Well here's the current status of the B80.... At some point the parts that are still red will get a fresh coat of nice bright red. A before, a couple days ago. A few "in progress" pics. Stick on tape sandpaper type stuff on the steps. A ummm.... repair to the belt guard Added felt tape to the battery box to stop the vibration of a loose battery Here's how it looks for now. New knobs and a keychain from one of our fine vendors - Mr Pettit. And...... Check out the horn !!!

Well she runs. Amazing what a set of points and a condenser will do for you. Oh and not having the fuel pump on upside down. Don’t ask, it was a late night when I put it on. Not good with staying up late anymore. Took all the power steering stuff out and went back to factory steering at least till after the show. Might leave it that way and use the PS on something else. All hiem joints except for onerod end. Steers good to me. Also got the headlights installed and they seem to work. Had the lense on for a little while and the fan running and the lense didn’t get hot. We’ll see how long it lasts. Half the fun of building stuff for me. Also have a pic of my helper for the day. She wouldn’t leave me alone so I let her jump in.

I finally got the 5-20 out of my cousins garage bay. We stabiled the fuel in December and shut it off at the tank. Went there today and it fired right up. This tractor runs so well I think the hour gauge is correct. The motion controls need adjustment (lever won't stay in position) and the tach doesn't work. Aside from that it's good. I have all the panels to replace the pitted ones. The 3-12 is out cause I have a mow job that needs bagging. So I put the deck on, I completely went thru it this winter and a new belt. The bagger is going on later.

Tonight I got the correct belt for it, installed it and put on the fan @wallfish. Pulled the rear wheels to paint the hubs and axles/axle spacers. Filled her with oil, retighten all the lines after a small spill and worked all the air out of it. She moves forward, backwards and when the brake is pressed, she stops and goes back to neutral. Also installed the 418-A neutral detent and adjusted her to where she doesn’t creep. Finished up my hood latch button. Still need to weld up the slot in the front if the hood. Getting down to the nitty gritty.

Duh.....did this just this past Saturday on my 414-8.Mowed about 10 feet and the tractor stopped moving.Pushed it back to my shop, pulled of the right foot rest and drive belt cover.Belt was real loose, but not bad enough to make the tractor not move at all.Thought something broke in the tranny.Standing there looking and feeling stupid,I glanced at the hi lo shifter. It was in neutral. What a relief.Installed a new #7473 belt that I already had.Goes like new now.Belt should last another 30 yrs.Good luck with your problem.

I wouldn't want to cause a reverse super charging effect at the high speeds I do.... Actually, I thought of that but it just didn't look right. Besides... Taller stack = more chrome! .

Worked the 400 a little bit, around here today. For toting, even the Mrs Rules said... "Man, that thing sure comes in handy."

Just finished working the Commando at our poor man's lake home. Very warm and humid here today so second shower, slip on the shorts and sitting in the old camper air conditioning watching the Cubs. Fired up Lola's laptop and working on trading cards and other stuff for the Big Show. Dave (Muz123) has taken spot #47 so 3 spots left and running out of time.

So I have a Craftsman GT3000 and have owned it since new in 2001. It’s been (and still is) an awesome machine. But I know at some point small things will quit so I stumbled across an identical tractor to mine minus the motor. Bought it cheap as a spare parts machine. But rather than store an entire tractor I dismantled it and will box up everything I want and will scrap the rest. Took me about 2-1/2 hours to get it all done. Had a blast doing it!!

Got to work on the C-100 8 speed over the weekend...Only real rust was on the rear fender pan. Luckily the previous owner sent a replacement along with the purchase. Changed it over Sunday and ,moved the seat back two inches and now I fit. I was surprised at just how bad the rear pan was with no rust anywhere else. I was about to toss the old pan but thought I should post pics and see if anyone needs one. Needs about a 8 x 10 patch welded in. Not needed by me as I had the spare but I have no idea of these are plentiful or not. If someone needs it it's free for the cost of shipping. I'll hang on to it for a few weeks and see if there is any need for it. Then I mowed with the Wheelhorse for the first time this afternoon... Wow what a great little machine. I'm used to my Bolens XL16 that overpowers the lawn... the Wheelhorse requires active participation and finesses the win... what a great little tractor. I have to tip my hat to the PO I charged the battery and turned the key and off we went.... all greased up , everthing already adjusted, fluids good , new paint and it would look new....maybe over the winter. then again something to be said for honest patina. Nest week I hope to fire up the Hydro C-100 and see how that works..... Great Forum here and glad it's available... Mike B

