Scott, on behalf of the staff here at RedSquare, we offer you and your family our sincerest sympathy. In honor of Adam, I have placed his account in our Member at rest group where we will forever remember him. He was a supporter of this forum, and were very grateful that he chose our forum to share his hobby with. To help you in your efforts, I have given your RedSquare account supporter status for one year at no cost to you, ignore the emails you’ve received. This will allow you to post as many pictures of Adam’s tractors which you see fit. Karl

Pulled the trigger for the guys following,I really didn't know what these where acouple days ago, I kinda looked up what these are going for and it kinda amazed me the seller wanted alot for a non running tractor right off there start he then told me he was interested in old tin toys or old metal Tonka toys I only have a couple and they aren't displayed in my house at the moment so I figured I would offer them to him and he bit on one hard, knocked the price almost in 2/3 and I was left paying acouple hundred bucks and a Tonka toys, couldn't pass this up!! Everything is free and 99% there front tires are original but shot and it's got a 7hp k161 can't bet a Kohler! I thought my horses where heavy not even close this is unbelievablely heavy!! This will be one of 2 winter projects I will have going on so here we go!!! Hope you enjoy the progress.

I got tired of freeing a stuck intake valve on the unknown origin 5 hp Briggs so for a $100 I got a 212 cc Predator in there now. had to raise tin 1" in order to get 1/8" clearance between engine and tin above it, + 1/8" between steering shaft and intake (on one side) and exhaust (on the other side) and ignition wire (just under shaft), by moving bulkhead that supports steering shaft about 1" forward. Then had to take steering pinion / rack assembly apart, tweak, lube and reassemble then adjust a few times to get it working smooth. Absolutely love this rig now. Depending on rpm and how I release clutch, it will do wheelies now. No plans for further mods besides finding a smallish York rake to fit, and / or getting an old snow blade that I have attached. Edit - not sure if I mentioned before but I did drain and 2x flush the goo out of trans and added new gear oil.

To all those that have replied, I’m having a difficult time seeing the keyboard, looking through tear filled eyes, reading the kind and respectful words, you all have shared about my brother. He was a good man, and I’m glad some of you got to know him, through this great club. Karl, a sincere thank you for that, because that’s what I’m going to do. Adam really got to enjoy his collection of Wheel Horse tractors, the most I believe, when he lived in Tennessee on a 9 acre piece of land. Between cutting the grass, hauling whatever he needed to, stump pulling, or even grading, he’d tell me about it every time we spoke. There is one tractor that he worked on, as the last “big project”, he finished just before being diagnosed. He dismantled the tractor 100% to the last nut and bolt. He was an excellent mechanic. He reassembled it after thorough cleaning, painting, and replacing anything that wasn’t making the grade. Right down to the last sticker and zip tie, I think the Wheel Horse factory would be very proud of what it looks like. Its a perfect looking machine. At a point in time when he had a good idea of the horrible outcome of the situation, he had asked me to take care of that tractor in particular, because he knew I had a place to store it, protect it and take care of it,.......I’m still having a hard time seeing the keyboard. When I can see more clearly, I will upload all the pictures I took while I was there. From the bottom of my heart, thank you everyone. Scott

Just pulled new pin after cutting it and drilling hole doesn't look bad. I know it's not original but I got plenty of this 3/4 inch rod stock lol

Scott...sorry for your loss to you and your family. Just so you know...Adam's screen name was "hondagod64" . (I edited that in your 1st post) He was a supporter on Red Square...joined April 12, 2014. He had over 106 posts and was a constant contributor for a time. He has some excellent pictures of some of his projects in the "Gallery" and he will be missed. One thing we do now for members that have passed, is we show the members name in "green" on all of his previous posts. He will be a member here as long as Red Square exists.

Mine are 25’ tall or less, it makes me sad to think that in a handful of years they could get wiped out. my property was a corn field 18 years ago when I first went to look at it. Today it has about 200-250 trees of various species on it some that we planted and others that God did through the process of nature that He set up. In either case, we are really enjoying them now that we have real shade and can have a functioning 1/2 acre woods Some pics playing with the kids in the backyard around said trees last week... Most of the above trees are only about 10 years old but this summer when full of leaves, it was finally beginning to feel like a “REAL” woods albeit a small one!

Nice score Ryan!! Every one should have one odd ball in their line up. The Mafia group has @WHX21 . If I remember right those Amigo's had kind of a strange transmission set up. Looking forward to checking it out in person.

Ed, Thank you for your reply. Much appreciated. Thank you for the information Thats what I needed to point me in the right direction. Im thinking as things move along, I can have Kathryn get specific pictures to help figure things out. I can see why he spoke highly of the Wheel Horse Club, and enjoyed being a member.

This is the first fall that we have had a functional bagger tractor in the household...boy it is nice with the growing maple and ash trees on our property. The more that I use JackRabbit, the more I like him. Good multipurpose machine for Caleb. Right now I have the benefit of having both of them in my household @Aldon recognize those rims and tires?

