    Hello, As many of you know, Terry has been doing this craft part time for quite awhile. I just feel compelled to post something on his behalf. I have purchased many sets of decals from Terry at Redo Your Horse and let me tell you he is the absolute best at what he does! I can be a very annoying individual and when I have had to call him with an issue, he greets me with nothing but professionalism. I have many horses that look absolutely great thanks to him and his knowledge of Wheel Horse/Toro Tractors. So I give praises to Terry at Redo Your Horse!

    Thursday, Sept 28,2017 Pretty much a set up day. Locally made tractors were featured. Quite a collection of Sheppard Diesels .... Made in Hanover, Pa. The Druck Family sets up their new TOY. Chain saw collection. This is what happens when you have a tractor that needs an engine and hit n miss that needs wheels.....Built by this 83 year old youngster. A couple wicked fords. First youngster to ride the Crazy Horse. I had a few red ones there and saved plenty of room for Erics herd of 30 coming tonight. Oops, gotta go, Mrs K just pulled in with her "stretch" to take me out for for dinner.

    Also, Terry has been a strong supporter of RedSquare. Over the years he has come up with coll banners, refrigerator/tool box magnets and other goodies for supporters of the site. Great guy too.

    I delivered a load of tractors to the Steam 0 Rama this afternoon and while unloading a few small items from the back of the truck, I could not find a NOS set of 42" mulching blades. While searching for the blades, I noticed my three drawer tool chest was missing. Someone had helped themselves to the blades and my tools. I stopped at my insurance agent on my way home and he confirmed what I expected. I have $500 deductible and if I did file a claim, there is a risk my premium may increase due to my lightening strike claim in 2016. Oh well. Then I get a call from @ericj , apparently I offloaded my tractor in his space. So now I am really bummed out. Eric suggested I report the theft to the police as there may be other similar thefts and this additional information may help their investigation. Good idea, so I called the local Pa State police barracks as we don't have local police here in the outback. Within an hour, a State Trooper was knocking on my door. And here is the good news, there is not much hope of finding my tools, but after spending about an hour talking with this 25 year old trooper, my faith in human beings and especially our youth was immediately restored . Thank you Trooper Luke.

    @Vinylguy Terry has always been a great supporter of our little part of the Garden Tractor hobby. In the early days so many decals that he has available came from requests that people were making here! Sometimes a crappy old decal picture and a few measurements was all he had to go on. Terry and Lola are a real asset to Wheel Horse collectors nationwide.

    I would start by not starting a restoration. Get it fully functioning mechanically and use it for a while and think about it. Those babies are pretty complicated so even a mid-level resto will involve a huge amount of time and resources not to mention it will be staring at you in pieces around your shop for the next year or so. It's never good to look back and say.....I should have just left it alone.

    Sorry to hear this. It's really deplorable but unfortunately it happens more often than what we realize. In my opinion worse than the material loss, is the feeling of being absolutely violated and then the constant awareness and uncomfortable feeling one has always expecting it to happen again .Summarizing it a total loss of faith in human nature. They should announce it on the loudspeaker calling out the individuals for what they are so when they look at other people they would have the feeling that everyone is looking at them knowing they did it.

    I am in the process of helping Thomas V round up some horses that are going to Denmark. I wanted to take this chance to ask if anyone needed any parts I am sure we can work something out. Any bigger items would have to go through Thomas. As you can imagine it is quite the expense for Thomas so he would need to compensated accordingly. feel free to PM with needs and I will work with Thomas before a price is given.

    So much depends on size of your lawn, how much plowing, hours on the machines, etc. Pictures and more info would help. If you don't have much lawn, the Craftsman is OK, as long as you store in indoors so that the deck doesn't rust away. I prefer Kohlers over Onans. If an Onan goes bad, I couldn't afford the repairs. If a Kohler 14 goes bad, I might be able to fix it myself. The hydraulics on the GT14 are nice, so based on the info so far, I'd keep the GT14 for plowing and heavy work. Good luck, Jim

    That truck tire hit the porch right where I had put a double floor joist in. If it had been about a foot to the left it would have gone up the steps and gone through a beveled glass door!

