10 pointsI have spent at least 30 minutes looking for some parts for an M14 in the shop tonight.I bought an RR and new fuel pump and put them with other WH parts for safe keeping. It seems I spend more time looking for stuff these days.Put it where I won't lose it and guess what, they disapear.I swear I find stuff that I got years ago and forgot what I bought them for.Darn, I didn't know I had that.I am sure this is not just me.

10 pointsThe two best storage solutions are narrow shelves so nothing can be placed in front of anything and a small work bench so you have to keep it clean! I have neither of these and am considering the installation of security cameras so I can watch the tape to see where the heck I put something.

8 pointsI have been having problems with my 1988 518-H surging. Finally I decided to rebuild the carb, After seeing the price of the kit ( 47.00 ) I found a brand new aftermarket carb on Ebay $64.oo. I installed it today. The tractor sounds and runs like brand new.

8 pointsNot sure if this is the place to post this but here goes. Every year in the county that I live in they have what they call a Fall foilage tour. Sometimes the leaves cooperate but the real reason for it is to get folks out for a good time and to learn about businesses and activities in the area that they otherwise wouldn't of known existed. Of course there is always a lunch stop and we always get to meet the most wonderful people. This event is held in different parts of the county each year giving everyone a chance to display what they offer. Now to the point as to why I posted this in a tractor site. Turns out that the first stop on the tour was at a farm displaying antique farming equipment provided by the local antique power equipment club. They had a 1955 John Deere crawler, a corn shucker made from the engine of an antique combine and numerous other tractors demonstrating their plowing capabilities. I did not see any Gt's so I enquired as to why not. I was promptly informed that they had no members that owned any but would love to have because the children were always attracted to them. Needless to say that when my wife and I told them that we had several and would love to help out, the club President signed us up and we became members on the spot. We are looking forward to participating in the outings but most of all, putting smiles on the faces of children along with hopefully building a new generation of GT enthusiast. You just never know what opportunities are out there.

7 pointsWe ended up doing something similar here in Maine. Also kind of by accident. I've been going to the Owls Head transportation museum Truck and Tractor Show for 3 or 4 years in a row now. Originally it was for the full-size trucks. My father was a driver. I'm a driver. Been around them my whole life. I love trucks. No Way Around It. My blood is probably made out of slightly red tinted Diesel. Then Along Came the Wheelhorses. So this year we wanted to bring one or two tractors and I called the museum and one of the executive level people there took the time to call me back. He was actually - excited - that I was going to bring a garden tractor because they've been wanting them there for years and get very little tractor showing of any size at that event. As it turns out anybody who brings a vehicle of any kind to a display at Owls Head gets in for free. Pretty cool stuff.

5 pointsI agree - but gentlemen, a word of advice: borrow and return said device in the EXACT same condition, including how the cord is wrapped, where it was in her drawer, in the correct bathroom, without greasy fingerprints or chips, old paint or glue on it anywhere etc... Do not ask me why I know these rules, just suffice it to say that if you do not follow these basic guidelines you will realize that new blow dryers are more expensive nowadays than the old red wire and a blower type that you probably should have had in the garage anyways...... As Red Green says: I'm a man, I can change, I guess, If I have too...

4 pointsDon’t get discouraged. I paid $400 for mine and it ran and moved when I got it. After getting it home and trying it out, it started smoking worse and worse. The transmission was strong but made a nice grinding noise the more I drove it. I was just happy to finally get a GT14. They are nearly non-existent in Florida. At least where I am. And I know I have put more than $400 in a $400 tractor. But, I would do it again in a heartbeat. I love this thing and I don’t even have all the bugs worked out yet. Sell it? Not a chance. If you can find a parts tractor with an Eaton 1100 in it, I will help walk you through it if you decided to go that route. I do have a complete C-175 Sunstrand transmission assembly here on the floor if you were closer I’d give you. Not sure how much shipping would be on just the pump but if you could arrainge it with fastenal, I’ll send it to you. I know it worked when I stripped the tractor down. I was going to use it in my rat tractor that I stopped. I can’t guarantee it but I know it worked. It’s a chance. Good luck with whatever you decide. I’ll help as much as I can. 👍

4 pointsJust wanted to take a minute to put a reminder out there to all you wood burners. Colder weather is upon us at least here in New England and my honey has fired up the stove several times already. We've been having some issues getting a good draft and yesterday we figured out why. I opened up the flue clean out which is 16 in off the floor and it was full of soot just about to that point. I went up on the roof and cleaned out the chimney from the top down and just about the same amount fell out of the chimney again. Turns out there were two dinner plate like buildups of creosote in there. Almost no opening for the smoke to get through. Good to go for another year. Please don't put it off and please don't assume it's okay.

