Today I finally got around to finishing up my generator mount for the 7200 watt generator head I got from HF years ago. With the pulley and belt I had on hand, the tractor runs at 2500 RPM to spin the generator up to the speed to achieve 125-ish volts. I ran 25 amps of load off of it and noticed a slight dip in engine speed and voltage drop to 120. I know that I'll need to get a larger pulley on the generator and a slightly longer belt to accommodate that so I can increase the engine speed a bit, but I am pleased with the results.

Went to pick up a rear discharge deck today. Ignore the dirt and grime, it's been in a shed for some years. Paint on the top is quite good, but the paint underneath is very flaky, due to being on an earthen floor. Shell is good and solid with no sign of rot. It seems as it's had very little use as the blades are very sharp and keen, with everything moving freely. A good clean, repaint underneath and I reckon it will be good to go. After loading it into the back of the Disco, the seller mentioned a plough hidden at the back of the shed. He said he thought it was a Brinly. Of course I had to have a look. Lo and behold it was. So that found itself keeping the deck company for the ride to their new home. The share is not rusty. It's got a liberal coating of grease. The deck was on a C-125, also in need of a new home. But discretion being the better part of valour, I thought I'd decline the offer of it.

Called up about a Wheel Horse for sale he was about 30 miles away. Went and looked over and brought it home. 1989 520 H with a 42" mower base need a few things. Steering wheel center cap, handle on the Idler few rust spots here and there small hole in the deck and the hydro needs adjusting. It wants to back up with the control centered.

That is actually an old Pontiac dealer sticker on the hood. We left it because it tells part of the tractor’s history. Don’t know if anyone noticed, but I found a 1 piece tank and put on it. I put a new gasket on the old tank and it still started leaking after sitting a few days. It had a few old repairs and I think there might have been some hairline cracks. I had sealed the tank with sealer and it failed. Someone had made a replacement bottom when they fixed the tank and it seemed to cause the failure. I sealed a 754 tank at the same time and it is fine. I painted a “patina” on the tank and it looks pretty good with the theme Emory picked. I wanted to paint the wheels white, but Emory insisted on black. I can’t take credit for the wheels, that was all Emory. Boy knows what he wants!

Well, I finally found time to finish Emory’s 633. I found that the pulse pump will lose its prime after sitting for a while. The crankcase pulse doesn’t seem strong enough to overcome the resulting vacuum lock in the pulse pump. I added a marine primer bulb and bam, problem solved. Once running the pulse pump does it’s job without any problem.

Thanks for the tips guys! Seals are on order; i'll be replacing all-4. The garage was a balmy 45 degrees today so I tried to get as much painting in as possible... with another cold streak just over the horizon. More tractor incubation in our the basement "crafts room" Finally figured out what the InStride 1350 "does". And another personal milestone in the Red Square gauntlet... manual removal of 38 year old dry-rotted tires. I only slammed my shin with the tire iron once. ^^^ I had to cut the sidewall on the really crusty one. Heaven in a plastic jug:

I just inherited a lot of National Geographic’s and I found a couple of ads in them. I forgot to take pictures of the two that I found. I do remember that they are May of 1960 and May 1967. The 67 ad I have never seen, and I will post a picture of it. My question is does anyone know of any particular issues that I should look for to find more of the ads? I’m not looking to sell the ads to make money and I’ve tried to give away the magazines because I’m not going to keep them. I just don’t want to throw away any good advertising. Unfortunately I’m missing a lot from the 70s that I would like. Thanks for any help.

I finally made up my mind and purchased a lift and I’m so glad I did. My knees and back are happy also. It is so much nicer than crawling around on a cold, hard concrete floor. I appreciated everyone’s suggestions as to the advantages and disadvantages of getting a lift.

Here is a good place to begin the search for a tie rod. If you are not sure what will fit give Lowell a call, super nice guy and he will help you. https://www.wheelhorsepartsandmore.com/steering.html#!/Steering/c/23548038/offset=0&sort=normal

One thing I always do when rebuilding these two cushion seats. I cover the edges of the inner plates with duct tape to prevent the damage that you have on your back cushion. My Commando 8 seat built from scratch.