    At the current condition of your D - I'd start with a few of the mechanical issues they had . Biggest problem is that hydro pump coupling at the engine's flywheel . Once it gets worn it can strip it's teeth and eat the pump shaft's teeth off while doing it - there are a ton of documented ways to repair them and I just went through this with my own D-180 . The rear axle differential case bolts can shear off on the early models and actually crack the trans case - that one is a big headache due to how the hydraulic line manifold is built - not to mention how everything is mounted in a pretty tight space back there . You probably need to go through the Ross steering box and the main steering idler arm - both are easily upgraded with bushings and bearings . It's far easier to rebuild these parts now before there is a failure that can cause having to hunt down replacement used parts that will still need to be rebuilt/upgraded . Put the bearing and seal kit upgrades on the Ross and you'll be amazed at how easy it is to steer in comparison to the stock setup with only a thrust washer to take the load - that one upgrade is a big change . Consider what your skill level is - there is always a ton of help here and becoming a member here with a subscription allows you to upload plenty of photos when you need that help . It also keeps the group supported as this site is so loaded with data and the folks that keep it going .     I wish there was an easy fix, but often that is not the case. Been there on both sides since I sold insurance for a decade and suffered major personal losses as well. Glad there's a quality youngster out there working on the good side! Wishing you the best and it's good you're looking at the brighter side. (or maybe less dim...) By the way, if I've not said it recently, thanks for all your great comments and tips on the forum! Better luck to you!

    I live along a state highway. I get fast food bags, Red Bull & beer cans. Car parts, oil bottles, tarp straps, apple cores, love notes, garbage cans, bike tires ect.. We did have a walk behind tiller land in the road but the guy stopped. We had a drunk in a stolen car drive through our bushes and saw off a fire hydrant and a tire wheel assembly fly off an 18 wheeler and hit the front porch.

    As difficult as it can be to keep the GT14 in prime shape, you will definitely have second thoughts should you let it go. The fact that you have the Hydro purring is another good reason to keep. However 700 for a rusty machine is a hard sell. Same with a rolled craftsman. Good luck on whatever path you tread.

    I've had a problem with the local kids around here for years - it only takes a trip to the local bar and the gas station to find out who bought the beer the night before , then I talk to their parents . The garbage stops for a time before the next genius does it and the process repeats . I've gotten to know a lot of people around here that way - most are pretty polite and some will try to defend their kids thinking they wouldn't do such a thing - then I give them their own plate number and ask if they rather I talk to the local Sheriff...? I've had to walk away more than once when the kid is confronted by the parent - and the butt kicking ensues...lol . Working Construction the amount of crap that is thrown along our highways is staggering - you'd think the littering fines would help but they don't seem to have any effect at all . What really bothers me is some of this stuff is poisonous and downright dangerous - makes you wonder how anyone can drive a vehicle and lose something like that so easily . The amount of vehicle parts , some being quite critical to the driver's safety show up along the roads as well - brake parts in the ditch are not a good thing . I like one solution a co-worker had for a guy that lived down the road dumping his trash bags along his corn fields - he showed the guy bills with his name on them and told him next time he gives the trash to the Police - it never happened again . In the course of one week in the summer I can fill our recycling bin with what is thrown on this property - it's disgusting . Sarge

    It all takes time and an investment - that's well understood here and we welcome anyone regardless , so don't take it as folks being pushy . This site is so valuable and beloved by it's members that there are few like it out there - let alone the amount of knowledge here . Finding a nice condition finish mower and tiller is a great find - there aren't a lot of them out there that aren't already beaten to death or just plain worn out . Sarge

    Exactly the way I was feeling. Thanks for your generous comments Dennis and for the contributions you and many other members make to this forum. This theft of a few hundred dollars worth of tools and the resulting chance meeting of this young man may have created a priceless lifelong friendship.

    WOW! So sorry to hear that. Some nerve to steal right off the trailer. Back in the 1970's, I took my car to a high tech shop where I lived. This shop was famous for letting customers actually do work on their cars there, and would let them use their tools. But after a bunch of tools started to walk away, the owner had them all etched with the words "this tool was stolen from (name of shop), xxx-xxxx". My son has an Inland Marine rider on his homeowners policy. Inexpensive, and covers his stuff while away from home. He does photography as a part-time business and has some very expensive equipment. No deductible as far as I know. Hope the rest of the show goes better.

    I agree with what others here have said.If it ain't broke,don't fix it.I have several projects torn apart here in my shop that have been like that for years now.Will I ever get to them? Hope so.Someday? Do the repairs to make it dependable.When you buy another Wheel Horse......guarantee you will....Then do your restoration on the D200.Have fun with your new toy.

    I will be running it off the Eaton 1100 I am putting in it. The power steering I am using came off a Green gx345 tractor I parted. I am using the ram and rotary valve from it. I took the axles from a spare GT14 transaxle and swapped them into the Eaton 1100 like Aldon did his manual trans. Now I have the correct axle width but with a 520H transaxle/pump. The foot controls come from the same green tractor. Just waiting on gaskets for the transaxle halves.

