10 pointsI've been officiating at The Northern Classic Trial today. The term classic does not refer to the vehicles, but the rules under which it is run. You can enter with any car or motor cycle. No four wheel drives permitted. No photo's of the section on which I was Section Commander. Rather impossible when I was setting the competitors off. But here's a few from the last section. May not look much of a gradient, but believe me it was. Also wet and muddy.

10 pointsIt's been a long day for this old timer, but I managed to get everything unloaded and somewhat put away. I'm sure my arthritic joints will complain for a few days. So, now I can declassify details on this short road trip. I learned of this find through a mutual friend. His friend, Mr. Lenny Haines had acquired the collection when his Father recently passed. Lenny's Father, Mr. Richard Haines (86) lived in Beaver Falls, Pa. Lenny lives 3.5 miles from me, so I stopped and looked at the collection and took some initial pictures. A few days later, I called Lenny and made an offer. He was in NC at the time and needed to talk with his brother. Lenny came home yesterday, and today.....well. Like Mr. Paul Harvey would say, " And now you know the rest of the story". A few more pics of what I found in some of the tubs. 8 speed w/ 1 1/8" axles and hubs. Is there anyway to ID this externally? ie. 8 or 10 pinion, limited slip Hydraulic pump equipment etc. Sickle bar stuff motors round hood parts engine bench tester on wheels with fuel tank, and wiring harness for Ks. WH parts No pics, but there was a complete 42" dozer blade and long frame, a 42" Rd deck, a 42" SD deck, and a 48" SD deck.

8 pointsDell I recently retired after 37 years of law enforcement here in Virginia. Thank you for those kind words. Well said. We all need to thank the men and women that protect and keep our families safe.

8 pointsDon’t forget one of these...may help with “packing” the trailers... Even the correct color...

7 pointsAll I could get done tonight. Estimate the tire size and draw a circle Next is sand the ends of the pieces so they meet and form the proper size ring Glue each ring one at a time and then fit and stack them. Easier said than done but not too bad These need to be clamped to keep the seems tight. I have left them loose to simulate the tire tread on other pieces. Then fill the gap with glue and rub them with dirty hands to leave the glue joints darker than the wood. I do that quite a bit all over the piece just to emphasize that these are toothpicks and not solid wood. Not always on purpose but mostly when filling little imperfections. No patience to wait for the glue to fully dry. With the glue semi dry and still tacky, adjustments can be made to align the circle. Once completely dry it's a little more difficult. Plus when sanding with the glue barely tacky, the dust mixes with the glue and fills some imperfections. The inside of the ring has to be sanded as well for the next pieces of the side walls. Sanded tires. Next is the side walls then the rims. (the one on the right is tire pictured above for mock up. Just seemed too small so the new ones are a little taller)

6 pointsWell as much as we will deny it, it all stems back to parenting. There needs to be something put in place with when a man and women get married to put an end to this . You have to start from the beginning! L O V E!! God bless us all and those families of the fallen officers!
-
6 pointsI agree my friend my prayers go out for those men and their families. We have a lot of sick people in our world today, if these people new GOD and understood his word I think it would help. When someone does not value their own life they certainly are not going to value someone else's.

6 pointsFor me there is no magic in battery brands, I have had most all. The magic is in the connections, a good tune, and a decent battery tender. If a motor is reluctant to start in warm weather it will be worse in winter. Tune before cold weather helps. Make sure your choke is closing all the way and make note of the sweet spot on the throttle setting for the easiest start. Most of my Kohlers like about 3/4 throttle. In extreme cold, I like to crank about ten seconds, then wait a few and crank again. Just me.

6 pointsHere too...easy to happen upon them at the most awkward moment. Mom was moving too fast for the fawn to keep up, did what comes natural and laid down on the spot. Gave me a couple minutes to snap these close ups before she circled back around the house to pick him up. As I remember, she was pretty panicked when she came back around. Ahhh, relax Momma! Your baby's safe with me.

6 pointsI've got about a dozen deer out in my backyard right now, common everyday experience. They are even starting to bed down after the morning browse.

5 pointsA few weeks ago I picked up this walk behind for 75 bucks. I have always wanted one and knew that I would never find a WH model that I could afford. Originally this machine had a Briggs model N engine on it but at some point it was swapped out with a Wisconsin BKN 7 horse. I plan on finding an N to go back on it but will play around with it as is. Long story short it sat in the garage for the past few weeks because I don't have heat in it. Went out today and found that the magneto was putting out great spark. Pulled the tank, carb. and settlement bowl and they were all clean. The oil bath air cleaner had water in it so cleaned it up and put clean oil in. It fired up and runs perfect on the third pull. The machine came with a snow blade so I will try to make a plow that will work on it. I did find out that it is a very early 1948.

5 pointsI absolutely agree with poor parenting, I will 67 later this year and firmly believe this got started back in the 70's when my wife and I got married. I can say my wife and I did not contribute to the problem, because we were never able to have children. A world without GOD is a troubled world and these things are the example.

5 pointsNot only that - I just Googled "What dogs get along with horses?" and...Dingos are NOT on the list... Just saying - perhaps @Ed Kennell should be reported to "PETHA" - People for the ethical treatment of Horse-aholics"... I am sure there are many folks on this site who could be found to "volunteer" shelter to those poor wayward 's and parts...