We finished up assembly on the Patriot Horse this morning ( See the restoration section for more on that. ) ...And put it right to work. We moved some cut/split wood out of the forest. I found even with fluid filled tires I was slightly lacking for traction in the rough forest so I added these "other brand" wheel weights. 50 pounds each. Seemed like it helps. Tractor now weighs well over 900 pounds without my extra ballast. My next/current project is the trailer in the pics. I'm moving the axle back to put more weight on the tractor and also to facilitate easier dumping. I'll throw some pics if that in the implements section in a few days.

Well it went in today. Keep in mind I bought this truck with 150,000 miles on it. I have replaced the muffler and tail pipe because it rotted and a sway bar link because it broke. I replaced the rad because the fins got mushy no leaks. And I replaced the shocks because I wanted to. I just called them. I had them check the gas tank, gas lines, brake lines calipers, wheel bearings, rack and pinon, steering, hoses. Changed the oil and tire rotation. I needed....................... a tail light bulb! Out the door with tax $52.95

You might want to consider cutting off some of the wheel weight mounting bolts and putting an acorn nut on them. I have a couple of scars on my leg from tangling with wheel weight bolts.

@squonk Keep it up Skunky and you will have to follow a treasure map to find that very nice 16 hp thumper. Especially when the payment for hauling services is a hot dog for lunch. Have not idea what you are talking about.

being impatient I put the belt on and found a board for temp seat fired it up again and took it for a ride, I was told by the PO it was in his storage for 25 years or so, drove great, so now waiting for the seat, have to reattah the hitch, paint the muffler high heat black, and some other details, the rims will get painted antique almond I decided. here's some pics all clean and paste waxed up! it was a fun weekend

Been noticing a little difficulty shifting lately so I took a peek at the transmission sludge... Uuhhhh... fluid. Nasty. Put the front up a bit to help drainage. Anyone thirsty ????? I'll let it drain till tomorrow evening and do a drive-around-flush or two with Diesel.

there are no tricks. If you have a mower or owners manual and you follow it, the deck goes on like butter, 5 minutes or or off. If you do not have either manuals, you can find them here in the manuals section. If you need a more detailed reply, tell us what is the problem (details) you are having and just about anyone here will know the answer.

The Slot hitch is sold! 551 deck is sold. RJhood is sold Steering Wheel sold D series Rims Sold Here are some photos of additional items I would bring to show if someone wants them. If you see something let me know. Too many smalls to break out. the tranny is from 551 and has the hubs. Turns but needs cleaned out at minimum. Hood is an RJ hood I believe. Rims are off front of GT14. Otherwise a lot but not all came from GT14. I can’t give part numbers or specifically indicate model other than GT14 or Other.

Excellent pictures. There is nothing wrong with your differential...except that spider gear. The differential carriage rides on the inner bronze bearings and the axles ride on the outer bronze bearings. There will be no flex when the differential is installed. Send a PM to @Jake Kuhn and/or @Lane Ranger for the spider gear. Be sure to count the teeth and tell them what you have...it is either 11 or 12 teeth. Probably 11. You are correct on saving the plate. You are just welding steel...not cast iron....very fixable.

Did you ever figure out if anything on them worked?

I found that if you Mow crossways to the first cut it seems to cut the stragglers better. In extreme cases I get out a powerful leaf blower. to clear the cuttings so they dont lay so thick on the lawn. It can be tough on belts, however

When you say you have rear deck wheels up all the way do you mean they are lowered down all the way, because up all the way will lower the deck to its lowest cut setting.

Your 1973 8hp 4-speed takes 1-1/2 quarts of SAE 90-140 or 80/90 A.P.I. Service GL-5 Gear Lubricant. The best place to add oil is through the shifter hole with the shifter removed. When draining the old oil and subsequent diesel fuel solution, be sure to raise the front end of the tractor so that all the fluid in the front of the transmission can run over the hump in the middle of the transmission and toward the drain hole in the back. Your transmission has a drain plug in the bottom that requires a 1/4" Allen wrench to remove.

