Just a little update on the 59' RJ. Got everything cleaned and clear coated. Found a gas tank on ebay that I feel I got at a decent price. Motor is being rebuilt my my friend VINSRJ (check out his you tube videos on the rebuild). i have a 58' tranny in it so it can be a roller. Next big step is to tear into the tranny as something is broken inside for sure. Hope it is not too bad. I decided to paint the wheels black as I feel the black looks better with the patina than re painted in white. Getting there.

I’ve come to a point where my ideas, abilities, resources and working environment have met up with reality. So after a couple painted parts got bumped, fell over and got scratched, I said the heck with it. Back together she goes. I have Chip Foose dreams and a bum’s budget. So she will have patina, primer and paint. It will be put back together, hopefully running and moving without incident. This will be her shakedown run and I will hopefully have time to fix anything that comes up. That’s where I’m at today. Carry on

I have also heard an unsubstantiated rumor that those little clamps can prevent a hose from leaking at a fitting. Don't know if it is true, just something I heard.

I spent a little time on the B80 this evening. This little 8 horse Kohler impresses me more and more every time I use it. I took a yard trailer full of sand from the shed escavation project and moved it out to the path in front of our new Woods Bridge. The path has come a long way but it is still fundamentally just an opening in the woods with a lot of rocks and Roots sticking up and that tractor never misses a beat. Just putts a long crawling over everything. After that I moved a trailer load of three-quarter inch Stone from the upper driveway down into the pathway. Work like this is exactly what got me vacuumed into the world of wheel horse in the first place. Super impressive that I can be rolling through the woods moving a total of around a ton of material including the tractor and trailer and me.... Pretty strong for something so compact.

I worked this afternoon on the 1961 Wheel Horse 701 tractor ! I installed the lift arm piece (bought a broken one and had a new one welded as a replacement) I had made for the Hein-Werner HY-2 Hydraulic Pump/Lift Unit I bought last Fall at an auction. I had to drill three holes in the tower of the Wheel Horse to install the hydraulic pump support plate, installed the lift arm piece in the rockshaft for the hydraulic cylinder and tested it all out with my mid-mount grader blade that also has a tongue on it to install in the Wheel Horse rear slot hitch. These old HY 2 pumps have no large fill ports like the Wheel Horse 953/1054 pumps. It tool me 45 minutes to fill the hydraulic pump through the small fill port on the side of the pump! All in all it works well -no leaks on a 52 year old HY 2 Unit (was on a 1963 753 Wheel Horse but removed at the auction I bought it at and fully complete which is why I paid $90 dollars for it. It works great as a lift and I am going to use this with my two piece cultivator attachment in the vegetable garden this summer! I have a horn to install and lights before this 701 is ready to start rolling ! I also have to bend the shifter arm tomorrow to allow me to shift into 2nd and third gear! That reverse and 1st gear is just not enough for this 701~! This is really quickly starting to be my favorite tractor ! Pics from the install

Thank you all! Today was pretty good, while I didn't ride any horses, I did do some car work. My daughters car had a bad high pressure sensor for her A/C. Turned out that the bad sensor also leaked all the freon out, so had to remove the bumper to replace the sensor, then charged the AC up and it is back to being cool! So even though no seat time, it was a satisfying day!

I like my 1974 C160 hydro over all the tractors I have. It will push or pull anything I ask it to. But if my 314-8 had electric lift it would be my second favorite. But I still prefer hydro. As far as durability 44 years is pretty darn durable by any body's standards. It's all about maintenance, maintenance, maintenance.

Happy Birthday Karl , sorry to hear that you are now King of the Minions. I thought you were the leader of the fruitcakes and nut jobs that worry you all the time. Hope you have a great day and we won't let @squonkand @stevasaurus wear thongs at the Big Show I HOPE.

Started tilling the vegetable garden yesterday and this am finished. 75 x 30 garden. Should end up with seven or eight rows and two hills of zucchini. Blue Lake bush beans, three kinds of onions, basil , dill, kale, two types of lettuce, and more. Tomatoes and peppers come next. 314 tiller worked nice but did not seem to drop as much as my old model did on my C 121. My old tiller was a 1993 On a 1978 C121 and my new tiller is a 1979 or 1980 on a 1993 314! We filled up front tires and took out air in rear to drop tiller lower. Use to get about six inches depth. Soil may have been harder this time. 53180509-2E4B-4EAA-A269-8BBEDC90EECB.mov

This is a basic wiring diagram, of course the wire colors may differ but it will work for you. You don't have to wire the lights or the PTO or clutch switch but you do need to run the AMP meter wire the green and the red switch wires even if you don't put a amp gage or the pto and clutch gage on it.

I had a lot of noise when the clutch was depressed on my C-120. What I found was the hole for the clutch rod was worn. I drilled it out and installed brass bushings . Mine would make a hammering noise with the clutch depressed.

