Hi all, as i see, for most Wheel Horse owners, the 212-Series seems not be a real Wheel Horse, because of different technical issues. I got my little Tractor for free, after it was in a burning Garage. So the first impression was - oh my God - but i loved the Shape of that little Tractor, so i decided, to bring it back to work. i changed new tyres on, i rebuilt the electric, as far as it will be needed then i do the first mow. ok, the Blades was also not that sharp, so i changed them to brand new ones. i have the three blade deck, what was also very damaged in the last few years (it was a 1989 build) I refurbish the engine as far as needed, i cleaned and rework the steering axle, even the grease connectors, put new lights on, because some parts are melted, give a new steering wheel from a kia with Airbag - (deactivated) and so on... The last few months, it worked so far better than i expected, so i rebuilt it step by step. In case of the fire, the damages was not so dramatical, the most troubles was happen from the firefighters. shure they don't have to save it in good condition, they just have to stop the fire - thats it. i agree to that 100% - but everytime i looked this little tractor, i hear a voice inside me "please save me" Ok, i will do so. Actually, i use it as my personally multi tool. To do that, i added some features. first i gets an european Trailer Hook from an Iveco - yes 2Tons of capacity was a bit funny, but it fits perfect and i can use my car trailer - a light 700kg type, what fits perfectly and the optic looks pretty nice. The Power of the Onan e125V is strong enough, to climb also 17% upwards, more than enough for my needs. To be nearly perfect multi tool, i added a strong frame improovement and a hydraulik Frontloader. it have just lifted a maximum of 100 Kilos and just if it really needed, but the ability to lift is 700Kilos. i know, 100 kilo on frontloader was about 200 kilos on front axle. I do not want to kill it, it was just a ability to do in case. Nearly the whole Front loader was made of Aluminium. Except the mainholder and Frameimproovement, they are made of steel. Just have to deal with oil consumption, it seems, the intake valve seal seems to be defect. So the "little Pusher" blows blue Oilsmell while Start.

Kev, when you get older and fart when lifting something, you need to check your shorts . I know TMI.

Hi folks, picked this up this evening. Not much there to look at, but most of my motivation was looking for a decent prospect to put a hit and miss engine on. The kohler actually runs pretty well though. And the original motor came with it, although pretty much only in bits a pieces. Only real concern right now is i cant get reverse to work, hopefully some searchin will instill some answers. Probably gonna just try to get revervse fuctional first. Then try to fit a hit/miss to it and see how it goes, if it turns out decent, ill think about tearing it down and doing some cleaning and painting. Im thinkink of using a Stover model k 1 1/2 hp hit and miss. Anywho just sharing, mike

What about a simple lever on a heavy base Eric? It could break down easy. Or use a fork in a tree and a pole! I just throw my back out, lift with my legs and grunt and (sometimes fart) while I’m swapping tractor engines... even though there is a cherry picker right outside my shop.

The last time I didn't use anything but my back on my 20 hp onan! I payed for for about a week back!!!😂

I'm curious to know why. Calcium chloride we all know can and will corrode steel. Do not use it. Most of us use rv antifreeze or windshield washer fluid. Other things are available for additional costs. Fluid filling is the best way to keep the weight on the ground where you need it... And off the tractor where you don't. It physically pushes down across a more even section of the tires literally squeezing the rubber to the ground with much less concern for proper inflation creating an equal amount of ground pressure throughout the tire contact area. I use my 1974 B80 just as you are looking to do. I have 4 oversized tires, all filled with rimguard. I also have another 100 pounds of steel weights. My tractor weighs around 925 pounds. The rear of mine is AG's. I can't speak for chains yet but I do certainly agree with the above statement by @JAinVA. You need a weak link in the drivetrain. We live on a mountain side and I have pulled well over a thousand pounds more times than I can count with this tractor.

Wow looks like the perfect candidate for just such a project Mike! The motor appears to be a 241 built for a short frame horse and would be reusable for a multitude of other projects. Whatever you do please try and keep the seat and rear end if possible....they are just plain cool! Also try and do a build thread as many here would be interested.

