I finally made up my mind and purchased a lift and I’m so glad I did. My knees and back are happy also. It is so much nicer than crawling around on a cold, hard concrete floor. I appreciated everyone’s suggestions as to the advantages and disadvantages of getting a lift.

A good score, I hope. Obviously needs work...but previous owner was a cool/great guy, and I ended up getting it delivered 6 blocks @ that price, too...I was/am pleased, sofar! Runs STRONG--FAST in reverse 2nd gear!---and she's a 1 maybe 2, pull, starter! ; moves in both gears; auger spins; no weird noises, BUT....doesn't throw snow much @ all; really, just past the chute. And that gas tank needs a cleanout, lol. I hope it just needs a good going over/fluids changed, and belts....I'm learning this stuff as I go. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears. Also, I know it is a model # 4-2652 (there is a 8 way right of this number; I don't know what that could mean...? ) , and serial # 916406. But I don't seem to find much when looking up these. I think it's a "7"; but not sure (that sticker is missing unlike all others I've looked@ ); can't find/see any of those tags. I'd like to findout when it was made. Any input there, too, would be appreciated. I've been searching for info these past few days using these numbers, and just haven't comeup with much. Maybe I need to check them, again.... Anyways, hope y'all are doin' well, and thanks for any help....I'm looking forward to workin on this come spring....hopefully that'll b soon!

Called up about a Wheel Horse for sale he was about 30 miles away. Went and looked over and brought it home. 1989 520 H with a 42" mower base need a few things. Steering wheel center cap, handle on the Idler few rust spots here and there small hole in the deck and the hydro needs adjusting. It wants to back up with the control centered.

Well, I finally found time to finish Emory’s 633. I found that the pulse pump will lose its prime after sitting for a while. The crankcase pulse doesn’t seem strong enough to overcome the resulting vacuum lock in the pulse pump. I added a marine primer bulb and bam, problem solved. Once running the pulse pump does it’s job without any problem.

We've been super busy here at home but finally got the exhaust and bracket shape finalized. Removed them to throw some flat black stove paint on. The angle of the black iron pipes will change when tightened up. They're just together for paint purposes. @WildmanC120 here's the pieces.

20 some odd years ago when I bought my house I also bought a run of the mill Ryobi straight shaft trimmer not expecting it to last very long . Well , with regular maintenance the trimmer still has 150 psi in the cylinder ( not bad for a 2 stroke that has been used ....ALOT ). I picked up this 10" pole saw attachment ( with 12 up to foot reach ) at Horrible Depot for 110 bucks . It will be used around the house as well as for clearing small limbs on the ATV trails . We will see how long the attachment itself lasts (excluding the chain of course) with a regular maintenance schedule .

Hello there all Horse enthusiast's!! Long time no visit or post but, even though I still have one to finish.....my fiancee surprised me with a little surprise... Can't believe she got me this for my early birthday present. I'm at a loss for words and know nothing about it but it looks like a lot of fun 🎉😆🎊.

Not much more done. Just one 6-12 tire complete and the second most of the way done. Going with turfs for now. Tires are time consuming as just this little bit is probably about 5-6 hours but was also working on the rim and some other stuff while glue was drying. Unfortunately all of my attempts for a rim blew apart in the Dremel as they were being sanded.

Sounds like the fellas have got you pointed in the right direction Crib but personally I would have ditched the whole PO thing and went back to an orginal for a 1067. The orginal set up cut excellent if thats what you have planned for it. One reason I might be saying this tho is I have pile of decks & setups for these years. The other is just don' think mules have any business being on a vintage tractor... again just my . You can have one for that four letter word that starts with F if you can figure out a way to get one to you. Even give ya the pick of the litter!

Hello All Snow is on the way again. Had a chance today to get the C81 ready with weights and a plow. She will be going back home to my uncles, so that I won’t have to shovel or use a walk behind snow blower anymore. MORE SEAT TIME 😁😁😁 I’m going to have to get some chains on her sooner than later though. I’m hoping she plows as well as she runs a tiller.

My Dad had the first remote control in the patch...............hey boy put it on 2, hey boy put it on 11, hey boy, hey boy, hey! thankfully we only had 3 stations! Oh yeah, go up on the roof and turn the antenna. (later we did get a rotor)!

Gotta be the TV remote. Can you imagine getting up every time to change the channel...especially with 140+ channels?? Also, just imagine how many commercials you would be stuck watching because it would be too much trouble to surf.

