I only have one pic of teardown and this is where I'm at today, I've had the frame and tins blasted. I'm using a 5091 8 speed tranny that has 1-1/8" axles so I'm having the ends of the axles turned down to 1" so I can use the Ranger hubs. I decided to paint the rims rather than powder them so I don't scratch them up when mounting the rear tires. Like my last Ranger this Kohler will be recoil start.

Having just become the new owner of Anglo Traction’s most immaculate C120, felt it only right to rejoin the Wheelhorse forum. Thank you Richard for doing the best restoration possible on this amazing machine. Simply stunning work every time you restore anything !!! Looking forward to using the C120, mainly for mowing and some hauling. Just too perfect to use really, but that is what they were designed and made for !!! will try hard to look after her.

Nobody i want to talk to or music i need badly enough for $350.00. Some old speakers and a $20 yard sale amp running off my laptop is good enough. The old land line phone also seems to still work. Guess i am just a cheap old SOB

I received these as a gift. I always used the cheapest wired buds i could find. Sony MDR 1000x cordless headphone with noise reduction. Bluetooth enabled and they connect easily to both my ipad and my cheap Tracfone cell phone. I have never tried noise reduction headphones before so i was / am schocked at their performance , comfort on my fat head and great battery life. Normally i bring my ipad to the garage when working so now tv radio and all my personal music is at hand when woking on the old horses. They also sync to my cell so i can take a phone call while wearing them. If you get a chance try a pair next time ....I will never go back to the cranked up tunes in the garage. Using my blutoothed cell phone with them I can protect my ears while working in the yard and not miss a call now. Kids are always calling for a pickup and such. Owned them 6 months now and wanted to mention it how a device actually helped woth the Horse hobby. Anyone else use NR headphones or buds ? i

'Ow do, Tipp. Before a valuation, we need photo's, model, year, what attachments etc. If you also go on myoldmachine.com, link at top of page, you may have better luck. There are some Irish lads on there. Put an add in the for sale section, with photo's etc. I'd come over and have a look myself, but it's a long, long way to Tipperary. Regards. Norm.

As this is now a completed project I thought I’d post a picture up in this section. (More pics in Restoration’s under ‘Something different’).

My name is Danny, and I have a “drug” problem... My wife “drug” me into another antique store today. Most of the places I get drug have little that interests me, but a few of them have some old tools. I rarely buy anything that I do not see a use for, but today was different. I found this plier like tool that appears quite old, but I have no. Idea what it was designed to do. So of course I bought it! I am hoping someone can tell me what it is? It is a little over 15 inches long. The hole in one jaw is about 7/8”, and the ball is about 9/16” in diameter. The hinge is spring loaded. What do I have? It has no marking of any kind. Thanks! I smeared dirty grease on the bottom of a parts oil pan to spot in the upgraded shaft. All clears! I need to replace the pillow block and when I do, I’ll space it out to make up for the length I lost in the bends and all will be well. And after it is together and I tear it apart, I’ll plug up some of those “extra”holes in the frame.

Municipal or Industrial? I was also a water treatment plant superintendent for our small town for 17 years at the same time I was the waste water super. It was a 1 horse town, and I was the horse! Some would say the horses a$$!

What do you mean "gettin" . Been that way all my life. I've worked hard enough now to enjoy watching other people work!

So I'm in the process of purchasing a new home. With that being said I had alot of stuff to go through and get moved to my new storage location. I officially went through my garage this fall and cleaned my storage location at my dads. Well I had one more storage area to go through and with it being 25x30 I knew there was some stuff in there. Now I have had this storage location for the last 4 years and I will admit I forgot about a lot of stuff that was in there. Right off the bat I found a few doubles of implements I had and I also found more. But to my surprise I found 3 Chevy 327 small block engines with the early fuelie heads and all, two have power glide transmissions and one has a 4 speed. I completely forgot these were in there and was seriously in amazement when I came across them. I purchased them right when I moved the last time and they got stuffed in there and as life goes priorities come first so they were forgotten and I still have not got to that project. So with this all being said. What's the craziest thing you found in your shop or storage you forgot about?

You got a real problem Chris...but no sympathy here..... I lived in the same place for 30 + years and have got $hi% i have no idea...God forbid I ever move..... Good luck bro!

A friend (Allis Chalmers GT guy) gave me a heads up over the weekend that the local indoor flea market had a set of ag tires in one of the booths. I was able to go shopping there today and kept my eyes open for them. For $75, I got a pair of 23 10.50-12 USA made Carslile bars, on what look like Cub Cadet rims that are pretty close to NOS(still some nubs on them). They really "beef" up the look of the custom Horse. Mike the Aspie

The Ranger I built this summer for the boys has gone to a new owner so I’m starting on another one that will be basically the same build but with a few small changes. I’m hoping to have this one done by late spring. This ‘68 is gonna be red and an 8 speed like the last one and will have a K181 engine. I’m wanting to powder coat this one. Here’s a couple of pics of what I started with.

Folks I found this the other day when I was looking around for a tire valve removal type tool. It's on clearance on Wally World and I have no idea how long it will be available. 4/8 bucks with free shipping I figured I better share it with you all. I ordered one. Seems to be of reasonably usable quality. The longer blue handle would really come in handy for not only installing tire valves like it's made for but also holding the tube in place so it can't fall back into the wheel when you're installing them. I don't know if I'm allowed to post a link so if you want it please PM me. Here's a screenshot so you can use these words to search it on Walmart.com.

Just finishing off the thread....finally dug out the 42" deck and got it back together. That pulley looks nice in there. The deck wheels bushings were egged out and the shaft worn oval. Lathe made a bolt and two wheel bushings from some hex stock. The old grease was rock solid inside the wheel so I cleaned it and the zerk was able to flow grease. Looking forward to see how the deck operate with that heavy solid pulley. I will clean it up and paint the deck over the winter.

