    Well, I finally got rid of Christine! It's 5 years and 2 months too late, but it's finally gone! It feels like a new chapter in my life, and helps put at least one of the constant reminders of that day behind me. In it's place, is a truck that I WON'T have to work on. Introducing my 2018 Ram 3500 Limited. I got this truck fully decked out with the 6.7L Cummins Diesel and Aisin transmission. Has the 5th Wheel towing package (just ordered the new hitch), sunroof... well everything! This truck is amazingly beautiful, but I think that I deserve this! I'll post more pictures later, they're on my phone and I'm too exhausted t move them at the moment.

    I have a few basic electrical system diagrams that are helpful in understanding how the wiring system works. They are not specific to any particular tractor and do not include safety switches. All use the 5 post ignition switches 103-991 for Magneto and 103-990 for Battery Ignition. I failed to include fuses in the Starter Generator drawing, this is an over-site and I would encourage fuses be used as shown in the other two drawings. Hope this is helpful. Magneto Ignition system with electric start and solenoid. Battery powered ignition system with points, condenser, solenoid and electric start. Battery powered ignition with solenoid, points, condenser, Starter Generator and a mechanical voltage regulator. We have uncovered a shortcoming in the factory wiring diagrams for S/G battery ignition systems with a four terminal voltage regulator. The wire from the regulator "Gen" terminal to the S/G "A" terminal was omitted. This drawing should clear that up.

    As stated in another section my honey went and bought herself a 657 a few days ago. Sunday afternoon to be exact. Runs and drives quite well and had a very serious and non negotiable issue. It's Oliver green with Ford gray wheels. Other than that the work should be minimal standard stuff. Well of course she started tearing right into the disassembling of the lucky little tractor. We started to show the daily work being done to it and then realized we should really start a new thread in the proper location. So here's a few before pics as a reminder. Here's the end of Sunday results. And a pic from Monday nights work. After this was taken she found some spray on paint stripper and emptied the can on it. We left it on for 24 hours or so. And found red paint!!

    sold i have a kohler k91t specs 31936c i dont need this little k91 so ill bring it to the show. Some one should be able to put it on a suburban or a 401. i dont think ill ever own one so no need to keep it. i would clean and paint it like all my engines but i dont have time or the need to fix it up. it starts first pull and idles perfectly. no smoke. $250.00 here's a little video.     My entire family is totally onboard with this one! So this truck is primarily for towing our 5th wheel, which is about 13K lbs. I got the Mega cab because the heated rear seats recline and there is way more room for longer trips. It doesn't seem any longer than my old F250. Unfortunately the Mega doesn't have the under floor storage, just behind the rear seat is something, but nothing like the crew cab floor bins. I would have liked those. I was looking for a good forum, thank you!

    Almost like my Big Horn and love your color Coach. Not sure if I like the mega cab, gotta be like driving a school bus??? These trucks sure do haul the mail when it comes to going to tractor shows! You are going to love the tow/haul mode and engine braking. Gobs of power from that turbo. Right now I am only averaging 19-21 mpg empty, 14+- with a tandem load of tractors, but with less than 4K on the clock they say it will shoot up to around 26 once broken in at 20k. Heard tell the best way to break the Cummings in is under loads. How about those flip downs in the rear and under floor storage. I have since put a cap on and don't have the fifth wheel package but could always be added. Certainly is a learning curve on how to pilot these beasts with all the gadgets & widgets. Almost too many as they tend to distract one's eyes from the road. Best bet is learning everything parked in the driveway...with the missus or kids in the passenger seat so they can run the electronics while the operator operates. Sometimes its does seem to take a co-pilot! Maybe even take a little nap in it while your there! With the backup camera you will be able to drop the hitch right on the ball without ever getting out or having a spotter.     this may seem obvious, but the easiest way to get the deck latched is: 1. Kneel on the ground on the left side of the tractor 2. With your left hand, hold item 1 in the approximate position so that the fork goes where it is supposed to go. 3. Push up on the lift lever to pull the deck up and the lift lever will latch in the up position and the deck will be held there. 4. Pull the latching dogs (the part of the hitch that moves) toward the rear of the tractor to hold item 1 into place. The latching dogs have to be grabbing item 3 in Garry's pix. If you have done all this stuff, the small spring in the tach a matic may have rusted away. In my experience, it is usually operator error that causes the deck to fall off. Don't ask how I know this.

