Over a number of days, I adapted a Cub mule frame to hang weights, Cub footrests with extensions, diamond plate console, a unknown steering wheel with homemade cap, a block of wood to raise a seat from a Sears tractor, a long frame snow plow, new tires, undecided if the red oxide primer will be the finish coat, extended the hood a couple inches yet I still had to cut it for the air cleaner on the Predator engine. New shift pattern plate, a lawn ranger rear hood plate, and hood decals will be installed. I would bet the public would not know of any of these changes I made for my personal prefaces

I'm an old grandpa of three boys and we like old garden tractors. I just bought our first WH. A C-160 8 speed, Kohler powered. I got it for just a little above current scrap metal value. It is missing a few pieces including the carb, deck, seat/pan & fenders, and RH running board. I know someone that has a carb and deck. Meanwhile I can borrow a carb off of another Kohler engine I have to try out this engine. I did get the mule gear with the tractor. I plan to restore it. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

We just got out of the hospital. They’ve started Emory on anticonvulsant meds and we have to go to UT after Christmas for an EEG and a visit with his neurologist. This has been scary. Thanks to everyone gone for your prayers and support. Merry Christmas everybody! I’m just happy to be taking my boy home!!

Emory had a pretty bad seizure this morning. We had to call 911. We’re at the hospital getting him checked out now. They are doing blood work, CT scan and other tests. Please keep him in your prayers. Getting his tractor done is the least of my worries now. I wanted to thank @oldredrider for a lot of help on the tractor yesterday. He was among the first I let know what’s going on with Emory. Thanks for being there for us everybody!

Was going to start with a new thread for cards for him to read while they were waiting but as always this little guy said who’s the boss and it’s going to have to wait until after Christmas. You’ve got this Emory !

Isn't that the case on all of your projects? Looking back on your posts Trina has done the bulk of the work and you have taken the pictures!

Just happened to see this on the net. 10 MPH slower and he might've made it even more spectacular by sticking the landing. Watch the brake lights. https://www.autoblog.com/2018/12/24/video-bmw-flies-through-air-hits-tunnel/?ncid=edlinkusauto00000021&yptr=yahoo

We acquired this tractor about 2 months ago thanks to a very nice couple from New York State. @buckrancher thank you Brian and Jo. A few weeks ago Trina and I were shooting the breeze about what one of the projects we were going to work on and she mumbled something about... "My new tracta". Turns out she was talking about this 867 we've had sitting in the cellar. This isn't going to be a full disassembly and repaint at this point. Taking it apart enough to fix the issues that it has so that we can get it up and running and usable here on the property. It needs a generator lamp and an ignition switch. Drive belt. Fluid changes. Transmission needs seals. We had to change the gear at the base of the steering column because it was in three pieces. Throttle and choke cable. We will rewire it and get it back up and running and see how things go. @Mows4three @PeacemakerJack You boys'll be happy to know her hands were more greasy than mine at the end of this nights exercises. Here's a shot the day after we got it here. Took this tonight before we started disassembly.

Thank you everybody! We got back to Dad’s around 4:00 this afternoon and Emory has slowly returned to himself. He’s one tough little guy and was worried about Dad instead of himself. Little guy, big heart. I’ll be glad to get back to the doctors but am thankful to have the anticonvulsant medicine to help ward this off for now. Worst, most helpless feeling I’ve ever had. Thanks again and Merry Christmas everybody!

Hey thanks for the welcome and the info . A little about myself . I’ve always been into older stuff I’m 35 been messing with old mini bikes and go carts since I was a kid got myself a 1985 Honda 250es big red these days to move me around the yard and recently purchased a house with a little bit of property and needed something to clean the drive way for the wife and kids . Didn’t want a snow blower as it is gravel so I found a super clean 91 312-8 with a deck and plow setup . Always enjoyed the look of older wheelhouse tractors but never really had a use until now . Thing is a absolute tank . Glad I made the purchase . I’m located about 40 mins west of Cleveland . Thanks again !