    I would also ask..... What are your skills and what do you have in the way of tools/equipment? For instance, have you done any painting, what equip do you have to do paint - compressor, paint gun, etc? Necessary tooling to remove pieces? How much time can you devote to this? etc, etc? From your picture the tractor looks pretty darn good as is, I think I would correct the few minor problems, change fluids/filters, grease everything and use it for a period of time and just get to know it - and love it! (I have 3 of the "Big D's", they are workers!!)

    it all depends on what your definition of Restoration is? Does it need any mechanical engine or transmission overhaul due to it not running properly or worn out? Does it need worn steering and linkage areas or bushings replaced Does it need electrical rewiring or just a little contact cleaning and heat shrink Appearance Some like to paint them to better than new prefection Some paint them as workers Some like the aged "Patina" look and just give the sheet metal a work over with rubbing compound and wax Some wet sand them and give them a coat of clearcoat to preserve them. So tell us what you want this tractor to be (worker or trailer queen) and look like (gently worn, shiny patina or trailer queen new paint)

    For me being a supporter is less about how many photos I can post and more about saying thanks to all the people who keep this site running for us. I had attempted gaining information on other sites and was not impressed, then I spoke to a fellow owner at a show and he told me about RedSquare. My first post was answered promptly and I was given a wealth of information in addition to a dozen or more welcomes. A few weeks later the subject of being a Supporter came up in a post and it seemed like a no-brainer to become a supporter.

    I am thinking of selling one of my tractors, but I can't decide which. I am not a collector, so I don't need three tractors. I acquired each specifically to mow my lawn and only recently got them all fixed up to mowing condition. I am trying to think of reason's to keep or sell. I want to sell the Craftsman, but I'll get the least money for it because of the hood damage from flipping. Also the craftsman has been the most reliable, even with the gymnastics moves, and it has the highest horse power. The GT-14 is, well, a GT-14. 'Nuff said. It's the best of all three and has builtin hydro, is the best for plowing. But its the hardest to drive, least maneuverable, and hardest to source parts for. The 416-8 drives the best, but is in the sketchiest condition, rusted all over. But, I just had it tuned and fixed, it's a solid manual transmission which is great my hills, and I think is the best prospect for a possible loader in the future. Craftsman DLT3000 - w/ 42" mower deck Pro's for keeping- Parts are more available Engine runs well Manual Transmission Highest HP (18) Agile mowing machine Tires freshly weighted and loaded Cons for selling- Damaged hood from flipping it over Will probably get the least amount of money Wheel Horse 416-8 - w/ 42" Mower deck and 48" dozer blade Pros for keeping- 16 hp Onan twin Manual Transmission Engine and carb just tuned up Best option for an eventual loader build Agile mowing machine Cons for selling - Very sketchy looking, lots of rust Wheel Horse GT-14 - w/ 48" mower deck and 60" dozer blade Pros for keeping- Builting hydro lift for plowing heavy and stable for mowing Hydro just fixed and carb rebuilt Cons for selling- Eclectic machine, needs to find someone who really wants it Lights not working, not all original I need about $700 which is more than I can get for the Craftsman, probably more than I can get for the 416, and less than I would settle for for the GT-14. Some of you guys with experience, please chime in and give me some more things to thing about, to help decide.

    I agree, get rid of that crapsman and try to recoop what money you can. I'd hate to part with either horse. I know I've become a horse hoarder ... and I don't care! Lots worse things I could be hooked on!

    The only cost to you would be a few gallons of kerosene, and a $8 shift boot. I had one in similar condition a few years ago and...suprisingly... the gears inside cleaned up very good. Most of the rust is from the cast iron trans case halfs.... the rust hits them firts and...seemiingly...sacrafices itself for the life of the hard steel gears. check out these old pics of mine

    Yeah Craig, it is a cool build. Check that Wheel Horse style drive belt and tensioning pulley. She could use solid front tires.....when the HnM fires, she bounces about two inches.

    I wanted to update my post. I found the problem! It was the wire that goes from the starter solenoid to the ignition switch. It had a break that I couldn't find until I undid all the wiring cover. Runs great now since I went through everything else and cleaned and adjusted. Thanks to all who helped me with suggestions. Mike

    Noobwheel-horseguy I think if going to be a worker Just clean everything so you see if any leaks. Then put on necessary parts on. Then either buff out the paint or you Marvel on to stop the rusting. Buffing will put some shine on it. Again as a worker it is function not looks is what you need. Just my

    You could begin the small repairs like replacing defective wiring and cleaning and tightening anything that needs it now. Presuming you have a warm place to work you could remove some sheet metal for sanding and repainting a little at a time in the winter without making it inoperable. Once the threat of snow is gone remove the painted pieces and sand and paint the rest. That should get it looking like new by spring mowing season.
