Actually, the fishing was really good. Lots of walleye, bass, bluegill, and pike. Kept some but we’re pretty selective with what we harvest. The smallmouth bass fishing is unreal. Dad kept a journal so I can confirm what we actually boated over the 6 days I was there, but I’d guess I caught and released at least 50 bass over 15” plus lots of smaller ones. Biggest this year was 19.5”. In years past we’ve boated 21-inchers. I like to fish topwater, so most of mine were on poppers. Also used a classic rapala minnow but had to remove one of the trebles to make dealing with the pike easier. We like to keep fish too. Even bass. Minnesota limit is 6 per angler (total possession, not per day as the morons in the cabin next to us insisted 😡) and we try to keep 14” fish. That’s actually a bit of a challenge when you set a tight tolerance. I’d guess the smb in the pic below is a 14”. Not a Lunker. I didn’t take many fish pictures for some reason. Walleye were still shallow. Found them in wood. We aim for 15” fish there and release those that are bigger and smaller. I think you’re limited to one over 20”, but we don’t usually keep that big. Bluegill were hot until the weather changed. Lots of 8”-9” fish. In years past we’ve lucked into fish to 12”. Couldnt find crappie this year. And I burned a day trying for lake trout with no luck. But for a southern Illinois fisherman it was worth the effort. Spring fishing is easy. It gets tougher as the summer progresses. Another favorite minnesota catch is pictured below. Wish we had old Dutch chips down here...Jason knows what I’m talking about! Steve

I spent last week on a fishing trip in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness of northern Minnesota. The BWCAW is a huge wilderness area along the Ontario border about two hours north of Duluth, MN. Except for a few designated lakes with a 25 hp motor limit, the area -and the adjacent Quetico Provincial Park - is off limits to engines or motors of any kind. Access is limited by a permitting system and it’s completely realistic to spend several days in a row fishing and not see another human being. Truly one of North America’s treasures. Anyway, my family has been making annual trips up there since 1976. I’ve been going since I was a little kid, so over 30 years. Like anywhere else in this part of the world the weather can change really fast. Ice went off off the lake in the pictures you see below on May 11th. I took these pictures Tuesday after they had a couple weeks of weather in the 80’s. Surface water temperature was about 74 degrees. That’s a FAST warmup and spawning season for the various fish is all messed up. Tuesday evening a storm rolled in. I thought these pictures were awesome and wanted to share. First picture was taken at 7:46 pm. Water was flat calm but the storm was coming and the clouds were the same color as the lake. Wall cloud picture at 7:47. Notice the limp flags. Next wall cloud picture at 7:49. Lake still calm but the flags were fluttering. At 7:50 the dust was blowing and dad was holding on to his hat. 7:51 the Adirondack chairs blew off the dock into the lake. 7:53 the lake was boiling. And the temperature has plummeted at least 30 degrees F. Amazing. Steve

Hey all, I’m a newbie here. Just wanted to share that when I brought home my 86 310-8 my 4-year old also caught the Wheel Horse fever. He had a JD electric ride-on and asked me to make it a Wheel Horse. How could I resist that request. So some cans of IH red, a few decals, and some fun time together in the garage he has a Wheel Horse “like daddy’s”. It doesn’t look like a 310 but he loves it just the same!

I decided to go ahead and open up a space under the deck, began the retaining wall and should finish up with gravel. The amount of room for parking is perfect for the 18 auto.......These blocks do a number on one's biceps after a couple of days! Lol.

You can view the wiring diagram here. Click on the picture below and again on the next page. If you want to print it out download the file. Hard to test a charging system if a battery is low on charge or defective but worth a try. Not everyone has extra batteries. Try to charge it first. Hope you have a voltmeter. Turn the ignition key to the RUN position with the engine not running. Test the voltage across the battery posts and make a note of it. Now move the red lead to the DC+ terminal on the regulator. You should have the same voltage. If not follow the orange wire back to the ignition switch and test for the same voltage there. The ignition switch in the Run position connects the orange wire and regulator output to the battery. Two reasons this is required. The voltage regulator must see battery voltage before it can regulate the charge current. And this is the path the current takes to recharge the battery. Dirty, loose or corroded wire connections can affect the current flow as well as a ignition switch with internal burnt switch contacts. Let us know what you find for voltage readings. Garry

Sweet photos Steve! The BWCA is truly a Minnesota treasure! We had one of those storms run through down here just the week before! This was Fri night of Memorial Day weekend.

One of these years I am going to coerce @Achto into doing a trip like that if we can break away from tractors long enough! Every other year my wife and I make the trip to Mille Lacs, MN for some smallies & wallies. Small mouth can be a blast on lite or even ultra lite tackle. I gotta call @Vinylguy on this thread as I know he loves to fish. As for the chips Steve you can't go in a filling station around here and not find them! You get the hankering lemme know I'll set you up!

