14 pointsVery glad to see that Glen Pettit has returned to the Red Square! His products and support for Wheel Horse owners has been a Godsend to all of the Wheel Horse folks trying to keep their tractors going with parts we need to do the job of restoration and maintaining these great little tractors. Please support Glen and his products in the Vendors Section! I am very glad to see Glen active again and thankful for his good health.

10 pointsI found an ad on craigslist for this tractor described as "Wheel Horse tractor not sure what model it is price is 200 or best offer" I went to see it, only 45 minutes away. I offered 100, he said 150, I said 120, he said 125, I said SOLD! Looks like a 1970 GT-14. That makes two GT14's for me.

6 pointsYou guys are not going to believe this, but my dentist has to prop my mouth open during lengthy procedures because I fall asleep. My only discomfort is the bill afterward.

6 pointsWelcome back Glen. I missed the old nostalgic photos you use to post. Also the parts you make and sell are just great.

4 pointsWell the 867 custom I found a few weeks ago, and brought home is back working. When I got it it had a few major problems. Transmission was shot, 1 Hub was worn way oversize an the tie rods were shot. that along with a bunch of smaller other concerns. Good news was she's a looker and her 10hp tec purrs like a kitten. I know without pics it didn't happen so... I also made some heavy duty Tie rods out of 5/8 stock and grade 8 nuts an bolts. Put in studs to make installing those big tires easier..lol

4 pointsTo reduce friction within the cylinder bore the piston skirt diameter is turned down and drilled to accept buttons made of Teflon.

4 pointsI did a restore on my 84' this summer. I did not go into the same detail you did. That came out super nice. your attention to detail on that machine is not only hard to do but came out better than new. There is only one other C195 of that quality I have seen and that is Brian's (Buckrancher) as he did a restoration on his and had it at the bid show last year. Here are a few pics of mine. I did mine as a worker restore but think it came out a little better than a worker.

3 pointsSo I have been wanting one for my smaller garden tractors for some time. I have been looking in all the usual places for a good deal. Seems all that I can find must be made out of some kind of excotic materials. Because they are asking what I think is way too much money for them. The fact is I'm on a limited (tractor) budget by SWMBO...lol. So I have more time than cash, and enjoy the build process. What do you guys think? I made it out of 1/2 x 2 in spring steel. Zinc coated grade 8 nut an bolts 7/8 rod an some thick walled tubing.

3 pointsHere are the pics. Basically built from scrap pulleys, a piece of rod, and some bits of flat bar. Nothing is welded (but could be), I used bolts or roll pins. The cable is the thinnest aircraft cable I could find with crimps on the ends to hold it. Cleat

3 pointsI saw that one on CL and was very tempted, but no space in the garage because I already have five WH projects lined up. You got a great deal. Have fun with it. Jim

3 pointsBetween putting up Christmas lights, I managed to get a bit more painting today. Just three coats of primer. Hopefully topcoat tomorrow. Only footplates, Drive belt guard and fender. I think the footplate on the right will be getting a touch of filler. Should have done it before. In to the kitchen to fully dry overnight.

2 pointsI got some new front tire about 3 weeks ago. I got them mounted and had to wait on new bearings. Got the bearings last Friday and found that Wheel Horse trailer wheels have a 4 1/2" width hub with the bearings installed. The 312-8 I have has a 3 3/4" hub with the bearings installed. 3/4" too long what to do? I decided to cut the hub as that seemed to be the easiest. I went to JR's house as he has a big lathe that will turn the wheel with the tire on. He wasn't home, so I went on down to Bill's house as he has two lathes. I didn't think he could turn them with the tire on but I needed to check. His largest lathe only swings 14" the tires are 16 3/4". So back home and took the tires back off the rims. Check with my friend just up the road he wasn't home either. That was all yesterday. I went to Fred's this morning and we cut the 3/4" off the front side as I wanted them to track as wide as possible. Came home and remounted the tires and installed the bearings. Pictures I know you want some. get url for photo

2 pointsOnce owned a 72 Cortina that came from factory with the 2liter from Germany, anyhow this guy in a Fiat alongside me on the freeway wants to play, we both got clocked at 110 mph and it took a longer distance for the Fiat to come to a full stop. As the guy is walking back towards me and the cop he's mumbling something about just wait until I get the fuel injection installed and that his car only had an 850 cc engine, must have impressed the cop as he reduced the speed on the tickets avoiding stunting charges for both of us. Some months later on a road trip to Edmonton blew a connecting rod that went through the side of the engine block when I lifted the hood you could see the crankshaft turning and splashing oil from the large hole in the block, missed the water jacket. Added more oil then continued the journey periodically adding more oil. Finally another rod let go, still running and drive-able but much slower, what finally killed it had to stop for a construction zone. The engine I installed same 2 liter from a Pinto but the Niorth American manufactured one and no comparison on performance.

2 pointsThat blade was made to fit a red tractor, but not a Wheel Horse. It's for a Massey Ferguson. Pretty hard to find piece of equipment.

2 pointsThanks for the replies. Im not sure what route I want to go for the patina finish yet. Im will have to spend some time researching on here checking out what some other members have done. I saw a couple of beauties at the big show this year that looked fantastic. So I have the pto clutch apart and investigating why it slips it high grass. The rod it at the end of its adjustment first off. I also noticed some of the holes are slightly wallowed out. I need to also see if i can find a spec on the friction disc but it dosnt look to worn out to me. I did have to de glaze it at one point last summer, but there is some meat there. One other thing im questioning is if the rubber mounted engine cradle has any effect on the amount of pressure from the engagement? When engaged it puts alot of force but it looks like some of it is absorbed through the rubber mounts and I can see the motor move a bit when i engage it.

2 pointsOnly the Land Rover 90 belong to me. Put an Isuzu 2.8 turbo diesel in with uprated intercooler. None of the rest belong to me, but I thought you lads might find it interesting what we have over here in England. The Model T was imported from Texas I believe. Complete with bullet holes.

2 pointsDismal pickings, the scrap guy had been to three of the dumps we visit and all the metal piles were gone with just bare ground showing. Picked up this pair of old Clinton chainsaws, both still turn over. Without spark arrestors, forestry would probably boot you out of the woods. The white glass will be broken up then ball milled into powder as a fluxing ingredient - silica. For smelting precious metals from placer black sand. The flux is sold premixed as Chapman's Flux, but I prefer to use local ( cheap ) resources.