That sounds like great question to pose to your Department of Agriculture local extension agent, or the School of Agriculture at the land grant state college in your state. They would likely have the best solutions for your soil type and local conditions. Also a reputable local landscaper or nursery might be able to answer you questions. Just a suggestion. I grew up in a small country town but always listened to rock in roll from the sixties until modern day . Mostly hard rock/heavy metal like Zepplin , The Who , Metallica , Black Sabbath all the way into the more modern groups like Distruberd , System of a Down , Five Finger Death Punch (one of my favorite concerts) . In my town if you listened to heavy metal you’re labeled a stoner . I was the black sheep of all my friends who listened to country or R&B . I also like some of that old country like Hank Williams Junior , Charlie’s Daniels band (I know that’s not old) . But one of my favorite songs of all times is from Toby Keith . He has a collection of “bus songs” that just make me laugh . Here’s one and mods if it’s removed I understand but no matter how many times I listen to it it makes me smile and laugh. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-tJXjt5D4zY

Use a grey scotchbrite pad and scuff it using soapy water, it scuffs easier and the soap cleans the oil and grime off which is the biggest reason paint does not stick. Randy

Well, two things here...either someone spent a lot of time messing up a good horse...or somebody spent a lot of time messing up a good horse. it is a Wheel Horse frame. Front tires are from a Lawn Ranger. The hood is from 1960, but has been heavily modified. Not sure where the seat is from. The fenders look like they were from a horse, but have been modified. Wheel Horse never used Wisconsin engines. The Ponds used Wisconsin's on their Senior horses. I don't mean to be picking it apart...the Seniors were a one of a kind also. Does it run?? Somebody loved it enough to keep it running. Interesting for sure.

Well that's what I thought Ritchie but there isn't a crack in the metal it just flexes. The other crack flexes all the time.

Looking for a good square seat pan for my 701. Mine is fine but for some reason it "Oil Cans" when getting on and off. Drives me nuts. I'm a fat slob but not that fat and the seat on my 704 did not do this.

Well a little more done. Finally moved her inside so I could work out of the rain. Got my new tail lights mounted, ignition switch in and wiring figured out. All temporarily wired up to get it working correctly. When it is right I will make a complete wiring harness. Fuel tank in, solenoid in. Next up is to run the fuel line, filter, and get the right length belt...... baby steps before leaps and bounds 👍

My first Wheel Horse still likes to work. The Tecky pulled a load of stone home from the field, so we made a retention pond to disperse the house rain water. I know, it's pretty obvious, I'm not a stone mason.

My latest purchase, I was told it was started once and ran for about 2 minuets in 1993 so it’s not technically new anymore but close enough. Now I need to figure out what it’s going in

Lots of study and research. I got the bearings removed and looked up the part numbers in the deck parts manual and went from there. I found a Stens replacement number on RCPW and tracked down some on ebay. I have a digital caliper to measure the thickness, I.D. and O.D. to verify what I'm ordering. I shop around to find the best deals. I ordered some of the larger shaft bearings from Walmart.com too. I also got info from past threads here on RS. The Spindle ID chart is very helpful also, found in the manuals section, once I figured out how to understand it. I've done my homework on this one. It's been fun, interesting and educational working on something new to me. I'm enjoying it. I'm pretty much learning as I go here. I did get one incorrect piece of info from and old thread though. The Harbor Freight pulley remover tool would not work on these pulleys. I found this out after purchasing one and then returning it. The groove on the pulley shaft is too far down on the shaft for the tool to reach. I removed the pulleys with a bearing separator I got from HF and it worked very well. It's the only way I can keep track of stuff. I had to keep the parts separate after I realized the spindles were not all the same. This is a side project I've been working on for about a week and a half now, a little at a time. I work full time and play music on the side so I don't get as much time as I like to! It's an extra deck I'm going to keep for backup and mowing leaves in the fall. I mow regularly with a RD. I like the SD deck to blow leaves in rows and then mulch with the SD deck.

Agree with Bowtie above completely - the only thing I would add is I use stainless bolts with the blue threadlocker. Seems to help in an environment that is pretty tough on metal even with good cleaning practices. Duff