I just noticed that I passed the 11,000 post mark. I don't usually hold much stock in post count, but I am also pushing 10 years on Red Square. The ten year thing makes me proud to be a part of this great family on this excellent site. I just want to thank you all for making me feel so welcome and a big part of this community. When I think back on things, the "Steve on a Stick" at last years show was the height of all this site has to offer for me. All you guys made me feel like I was there. That was very special.to me. We all do so many special things on this site...the top one is all the selfless help everyone gives so freely, and the other one is how we treat people like how we all want to be treated. I just wanted to say Thank You for letting me be a part of it.

Hello, I began using the carry all and the three point linkage won't go quite low enough to pick up a pallet. I believe the holes for the pins need to be raised a couple of inches....... Oldman

Little more done today. Finished the seat adjuster bracket and bolted it down. Also made a plate for the front of my belt guard. Had to cut of the front nose of the mounting tab to clear the block. Plug welded the plate to the front of the guard and notched it to slide under the battery tray where it will be held down. Came out ok.

Well I went to get a Speedex and came home with a lot more LOL. I got a all original radio that works, three headlight covers brand new, two 654 hoods, a light kit and lights work, a raider 12 8 speed for my dad with 2 deck and a snowblower and parts snowblower. Also a 1955 2hp Lauson, Swisher ride king with 6hp tecumseh and the 1966 speedex s18 with original wheel weights/snow plow/ cultivator and molboard plow. I will get some more pics up when I get everything in order and put them in there proper topic areas. 20180603_160931.3gp

Welded up the seat adjuster plate, installed the seat base for a test fit. Still have to notch the adjuster plate for the trans dipstick. Hope to get me a seat this week. Also test fit the side cover. The lower guide is a little too long and is bent a little. Now I can put a little more downward bend in it where it sits below the pulley. It rubs the belt just a hair. Also have to make a mounting tab for the front that will slide under the battery tray. Had to cut the front tab off because my “replacement” engine doesn’t have the outer ring of mounting holes that a factory engine does. No big deal. Got it already figured out and will make it tomorrow.

I'll have enough in materials to make a total of 5 single cyl Kohler spark plug wires. I won't make them in advance in case I need the terminals for a different application. Takes like 5 min to make one so If you need any $6.00ea.

Just to add to Garry's info: Be sure the RECTIFIER is grounded properly. The 2 mounting bolts develop corrosion between the rectifier body and the hoodstand mount points. Take it off and thoroughly clean the ground and the two bolts.

I think you are correct in thinking the woodruff key is turning up and preventing the hub from sliding off. Do not try to remove the hub by pounding on the inside of the hub. The axle is only held in the transmission by a C clip and it could easily be broken by pounding on the hub. Use a puller to push the hub off from the outside end of the axle.

Ok, I've been thinking about my rat rod and B80. I really hate to part with either one, but I'm all out of horse stalls! I had originally listed the rat rod as a roller with no engine. I'll sell it one of two ways: -Rat Rod - Sold I'd take $350 for the B80 without the mid-grader (does include nice sleeve hitch) Might possibly sell my 857 if paid for in advance $500 firm (my I don't want to sell it price, but I'm out of room) - smokes just a little on start up for about 45sec or so, will come with different seat - not the seat and springs shown here.

I just wished that you had warned be about Skonky ( @squonk ) your other brother. Great knowing you. I thought a Hooby -Dooby was a wooden shoe.

The swisher are great to mow with and very simple engineering, but ONLY like flat and dry grass or you will be spinning that front tire like crazy! This is one I redone last winter.

Nice tractors!! Always liked the Speedex tractors. Been kinda looking for one of those Swishers also, I think one of those would work out well on my lawn. Enjoy your new toys.

Good ole Mcmaster Carr can probably fix you up. If not there are several metal selling sites, one I like is Speedy metals. https://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-brass-alloy-rods/=1d5hrg5 http://www.speedymetals.com/ I have long made my own bushings on my lathe. Over the yrs I had accumulated a pretty good supply of misc scrap brass round stock, but a while back when prices went crazy I quit buying and lately I've had to really scratch to find a suitable piece.

Exactly one of the three things the D will get as accessories for this summer's projects if I can get some other tasks out of the way first. The biggest project needed first is a wrecker attachment similar to modern "****** and go" designs used by repossession outfits. #3 will be a toolbar for ripper teeth and other things. Sarge

I don't have any photos, but when my brother hydrolocked his Ford ranger while offroading, the towtruck only dropped it off in our street, so we used our 400 with my brother standing on the front axle (for weight) to tow it up our driveway to it's proper resting position.

Thank you for being a part of it! Saw on another forum where they use the word "KARMA" instead of the little "+" under your avatar for the number of likes and positive responses to your posts. So the way I look at, you are also 11,617 on the plus side of Karma.
