14 pointsOk it’s that time of the year again so I decided it was time to break out the wheel horse planter for the first time ever - for the first time it didn’t do to bad - it slipped a few times so I might have to make a few small adjustments or put a small weight on it next time.

10 pointsI take tractors to about 8 shows per year. How I set up depends on the rules at the show. Some shows will allow you to have your trailer or camper by your display, others don't want any trailers in the display area. Most shows in our area will have card board signs that you can fill out with your information. I took the time to make some out of wood that resemble the grills of each tractor, then I burned my info into the wood. Here is a pic from one show last year.

8 pointsI stopped at a Garage Sale and spotted this WH Cart in the back yard. The old fella wasn’t ready to sell it. But gave me his number and said call him in s year..... and I will. This is the first WH Cart Ive spotted in Texas Part of the fun of collecting is stumbling across things and then working some deal to aquite them Sorry guys I’m not telling where it’s at!

7 pointsFinally got the cultivator set finished and installed on the 701. Started her for the first in over a month since I began her makeover.. She started right up and purred like a kitten. Only thing i don't like about the jeep cables is that the throttle creeps in where it doesn't lock. Quick fix- piece of rubber hose split to have to keep it throttled up. Just pull out the throttle and clip it over the cable between the knob and dash.

6 pointsOut for a drive with the misses and low and behold at the end of a lane way was a c161. Home to get the trailer and 1hr later the herd has grown yet again. 50 bucks got me what wants to be a black hood. Maybe the dark night. Not run for 4 years. Tranny shifts good, tires are tubed so they hold air. Deck is good. Blower is........... well we will see. Motor has 90 psi in the forward and 15 in the rear. It has spark. The fibre glass pan and hood are in decent shape too. Can't make out model # yet

6 pointsHoly crap Jabel you got a fine herd ther ... you holdin out on us with the ?.......might be a crime not to take them to shows for others to enjoy! I was in your boat a few short years ago but then like the flick of a switch I (we) were empty nesters with time (and money) on our hands . Luckily now the grand kids as well as our nieces and nephews think our tractors are the coolest and clamor their parents to come to our shows for rides, ice cream and family fun in general. No better way to spend a weekend with friends & family!

6 pointsMy Dad and I had collected several Cub Cadets including 2 Originals from 1961 and they are serial numbers 14,882 and 14,883. Just dumb luck we found the second one, already had it on the trailer before I looked. It would cost a lot more had I known up front! Here is a pic of one of them, I am going to tear them both down and restore both then display them in memorial to Dad. Might be a few years though! We painted that around 13 years ago or so, don't remember for sure. My son and I still use it all the time and it still looks pretty good. It does always spend the night inside though! Randy

6 pointsEvery show is a little different. Most always you can unload your tractor, canopy, chairs etc. by your display but many times are required to park in a separate area (lack of space). If the show does not allow unloading by the display a tub can be brought along to haul back and forth between display and parking. A tub is always a good idea to have along anyway for tub rides for the kids.

5 pointsI had a brief e-mail from Glen today. He said that he will post a message with pictures to the community soon. He was in the hospital for a long time and is still recovering, and is eager to get outside. I don't have anything more, I'm just really glad to hear from him! Looking forward to his note to us with how he's doing.

5 pointsMy son put together a sandbox on a 4 wheel wagon so my grandson can play in sand thats not wet or full or cat poop. We just roll it in and out of the shed.

5 pointsFuel Pump is possible but compressed air may damage it. Also could be the float needle is getting stuck when it sits. Since you tank is above the carb you really do not need a fuel pump most the time...Bypass the pump run fuel line from tank directly to carb. Keep the tank pretty full and see if problem resolves if it doesn't float valve is probably sticking and carb cleaning is in order. Gravity is far more reliable than fuel pumps. I f the yard you mow is reasonably level you may never need replace the fuel pump if it is bad.

5 pointsThe old girl may surprise you. My dad‘s sat in his basement for over eight years after he quit mowing his own grass. We pulled it out a couple of years ago and after a complete tuneup, fresh fuel lines, filter, new battery, and fresh gas it started right up and is still running good today. This is what it looked like when we pulled it out.
-
5 pointsKinda takes all the fun out of it Randy ...when I was his age we wouldnta had and thing to play with in the sand if it weren't for the cat poop or putting wet sand down my sister's pants!