I’ve been working on this 416-8 for a month now. Put on a new seat from northern tool. New fuel pump. Installed a brinly hitch (purchased from wheel horse parts and more) also added new tires, rear Carlisle trac cheifs-front Carlisle turf masters. I also repaired where the seat mount bracket bolts to the center console by beefing it up with angle iron. Of course still not done.

to @Tractorhead Stefan! I’ve been to Bavaria, heading to München again next year, about this time! Nice loader, that looks like it’s built quite nice. Did you do the aluminum welding? Here is my “German kid” Jil after driving my 502 in the field this past August. She’s from Duisburg, she was our exchange student 5 years ago, now she’s in college.

Not duals, no. I didn't clarify that. What I have is four tires all the way around that are larger than stock and all are fluid-filled. On my tractor there is 255 pounds of fluid weight, alone. I do have the type of receiver hitch that bolts to the square 2 inch axle tubes. There is a vendor here on redsquare that sells an extremely heavy duty version of a hitch that does both. It goes through the Cross Pin that you're talking about and also bolts to the 2-inch Square tubes as mine does. ************* Please pay very special attention to this next piece. Your your concern with that tractor is not how much you can pull. It is how much you can STOP. There is only one little brake drum on these tractors. That's not enough to be going downhill or losing control going uphill while Towing something extremely heavy. I limited myself to a certain size of trailer for that very reason. I feel comfortable on my tractor, on my land, with me driving, with the way that I've built things. You have to be certain that you feel the same way with your own situation.

The tobacco grown by the Amish in PA has a lower nicotine content. It is mixed with southern tobacco to balance the nicotine in cigarettes. Just another piece of useless information stuck in my brain, but where did I leave my keys? Jim

There was a suburban 725 that is wwwaaaaayyy prettier than this one that i looked at yesturday, i should have bought it, there were a few things not quitevright with it or atleast i didnt understand about the tractor at the moment.....but i saw this one....going in knowing it hadnt been attempted to being restored, so i woudnt feel bad about having to re- enginnerer a liitle bit to fit my needs. . Prolly overpaid a little bit, but i figured the kohler engine alone had some value to it, and the old fella that sold it to me was i nice guy!!

Yah real funny guys 'till somebody gets a razor cut, gets infected and has to use his wife's nylons over his face to make a living instead of wearing them on his legs like Ritchie does....real funny. Sides one should be wearing off nubbies with good old fashioned seat time Dan we didn't mean to hijack your thread with our nonsense ! BTW Glad to hear you got your Onan crank problem sorted out

I don’t see a price here, but if the other guys found it and say it’s a good one, I’ll add that a very similar 502 was my first Wheelhorse and I wish I could find more round hoods from that era. Here’s mine now... I’ve got the fenders and tool box, but took a likin’ to the bare rear end..

More puttering with the GT2500 today. Figured out that the mystery wires at the back of the tractor are for the seat switch and clutch interlock switch. Pulled the clutch switch out and checked it, still works. Scuffed the rust off of it and blasted it with electrical contact cleaner. Going to rewire it. I need a connector for it and also the actuator that attaches to the clutch idler arm. Gonna get that from A-Z. I reinstalled the brake band with the new lining and adjusted that up. The brake pedal doesn't return too easily when I take my foot off it. Thinking maybe a new spring will help that, already kroiled the rotation points a bit. Need to pick up some wheels for the grinder to strip the paint and rust off the fender pan so I can get that repainted.

@ebinmaine this will be right up your alley as I know you like a bargain . A few years ago I bought a hoist that is used to move people from beds , into tubs etc from Goodwill for $25.00 rated to lift 500 lbs. I move engines , jack up tractors . Has nice wheels just like an auto hoist for engines etc. I would send you a picture but I am too lazy to walk out to the shed.

If you're mowing little hills like I have Ags loaded and weighted, also works just fine in the snow on turf or asphalt, again just personal preference and experiences, Jeff.

EB I got a couple things I use, one is a truck crane mounted to a heavy metal work table. I use it the most. Next, I got a chain hoist hung from rafters and last is a section of unistrut mounted on the ceiling. The unistrut is pretty cheap. It can be purchased at the box stores and the trolley I got on ebay. Works well, similar to barn door track. Unistrut_Trolley_Brochure.pdf

Is it single core or multi core? Problem with aluminium wire is that aluminium gets metal fatigue rather quick, so it is no good where wires move all the time. In a fixed installation, like in a homes internal wiring, nothing moves, and it is just fine. Put this stuff in your car, from frame to door, and it will live very shortly, especially if it is single core. The more cores, the better it is at withstanding flexing.

