Maybe kinda silly but I'm so thrilled I just had to share with my friends. I've been having serious vision problems for quite some time now. The first examination revealed some potential for more serious problems but as it turned out it was 'only' cataracts. I was still apprehensive since I have just about zero tolerance for anything near my eyes. Even eye drops are an issue. I was told that if my right eye was as bad as the left I would be legally blind. The surgery on my left eye was yesterday afternoon. The surgeon felt that only the normal sedation would be enough for me and I told him that he was the boss so go for it. I could only picture laying there and seeing sharp objects coming at me and my blood pressure was skyrocketing. Well, that's not the case at all. Sure, I was drugged up a bit but actually the view was interesting. Am I weird or what? No pain at all and no apprehension anymore. The results so far are amazing. Even with my right still off I can see better without my glasses and if I wear my glasses with the left lens removed it's like being reborn. The young lady that started the procedure with all the drops said that many folks who have had one eye done and are back for the other say that they can't wait to have it happen. So many people who have had the surgery told me it was really easy and nothing to be concerned about. That didn't help much but now I understand. Those of you that are candidates but fear it, add me to the list that it is absolutely nothing to worry about. Sure, as with any surgery, there are potential complications but they are rare especially if there are no other issues. You can also add me to the list of being anxious to get my right eye done in 2 weeks. Oh wait.....I do have one complaint. For 8 hours prior to the surgery all I could eat was jello. I have discovered that the potential for starvation as you are eating jello could be very real.

So I had a thread on this machine I picked up several months ago along with 2 others. I took it apart, cleaned and wet sanded everything then clear coated it using duplicolor crystal clear. I like how it came out. Vinsrj rebuilt the motor that was locked tight. You can check out his you tube video on the build. I rebuilt the tranny and love the end result. IMG_6210.MOV.crdownload

This thread will show a "worker" restoration on my C195 and my son's 416-8. Story on the 416-8 is that it was mine over 10 years ago until I sold it. My son wanted a restoration project and this one was offered by to me by the second owner since I sold it. He is a member here on Redsquare. The first pic is my son on it when he was about 2. All the pictures I have for now. All sheet metal was taken off and sand blasted. I just finished priming it.

He probably has what you want and if not he'll make it for you. They don't come any better (the decals and Terry)

Picked up my new l-165 lawn ranger yesterday. The guy I bought it from was going to do a restoration, but got the tractor apart and lost interest. When I picked it up, the motor was off, as well as all the cover pieces, fender and hood. Today I spent the day degreasing and cleaning the frame and other parts. I got everything back on, except the hood, so I can work on the engine. The engine had no exhaust, so I picked up a muffler and some pipe to use. I changed the engine and transmission oil, spark plug, and air filter. Right now the engine isn't getting spark or fuel, so tomorrow I will look at the magneto, and the carb. Hopefully tomorrow I will have the engine running, and when the drive belt I ordered arrives Friday, hopefully I can take it for a spin! I've attached photos (hopefully in order) of before and after I did some cleaning, and after putting some things back together. The seat is just sitting on there, I'm not sure if it the right seat or not. How are they supposed to attach?

C- 195 was hardest restoration I have ever done. But well worth it.

Since I don't see myself hauling any of these down next year here is mine... But..... I may have a special snow pusher/s to bring... lol

Thanks all you guys for all the support you have given me on this projectThere is still some stuff to still work out (belt guard, drive belt, hubs, etc...)on the tractor, but will get him rock'n and roll'n very soon.

That is indeed a very nice outcome. I commend you for going through all the trouble to save what is actually that tractors "personality" which took so many years to create. With all due respect to "restorers" (everything has its place) , and all the work they put into their machines,I am not a fan of a fully restored tractor. Next to each other they all basically look the same. One also is reluctant to do anything with them in fear of scratching them or worse. Now ,you have there is a machine that shows its age, has tons of character that only father time can give it, and you can let your kids or grand kids enjoy it without getting a heart attack. Given the option to purchase one fully restored as opposed to that one, for the same amount of money my choice is clear. WELL DONE SIR.

Today the doc and I discussed where I wanted my right eye to be. I opted for the same as the left. That will give me the distance vision and readers.

So... I've been doing some numbers crunching... it looks like this engine is good for 133 horsepower and 169 lb. ft. of torque. My 1449 pound buggy with a 165 horsepower Subaru EJ25 is absolutely wild. I really can't imagine how this is going to turn out! I guess, I hope and pray that you never find any traction... otherwise ???? for anyone interested in the build on the buggy, here's a link... https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=662104

I dunno Bob I thought your sight was pretty good after spying and picking up that nice round hood at the show! I figured that's why you were so antsy at the show as you were worried about the surgery thing. Understandable... My wife Cindy being a surg. tech. says its quite a common procedure and they do dozens of them a day with no problems. I hear your phobia about sharp objects nears one's eyes tho. Sounds like you had a good doc tho and use eye drops if they tell you to!

Welcome to Redsqure I also have a C160 and I like it the most of all my tractors. Here is a diagram I doctored to help me with mine. This is a basic wiring diagram. The colors may be different from yours but it makes it a lot easer to trace a problem.

This week I've had a chance to finish up the foot rests, patch the hole in the hood around the gas tank filler neck and rework the Tecky gas tank bracket to fit the Kohler and I've drilled the seat pan so I can either bolt the seat directly to it or use the flip up bracket with the seat springs.

