Wrapped up my Commando 8 project. I don't normally try to make them look nice...just work well. This one didn't come out to bad. (In spite of a bird pooping on the newly painted hood

Hi folks, i dont own this anymore, just recently sold. Fella i got it from said it was used to mow cemetaries. Sounds legit enough to me. Anyway figured id post some pictures for you to take a gander at, and if anyone else had ever seen one.

Scored this set of meats for a ridiculous price that I can't say lest you guys have twinkies. Have no idea what tractor they are going on but rest assured they will see the ground. Immediately started some rims to mount them on. Six ply skid steer in 23-8.50-12 and heavy.

Nice @pfrederi. Started trying to get the Eaton 1100 transaxle ready for the axle swap. First hub slid off with little persuasion, the second one...... not having it. Letting it sit out in the sun and heat up. Heat usually works right? Lord knows it’s hot enough outside. And yes, I know if I had fine a threaded shaft in the puller it would work better but you use what you got around here.

RUST! You want rust, I'll show you rust!

The key way in the hubs on my last build were worn quite bad. What I did was broach a new key way 90 degrees to the old one. I then drilled & tapped holes above the new key way for a set screw. The original set screw hole I used for a second set screw against the axle. This tractor is used to pull a mold board plow & so far I have had no trouble. If you don't have a broach set, a machine shop should be able to do this for you quite reasonably.

Most of mine are squirreled away, but I've sold a few over the years too. I told myself I was going to quit buying four or five tractors ago LOL

Seen this old Toro on CL the other day. Bad rear end $125. Seems pretty cool.

Today i drained out the new tranny oil i put in last week, leaky seal, seal repair stuff no worky..infact seemed to make it worse. Got new seals the other day. Prolly work on it tomarrow afternoon or sunday. I also got my replacement muffler guard in, and managed to intercept the box before my yellow lab secretly ran off with box. Rip it open. And loose all the parts. (Happened before). In the meantime, while beauty is sick, i still got the beast to putt around on!!

Last week I swapped out the old tired 5091 Trans in the 8 spd C-120 and needs a rebuild. Replaced it with a spare 103916 I obtained 6 years ago- . Gave it 3 runs and all smooth and positive. Yesterday, I noticed a tiny weep in the brake shaft oil seal, so I pulled and replaced all the seals All done and finished today ready for more test runs tomorrow . Cleaned up, painted and fitted the original gear cover plate. Also swapped rear wheels over to the Maxxis Kevlar Turfs on this, as it is going to a new home for mowing and towing duties.

I have a set of those weights on my GT-14 in addition to liquid filled tires and a weight box. Only way I get any tire spin is if the rear tires are off the ground!

Earlier this week my brother David Ralph and I got the 1964 Wheel Horse 1054 we use for snowplowing ready for winter duty. Here are some pics of the tractor . The rear drawbar hitch my dad made for three of our 1054 tractors, the the special leverage left for hauling logs and steel beams, and the WW-93 Wheel Horse Wheel Weights that work well year round!

If it’s not a high/low or belt problem, you might want to confirm that both axles are spinning the same speed as the hubs. A broken key way could slow a fellow down...
  18. 4 points
Well since it’s too hot outside to work on my horse, I did the next best thing. I painted one Trying to get used to this airbrush making a little bit of rust.

Old saying with the biker crowd I run with... Chrome don't git ya home.... Looks real respectable to me.

Age old and pretty common problem here. If it's not wallowed out to bad or the axle is not too bad you can go with a new woodruff and add a second setscrew. Another alternative is to broach a new keyway in the hub. Others have used JB weld to or welded and reground to fix the chipping. Talk about posting at the same time Dan!!

Jim, those look really close to what I replaced the front turfs on the Kioti with, they are really heavy because of FEL use, they don't "wrinkle" like LGT AG type tires also from experiences with the Kioti and eMax the R-4s are between full on R-1s and turfs for traction, good luck with them.

I wanted to share with you Wheel Horse fans my latest off road upgrades I’ve done to my C-81 while trying to not butcher the original tractor. I built a bumper with a winch for the front and a rear rack too. I also made a video about it. https://youtu.be/YT_SguWXuN4

Finally got to go back to Maryland and pick up my grandfathers C-175 wheel horse. He left it and few other tractors after he passed away 2 years ago. Its a 1983 he bought it new in 1984 remember the day it was dropped off. Was one of the first tractors I mowed with. My grandfather made wood blocks so I could hit the clutch pedal. I was 6 years old when he got it no way I could let anyone else have it. Mira been taken care off well but I want to freshen it up some. He replaced the deck a few years ago. I want to replace the drive belts and deck belts along with blades. And tune it up some and replace all fluids.

Definitely a rare occurance. It might be interesting to repeat the situation on a bench. Next time I have one up there, I'll try shorting the stator and see what happens... Of course it'll be someone else's motor! Just kidding. Thanks for the heads up.

That sucks! But on the bright side, the bottom inside part of your rim is more shiney and snow won't stick to it. Make sure those axles are smoooooth, especially check and file the key slot as it doesn't take much to ruin those seals. Been there done that.