Ritchie, I’m likely in the same boat with my 22-8 project. I took a week off and never was able to work on it. Too many high priority tasks in front of it. And the weeks are blurring by. So I’ve just decided I’ll bring it in whatever shape it’s in when the time to load it up comes along.

Update, got parts today. Of course I didn't take the time to change one piece at a time since I figured they all needed changed. Put it simply the problem is fixed so it was the ignition. I did test the condenser afterward, I used a good old fashioned capacitor tester (one of the ones with the green eye) that has a leakage tester. I'm not sure what value I'm suppose to get but I was reading 0.2 uF and at 50VDC it passed the leakage test. What I did notice about the condenser was when I went to take off the old one, the mounting screw was loose. Also when I went to put the new one on, the screw is turning on the inside captive nut and cannot be tightened fully. The contacts are badly pitted from the fact that the condenser was probably out of the circuit from the loose screw, I hadn't noticed it when I was troubleshooting and it may have been shaking from the vibration of the engine. I still need to take off the sheet metal fan shroud and fix the nut that holds the coil and the bracket for the negative side of the condenser. For now it appears tight enough to show that the problem is fixed. I might stick the old spark plug back in just to see but for now it's fixed and I'm happy again.

If you take the belt guard off the worn paint where the belt contacts the guard should be evident. Sometimes a washer is needed to shim to guard out if the belt is contacting the side of it. Some may remember Blueknightbob. He added a strip of cap tape foam to the bottom ledge of the guard. Remember that from way back when. Garry

It sounds that you are trying to stop by only using the brake pedal. That is not how it is designed to work. You must also engage the clutch pedal to stop the tractor.

My bet is on the idler pulley. My C141 did the same thing. Pulley was likely original, 37 years old. Put in a new one and the noise is gone

Older thread @Lane Ranger and you may have learned this by now but when filling these I use a nifty little hand pump like this for filling. Takes about five minutes. Its for changing lower unit lube in outboards. The tip fits nice into the fill port so leave a line loose to burb. leave

8-speeds. If you keep the water out of them and do not try to shift on the fly they will run forever, and if something does go wrong they are pretty simple to fix
  38. 3 points
Another thing that could cause this is a worn belt, or rusty pulleys. If you find rust a little time with steel wool will clear it up.

Didn’t happen I agree though. I have moved things and pulled stuff I never thought they could do and they just keep chugging along. I’m sold. 👍 Love that pathway you two are building.

Check for play in the idler pulley. And make shure the drive pully on the tranny is tight...

I think Steve is right about this being from the thrust bearing. Unfortunately I do not think you can see it with out major disassembly. It sits behind the sleeve bearing which in turn sits inside the crankshaft oil seal. So it is in the crank case and you have to pull the end plate on the other side of the engine to get in there. You could pull the flywheel oil seal but I think all you would see would be the sleeve bearing sitting tightly on the crank. I am afraid major disassembly is in order.

@WHX17 I bought new razors. I’ll shave the nubbies off the tires. Had road rash before so the “pull the sled down the road” thing is out of the question. In the words of Boy George, “ Do you really want to hurt me?” Shoot, all the paint might blow off it on the way up.

I went to buy a deck for my sk486 and ended up buyin all of it. The guy was selling his deck from a c160. He still had the whole tractor and was scraping it. Also had a mid mount plow and a leaf vac. he tied to sell the parts a few years back. It's ruff been sitting outside for a few years but that's the fun. The controls are frozen, blown engine (broken con rod), seat is cracked, peddles are frozen +++. The tranny seems good though. Sure looks alot like my sk It id's as a 1974. A quick look at the engine I saw the con rod broke in half. Half left on the piston and half left on the crank.no other damage from first look. The wrist pin feels like it has better than 5 thou. play to the con rod. Here she is 😎🐾🐾

Either weight is fine but like Lane I've used 80w90 for years. Tightening the brake rod won't affect a 'slipping' clutch. What's slipping? The drive belt on the pulleys? It could also be one of the keys on a hub or the input shaft. It only takes one of them to cause issues.

Worked on my 314 with tiller to properly route the lift cable. Noticed that I had somehow routed the cable between the two cross member rods under seat. Easy to reroute with tiller down . Just take cable pin out and remove ball on cable from clevis. Reroute the cable properly and reinstall. Used my 1964 Wheel Horse 854 to move tailer load of yard waste. And mowed with the 1975 B-80 . All before noon. Plus painted an RJ steering wheel I repaired with JB Weld. Used Rustoleum Acrylic Enamel Gloss Black Paint. Two more to do but sanding comes first. The JB Weld Puddy does a great job and dries overnight.

Once they get a little age on them, the rubber hoses and such starts to break down and then you get a clogged carb. I would pull the tank and flush it, then put new lines and filter. Pull the carb and spray it out well, put it back together and see if that don't do it. If you find a lot of small black grit in the bottom of the bowl, you may need to soak the carb and put a kit in it. Randy