4 pointsHere's my C-161 8 speed at Stevebos meet and greet in Connecticut last fall.

4 pointsboy I wish I had the time to show with life and kids me busy. I have a fleet of restored garden tractors. when we have picnics and parties I pull them out.
-
4 pointsIf I an not mistaken there is a plate that the shift lever comes up through. Just a wild a$$ guess, the seat switch wires could be routed in such a manner that they are being pinched and grounded by the shift lever as you go to second gear. Pull the plate off and take a look.

4 pointsWas thinking about you this morning Jeff. Wish I was closer I would help you.

-
4 pointsMe too, I spent many hours on my knees pushing Tonka trucks around a big pile of dirt ! Maybe that is why I ended up being a heavy equipment operator. Honestly I'm glad we didn't have all this stuff we have now a days. Kinda sucks that most kids don't even know what metal Tonka, Nylint, Buddy L trucks and equipment are. Luckily I was abul to save every one I ever had and have them stored away properly in my attic.

3 points1975 C-160. Sat outside for 10 years before I rescued it around 10 years ago. got it running and was one of my projects when my wife had her fall and was put on the back burner. Sold my Bantam recently so in order to get that out I had to move this. Transmission release valve frozen so I figured I'd start this and move it out of the way. Jump start and shot of carb cleaner and it fired right up and drives. Engine runs great. No smoke at all. Transmission seems strong. Rear tires are mismatched and one doesn't hold air. Front tires have slow leaks. Needs a new battery. I'm asking $450.

3 pointsAdded bonus - Can be pulled behind the while Grandpa gets his seat time (er...chores done...). That way the lucky kid can "help" Grandpa with chores while playing with his own make believe 's anywhere the real one goes!!! And BTW guys - You can always find cat poop to play with...It does not need to be in the sand box...

2 pointsit's finally ago, finished some major house work over the last few months, the rental property is rented and now I can get back to the fun stuff... awhile ago I picked up this pair, I posted before, I have decided after seeing others on here the 701 is getting a patina restoration. this is new to me, normally I tear down and paint. what are some tips, red scotch pad and Johnsons paste wax, or clear coat? I am going to keep this as the running thread for the pair.
-
2 pointsI try to change up a little of what i bring so that its not all of the same stuff every time... although some stuff makes it two or three years before i switch it up. Part of what I enjoy about taking stuff to shows is to have some variety. The few shows I hit have some good guys that kind of do the same... so the displays are always a little different.
-
2 pointsNot sure on backspacing. Work has been extreme for past several months and is trending worse. Have not had time to touch the project in a long while. @fast88pu has an 8 speed with standard axles. If he sees this, he can give feedback on the pros/cons of the longer axles. I know he is planning on modifying his at some point.
-
2 pointsSign on the right $350 if anyone is interested 860-681-3610 can bring to show . Also show cruiser suburban $850

2 pointsInteresting discussion. Oddly enough in the only daily newspaper in my county (formerly owned by publishing giant Gannett), this was printed on the Editorial Page today. I thought it tied in nicely with what has already been said, and would interest everyone who has already contributed here.

2 pointsAdding a little SeaFoam to your ethanol gas will help detour the effects of the ethanol.

2 pointsCraig nice tractor. I really like the old Ford pick up. I am a Ford man.

2 pointsGlen is currently recovering from some health issues but will be back shortly. He manufactures many replacement small parts with improvements. Look through his offerings http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/forum/54-glen-pettit-restoration-parts/ Garry

2 pointsUse 10w-30 or 10w-40. The drain plug in on the bottom of the transmission near the hitch. Take the hitch off to make it easier to find.
-
2 pointsNot a problem, until I come home with Some of the stuff...girlfriend sometimes doesn't understand my fascination with old iron. I got a couple weeks before I get In trouble for this one...Bought it while she's on vacation in Florida

2 pointsI've been thinking about how those wheels are both angled the same way. Kind of reminds me of how graders can change the tilt of their wheels. Maybe the blade is just on the wrong tractor right now?