    Hey folks - first timer and I love my new-to-me Wheel Horse. I just picked up a late 80s 310-8 with 42" deck and 17cu.ft. dump cart. It is in okay shape, and after performing 20 years worth of preventative maintenance last weekend it purrs like a kitten and is getting smoother. Previously, I had a 1984 Deutz Allis 917H 48" that was just too big and heavy to use at my house; I used it at my grandmas to mow her 2 acre lot. After grandma passed away, I didn't have much use for it. The brakes were lousy, it leaked from everywhere and was just plain worn out so I gave it away. I took a terrifying trip down my back slope on that tractor and that is when I learned a few things - those things aren't built for steep hills, hydro+open rear axle+one pedal=no brakes, they can roll over three times (without deck) land on their wheels, stay running and drive right back up the hill. I heat my house almost entirely with firewood for the past eight seasons. The hobby of getting the wood (usually helping neighbors cut down dead trees) has made me a lot of friends and I truly enjoy doing it. I really enjoy the challenge of all of it, and I keep telling my children that it builds their character. Every year the Misses allows me to buy a few items to help make the job easier. I bought this tractor mostly to help in all ways of moving logs out of other peoples back yards to the truck/trailer and then into my backyard for processing. It has already done great with a 1ft diameter x 50ft tall maple from my neighbors house. In the past I have used a lot of winching equipment to get the logs where I need them, but this is often very time consuming and impractical to use anywhere but my own two acre hillside. Sometimes in the course of this work, I run into some challenging terrain and that is where I'm looking for advice to do a few mods to make this beast more capable. I also want to live and not die from a tractor accident like most normal people. Since I don't have a lot of experience with using a tractor for this purpose, I thought I would ask for y'all's help. For the purists - I don't intend to make any permanent mods. Feel free to vote for or against any of these and add your own to the list if you'd like. I don't intend on spending much on this tractor until it passes a shakedown period - the engine oil was low and dirty and the trans was low and a pretty milkshake brown. Improvements felt immediately after changing both. Mods: 1. Tire chains - should be a massive improvement over the plain turf tires. Already ordered a set. 2. Ag tires - never felt an improvement on the deutz when I switched, are they worth it? I only used that thing on grass though - so my experience may not matter. 3. Front weights - Why would I need them? Because trailer? 4. wheel weights or filling the tires or both For safety concerns and tips: 1. Am I safer without the deck pulling logs or will the extra weight be a benefit? 2. Should I keep the deck on for navigating grassy hills 3. Is my thinking wrong and it is potentially safer to make the tractor lighter rather than heavier Maintenance help: Sometimes the trans has a little trouble getting into gear. I am always at a full stop when shifting, but I have to carefully do the "gentle wiggle" to get it into gear sometimes. I experience no grinding, but I've noticed that if I let my foot off the clutch a little helps it slip into gear. Can an adjustment be made or is this SOP? Seems more affected when not on flat ground. Thanks for all your help and I look forward to our discussion.

    As noted in longer What I’ve done to tractor thread, my Restomod tractor aka Elijah took a pounding this past weekend while en route to CT meet and greet. Bent the weak metal cross piece at front of frame and scuffed the paint. I’ve been wanting to weld in a stronger front piece and have been procrastinating as removing that GT14 nose/grille is a royal pita. So necessity has driven me to address my procrastination. Got it torn down and new piece welded in place and painted. Now I need to sand the nose and repaint/reassemble.

    Well, there are plenty of places with paint chips etc on the rest of Elijah but the nose looks pristine again and I should have flipped the fronts a long time ago.

    This seems to be a characteristic of the with square cut gears, nothing unusual. Tire chains on liquid filled tires with wheel weights will make a BIG improvement in traction and front weight will improve steering on slick surfaces. I would remove the mower deck, it can snag on roots etc.. Be mindful of the fact that the brakes stop the transmission, not the wheels. When descending a steep grade the tire with the least traction will stop turning first. Just go very slowly in low range. The only trailer safety tip i can offer is to make two safe trips rather than putting too much weight in one trailer load.

    @ebinmaine If you keep on bringing tractors home you will need a new tractor shed. I don't think the roof on the shed in the picture will hold up to Maine snow .

    What did I do? Things that this was not meant for but it was fun to put on a show for the crowd. There was a GT pull at a local show that I was at. No serious competition, just a bunch of us having fun. After some heckling from friends I hooked my Rat Rod up for a wheelie show. No long distance pull to brag about but it was still fun.

    I talked to the seller again tonight and claims the 269h mowing deck "might" fit the 520xi. I thought the 520xi had a deck. Little disappointed there. Still, the trip is planned for 2 weeks from now.

    I use a spring-loaded clamp to hold the fork in an up-right position so that when I pull the deck up it will latch properly. Be sure then that the latches on the hitch plate are closed and secured with spring clips on both sides.

    Thanks, Bob. The trans is off a 2003 314-8 with less than 600hr I'm assuming the seal are original, I didn't change the seal when I installed it on the 312.

    I'm not an expert, but heavier would make sense to me..with the gearing and 10 hp, you will run out of traction before you run out of power pulling a heavy load...and by the way......

    there's value in it I see them online. a few years back I was cleaning up and for my amusement I stuck my tire pile on ebay, about a dozen all junk odd size tires off walk behinds and other pre 1965 tractors, these in my mind were useless, much to my surprise I got over a hundred for them, the individual bought them does restoration drove a fair distance to pick them up, he did static restorations where these tires were foam filled and whatever just to make them look nice.

    Unfortunately I did not get as much time as I had liked behind the camera over the weekend. There were a lot of GT's there that I would have liked to capture on film. I did take some shots of yesterdays plowing fun. Josh plowing with Ghost Rider.Zach is following close hind so he can inspect Dad's work. Josh was nice & went back for the camera that I had left behind in the field. As long as he was there He got a shot of our work. Today the club brought in an eliminator for the garden tractors to play with. This was not a formal pull, just a bunch of us having fun. @WHX19 was the first one to hook up. I hooked my Raider12 up for a pass. After I was done pulling I passed my draw bar hitch on to @Rp.wh so that he could try giving the eliminator a tug with his Raider12. Between these 3 I believe that Ryan won the bragging rights. This Economy was almost unstoppable. A couple more shots of some of some cool gt pullers. I hooked up my Rat Rod just for laughs also.

    Changing the engine on the bike to a S&G K181 instead of the M8. It's something that's been on the to do list for a long while because it looks more "period correct". I like the curves of it instead of the boxie look of the M8. Having a difficult time fitting a gas tank without having a solid front hood to make a gas tank to replace the mimicked slotted one. Not sure why I need to add the pressure of getting it done before the show but... Somehow scrambling around like crazy with a short deadline just seems natural. Been doing it every year for about 9 years, so here we go again.

    Sweet tractors. Love the speedex with the attachments. I redid a speedex S18 that I found in my in-law's corn crib but I don't have any attachments for it other that a mower deck. I'd love to find a plow and some wheel weights. Mike