My friend Eric: Excellent topic and question. By "modern', I assume you mean something that was invented in the last few thousand years, right? I am a big fan of the wheel, in general. Their absence would make life so much harder. Without a wheel, my garden cart wouldn't be much fun to push. Without a wheel, my four-wheeler would just be a "4." Without wheels, tires and a steering wheel on my truck I couldn't get to the store to buy beans and weenies or the coffee I must have daily to function. Without a wheel, my chainsaw would be reduced to a very laborious one-man saw. Without the 18 wheels on a big truck, almost nothing could get to the local shopping center where my better-half finds so much pleasure in spending my hard earned money. Without a wheel, there wouldn't be any Wheel Horses, then we'd just have horses. I grew up with horses. Too much work and you have all the trouble of growing hay, corn and oats to keep them in feed, plus you have to muck out stalls every day. I hated mucking out stalls. Yeah. I like the wheel. It gets my vote. And I like a cordless drill. Cheers (with tongue in cheek)! Dave

The one thing that makes my life so much easier is......YouTube. There is so much information there that was never accessible before. Whether it’s an engine rebuild, valve adjustment, dishwasher repair, you name it, somebody has taken the time to film and explain the procedure. Some aren’t as good as others but they all teach you something. Game changer in my opinion.

I've been pondering this situation for some time now. Came to find through old paperwork that WH offered a special offset lift rod to use the newer decks, in conjunction with the newer lift assembly. If you use the original lift rod on the newer deck, it will hit the steering support. On my 68 Electro 12 it was missing the hand brake and rods. The holes that happened to be there fit a C-160 lift bar perfectly and the original C trunnion rod worked. It lifted a deck as designed.. but now the holes for the hand brake/tensioner are occupied. On a gear drive, I don't see why you cant make those holes. Or just make up an offset rod. I have not yet found anyone with dimensions of this special offset rod. The other way to do it would be a chain down to a lower point on the rear of the deck. As I understand it, doing this may cause it to lift off kilter. I have yet to get in the shop and really get my hands on mine.

Oh yeah! Love the 910 series ariens. Does that still have the single belt and the lovejoy coupling? I have a ‘71 5hp 24” and it’s instoppable with chains. I expected it to be grossly underpowered...boy was I surprised! It’s my go-to machine. here it is in action:

Nice find and great deal! I’m a bit of a vintage snowblower junkie myself (Ariens, Toro and Allis Chalmers). a few tips to really boom the white stuff. 1) new auger belt...and may as well change the traction belt as well while you are in there. 2) with the machine off and spark plug disconnected, reach into the chute, grab hold of the impeller shaft and check for play. If no play, bolt on some rubber on the impeller fins (check “snowblower impeller mod” in YouTube. If you have impeller shaft play, you’re gonna want to split the machine and swap out the impeller bearing (or bushing)...then install the impeller rubber. If the engine doesn’t have enough “ooomf”... 3) make sure the engine has good compression. I always treat new-to-me engines to a valve job (adjust clearances to spec and lap), carbon removal, carb cleaning/rebuild and a new head gasket. That’s a points engine so I’d also clean up the points and check the gap.

I thought I would never admit this but an automatic transmission in a truck, referring to a 20/30 &2500/3500 GM Trucks. In 1988 I had a new R-30 4 spd manual /454 dual wheel chassis cab that avg 5 mpg when new and avg 7.2 after break-in. In 2002 a K 3500 6.0 with 4 spd auto again a chassis cab that avg was 9 mpg. Now a 2013 2500 HD with a 6.0 and a 6 spd auto with manual mode that avg was 17 new and after cap and all tools the avg is at 13.5, the GVW is 9500 and recently weighed the truck and is just under 9000. I think the 6 spd helps a lot on the highway but in the snow the old 4 spd really shines. In the spring the old K-20 4 spd manual comes out for a ride, brings me back to a simpler time in our lives. Great topic Eric.

@OILUJ52 I remember those days. Actually, you know people had kids to help them as they got old...ie...help on the farm, help around the yard, somebody to yell at, etc. When you think of it, remotes may have replaced children. I know the younger generation is not getting married, not having kids and populations are dropping. If it wasn't for fermentation, civilization as we know it may be in jeopardy.

Agreed Craig, I had to get a truck with a camera as yelling at the Missus WHICH WAY to drop the hitch on the ball almost ended in divorce! New truck was the least expensive of that route.