4 pointsIf you've been married to the same women for more than 20 years, you should know all the rules by then. Thanks guys heat and some WD 40 it is. By the way WD 40 is one of the best products to clean and protect stainless steel, use to use it on the sinks, wrapper, and tables in the butcher shop at work, just don't let the food inspectors, or the OSHA guys know .

4 pointsFacts is facts... Sometimes I think women try to smell good for each other, not men. I have never one single time seen a bottle that was marked: Ode De Gear Oil Or Chanel Number 10 W 30. True enough Dan. I'll make sure I keep that stuff in the forklift.

4 pointsKnow what you mean. Drove Autocars in the oilfield years ago. Told the wife the other day that diesel smoke to me is like top of the line perfume to a woman. LOL

4 pointsI've been doing that so long I can't remember not being this way. It's certainly not just you. I've been known to put things away where I know I can find them... And hide them from myself.

4 pointsMe and the Patriot horse b80 had a little discussion today with a boulder that has been working its way up through the surface of the ramp that we just got done building back in May. Turned out to be one of those tip of the iceberg only showing kind of scenarios. I knew it couldn't have been too immense because I was involved in 95% of the construction of this ramp. So I got a hold of a few garden tools and started scraping around the edges of it. I had to dig down about 20 inch or so and get the chains wrapped around it. At that point it was a very heavily weighted 925 lb tractor versus a rock that is 18 to 20 in across in every direction and dense material so it probably weighs between 300 and 400 lb. Maybe more? On the second attempt ... dragged out.

3 pointsPut a Kubota V2203 into storage a few years ago and stuffed paper toweling first into the intake followed with a plastic bag to keep critters from nesting. Recently brought the engine out from its hiding place, hooked up a battery and fuel, removed the plastic bag but forgot about the paper towel. Towel was intended to keep out moisture.

3 pointsHello and good evening Ed: I once heard a story story about a fellow in central Pennsylvania who had a few hundred acres and a hired man to help him with the farming. As he approached his mid 80s he decided to consider different crops that wouldn't require so much dirt work. One day he told the hired man that he had decided to plant 45 of his acres in black walnut trees. He figured walnut trees yield nuts as they grow and valuable timber when they are mature. The hired man said, "Are you crazy? Walnut trees take 75 years to mature!" The old farmer got up, put on his gloves and said, "We better get started this afternoon." Cheers! Dave

3 pointsI did think of having four wheels on rocking beams but decided against it for now. I had bought four wheels extra cheap from eBay. The seller bumped the price up soon after, probably realizing his listing mistake. I made and tried the four wheel arrangement which could be easily changed over via quick release R clips. Could even have three wheels, two one side and one the other. The rocking beam parts before assembly and on the trailer. The steering column was made to hinge down for more compact storage but didn't save much space so just left in the upright position. The bracing strut can be fitted as shown, or in a horizontal position which I thought might make the assembly more rigid. Extra bolt holes were drilled in the face of the seat box. Again left as it is as no difference either way. Some of the column and steering parts. I tried a chain and sprocket first, parts from a lawn mower which were heavy and had too much free movement. Later changed to push / pull rods. The top sprocket which had a D shaped hole was pressed onto it's 1/2" shaft after filing the shaft to fit. Was going to be welded but it hasn't moved yet. The yoke is a mixture of box section and tube shown before welding by the Showman, along with the following parts. Thanks Chris. The bottom sprocket, a 3/8" drive socket, bolt and tube, were all welded together forming the pivot and drive between the trailer and tractor. A piece of shim was inserted to take up the gap around the socket.

3 pointsEric, The difference with age is that you're fully aware it was a dumb thing to do.At twenty maybe not so much.

3 pointsI had a chimney fire at the old house, one morning in my pj pants and no shirt, barefoot with about 1’ of snow outside and on the roof. I happened to have a bucket of wash water nearby, I ran out the basement, up and around the house, up the ladder and across the 3/12 pitch roof to dump the water down the he chimney SO QUICK that nobody knew I had been outside. Shut the stove down for about a month. In fear, but made myself an agreement that saving so much money heating with wood, I could afford to clean the chimney once a month.

3 pointsMike I don't mean to burst your bubble but I don't think it's just going to get any better. I'm twice as old as I was half my age ago and I still do as much stupid stuff as I used to. Maybe even more...

3 pointsThis is interesting. Last summer my wife and I went to a truck show. I never knew that such a thing existed but it had everything from pickups to full size rigs and covered just about every year. We had a blast.
