Took the tractor and new used sheet metal to work today. Had some time so I started taking parts off. The fender is real bad. Years of letting grass build up and time in the rain have rotted it out. Had to grind a few bolts here and there. The pto side running board was replaced with a piece of 3/16" diamond plate with tubes welded on under neath to slide over the mounting rods. Done quite well too. The hydro filter mount is broken from frame (new one ordered). It's gunked up good but aside from the sheet metal it's solid. Drained trans today too.

Spring Cleaning Dumped a few buckets and took some pics. Most of this will be going on York CL. If you see anything of interest, send a PM with an offer....I could bring it to the Show. I'll dump more buckets tomorrow. S/G belt guard in pic 5 is sold. Sleeve hitch is sold. Added a few more items.

So this weekend my cuz took some of the herd to a pole barn he can use in exchange for grounds maintenance . He went to the barn loaded the C120/160 frackinhorse then come by my barn grabbed the Commando8 . He dropped off the C120 at his dads and then took the Commando8 to or mechanic friend. My cousin and friend went back over to the barn to grab something and when he opened the door this was in there ? Now mind you he was only gone for a half hour . Well I’ll after a while we figured it out . The high school football team was doing a scrap drive and the dumpsters were located behind the old middle school where the barn is also located across the parking lot. The coach had seen my cousin with the trailer loading and moving tractors around. Five minutes after he left a guy showed up with this for the scrap drive. Told them it just quit running last year and wasn’t going to mess with it. So after the guy left the coach rolled it across the parking lot and put it in the barn . When the coach was telling my cousin this he said just make a small donation to the team . My cousin responded right back and said you know all that scrap your getting at my cousins most of it was from my jobs . Four trucks worth. Cleaned up my yard ! So in the end we all won . Is your addiction bad when the whole town knows you collect and you have people just drop you off tractors or call you about a tractor they have . Two weeks ago we picked up a 520H for under $200 . The guy called out of the blue and said please come get it . I’ll get pictures of it after it gets done doing yard cleanup chores at my cousins FIL house. Yes it’s a running mowing no smoking tractor too .

I made offer. Not heard back yet. Front of hood is in bad shape due to an accident.

SMS-425 and appears complete except the travel arm which I have if you need one. Will fit most early models i.e.701, 857, etc... Some have modified them to work on a 520-H as well as others. Here is one of mine on the 701.

Well I am on doxy now and my ankle has gotten better to the point where I can walk with a limp. Thank god! I will be missing the centre hall show up here this weekend, but I should definitely still be coming to the big show. Thanks for all the info/support guys!

You're probably right but maybe I'll get lucky. I had another issue with the filler. The tank straps aren't original and a bunch thicker lowering the filler even further. I couldn't find an extended filler so I bought a new tank off Ebay and removed the neck. Much to my amazement it fit and soldered up perfectly on top of the original neck.

Yes they are known to rust if not kept up with... My 02' is still rust free so far.

Not original but due to hood damage I decided to enlarge the filler hole and use one on my Suburban. I love how it turned out.

Recently picked this handy little workhorse up.

Looking good Aldon. I'm in the same club as you and @wallfish. My son tells me I'm a grinder / sometime welder.lol
  13. 3 points
Same happens to me. For some reason welding is NOT like riding a bike. It's nice once you finally do get in that groove so the grinder isn't needed to clean'em up.

You can use sheet metal from any 300 or 400 series if yours prove too challenging.

There were a few tractors in there 418 hydro (functional without any attachment) for 500 euro's. A c121,c81,c145 all in a state of "needs help". Thank you to everyone on here being very helpful and I'm glad to see alot of michigan folk on here. I am originally a yooper from sault mi. And I have seen alot of wheel horses on facebook for sale. I will be getting one and I will be going all out resto on it. I think the old tractors have a look about them that we have yet to see come back, that rugged slender hood the simple but solid frame. Gotta love how they did things back than sad to see it changed to plastic and alluminum.

I would get some wheel weights for sure. I have weights and a weight bracket due to lots of hills where I mow. I bet if you wet sand with 1000 grit and then buff it will darken up.

Hello All ! I came across this one. It has a wheel horse sticker and the a serial number A-40391. Does anyone have any additional information ? Its on a local auction and closing soon... ill just go for it i think hihi. Main thing would be.....to what will it fit ? and does it look like it has parts missing ? Thank you in advance !

Hello, I purchased a 1995 520-H at an estate auction last weekend that only had 41 hours total on the machine, pretty much new old stock.. I changed oil, cleaned out gas tank and Carb.. Am I missing anything IMPORTANT Prior to firing up tractor for the 1st time since 1995? Thanks in advance

Some of the side plates are aluminum and over torque WILL crack them.

Only and parts. The only way to pull a hub

@stevasaurus That is the torque specs for the bolts that hold the Squonk 's head on his neck.

Make sure no rodents have made nests anywhere under engine tins, air cleaner, in the tunnel etc. Also make sure fuel lines, hydraulic lines and wiring has not been chewed through or just cracked with age. I would likely replace all fuel lines and filter just because of the age.