5 pointsabout four years ago I had a doe drop a fawn in my yard, first time for that , out in the open, no cover for the fawn. I could just see the doe at the edge of the fields nearby. kept away from it , watched it on and off for hours, went to get something, came back , it was gone. That was the change I wanted to see, I was lucky to have seen what I did, Pete

5 pointsOne thing that may help is to move the battery ground cable to one of the engine mounting bolts. The largest load the battery will see is the starter motor and doing this shortens the path the current needs to take to get back to the battery. As our tractors age the chassis grounds deteriorate so are not as effective. You could also added a lighter ground wire from the same engine mounting bolt back to the chassis as insurance for other accessories. Garry

5 pointshaven't seen many deer this year , but lots of turkeys, especially the human kind, pete

5 pointsBuy a 360 CCA battery from tractor supply. Also if you cables are original replace them.
-
4 pointsWhat's nice about that haul Ed is (hopefully) stuff going to save other horses and keep our hobby alive other than the scrap yard.
-
4 pointsformariz, yes I can relate , I called the dog warden about the fawn , was told to stay away from it, and absolutely do not touch it, your smell can easily turn off the doe to feeding and general care. I left water near by , but basically just looked at it from 50 ft. away. Pete

4 pointsHad a tour of MSport who build rally cars not far from me. Had a very interesting two hours touring the museum, engine, transmission and where they build various cars. Mainly Fords but some Jaguars and Bentley's. For more info Google MSport. Took some photo's at Jeff's (ACman) request. I'd liked to have taken more, but photo' taking was limited to just a couple of areas. This is Malcolm Wilsons personal '78 M11 Ford Escort. Only been rallied once. Those cars are in the museum. The next car was in the foyer. Finally where the cars are built and prepared. You can see three of the Jaguars. The white one is electric. The red Munchis car's owner lives in Argentina and sends the car over yearly to be rebuilt and serviced. He's an ice cream man. Has a ice cream factory. Must be a lot of money to be made in ice cream. You may have noticed no lifts or ramps for working on the cars. This is because the mechanics go to service cars on rallies and must get proficient in working on their backs.

4 points1986 was the year Toro acquired Wheel Horse but they kept the plant open for several years. I believe it was 1991.....ish when they moved things to their home state and shut the plant down.

4 pointsI’ve had good luck with the Walmart batteries as well. When you’ve got around a dozen battery ignition tractors, you have to look for economical batteries and so far the Wally World batteries have done the job. Like the others have said, a good ground is the key.
-
4 pointsIs there a chance you have a parasitic draw? I have a Walmart battery on my 9 year old’s machine. When it was sub zero for extended time I started it up just fine. The trans oil was so cold I couldn’t let the clutch out for a few minutes or it would stall out the engine, but it still started strong.

3 pointsI am saddened to hear of this news. I was just blessed to receive good night duties with my 8 month old niece, she smiled and giggled when her bottle was gone. She has the childlike faith that I wish more people had, with love and happiness in her eyes... nothing more.

3 pointsNow, local media is saying that officer Hinkle did not pass, but is in critical condition at this time. I’m praying the first report was wrong and that officer Hinkle is able to pull through this! Please send prayers his way in hopes the latest info is correct. I will say that in the case of Trooper Dowell that I have never seen such an outpouring of love and respect as was shown to him at his funeral. There were officers from almost all 50 states in attendance at his service. We all need to stand strong with our police officers and military members!

3 pointsToday’s pictures on last day of the 2019 Florida Flywheelers Show and Swap Meet! Bought an anvil ring in memory of my dad Clifton Ralph, the person who started the Wheel Horse big! Also bringing a 701 and 702 back to Indiana with a stop at Clay Brooks in Ringgild, Georgia!

3 pointsHad a great time today........ “just hanging with my Wheel Horse homies” Did a little cruising around on Skittles, picked up my deck from Rodney that Lane brought down and ended up buying the little trailer I hauled it out to my truck with. Picked up some cool Craftsman stools that will become “Wheel Horse” stools. Probably my last Flywheelers after we move.

3 pointsWell, he was so adorable that I just couldn't resist. So I figured let me give him some love now before he grows up and destroys my garden because then I just want to kill him. All kidding aside I know it's not the thing to do, mother was within 8 feet and at first I thought there was something wrong with him that is why I went to it. Shortly after I left mother came over gave him some more love and up he goes. Believe me, many of them basically eat out of your hand that is how used to us here they are. My good friend across st is a Budist and wife has an old bathtub outside into which she pours 50lbs bags of feed. It is something else to watch. Sometimes there are up to six of them on one side and turkeys inside of it eating.
-
3 pointsYes, it was. I was fuming when they moved especially since they initially said they wouldn't. An interesting read is a book title 'Making the Grass Greener on Your Side' By the Toro CEO, Ken Melrose. There's a few pages about the purchase and how and why they just let Wheel Horse do their thing the first couple years as they sat back and watched the "tractor experts". They had a great deal of respect for the company and the product. The recession of the early 90's played a major part in the move to Minnesota.

3 pointsDave will point you correctly. As will Paul. If Dave does not respond expeditiously, you should search all of Daveoman’s posts that are already on the forum. He has posted tons of help on these I’ve rthe years.

3 pointsX 10. I had a similar situation with my C165, even with a fresh battery. I wired in an additional 6-gauge ground wire right to the engine block and the engine never turned over quicker.

3 pointsNAPA also has a good 340 CCA battery made by Deka. I've had great luck with them, and they usually go on sale in the spring. They do the job on my 2-cylinder engines, even in cold weather. Jim

3 points@Lane Ranger, While you are snapping away taking pics today at Florida Flywheelers today, how about a group shot of you @lawnman_56, @19richie66, and any other Red Square members you guys bump into? Hope you catch up with this thread and unload your camera once things settle down and you are packed up for the trip back to Hoosierland. Regards, Steve

3 pointsI didn't see any 953/1054s or GT-14s or a Super-C in the pictures so guess I'm safe! I think Lincoln has the loading thing down pretty good.