Like craftsmanmower I have B&S 15HP Thumper on my Suburban SS15 great, great engine was in the woods covered for a number of years took me a while to get it going.... I had all kinds of spark issues and could not get a good spark with it until I found a NOS original coil (non electronic) put that puppy on and she mated with the existing flywheel & 50 year old magnets and the spark was super.... then came the carburetor you are correct these engines have the LARGE flow jet Carbs the mile long fuel atomizer rod which if you can get out make sure you say a special prayer to your favorite saint.. mine would NOT so I carefully drilled it out without damaging the seat replaced the rod, cleaned the rest of it thoroughly ….. that was five yrs ago and to this day is the best starting and running tractor I have loves to take my abuse and the sound the engine makes is the closest to a John popper I know.... attaching some befores and afters.

Dan—that’s a good idea. I could use Kevin’s packing skills to load and haul all this junk to the dump! I can’t wait to watch your next build Dan if it is the one that I’m thinking of... Richard—I always like seeing that shop. One of the things I noticed in your shop was the dual ceiling fans. I’m planning on installing one of those for sure. Jim—I/we will be ready for you. Looking forward to getting this phase of the project done. Sounds like I might have to put pad locks on my plows before Saturday... Richie—I like that lift! That is a real back saver and will have no problem getting your project at just the right height to make it easy accomplish the task at hand.

to the Scott. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. My condolences to you, your parents, and Kathryn. There are many members here that will be able to answer any questions . Just a couple general points regarding estimating value. Quality close up pictures of the items are necessary for the assessment. Readable pictures of any model/serial numbers will help. The location can be a factor in the value. Any paper trail (manuals, purchase and repair records, maintenance records) can add value. After the value is determined, our classified section can certainly be used to sell the items. Please read the rules section. There many other sites ( Craigs List, Facebook market place, and other tractor sites) that could also be used to sell. Best of luck to you in whatever you decide.

Im with you @Shynon. I just got this about a month ago. Going to set it up with ramps on both sides to drive a tractor over it. Lifts about 6’ high and I believe it is rated about 1500lbs.

Just a little heat from a propane torch and water plus lots of lube. And my air hammer went to work annnnnnnnnd success. Now putting in new rod and newer hitch on the 552 like I done to the 701 and 502. I got 1 more for 753 too

I would use a coating of never-seize on the head bolts, especially the ones near the exhaust. Trust me, twenty years from now you will appreciate it.

Right now the 552 has that

Funny thing about those rocks - If I can't Dodge 'em, I can always Ram 'em.
  23. 3 points
I don't believe that those chips in the magnets are any thing to be concerned about. As for the head bolts - I usually reuse the head bolts on Kohler engines and have not had an issue. My normal procedure is to torque them to factory specs, then run the engine until till it is good & warm. I will then re-torque the head bolts while the engine is warm.
  24. 3 points
It all starts with a solid foundation. Make sure you’ve got a Chevy that’s built “Like a Rock”! Then add more quality stuff, like a Wheelhorse or ten! I’m starting to think Norman will have to be the new Big Show Horse Hauler because now including the whole family, we’ll have to bring 4 cruisers just to get around... then I’ll have to save room for my haul AT the show!
  25. 3 points
This is a daunting task Jim, I hauled 3 heaping pick up truck loads out & I don't think that I have any more room now than I did before. Maybe I need a bigger truck, or have @pullstart show me how to load mine? Gonna keep digging though, I need room to work on this winter's resto project.

Got a nice patina anyway... you mess with that you outta the will...Least the Kohler shouldn't be to too hard to get running. Newborn ain't home from the hospital yet and you is out scoring tractors. .. someone's gonna have coniptions when she figures it out ...just sayin!

Very sorry for your loss... You will find a great deal of Wheel Horse knowledge here to help you with whatever you decide to do.

fellas.. blast cab looks like it doesn't get used Richard I best come and mafia it. You got way to many plows Josh especially when @Coulter Caleb don't plow no more.... I best mafia his too!. 'Cept them kerosene and smudge pot heaters are gassing me out ....Be over this weekend Jack with a furnace get ready I want it fairly cleaned up for work. Yer wife is on your case about gettin heat out there she's helping...then again heard she's the bread winner ..best send her to work! Speaking of shop cleanup a mouse told me Dan @Achto was cleaning out his garage...could this be true?? I'm gonna have a heart attack.....I'm thinkin he cleans up his act he won't know how to act and we won't see anymore choice roll out from it anymore....

I use my two car garage part of house for my woodworking shop. A little disorganized now from the small flood we had. It occasionally doubles as a winery and distillery also. Tractor shop is in another shed which is a one car garage size.

I have the good fortune of having two shops, one for woodworking and one for plus a small barn for storage. The woodworking shop was our guest house prior to building our new house. The barn has room for seven on the main floor and lots of parts in the haymow. And the shop can hold a bunch of stallions.