Thanks Craig. Every decision on this one was Emory’s choice. He enjoys fixing things his own way, even though I don’t always agree with his choices. I’m proud of him and the fact that he has the interest and know what he wants!

If you don't want to struggle with 'Do It Yourself" sewing, find a furniture upholstery shop or car upholstery shop nearby. There are some jobs that should be farmed out to someone with more experience. The job will turn out better. Jim

Pfrederi has got the E12 and the Charger covered. Electro as stated was sort of a blinged out Charger. They only came as a 12hp model. 68's usually had a magneto ignition, 69 the cursed Solid State, and 70 had a battery coil .. and a little mixing between each model year. The Charger came as 9, 10, and 12hp models with both Tecumseh and Kohler power. They also could have a manual or hydro lift as an option. Funny enough, one of my old sales literature papers even mentions an electric PTO for the Charger in '68. At which rate you could basically have an E12, but cheaper.. haha. As for the Raider, they were a standard transmission machine with both Kohler and Teccy power, 9 through 12 or 14hp I think. Electro was dropped in 1970, the Charger and Raider continued through to 1972 I think. I'm not sure about Raiders, but the Electro and Chargers all came with the limited slip 10 pinion differential, I'm not too well versed on the gear drive machines.

I have started to redo a seat on my commando. I have the same rips on mine that I see on many others. Top corners have come apart and allow water in. Other than that the seat is in great shape. I plan on blasting the metal pan and painting it. How have others fixed the corners, I want to keep the back original.

Between Chargers and Electros the difference was electric PTO on electro standard hydro lift (optional on Chargers) and chrome hubcaps. Note over the production period Chargers and electros used 3 different ignition systems. Battery Mag and Breakerless.

It needs a good cleaning up It's been a while since it got one. Was bought at an estate sale by the fellow I got it from. It was stored in a barn at the estate sale and had been there a while from the amount of dust and dirt on it. He clean off the out side some and used it last summer. Has 770 hours on the clock. Every thing seams to work, haven't had time to check it out as I got it yesterday afternoon. I'll have some questions as it's my first hydro. If the hours are right that 30 hours a year. I'm going to take it apart clean it up and patch up the few rusty spots and use it this summer. Might repaint some of the sheet metal later this summer if I can match the existing paint.

Those are some unusual garden tractors there. Could you do a small introduction of each one for us?

Since I'm assuming you don't want to use Gorilla tape to do this I can't help you with the actual procedure. I will say to remember to get a vinyl that is good in cold temperatures such as you'd use for a snowmobile seat. Even if you have no intention of using the machine in the cold, the material is generally a better quality.

I think Emory has great taste; I LIKE the look of those wheels! In fact; that whole tractor looks sweet; I like the "look" ...maybe I might try that on my recent find, if I go that far... You're right about that sticker; the look does it, too....the stories these machines could tell!....and the patina/scars are part of those stories...

Hahahahahahha Well done. Trina and I will both do outdoor exercises readily... neither one of us likes being stuck in the house (or under any other roof) unless it's while doing projects or puttering. Good decision to replace all 4 seals. Also double check the bonding and thickness of the brake shoe while it's off. Trina bought us an HF manual tire changer last year. One of the best tool investments one could make.

Not much more done. Just one 6-12 tire complete and the second most of the way done. Going with turfs for now. Tires are time consuming as just this little bit is probably about 5-6 hours but was also working on the rim and some other stuff while glue was drying. Unfortunately all of my attempts for a rim blew apart in the Dremel as they were being sanded.

Hello All Snow is on the way again. Had a chance today to get the C81 ready with weights and a plow. She will be going back home to my uncles, so that I won’t have to shovel or use a walk behind snow blower anymore. MORE SEAT TIME 😁😁😁 I’m going to have to get some chains on her sooner than later though. I’m hoping she plows as well as she runs a tiller.