    Not a bad value for the condition it appears to be in. 290 EUR = 339.032 USD ( 2018-05-13 20:01 UTC) 32 EUR = 37.4140 USD https://www.xe.com/

Wow that’s actually in good condition. Just needs some hood work and possibly some floor mats and that look old like it will be a great little worker. -Tractorboy

First thing I would do is put a tachometer on the engine and find how fast it is running. Then see what rpm the spindles are turning with the engine at operating speed. That way you can calculate how far off the 19,200 maximum feet per minute the blade tips are travelling. Garry

    Agreed. Cute little things.

No idea, but I'd sure go for it. I've had a sickle and tiller on my wanted list for quite a while.

Amazon might also have the filters you need. Or might bring up some quick look no’s or places to buy it. As I said before your local lawn mower repair shop may have some goodies or part(s) for you. Not sure what part of Georgia your in but on Craigslist northwest Georgia there is a 48 inch grader blade for 250 bucks best offer. You might want to snag this as this is the time to buy snow stuff as people are trying to make room for their grass cutting stuff and removing their snow stuff.

You might consider the Kenda K502 Terra Trac tire in place of an ag style. I had these on my 518xi and they were better than an ag for not tearing up the ground, yet had more traction than a turf.

Napa 1410 or Wix 51410 on the hydro filter Spook, orginal Toro is a 79-5270.

Terry I might have some help today to get this done !

Don't know about getting them on line but many of us prefer the NAPA gold or WIX filters. I got more than one tractor with those pinkish hood/fenders, may try the wet sand, let us know what works for you.

Sorry John...Tony already laid claim to it for his Craftsman GT. But I know he has a couple that fit the Craftsman LT series...I'm sure he would hook you up with delivery to the WH show. Its a Craftsman part so that deal will have to take place in the parking lot !!

It just hit me. I love the restorations back to as close to original as possible but I don't really go that route as you can see on my 400. I'd prefer the cast 61 footrests over the 60 style. If someone is looking for the 60 style and has a pair of the 61 style I'm game to swap them out.

I have an 09 Dakota extended cab V6 automatic that tows like a champ. It didn't have the tow package but I added helper springs, a transmission cooler and a Valley 2" hitch. Last year I returned from the Big Show with a 418-A in the bed and two 953s on the trailer along with lots of other stuff. I have three major mountains to cross in route and maintained moderate speeds (35 to 40) to keep the transmission from to low but was very pleased with the performance. This is my third Dakota and fifth Dodge.

Mike Looks like you had a good time doing this. It is always fun tearing things apart.

Got home and it just finished raining but I couldn't stand it, I just had to mow. Dang, that power steering is sweet. Still liking the smart turn too. Those Titan turf tires give up real easy in wet grass. Yard has slight incline which we call a hill down here in Savannah, GA. Might be thinking of putting some lugs on. Saturday is maintenance day. Changing all fluids and filters and cleaning the power steering filter. Got my buffer, compound and can of liquid glass ready to got to work too. The rear fender deck is really faded. Looks more pinkish red. Maybe I'll just put a breast cancer awareness sticker on and just go with it. Anycommendation for an online source for filters? I'm long time believer in Mobil1 also. BTW Dennis, you would have been proud. While talking with the guy I stood there with my arms crossed while continuously rubbing my chin saying, "I just don't know". Between that and trading fishing stories with him, I saved some money.

Very nice looking xi. I've bought 3xi's over the last couple years. I always remove the deck and clean and inspect and pull the engine covers off and wash down the cooling fins. It can be a bit intimidating at first but once you do it once the next time is a breeze.

Very good price on a very low hour machine. Best of luck with it and Glenn

I'll second Stevebo's wash & fluids and all the good advice given above. All too often I'll take in a horse to find hydro and engine fins plugged May not be the case with your new to me but as they say cleanliness is next to godliness. Lube per manual... if you don't have them we may have them here. I think you got a smoking deal! Any issues ask... sounds like we got a few 'xi experts here!

to @Joshua cartwright Keep looking. There are usually a lot of on Craigs List if you are a little patient.

Joshua, they know what they are talking about. Way too much money for what you would get! I don't live too far from you, and there are plenty of places to find a wheelhorse that is in a lot better/complete state. There always seems to be one or two on CL in Otisville or Lapeer. Good luck!

Napa 4L280W 28" kevlar belt. With the PTO belt off spin the blades by hand. Check for binding. Lots of bearings in these decks. A real common problem I have found with these is that the cross shaft bearing start to sieze in the aluminum housings.

I've done a few. I repaired any major dings with JB Weld, painted the spokes with Krylon for plastic and coated the rim with Dupli-Color truck bed liner. It looks and feels great and is as durable as most anything.

I should make a post that says What have I done for your horse today. Well just a few more seat covers for sale. I'll take to the Big Show if I done sell them . The top 2 are in the making. Can anyone guess what the last one says . I just tried some W H to see how they would come out.not bad if I do say so.