I worked on converting a generator engine into a tractor engine for a project that I'm working on. An engine designed for a generator or pressure washer will usually be equipped with a tapered PTO shaft. An adapter shaft can be purchased on , although I have to say that I was not entirely impressed with the quality of the one that I received. The engine that I'm working with had a non typical tapered shaft, as it was longer & had multiple steps to it. These multiple steps were not really adapter friendly & need some adjusting. Starting from the end of the shaft after the taper the OD was 7/8", perfect for the adapter. Unfortunately it did not maintain the OD for the distance needed for the adapter. The next step on the shaft was 1", this size was of no use to me at all. The 3rd step was 1.146 again of no use to me. I did not want to tear a perfectly good engine down to change the crank or machine it down soo.... I used what my Machinist friend calls a redneck lathe. Start the engine , grab a 4.5" grinder, a file & some emory cloth and go to town. After I was finished the second step was gone & the 3rd step was turned down to 1 1/8". All with in .005" Slide the adapter shaft on. I choose to use a triple pulley simply to cover as much of the adapter and empty gap as I could.

That is the problem! When the fuel mixture is not rich enough the result is that luminus flux, a measure of total quantity of visible light emitted by a source, is increased at an exponential rate with each turn of the idle screw. This phenomenon is known as the I'm yanking your chain effect.

Any ideas what would cause this stack to get white hot and belch flames ? I leaned out the low idle fuel jet. Checked the exhaust valve. Compression is good. The strange thing is, It only happens in December And at night. VID_20181223_170638.mp4

You have made it usable that's what counts. I have one of those engines on a walk behind mower. I always run the carb. dry before putting it away, and it starts on the first pull.

Tom I've got a couple of those headlight holders here. You pay the freight and I'll send one to you. There are LED bulbs available which will be brighter, whiter, and use less amperage.

A bit more progress Got the valves adjusted to spec. The k181s has solid lifters that are non adjustable so i had to grind the exhaust valve stem until it was in spec and i had to lap the inlet valve seat until it was in spec. Intake was at .009 and exhaust was at .014. The manual calls for 0.17-0.19 EX and .006 - .008 IN. she also has an oversized 10 over piston and the cylinder walls look fantastic. Got the rear fenders done too

Lug tires don't really need chains if you're careful and have lots of weight, I've added 200# per rear tire and have no problems, = just great traction. Don't forget if you add a lot of weight on the rear axle, add some to the front for steering control, (when adding # to the rear, you're lightening the front slightly). To de-rust chain, put it in a quart of white vinegar in a bucket with a quart of water (50-50%) let sit 1-2 days (in basement), then put chain in a bucket with old oil. Good Luck, Glen Another thought is Rubber Tire Chains I use them and have been very happy with the results, my first choice is Lug tire without chains, I have a long asphalt drive with slight hills. Google Amazon and look for Rubber Tire Chains, but add extra rubber cross links for a much smoother ride. Not the best on smooth ice. A product called "RIMGUARD" is what the professionals use, will not rust nor hurt the enviroment, wherever Farmers go is who has it. Filled tire prices can be all over the place so shop around, I pay about $30 for rears, $20 for fronts, total, using good tires/rims and/or tubes is smart to reduce leaks. Done right they won't leak. Regular Window Anti-Freeze can break-down chemically over the years, (the alcohol in it is what changes) . RIM-GUARD will last for decades and is completely organic (google it).

A C-160 is a great catch in anybody's collection. I let one get away that I should have jumped on. The fact that you got one for your first acquisition is like hitting a home run your first at bat. Everybody has a favorite series of tractors but the c series is sort of like owning the last and best of the 2 cylinder John Deere "johnny popper" ag tractors. Congratulations.

Just wondering if you add that battery over the winch on the front how do you plan on opening the hood for oil checks and fuses if the need arises?
  43. 2 points
Hahahahahahahaha.... We already have both of those problems but it's okay. I'm not by any means disagreeing with the fact that my picture taking skills could be substantially better. However, I have a Trina who takes good pictures. This really shouldn't be a winter project for us. Hopefully just in the next couple weeks. One or both of us will be working on this at least a little bit the next couple days. At that point I'll have to wait for parts to come in and then hopefully get most or all of it done on the next 4 Day weekend next week.

Last night Scottie was fever free!!! Praise the Lord!!! However, he experienced more pain during the night. He has some fractured ribs that is causing him pain and his pelvic area was hurting him along with his legs. As long as we stay on top of his pain, he does fine. Ok so now we are going to start a new chapter of Scottie’s recovery as we are going home tomorrow. Please pray that he continues to get stronger and he heals mentally and physically. We also ask for prayers to make our family a stronger unit and that we rally around Scottie to heal. Our next chapter will be a long road but with God by our side we can do anything!
