I got a set of the two piece rims today. They have all parts an pieces, and appear to be early 1955 originals in good condition, I scraped a little paint off and silver is on the bottom. I gave the guy 100.00 do ya think to much or not? What else did they come on? These have tall head straight slot bolt outside with nuts inside. My 55 has every indication of very early if not the oldest to date, motor # is very early about 10 units older than what has been documented. I have 2 houses so going to use the living room the one,as the garage is full of tractors all red. Anyway. Thanks for reading or input. Tim

I recently bought a c161 8 speed manual, came with plow, mower deck weights and chains. I've been itching to use it and because our weather is in purgatory-no grass to cut, no snow to blow- I said eff it and plowed some leaves. After raking them into large piles I plowed them ******* right into the woods. It rated as one of the ten moments of my life. I love this tractor.

I guess its an 87 or 88 judging by no "Toro" but yet a Magnum motor... Its rough... is missing parts and some of the wires where cut off for copper scrap. I missed out on getting deck... it was already crushed. Paid $100 to scrapper... Ill get it running as it is and see if I scored a good motor... transaxle didnt have any water and shifts so im already ahead with that. Tony

The new to me pulley and bearings arrived and I picked up a new belt at car quest. Installed them yesterday and greased up the deck. Mowed a small patch of grass to make sure everything worked as it should. I am ready for spring. Thanks again for the help!!

Nice looking machine Jason. Is this one that got snuck out of the factory piece by piece. RJ58-62 Suburban ? Reminds me of that Jonny Cash song ...

Good save --- and buy! A suggestion - I just finished an '84 314-8 in similar condition, tho I did get a nice deck, for $150. When I went to looking at that rats nest of wiring with the night mare of safety features, I quickly decided to rip it all out and go back with just the necessary wires to make it go - tho I did include the lights. With your wires already missing consider doing this to yours. In spite of the pitiful looking horse I brought home, after some elbow grease (a goodly bit!!) some fresh paint AND the icing on the cake, some of Terrys decals! the dern thing looks GOOD!!

Yeah, I have been accused of not being normal Jim. But I am left handed, so that is what I blame most of my peculiarities on. Actually I have been butchering deer this way for quite a few years. I started using this technique when I was hunting/tent camping in some remote areas of W Va. and western Md. when I did not have any facilities. I carry a small rope fall, gimble, and a small meat saw and of course a knife. With this limited equipment, I can process a deer any place that I have a tree to hang it from. The process I use weather I am in the remote woods, or at home is: 1 saw off all four legs..fronts above the knee, rears below the hock. 2 as normal, split the hide from hock to hock on the inside of the rear legs 3 install the gimble and hang the deer. 4 case skin the deer w/o splitting the hide until it gets tight over the chest area 5 at this point , it is usually necessary to spilt the hide. I do this on the back This is necessary if the deer is to be caped for mounting. 6 continue case skinning the front legs and neck to the head. 7 saw thru the neck to remove the head and hide If mounting, cut off the hide behind the front legs and discard. The head, horns and cape are ready for the taxidermist. 8 you probably think I missed gutting the deer. No, this is where I open the body cavity and clean the inside . By waiting till after skinning, three is absolutely no hair on the body, and no debris inside the deer This takes about 60 to 90 minutes to get to this point. If the temp is 40 degrees or less, the deer can hang for several days before deboning. The deboning actually is easier if the meat is stiff from hanging as it slices easier. I find by doing the deboning while the deer is hanging from a fixed object, it makes it easier and gravity helps to separate the meat from the bones There is a health safety advantage also to this method. Due to the Mad cow, CWD etc., it is recommended the spinal cord and the bone marrow should not be exposed. Sorry for the long post Jim, But I blame it all on being LEFT HANDED. Not at all Jeff. and we luv stories.

All went good. Emory comes back in January to begin some Botox injections to weaken his tight muscles to allow for strengthening of the weaker ones in his arm. Couldn't ask for doctors to be any better to a child! Thanks and yup, that run was actually in the primer and I knew it wouldn't be seen. There is a run in the clear on the front that will have to be sanded out. It was a little cool the day I painted. I had planned on buffing the paint a little before Christmas anyway.

Well was colder then all get out yesterday, but was the only day I had to spare, so I fired up the wood stove in the garage - Built me a Hillbilly paint booth with Exhaust fan (old leaf blower with hose out exhaust port in garage door) and spent the day burning brain cells even tho I was fully suited / head sock / Respirator. Amazing that stuff can get through the best of respirators. . . . Suspended a 2x6 through to hang items and threw some old dry rags along the top of 2x6 to keep the humidity down. If your not aware of the "ease" of use / construction with rolled thin painters plastic and a can of 3M spray adhesive = simply spray one side of plastic and it sticks / seals instantly to anything and itself - Old Painters masking tricks IT WORKS AWESOME - residual glue "generally always" lifts off floors / walls when plastic removed. Looked Like a crime scene room towards the end of the evening Dam the garage is a Mess Fully Dismantled - Most everything is done except the hood / snow blade, Seat and front rims

You're kidding right? Hasn't been any dust on that thing since 2009, when Fireman Jeff completed it. Seriously doubt it's ever had fire in the hole. While we're at it...here's another electric start, K-91 blast from the past... nice thing is...this one still has it's picts in the post.

We figure it out Tried with out part on and caused shatter. Installed it and no more chatter. Belt does need replaced It's on it's last adjustment. On order from local Toro dealer. Like I said friend took apart to clean and paint. So while it was here we finished installing his weighted rear Tires and chains. Change his trans lube air filter and oil. De carboned valves and New head gasket. Installed new foot pads from Eldon Glatfelter. Old guy left happy and loved the price He did ***** about the price being free. LOL

Thanks! I hope this is as good of a gift as I think. Good Lord willing, we'll be at the Big Show with it. Emory's been betting on it since last summer. He's in heaven for 3 days! We're on our way to UVA for his dr appt today. Hopefully I'll get back to it next week.

Professor ( Bryce) , you sure are thinking it through, good job. Take your time, setting it up real nice and cozy. Planing your moves before you do them. I give it a thumbs up. The wheel horse tag on the wall set it off nicely. I am enjoying watching it come along and thanks for the video to. Cant wait to see the red iron in there when done. Glenn

WELL DONE Gentlemen !! Thank you for solving the mystery. My honey and I both were thinking something outdoors-ish because we'd seen it in a multitool set up. I do appreciate all the other ideas... and I can't say I won't try them out.... nose, ears....

If it's the part in the picture with the two nuts for adjustment, it's the early version of the clutch engagement damper. About a year ago I was putting my 312-8 back together and couldn't remember where it went. I put a picture of it on RS, everybody said leave it off, so I did, haven't missed it yet.

Well said! All the government research projects are being funded by special interests. Granite counter tops give off radon gas according to a study funded by DoPont, makers of Corian counter tops. However, I know that chocolate is a health food; don't try to change my mind there!

Jeff, they truly are awesome up there. The red is Rustoleum Red Metallic Speck. $40 shipped off of eBay for 6 cans. Had to hold two of them upside down to get them to spray. Somehow they were defective, but did fine. I really like the color, but you have to clear it or it has almost a purple look from the metallic particles. Looks awesome in the sun after clear!

Yes indeed, I've been told the bigger the tree the bigger the buck. I have seen rubs like that in the woods but unfortunately never the animal that made it! You have a peculiar way to clean & process your deer Ed but looks like an efficient way. I usually quarter everything and then can work on them on a table. You are certainly waste not want not!