My honey, me, and our puppy dog, spent some time in the woods today. We wanted to test out the splitter after getting it reassembled yesterday. That went quite well. Very satisfied. We also worked on expanding the path system that we've been building in the forest. We cleared a spur between two existing paths so as to be able to access the left side of the forest with the tractors. Absolutely love being out there!

Hey now @WHX21 that 953 is a done deal.. just waiting for Saturday. I am tractor tight after this sound like someone you all know??? ok maybe one more for my narrow front but the way my project are stacking up definitely won't get to that until maybe next year..but I'll make a threat when I get it. BUT my local buddie @PeacemakerJack found this awesome article about demco and the amigo tractors I have to thank him really made me appreciate the work that went into making these tractors. Here it is if you want a good read and thank you Josh again! https://gardentractortalk.com/forums/topic/921-ahead-of-its-time-amigo-article-from-lagc-magazine/

Snow can make it even better sometimes. Makes it REALLY REALLY quiet. No bugs in the winter. No pollen in the winter. Crisp dry air and we can look up and see the Milky Way and the stars are very very clear here. We may possibly be slightly excited for the snow season coming up because we have better trail access this year than we have in the past and we're looking forward to doing a lot of snowshoeing in our forest.

Love those trails and your forest. I would be in heaven up there, till it snowed.

While Engine swap will be made, i would also try to seperate clutch and Brake and even Hydraulic pump by a seperate added pulley. Pulley's ordered, hope they will arrive soon. Additionally i found a left Pedal from a WH GT14 via * bay what seems to fit to my Pedalshaft. It arrives today from USA and after measurement it seems clear - yes it fit's. I added a grease fitting M6 shortthread what fit's perfectly without piercing to shaft. Will do this also on the right side Pedal too.

Our ash trees are gone here in western Pennsylvania. I've been cutting down the 35 that we used to have in our backyard over the past couple years. It's a shame to see how fast they went. Once you get woodpeckers working over the trees to get at the Ash Borer Beetle larvae, the tree is toast. If cut right away after it dies the trees still make good lumber. The firewood is excellent, too. If you wait too long after they die, the tree gets brittle and the hinge wood snaps if you have to "pull" the tree while felling it. It's best to use heavy guide ropes and wedge the tree across a FLAT felling cut. Cheers! Dave

Thanks, I know it seems like a no brainer but I'll have to borrow a little from our emergency fund to make the deal. I will most likely sell of the snowblower and rototiller to get the borrowed amount back. Already have 2 tillers and snowblowers..

To Purchase or not to purchase? People ask the silliest questions don't they? BUY THEM!

That is the standard fixed 3 amp charge system for Techys. Eric is right you pull one diode and it becomes a 1.5 amp charger. Like I said I didn't bother to try it as you also have to pull the flywheel and swap in the the correct magneto which is also the charging stator. Does your engine have that?? I use mine in the winter to haul coal...She fires right up and I just put her on the charger every 2 months instead of 3. If you are thinking of adding lights they would have to be pretty small LED with only 3 amps to work with...

That turned into a really nice tractor. I have spark when turning by hand. Nothing to write home about. Shocks me pretty good when I hold the plug wire so hoping it works. I will report on the carb. When it gets here.

Ding Ding Ding. We've got a winner...! Fastenal had had them in the length I needed. Grade five and 2". The price was reasonable and the shipping direct to me was cheaper than them doing an inter-branch transfer to our closest Fastenal location. Thanks for all the help, fellows. Cheers! Dave

Made huge progress today! I forgot to mention that yesterday I found that they flywheel was loose. That was my knocking sound. Engine is fine. I think it may have partially sheared the flywheel key, as it cranks hard occasionally and it pings some. I got some 1/4 inch stock earlier and cut it to length for the crank pulley and clutch. The hole that the tensioner shaft runs through is wallered out some and it throws the belt, but i have it rigged temporarily where it doesn't. I put my new fuel pump on it so that I could run it longer than I had been by just filling up the fuel bowl. I started it, and pushed the hydro lever to the forward position with a screwdriver since the plastic slide plate (not sure of the proper term) is broken. Nothing happened. Pushed it to reverse. Same result. I forcefully slammed it back into forward and it took off. It was binding on the remnants of the plastic slide plate and wouldn't fully go into forward gear. Reverse works now too. The tractor seemed extremely sluggish and was actually worse when it was revved up. I looked down to see that the axle was spinning in the hub on the side that the wheel was mostly slid off of when I got it. I didn't have a woodruff key for that, so I temporarily put a piece of 1/4 stock in it so that I could move it around. The hydro unit makes some noise but seems to be strong. I hooked it to my little 85 Toyota pickup and it pulled it with ease. I thought about hooking it to my V10 Dodge truck but I didn't want to push my luck. I'll have to do some closer looking in the daylight but It has a decent leak, either from the hydro shaft seal or from the oil filter. There was a little gouge in the oil filter sealing surface, probably from someone trying to chisel the filter off in the past, but it didn't look to be across the whole surface. Now I need to buy a throttle and choke cable and the slide part for the forward/reverse lever and I'll be in business! And most importantly, pictures!
