11 pointsYou mean to tell me Steve had to become a Mod to finally dump that Commodore 64?

6 pointsAfter spending the day playing in our Volvo mini loader and excavator at work I decided I better flatten out some ruts in the mud at home before the ground freezes and I have to plow over them all winter. The 753 had no problems even with the bigger ones. If we could just get some cold weather to freeze everything up or if it could stop raining up here we would be good. I can't even get out to my fire wood pile with any of my tractors cause it's so muddy. My son's and their trusty red wagon have been handling the firewood detail the last few weeks.

5 pointsPlease join me in welcoming Steve @stevasaurus as our newest Moderator. For the past couple of years, Steve has really helped out by organizing our technical area, and keeping our photo's in tact. He is always open to lend a hand, and we feel that he'll be even more helpful as a moderator! Welcome Steve

5 pointsSee...I take one day off and look what happens! You know Steve this means the wine cellar has to come out of the basement for more room for high strung computers. Looks like you will be doing something else in moderation other than on RS!
-
5 pointsGot the hood back together this morning, I wasn't sure how this was gonna turn out when I started but I'm happy with it.

4 pointsHey everyone, I finally decided to get back on here and wouldn't you know it I didn't know my screen name since it's been so long. I'm talking years. Anyway I'm back. Some of you I know from the Facebook pages. Some I've actually gotten to meet which is awesome. I have a decent collection that has almost out grown my storage capacity. I have a 57 rj-35 I've been restoring, 2 rj58's 1 is all original with the Clinton and the other is restored with the kohler, 2 model 701's 1 original and one waiting to be restored, a 753, 2 603's 1 restored other waiting, bronco 14, 12 auto, 416h and then my wife has a few and my kids also each have 1. Looking forward to learning more from this site and meeting some more of you. Have a good one Keep saving those Wheel Horses. Matt

4 pointsNice work and the tool box is the bomb! Don't scrap the old nose piece out Denny ...might be good for another project or even just shop deco.
-
4 pointsCongratulations, Steve, from this side of the Pond. I suppose this is the reason you'll be getting a new computer at long last.
-
4 pointsCongrats @stevasaurus! Does this mean less rock-n-rye, or more, or just less talk about it? I’m confused!
-
4 pointsThank you Karl...I will do my best to keep up the tradition of the fantastic Moderators that are here and have been here before. I have come a long way from my 1st day on Red Square, and I am still learning...now I get to give something back. Thank You for your trust in me.

3 pointsWell the nice guy at NAPA gave me a big discount on hoses....only $234.00 instead of $325.00. Sure doesn't look like that much but oh well. I now have liftage..... Will need to flush fluid again as it got milky from leftover fluid in valve and pump. Goes up slow. SUPER EXCITED!!!!!

3 pointsDownload this manual. Also check the pinned topic at the top of this forum for Sundstrand O rings. As D man said if you have 5/16" bolts get parts for 3/8" bolts.. If you have 3/8" bolts get new Grade 8 ones. Axle seals are readily available from any good auto parts store or something like motion industries. D's are not the easiest WH to work on. Your biggest issue maybe removing the hubs. You have to use a puller do not beat them off!!! The thinness of the hub flange relative to the length of the hub means they are easy to break if you have to pull really hard. if they do not move you will have to rig a puller that works from the back of the hub. Edit: If all that is leaking is the axles you do not have to split the transaxle or remove it from the tractor. you will have to pull the hubs...

3 pointsI was on my way to work and saw this cool old girl sitting at a repair shop. After the third day of driving past , I pulled up next to her and asked her to jump in my truck and come home with me. I told her that I’d take care if her and not make her sit out in the rain but she wouldn’t get in. I was surprised that they had her sitting out on the lawn for 3 days and not in the shop. I guess they figured nobody would want to steal that old rusty tractor. I wonder if it belongs to a Red Square member in eastern Pa?

3 pointsThe hood on this Ranger had a dent on the nose where the “Wheel Horse” lettering is and I never could get it straightened good enough to be happy with it. Another member here gave me a nice nose piece so I’m attempting to replace the front of my hood with the the one I just got.I ended up using the front mounting tab from my old hood and now I’m ready to tack the new front onto the hood. Tomorrow my son in law is gonna come by and help me get everything lined up so I can tack the two halves back together. So far this has gone better than I thought it might, I think it’ll make a nice hood when it’s done.
-
3 pointsMaybe you could leave your name and number with the guys at the shop and ask them to pass it along to the owner and see if he'll call you.

