Remember the reason for the holiday!

well got her painted up new rubber new hydraulic lines for the pump installed new trany gasket new shifter and did retap the dog screw threads new carb added on new tail lights on the rear fenders just waiting for the seat to be done also new non detergent straight 30w motor oil plus new gear oil also the plow the plow i have for it will be repainted too also new decals here's a pic of so far whats done

I usually don’t chime in but I wholeheartedly agree. More and more it seems, Memorial Day is known as the start of Summer and sales. Someone down the street was setting off fireworks. Really pissed me off. I remember losing fellow soldiers in multiple conflicts and peace time training. Just my thoughts.

May we never forget those that fought before us, and those that fought and did not make it. This day is for them and for us, that made it, to remember them. Don't ever forget that the freedom we love was paid for by those Veterans. Freedom is something that you have to fight for everyday...maybe more now then ever before. If you can't fight...make sure you VOTE...that is the best freedom we have.

Just finished working the Commando at our poor man's lake home. Very warm and humid here today so second shower, slip on the shorts and sitting in the old camper air conditioning watching the Cubs. Fired up Lola's laptop and working on trading cards and other stuff for the Big Show. Dave (Muz123) has taken spot #47 so 3 spots left and running out of time.

Thank you to all those who given of themselves for the benefit of our freedom. My father and his brother have met in their home town for many years every Memorial day to be at the days event. I didn't even mean to time it this way... we'll be assembling red, white and blue "Patriot Horse" this morning.

Set the D-200 out in the sun today 98 degrees to help bake the paint, been in shop for 3 months. Need to get some tail lights yet.

Well she runs. Amazing what a set of points and a condenser will do for you. Oh and not having the fuel pump on upside down. Don’t ask, it was a late night when I put it on. Not good with staying up late anymore. Took all the power steering stuff out and went back to factory steering at least till after the show. Might leave it that way and use the PS on something else. All hiem joints except for onerod end. Steers good to me. Also got the headlights installed and they seem to work. Had the lense on for a little while and the fan running and the lense didn’t get hot. We’ll see how long it lasts. Half the fun of building stuff for me. Also have a pic of my helper for the day. She wouldn’t leave me alone so I let her jump in.

Well here's the current status of the B80.... At some point the parts that are still red will get a fresh coat of nice bright red. A before, a couple days ago. A few "in progress" pics. Stick on tape sandpaper type stuff on the steps. A ummm.... repair to the belt guard Added felt tape to the battery box to stop the vibration of a loose battery Here's how it looks for now. New knobs and a keychain from one of our fine vendors - Mr Pettit. And...... Check out the horn !!!

I finally got the 5-20 out of my cousins garage bay. We stabiled the fuel in December and shut it off at the tank. Went there today and it fired right up. This tractor runs so well I think the hour gauge is correct. The motion controls need adjustment (lever won't stay in position) and the tach doesn't work. Aside from that it's good. I have all the panels to replace the pitted ones. The 3-12 is out cause I have a mow job that needs bagging. So I put the deck on, I completely went thru it this winter and a new belt. The bagger is going on later.

I hate to quote myself, but the military and former military veterans lead the country in suicide, especially on memorial day! The guy I had in my unit that did it probably had a 200k+ job waiting for him in the civilian area. The guy was a techno-ninja. I understand how it happens. Especially, for us mechanics and the technical jobs. The non-combat jobs don't get as much post-fight info and counseling. We had cooks kicking down doors and throwing grenades on convoys. It weighs on the mind. I, personally, joined to be a truck mechanic. I wound up being a convoy commander that was in charge of millions of dollars of equipment and (way more importantly) dozens of "kids". ( I always called my soldiers kids because most were younger than me because I didn't join until I was 24). I kept up with all of my kids, but my suicide was a really smart guy that was older than me that I didn't think would kaboom on me. That still bugs me that I didn't see it. So, my request is that you call somebody if you have ideas or even doubts. I'm medically retired now, but I'll sit up all day or night talking to you! (Text me first so I know you're a fellow) I don't want to hear about another warfighter doing it! We earned the help! I'll add info when I can find it.

