also have a 312H and a 17-44 Cleat

Welcome to Redsquare @Fireguy0311! That 656 should be powered by a Tecumseh engine. I had good luck tossing a Kohler carb on it, as the Tecky’s are known for being hard to tune.

I have three 520H tractors with 1000 to 1500 hours on them. They were worked rather hard with a loader, 60" deck, 42" & 44" snowblowers as well as numerous smaller attachments. One engine had low compression in one cylinder so I bought a spare engine. Turned out that the low compression only needed a minor valve grinding to restore the compression. Now the spare, it turned out to be a dud with a loose valve seat. I replaced the seat and did a complete valve job, as well as other things, Shortly after installing it, the governor ball spacer became loose and engine speed could not be controlled. I repaired the governor and it is currently being used daily. The 1991 I bought new, the 1996 had 800 hours and the 1997 had 300.

I've owned three 520H's, An 88, a 93, and a 95. The 93 was shot, I mowed with it for a year and sold it. My 95 is in beautiful condition, 310 hours, and I have it set up with a cab and two stage for snow blowing. My 1988 is a back up mower for my 522xi. What a capable tractor. I bought all of them used. Lots of work done on them over the years.

This is not a bad one, but thanks to @lawnman_56 early one morning when a train was coming by at Portage garden tractor Daze blowing his horn, he started to sing and now the tune is stuck

If you have clear space on each side of the driveway plow down the middle then out. Push way off the driveway so you have room for subsequent snowfalls. Frozen plow piles are not easy to move.

Used to make a game out of getting this into someone's head while we were working on construction sites. All I did was hum it for a little bit and by the end of the day some of the guys would be singing it out loud. Most of the time not even realizing they were doing it. Even saw the imitation of a whip arm movement going once in a while while they were singing it. Then it was like a virus and quite a few guys would be singing it for days. Probably get someone reading this thread too if they listen to it! LoL

ADHD meds are a good thing, but definitely have their drawbacks and weight loss is one of the biggest. Emory has to have it to focus during class, but we feel like summer is his time to be a kid. I hope he can come off of them later as he matures. He’ll be starting back in August. I just hope he maintains his weight gain!

I have a 1989 520-H. Bought back in March clean all the dirt and grass out of it made half dozen electrical repaires New tires and tie rods. It came with a 42" deck that I also repaired. I was given a 85 model 48" deck by a friend that was in good shape so I painted it and put it on the 520. It's now sharing the mowing with my C-120/180.

I have 3 with about 500 hours showing each.Only one was running when I got it and it had an Onan b43g from a 70s Sears tractor.I have 2 that have had alternate power plants on them. One had a 16 horse Kohler and one has a 13 horse Predator.I built another tractor for loader service which is equivelent to a 520-8 except Kohler power and 312A sheet metal. I like my Onans but only have one running as of yet.

I bought my first one brand new in Feb of 1998 a 50th anniversary edition, Now has 760+ hours was used to mow 2+/- acres (plus sweep clippings after)for the first 7 years and either push a 50" snow blade or spin a 42" tall chute single stage thrower for approximately a 250-300 dirt driveway also, then moved mowing a 4 acre lot with a 200 ft steep concrete drive for 1 year, then moved again mowing 1-2 acres with 1/4 mile dirt/gravel/sandstone driveway for the next 6 or so years, then moved here about 7 years ago to mow a hilly 3 acres with about 200-300' of asphalt driveway got a cab and a 2stage blower...also did gardening and driveway repairs in the 14-15 years in WV, The engine has never been tore down except for an ignition trigger and module...was never worried about a valve seat issue as I did really knew they existed until I found RedSquare , I had 3 520s at one point in time, Now just 2 the other is a '95 with under 400 hrs that I bought with 237 and looked like 2370 hrs of setting uncovered outside.. I'm a firm believer in the Onans and just not the best wiring from TORO...of course now I have a Mahindra eMax 22G that I now with and hopefully get last year's score (Kubota Blade and blower) converted over play in the snow.

They are identical size and interchangeable, I think I found them in two transmissions but it has been awhile.... They are torrington J-1816 instead of the normal B-1816 full complement.

Steve most trannies i have opened have had full complement needle bearings some have a spacer ring and only about half as many needles. maybe the reason for the different part numbers???

Like Bob said...the 1976/77 8-speed horses all used the 8 pinion differential with 1 1/8" axles. They are the strongest. They used the#5091 and the #103916 transmissions. To know what the differences may be between those 2 transmissions, you have to go through the parts list. The only difference I saw...the #5091 uses the #1526 outer axle bearing and the #103907 uses #105219. What that means...you got me. #1526 is the same as KOYO # B-1816 and measures 1 1/8" x 1 3/8" x 1".........I'll bet the #105219 measures the same thing. Why do I think that?? The case halves and the axles are the same part numbers in both transmissions. The rest of the internals are all the same.

I have a "parts" transmission. Let me know what gears you need. I'll help out if I can

Hi, got one more. sorry that it‘s in German.... But just the Sound tell‘s everything. 😂
  38. 2 points
All the C-8 speeds have the 8 pinion transmission with 1 1/8" axles. The 76 & 77 B's do as well. As long as yours hasn't been swapped you have the toughest transmission they made.

Absolutely fascinates me how a lot of midwesterners add Rs where they shouldn't be and a lot of New Englanders take them all out. It's amazing we can speak to each other at all.

@The Tool Crib I think it was maple, but it might have been oak. Like saying I ate pizza, or salad last night... I know. I haven’t seen the slab yet, I’m going on measurements only. So... this is why we plan before we cut. My math tells me my plate is a bit too short. We will increase angle “c” to trim up side “H”. Maybe I should go double check the length of the plate first!

Your first plowing is probably your most critical. You'll want to get the snow pushed back far enough so that you have room for the next snow falls.

My wife and experienced the same thing. My son was very ADHD and when he went on meds he came home and said"Mom, I listened to my brain today!" He went off went he was a teen and struggled but made through school and is doing pretty good today. He could probably still use them, but gets by. My quit when she was a teen and has done great, her senior year was straight A's. Both gained weight, but have leveled out now. We have a friend who has to take them as an adult, he lost job after job until he did. Don't like the meds, but have there place.

I’ve never heard most of these. I just want to know how often you’re singing these because you can’t think of a better song to put in your ear waves? This first one is my ear worm contribution, the girls found it while we were driving the other day, they didn’t know what a one man band truly was. The rest, just to cure your heads of all that nonsense previously posted!

Since nothing came out, i suspect your transmission has a layer of heavy gear oil/crud on the bottom. Poke a heavy wire or stick up in there to see if it will start to drain. Also sounds like that transmission may need to be flushed. since it's already on jack stands, fill it with 2-3 quarts diesel or kerosene, run tractor in each gear for 5-10 minutes. for a complete drain you want to raise the front of the tractor to get it to drain over the hump in the bottom of the transmission.

I think I fixed my slipping PTO by pulling the drive pulley a little further away from the engine, more adjustment added to the PTO rod, and deck spins fast like a kitten!!!

I bought an “Oogha” horn exactly like this from David Brown while we were at the Portage show. Another RedSquare member that’s not real fond of my horns on the stretch said, “It sounds like a sick bull moose mating call” To which I replied, “I know, Ain’t it cool!!’ I plan to put the new moose call on my GT-14.