3 pointsOk I couldn't help myself. Picked up a 520xi to add to my collection. Scored a plow blade and a grader blade with the deal. my first tractor with a cup holder Needs some tlc and some plastic.
-
2 pointsI picked this up a few weeks ago as you all know. I have not touched it since. Even though we got some snow last night, it was a decent day here at almost 40 degrees. Got myself a battery as the old one was a tiny atv battery and no good. Also made some new cables to match the battery. Ignore the red negative cable as that's all they had in stock. I'll put some black heat shrink on it later but it works for now. I also made that battery hold down clamp as the stock one was missing. Replaced the muffler too as it was full of holes. Engine runs pretty well although it is down on power and smokes pretty good. Ill either replace it with a 16hp or rebuild this one and maybe add a cam and a long rod setup. We will see what happens but it runs for now so it will allow me to work on the trans. As for the trans as you can see it goes forward ok. Seems to have good power going forward. Was unable to really test it as the ground is covered in snow. Reverse...that's another issue. Reverse is pretty gutless and does not work very well. I cannot tell how much oil is in the trans as its really hard to see on the dipstick, but there is oil in it and and it will drip off the bottom so I know there is at least dipstick level in it. The hydro lift works OK so I don't think I have serious issues. I'll probably start by draining the trans, replace filter and fill with new ATF. 1971 Wheel Horse GT14

2 pointsJuly 2013 @CasualObserver wrote this. Suburban serial locations. (These are the general locations... some may vary occasionally.) 1958/59 RJ-58 - left frame rail just behind the hood. 1959 RJ-59 - As far as I know of, no one has ever documented finding one. 1960 Suburban - Stamped into the metal throttle/choke plate just under the upper screw. 1961 Suburban - early used the top section of the 1960 plate, cut off and screwed to the hood stand. 1961 Suburban - later used a decal on the right frame rail ahead of the foot peg. im saying that my 61 has a cut plate that matches my 60 full length plate. I laid it on top of my 60 plate and the C for choke lines up together.

2 pointsIf you really want to get it good. Put in about two quarts of diesel and drive it around in every gear a little bit. Figure eights if you have space. Drain. Refill. Repeat. Then fill it with your preferred gear oil...
-
2 pointsThe ampmeter was added to that model tractor wasn’t it? My 1054 doesn’t have one. I appreciate the eBay posting because I only have the lens in my dash but no socket and wondered where to get one.
-
2 pointsThey issued a service bulletin 2-3 years after the 2 piece case transmissions came about. They recommended the 40w because of the shift rail suction issue that sometimes caused them to lock in 2 gears. The lighter oil helped that. Once they modified the rails to mechanically help the issue they went back to the heavier gear oil. They just neglected to change the owners manuals back. As a lot of others I use 80w90 but you'd be fine with the 40w if you prefer.

2 pointsDon't know how I missed this thread and a chance to at Squonk! When we venture into TSC in the spring and see the cute little chicks they have I tell her I want some.... that's when I get the look. Just think we could have chicken pooping contests on plow day how fun would that be!?!? Hope she don't see this thread I'm doomed. I always wanted a goat to so Cindy got me one!

2 pointsOne of the 16 hens gave us a surprise today, a double yolker from an Easter Egger!

2 pointsI just put a set on my 312 on 3" wide rims. I like them makes steering a lot easer. I also used the 312 spindles for the 6" rims .I had reinforced them a couple years back. I have 25 x 900 x 12 All trail II on the back that I raised the fender bracket, gas tank, and rear fender. The front rim were WH trailer rims I had to take 3/4" width off the hub to make them fit. I chose to take it off the out side to make a wider stance.

2 points303 would go a long way to prevent the sun from eating one of those tops - go directly to their site, there are ways to get larger bulk amounts for use in your own sprayer. https://www.goldeagle.com/product/303-aerospace-protectant/ I should start using the stuff to prevent my outdoor tarps from rotting away - storing several tractors out in our Illinois weather gets expensive as most of them only last maybe 2yrs at most. 2 pointsWheel Horse specified 40w motor oil in the trannies for awhile. You can use 80-90w gear oil. My L-107 has been running on 40w motor oil for 51 year with out a problem
-
2 pointsIt has a stock engine pulley but I’m running a 2” on the transmission so it will move on pretty good in 3rd gear.

2 pointsHahaha. We've had plenty already. More this morning. This year will be a learning experience for us for plowing the yard in general and also using the tractor. I'm trying several different tractors as we get them ready for use to see which one will be the best and keep the snow/dozer blade on it.

2 pointsCongrats to my LC buddy, the Dino, on a well deserved promotion! Glad to see that your name is finally in blue.
-
2 pointsCongrats Steve , first day on the job and look who acts up. You will need a big stick to keep him in line.
-
2 pointsSince this is a recoil start engine I wanted to fill in some of the empty space where the battery used to sit on this Ranger so I cut the battery tray down a little and welded up some 1/8" flat to make a tool box out of it. It's not very big but I think the boys will like it. I'll put a small latch on it and maybe add a small handle if I run across something that fits the dimensions.... I've also taken my seat pan to have cushions made and the guy tells me it'll be mid February before I get it back.

2 pointsThat display is awesome!! A rooster crow recording set to go off every 15min starting at 5am might speed things along for you.

2 pointsPainting parts for the 654, first time starting the 401 and 1276 this year! Now just need figure out why the 400's K91 engine won't fire. Started when bought it last year and never again. Won't even cough on starter fluid.