Ok, ok, ok! I bought it! Lol It's 40 mins away and I'm getting him an oem oil filter for his 97 520h.(i live close to a dealer here in Erie Pa). His oil filter boot wasn't around the oil filter. This was a great trip to see this tractor, the seller is a WH fan like us and is looking to downsize a bit. I had a great time talking with him. Should be here next week as the seller is out of town until Tuesday. Cory

This has been discussed in depth before where bearing life expectancy charts at various loads and RPM have been posted. I have not been able to retrieve the post, but I believe the conclusion was at the low RPM of the axles in these tractors, the radial load was not a significant factor in the expected bearing life. As stated above, the real concerns when towing heavy loads should be braking and back flips. I can tell you from experience, when pulling a heavy load, it does not take much additional resistance (a small stone) to put the tractor on it's back. Maybe Garry or Richard can find you a link to the previous post on this subject. I have blown and plowed snow for many years with a fair amount of weight and have never seen a sign of bearing or axle failure.

My Ford LGT165 would shred 1 or 2 belts a year. I always attributed it to having the PTO pulley on the engine at the front so the belt had to go down then turn back to the deck while getting a twist then repeating on the way back up to the engine. I tried standard belts and 2 or 3 different Kevlar belt brands then finally bought a genuine Ford / New Holland belt and it was still on there 2 or 3 years later at least when I sold the tractor. Cost a bit more for the one belt but because it lasted so much longer it was actually much cheaper. Because of that, I now buy only Toro belts for my Wheel Horses.

If you add weight to your tires (wheel weights and loaded tires) it will add traction and stability. Any weight you add this way will have hardly any impact on your axles and bearings. This chart will give you an idea of the weight RV Antifreeze will give your tires. SIZE GALLONS Per Tire WEIGHT in POUNDS 16x6.50-8 2.0 21.4 18x7.00-8 3.0 32.1 18x8.50-8 3.4 36.4 18x9.50-8 4.0 42.8 23x8.50-12 5.5 58.9 23x10.50-12 6.8 72.8 6-12 3.6 38.5

I had a similar problem with my C-160 K341. I did a lot of carb adjustment without much response. Reset the points and that helped a little. Had a good idle and low throttle but at high throttle ran good one second and bogged the next constantly back and forth. Somewhere I read in here that the “Condenser” really helps spark at high rpm. So I changed the condenser and it was an instant fix. It’s worth a try on yours😀

Here ya go fellas feast on this.... 20 clams to have them mounted but since I couldn't find stems local they put in some choice ones figuring I might want to load them. Total bill with the show stems 30 + change .....flipped the guy 40 and told him to grease the guy that mounted them. NOT a speck of fresh paint off the rims!

When I was about 14 we went on spring break to Manning, SC to help a bachelor clean out his mess of a house, in exchange for flying lessons and a boat trip all the way to Charleston, through the enormous locks and all that were up river. He was a family family friend, his brother died in an airplane wreck drop dusting a few years before locally here in MI. I imagine it was a Cessna or the like, but Mike taught my brother and I how to take off, fly “the pattern” and land. My 16 year old brother wasn’t too fond or being in the front, so I was able to get a lot of seat time that week. By the end, I could take off and land, with Mike the pilot quiet and his hands and feet off the controls. There were some cross winds, so we learned what it meant to crab walk into a landing too. That was probably the most fun of it all! I’ve always had an interest in flying, but haven’t ever been in a cockpit since that week. Thanks for sharing, Lane!

Great September Day in Greencastle, Indiana today! Airport Appreciation Days in Greencastle, Indiana today. A 1920's Ford Tri-Motor plane is flying over the town with people taking rides for $75 each! Flew over the Wheel Horses I had out running the engines and preparing for winter several times already this am! Also had a film crew flying a drone over the DePauw University 1884 McKim Observatory located across from my front yard! Watch Video of the Ford Tri-Motor flying thaty you get to hear that famous motor sound! 015.MOV

I bought a hydraulic lift table right after I had spinal fusion surgery. Probably should have done it years before! It is great for loading/unloading from the tailgate of the truck or any lifting in the shop. Here it is lifting a 953 frame onto the rotisserie, also have an engine hoist.