Electronic fuel injection. (When it works! ) As a mechanic who fought with, hand chokes, choke stoves, heat riser valves, choke pull offs, electric chokes, fast idle cams, I love going out on a cold day and being able to turn the key and VROOM! Walk away and not come back to a loping( if still running) or screaming truck. Spring and fall were the worst. Adjustments made in the spring now we're no good in the fall. I had a binder of a foot thick with technical bulletins trying to get a simple Chrysler tootally two 4 banger to run smoothly at partial choke. And let's not forget the famous Mitsubishi 2.6 Caravans with the heat shield you took off in the fall to stop carb icing and put on to prevent carb boiling in the spring. Remote start kits with their 25 relays would not be a thing without EFI!

Staying within the parameters set forth (didn't exist fifty years ago) I guess I would have to say the internet comes to mind. Not too sure about Randy's answer of the cell phone, it is as much of a pain in the @$$ as it is a convenience.

Totally agree. I don't think John's intention was to create a perfect replica although it is a rather precise one. We all know what it is. We are all entitled to our opinions and one can not argue others' tastes, but in my opinion staining it or painting it , would only hide and detract from its appeal. One needs to clearly see all the individual components and the hundreds of different pieces of material that it is composed of. We ourselves have a different and deeper appreciation for it because we know so well what it is, and have a visual reference for it. Its appeal however is way beyond what it represents. Not only the craftsmanship involved but also the stretching of the physical limitations of the materials themselves is something to admire. Incredible that a mind and hands which can mold, cut ,twist and join rough rusty metal parts to create a motorcycle all from parts totally not appropriate for the task, can also be so gentle, caring and careful as to create such a delicate object. There is no substitute or equivalent for the human touch.

It is getting carried away with the small detail but that's because you guys wanted pics and a build thread. Now that I figured out an easy way to get a drill bit to go deep straight down the center of 4 glued toothpicks to make pipe, maybe replace the rear axle so at least the tires spin. Will that do?

This is a good point to drop in a video as it kinda covers all of the above. What it doesn't cover is the fender pan getting lengthened a bit.. Seeing the fender pan just resting on the top of the tyres was bugging me, so to get it to stay in the right place and height it gained some legs.. Only one thing for it... Get the ladder out and climb aboard to see how it feels.. The view down the bigger bonnet from the seat is amazing.. You will see it in the next video.. Yes the seating postion looks a bit high, the middle of the fender pan will be chopped out and lowered to get the seat and my vast weight lower.. A couple more pic's without the fat bloke... And that's as far as the build has got, the next job is to copy the fender pans lead and makes some legs/stands to hold the engine/trans in the right place and screw it down to the bench. I still need to tweak the panels around a bit, but I'm not that far off of thinking about the chassis..

Hey Jim, Wheel-Vo has never been far from my mind, I have just been too busy with life and trying to get my quad build done (almost finished) to find the time to make a start... Until now What wood working skills??? I can "do" wood when I have too, but I'm more of a metal guy... You might of noticed Who knows what the future will hold.. I have been thinking about the suspension, but for a machine who's main roll in life will be to smoke the rear tyres/tires away, I'm not 100% sure it's going to be needed. with the low height I need there also wouldn't be any real suspension travel, maybe 2-3 inches! Also no suspension would make the build a tad easier!! My current thinking is something I saw on a racing mower which I am told works very well and saves a lot of back pain!! From the front it's hard to spot.. A bit of a give away at the back though Anyway, I'm not quite at that point in the build yet, but not the far off..... Yes work has finally started on Project Wheel-Vo I havn't quite finished my MadTrax quad build yet, but I had got to the point where I needed a few bits to finish it but no cash to buy them.. (Ordered this morning by the way) But MadTrax had reached the point where it could come off the bench... And as the bench was empty of course I needed something to put on it Engine, trans, a few wheels and the bonnet plonked in place.. Although the look is rather grin worthy, there are a few problems such as the bonnet is too short, too wide, and not long enough to not onlt fit over the engine but also cover the radiator, intercooler and tran oil cooler! Sooo best add 12 inches to the length and 4 inches to the width.. At this point I am not sorting the bodywork out, I just need to stretch things a little until Wheel-Vo looks right hence all the random bit of tube and box holding the bonet together.. The fender pan got a bit of a stretch as well.. "Now with an added Nigel" to help you work out the scale..

A little more tonight. I did some reassembly on Emory’s tractor. Hood is just sitting on there for now. Emory posed for a friend I ran into tonight. Hadn’t seen him in a couple of years. His wife was a super friend who passed from cancer. Anyway, here are a couple more shots during reassembly after clear. Mods, move this to restorations thread if needed.