Late to the show, as usual, but good for you @ryanmfairbank for everything you’re doing! I have been homeschooling my girls going on 3 years now, and will continue until they don’t like me anymore they are almost 9 and 11, and are quite active with the Wheelhorses as well.

Ha. Actually when i picked up my lawn ranger. If the motor had ended up being no good. Those thoughts were crossing my mind. Some day id like to make that happen.

Mike I'm thinking those hit and miss engines look really cool on little stands like you have them but they would look infinitely better mounted on the frame of a Wheelhorse....

Figure the maximum number you can store indoors, without your wife getting too upset. When you get more than than ideal number, sell your least favorites. Either that, or put an addition onto your storage area. Someday, I might be able to get a car into my garage. Jim

Picked this machine up today and a 48 in deck for a John Deere (( not for me )) and two signs, all for $100. 414 had the clutch took off. So I put one on and she fired right up and drives great and barley a whisper from the deck. So I'm gonna grease it up and change fluids and give it to my dad. But I mowed my lawn quick with it today.

This should be helpful. It's a posting from another thread here called long frames vs short frames From my notes gathered from folks who know! Long frames 45.5" Short frames 41.25" Mid Frames 43" 1972 to 1975 Wheel Horse 8 horse powered models had a wheel base of 43 inches "A short frame will have a wheel base of 41-1/4 inches and a long frame has a wheel base of 45-1/2 inches. The 1972 to 1975 Wheel Horse 8 horse powered models had a wheel base of 43 inches but the C-series and 300 series 8 hp models were long frames . Another way to tell is by horse power , any Wheel Horse model with 10 hp or more has a long frame starting from the 1966 model 1056 . In 1969 the last short frame model was built , the Workhorse 700 had a 7 hp horziontal shaft Tecumseh engine and three speed transmission . Any old round hood will be a short frame and all but one six speed model was a long frame (the 1967 model 867 was a short frame)" The first long framed Wheel Horse models came out in 1966. Here is a list of short frame Wheel Horses. 1961 - 701 1962 - 502, 552, 702, Lawn Ranger 1963 - 603, 633, 653, 753, Lawn Ranger 1964 - 604, 654, 704, 754, 854, 1045, Lawn Ranger 1965 - 605, 655, 855, 875, 1075, 1055, Lawn Ranger 1966 - 606, 656, 856, 876, Lawn Ranger 1967 - 607, 657, 857, 867, Lawn Ranger 1968 - Commando 6, Commando 8, '500' SPECIAL, Lawn Ranger 1969 - WORKHORSE 700 Other tractors like the 1974 and 1975 model B-80 were considered a mid frame

Welcome to Red Square. Your 1979 B-111 was made with two different transmissions. The model #92-11BF01 and the #92-11BP01. The model with the "F" came with a 6 speed Foote 4000-5 Transmission. The model with the "P" came with a 4 speed Peerless 669 Transmission. Both horses came with an 11 hsp Briggs engine with a vertical shaft. We do have schematics of the breakdown of both transmissions in the Manuals Section on the Main Page. Open and click on Maunals...tractors for the years which include 1979 and type 1979 B-111 in the search box. A number of threads and manuals will pop up. What 953 Nut wrote above will not work on either of those transmissions. Your Wheel Horse, because it is a vertical shaft engine, is really considered a riding lawn mower and not a garden tractor. With that in mind, it is going to be real hard to find and or fix your Foote transmission. I went through this with a gentleman in Michigan a few years ago, and we ended up finding a Peerless trans in Missouri to trade out the Foote trans. This is not a very popular Wheel Horse and you are going to have a hard time fixing or changing out that trans. I believe Foote is no longer making parts for the trans you have...thinking they were out of Ohio. Peerless is still around, but they may not have spare parts for their 669 trans...if you could find one. Your best bet is to dig into the manual and figure out what is wrong...put an ad in out Wanted Section and hope someone has one laying around. We do have a few vendors like.... A - Z Tractors that may have a lead for you. Keep us informed. Come back with any questions. Here ya go for a Manual....click on the link. Don't let all the tiny parts of that trans schematic scare you. check out the tractor manual first and make sure the stuff outside of the trans, like, drive belt, clutch, linkage, etc... is all OK. Check the easy stuff first...it may not be the trans. One other thing...Google "Foote Transmissions" A lot of stuff came up. I am not sure it will all help you, but it will point you in a direction to start with.

Fitted a new/second hand OE drive belt to my C-125. Came off a Raider 10 I have with a broken con rod. The one on was a standard V belt and has done stirling service for around 7yrs. I think it developed a tight spot as the clutch pedal started to vibrate back and forth with much rattling. The tensioner pulley was a bit loose as well. All ok now.

Lol I went for the deck for a friend and the guy just kept throwing stuff in. He was cleaning out and said whatever was left by Friday was scrap. So I said if that's the way he felt I would fill my truck with what I could use and give him a $100 and he said thats perfect cause scrap isn't up high and he didn't want to move anything heavy.