Doesn’t look like much, but there was some tedious detail to BOLT THE ENGINE DOWN!! I changed the oil while it was on the hoist.

I owned one of those for about a half hour! I was at a show and had an 855 I was selling. A buyer came along that insisted I had to take a trad-in and he met my lowest acceptable price so I loaded it up and headed to his house, put the old Wards garden tractor on the trailed and back to the show I went. Before I had parked there was a fellow wanting to buy the Monkey Ward, sold it to him for $ 100, shortest time I ever owned a GT and the best profit I ever made on one.

here comes the pictures. they are not award winning (my first attempt) any questions please ask. steering bushing is a steel 3/4 id x 1" od with a 1" stop collar welded to it. drilled thru set screw location on stop collar. used a 1/4" brake line and a 3/8" x 1/8" reducer bushing to screw zerk into.

I changed tires for over 20 yrs. I had enough of that baloney. Some of those HP tires with the tiny sidewalls were murder. They got tire machines now that do all the work. I don't even change my own oil anymore on our vehicles. Not worth it. I can spend $30 on filter and oil or pay $45 and not have to crawl on the floor and have to deal with oil disposal and mess. I can drop off my truck and go home and get other things done. Same with tires. Restoring a tractor? I take the wheels off and bring them down to the guys at the shop. Go home paint some parts. While the paint is drying I go get the bare wheels and give them to the sand blaster. Go home and do more work. Next day I pick up the wheels take them home and paint them. When they are cured I take them back to the tire store and they put on the new skins. An hour or so later they are ready and the tractor is together by now. Bolt them on and done.

How do all, l made a short video awhile back but for some reason (me I suspect) it wouldn’t load. I will try again soon or maybe use YouTube whichever works. There is one major disadvantage to my design and one little ‘niggle’ that I’m going to have to live with. The niggle is the hyro over runs, I’m having to squeeze down on the backwards pedal to slow down going forwards and vice versa when in reverse, I’ve got the hang of it but it’s not perfect by any means. The major disadvantage is unless your lifting or crowding as you load the bucket, you break traction and spin the wheel. This isn’t a problem most of the time as I’m loading dung off a concrete floor and can keep the driving wheels loaded down. But say you wanted to grade a surface you would struggle to stop the wheels from spinning, in that type of situation a tractor loader would be much better tool. But for my needs it fits the bill, one other thing, I’m really surprised how heavy the steering is with or without a loaded bucket, the seating position and oil tank all add up I suppose.

Thanks She has mostly been a barn queen lol. I use it to give the kids rides around the yard, and run it down to the mailbox and back. Ive been busy with other projects, but the snow will be flying soon so i plan to finish the raider up and go through my other horse this winter... Maybe even find another 😁

Thanks for all the replies and welcomes. This Wheel Horse really isn't a good candidate for a total restoration. I'll probably look for Kohler instead I did find a couple of Tecumseh snowblower engines of that era on Ebay. Not sure if that would be a good route for a novice. Thanks again.

May be too small a diameter for the machines...but why would you want to?? I have never seen a bell with a damaged surface other than some rust that you can take off with some emery cloth. The brass rivets do not damage the steel bell. Besides you can get good used bell for not much more than a shop would charge to resurface...if they could do it.

Put an HH-70 on the L107 (Avatar Pic) while my Father still had it back about 1990 (Only reason was to get ACR as he was having issues with his shoulder and had been to frugal to buy an L157 in 1967). That HH70 starts instantly year round and in all that time the only issue was some dirt in the carb a few years ago. Never had a points problem (like some on my Kohlers) Think I changed the spark plug a few years ago. She is my chore tractor and is used several time sa week for three seasons and then once a week in the winter. If you want to sell your 7hp techy I would be interested... (Also have his circa 1970 Troybilt tiller with a HH60. Only used once a year but fires up on the third pull and runs great....)

No. A zerk may lead to over greasing. Excess grease will get on you friction surface. Pull the PTO bell once or twice a season. N work some grease into the needle bearing but not an excessive amount

I’m new to this, but REALLY impressed at how helpful everyone is. Thanks to all.

If you want to stay original, then I would keep looking for the correct Tecumseh engine. If original is not the goal, then my fist choice would be a Kohler K181 or Kohler Magnum 8hp. A Brigg's I/C engine would not be a bad choice either.
  37. 2 points
Unless you want to keep it as close to original as possible I'd suggest a Kohler 7 or 8hp. Easier to find and a much better engine. The install would be pretty simple.

I have no idea of the value of a in Tipperary, Ireland, but they must be a bit hard to come by. We do have some members in the UK who could be interested in it. Perhaps if you were to make a new posting in the European Introductions page and include some photos ans a bit more information you would get a better idea of value and desirability. https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/forum/77-euro-introductions/

I'd have had someone else change the rears but couldn't find a shop anywhere convenient so Trina bought us an HF manual tire changer. Awesome!!!

Ha! You beat @953 nut to the birthday thing! He's going to want your first-borne! Now, I just have to time it just right so he gets mine! She's in Germany, so shipping should be easy. 😀

I'm thinking that when I put the replacement crankshaft in Trina's 657 Tecumseh engine I'm going to replace the points with a module. One upside to this would be that I don't need to worry about timing the points. And other one is that I would not need to take it back apart unless the module failed. Are there any known downsides or negatives to replacing the points with a module?

So the steering shaft feels like getting in the way of the oil pan. My torch begs to differ.

On page three of this manual you will find a procedure for setting the "Neutral Adjustment" which will stop the tractor. To hold mine in place on a hill I lower the FEL bucket or drop a 4 X 4 on a string that I carry. A bit crude but it works.