I pulled the case apart and it looks like I can get away with just replacing seals and gaskets and cleaning everything up. I took some pictures of my progress. thanks again for all the info

Under the big hex is and eccentric, that eccentric and cam plate are most likely worn after 30 years, but what I normally do is loosen the set screw/bolt that holds the big hex the move the shifter all the way forward and then slowly turn the big hex to make sure it fully seats in the cam plate then tighten it down, then move shifter to reverse to see if eccentric is fully seated in cam plate, if not now's the time to start adjusting the linkages from the shifter to the cam plate until you get full range of motion through the eccentric and cam plate and fast forward speed, Jeff.

Dave, here is how I did my 5xi. Jack up the tractor so both wheels are off the ground. With the selector in neutral, start the tractor and let it warm up. Once warm, there should be no movement of the wheels, either forward or backward. Loosen the hex bolt that goes thru the bigger hex cam. Turn the cam one way or another until the wheels stop moving. Tighten down the hex bolt. What you are doing is adjusting neutral creep. When neutral creep is zero, the forward and reverse speed should be at factory spec. My 5xi would only do 5-5.5 in forward. After I set neutral creep, it was back to 7.5, factory spec. How do I know? I went for a ride on the tractor, holding with my bicycle garmin in my hand.

good going on getting that done bob, had mine done about 4 years ago, those double yellow lines on the road were getting very scary. recently had the follow up with laser removal of the lens sack, they might or not have to be done, dr will keep you informed of that. most important part of keeping after yourself is the positive mindset to correct what comes up, that way you will correct issues. much better than old school hard ass , toughing it out, and collecting injuries like a brag point. todays operations are relatively simple, dramatically improved from just a few years ago. also did my knees 3 years ago, detailed my surgeon check, turned out great, no fear factor , that is what people terrorize themselves about. Winston Churchill said " when you get to hell, keep going ", it works , pete

Just be watchful for inflammation to show up weeks/months after surgery, my dad (now 81) with diabetes had his cataracts removed and the new synthetic lenses installed over a year ago, but now it seems every 3 months or so he gets a really bad inflammation in both eyes (really red and lower lids hanging low) then a regime of eye drops and antibiotics just to go through it again and again and they still don't know what is causing it, Jeff.

Thanks Ed. I'd never wish for things to get worse but with it being inevitable with time ya kinda have to wonder. Thanks Richie. I don't think I realized just how bad my vision had become. I'm sure it was a dumb idea to drive to the big show but I made it safely so all's well. I wish you all the best too and hopefully your retirement and relocation goes as planned. It was great seeing you again and I know everyone had a great time but it seemed like you were a notch above that. I loved it and an glad you finally could make it and enjoy the show so much.

Proud of Caleb! He has been serious about working on Comanche since we got him home. “Uncle Jim” gave Caleb a new key switch for it since the old one had a broken return spring. Thank you very much @WHX20! Here’s the way it looked at Jim’s with the cultivator that Caleb got from @AMC RULES . At the show Caleb found a tractor style Nelson muffler and purchased it. He couldn’t wait to install it. It was relatively easy to get the old muffler off but nearly impossible to get the short nipple out of the block. I did a search on here and there was a helpful post from our buddy @rmaynard in which he said to cut it down, collapse the remainder with a cold chisel and remove. It worked great! Thanks Bob. Then Caleb took one of my brass gun cleaning brushes and scoured out the threads real well. Once he felt that it was good and clean... He did a test fit on the new pipe. All looked good and so we ran it into the head. Spent a little time installing the new key switch! Then positioned the new muffler and Caleb hooked up the battery and took it for a spin! Amazing what a muffler and a set of AG’s will do! Then Caleb started working on a spare set of 8” rims, sanding and cleaning and finally painting them. We will have the old Goodyear’s that are on the tractor now, switched to those rims once we have done the proper aging to match the front as closely as possible for Patina. Where’s my man @Shynon? He loves patina, I can’t wait for him to see this ole dude! It was a good day of shop time with my kiddos.

I picked up a nice mower deck with the mule drive and belts for my 520-H from WHX20 Jim. Easy mount in 10 minutes and ready to roll. Now I have three really nice WH mowing workers to play with. ... And a Wheel Horse racing banner from Vinylguy Terry... Awesome!

I went to the Big Show with a '69 Charger 12 and three 48" decks, came home with another 953, tub cart, three Kohler twin cylinder engines, three 3 speed transmissions (for parts) a HD-42 snow blade, a LMR-30 front mount reel mower some tires, lots of cool stuff from @Vinylguy a couple of@BOB ELLISON seats for the 953s and a fist full of the collector cards Terry made up for us. The best thing I brought home was some great memories and a strong desire to attend in 2019!

I've managed to get a little more done this week. I had to shorten and bend the trans hi/lo shift lever to get it where I wanted it, I also added a brace to stiffen it some then cut a slot for it in the tunnel cover. There was some play in the frame where the drive belt idler pulley shaft goes thru it so I reamed the holes out and added bushings to fix that. Then I cut a pair of foot rests from a B series tractor down to fit this Ranger and added a couple of braces to the frame to support them. I've still got a little tweaking to do to them but I'm pretty happy with how they fit. I decided to use a different steering wheel so I need to get the seat mounted and figure out what height I want the steering wheel to be. In the pic it's mounted to the original Ranger steering shaft and I think it might be too low.