I totally agree with all above posts. We in this great country take a great deal for granted, that was bought with the blood of our young men and women through many years of protecting our country and way of life.We should EVERYDAY remember the great sacrifice they and there families have freely given too this great land. I've been storing gas during hurricane season for the past 14 years. During that time I've experimented with a few small cans of different gases, high octane, low octane, ethanol, non ethanol, with stabilizer and without. After 8 months they all looked and smell a little funky with out stabilizer, the octane didn't seem to matter much but the ethanol sure did. The ethanol, was just plane nasty, the non ethanol was much better but still looked and smelled worse than a fresh jar of non ethanol. All the gases with stabilizer did far better. Pour some ethanol gas in a jar and set it somewhere safe opened, after a few day take a look at it then check it after 30 day, I guarantee you don't want that s**t sitting in you tank or worse your carb. If you use ethanol gas and your not going to completely use it up in 30 days please use some type of stabilizer, what ever kind you like are can find, I would appreciate it, I might be buying that tractor from you one day .

I am not so sure about that. Even in the old days with real gas and even lead, gas eventually went bad Stabil was around long before ethanol gas...

being impatient I put the belt on and found a board for temp seat fired it up again and took it for a ride, I was told by the PO it was in his storage for 25 years or so, drove great, so now waiting for the seat, have to reattah the hitch, paint the muffler high heat black, and some other details, the rims will get painted antique almond I decided. here's some pics all clean and paste waxed up! it was a fun weekend

That 953 “Big Wheel” is a real beauty! That tire combo looks vaguely familiar and I love it! You have done a great job, can’t wait to see some pics or video of you playing on it.

Steve, you're so very right! One thing I stressed to my "kids" (the young soldiers I had in Iraq) was they had to pick their "decision makers" with an honest mind. They each had a full day off (that I worked for them) when they brought me proof that they went to JAG and did their absentee vote. I didn't care who they voted for, just that they did.

Not familiar with the PTOs on your tractors but have several on horizontal shaft engines. What anchors the PTO to keep it from spinning? Horizontal units have a small tab welded on the coil section that is fastened to a simple bracket to the engine block. all you would have to do is rig up a mounting bracket to connect to your field coil. and hold it still.

By the way...if the last number of that casting date was a 9...it would be a 1959, but being an 8, you just don't know. Check out the manuals section on the main page. We have a few manuals that you can print and use to get her running. Wheel Horses were never like Corvettes. The 58/59 for all intents and purposes are the same, and almost no ID tags made it through to today. It is not a big deal, Wheel Horse had a habit of being efficient, they used the parts they had and did not worry about what the new year looked like. Nice looking black hood!!

See there are 2 #6663 seals on each side. This later ipl shows the outer seal installed backwards to keep dirt out and the inner installed to keep the oil in. The 6663 seal is a SKF/Chicago Rawhide 14810 for 1.5" shaft, 1.875 (1-7/8") OD and 1/4" thick. I did not check all the ipl's so compare dimensions. After the first seal is installed add a layer of grease over it to lubricate the 2nd seal that is installed backwards. Click on the picture. We do have an older operator manual. Garry

If you use ethanol free gas you don't need to add StaBil.

Today's update on the B80 sheet metal painting project

Beautiful tractor. great Work!! I would strongly recommend you put a filter on the FEL. Never understood why Wheel Horse thought a suction screen was adequate.

Here is a picture of it just below the axle. It is 1/2" wide, 1" long and 1/4" stock and is flat.. The bolts that hold the side plates on are 1/2"...the bolt that holds on this piece is 3/4". It has a 1/4" hole for the end of the spring. They are easy to make.

Ok so I may be about SIX months behind getting this pic to you. Ummmmm...... Better late than never???

too funny lol i'm 5'11 tall but my dunlap disease is big lol where i have it now i'm in pretty good comfort and the steering wheel doesn't make feel like a sandwich being cut into lol

Thanks to both Ed and Wallfish for the suggestions. The battery negative connects directly to the frame and the starter housing is bolted to the engine. I will proceed with all suggestions on testing before I pronounce the starter as dead.

So I went back to the garage and tinkered with the horse some more and figured it out. It was the pto switch as oldredrider mentioned, after giving it a good slam in the disengaged position it fired up. Apparently I was too gentle with it yesterday. I did notice that it appears that battery acid has corroded the plastic connector for the pto switch wiring, I doubt I will be able to find a replacement connector so I'm wondering if I should get the connector off and crimp on some spade connectors, any thoughts? Is there any kind of adjustment for the pto switch, maybe it's just out of adjustment?
