I've been watching these 2 horses on our local CL for a couple weeks.Fella had them listed in separate ads.I made a package deal price and got them last night.One is a C-195 that will run only on ether.Has a 48 in SD mower deck and a single stage snowblower with correct lift tube.Not sure if a C-195 ever had a single stage blower,but it was included.Other tractor is a C-105 8 speed that supposedly has a broken connecting rod.Has a poorly patched mower deck.I didn't need these tractors.......I wanted them.I'll check out the fuel delivery problem on the C-195 and probably consider some kind of interesting re-power on the C-105.Enjoy the pics.

Some job training landed me in Baraboo Wisconsin for the week. Just so happens the Badger Steam and Gas show was on. What an awesome show. Very impressed and highly recommended. Low on Wheel Horse, but high on fun.

I don't know how far it is for you to go get the tractor but you should buy it if you like it and want it. That's all there is to it. If it's worth $400 to you, that's all that matters IMO, not what other guys think. You can't go wrong with a whatever model it is! Those guys might be trying to talk you out of it so they can go rustle it for themselves! We're all in this thing for different reasons, but one thing we all share is a love for 'em!

Hello, Just joined the forum and it seems this placeis a wealth of knowledge.... Anyway, I am currently in the middle of a small restoration job on a C 125. The tractor was given to me by my grandpa and he was the only owner. The tractor was in pretty good condition to start with, just a few small problems. Sorry that I dont have any starting pictures but ill try to find some. I'll try to post updates as I progress through this project. Hopefully this post will spark some good discussion. Here are a couple from today, Friday. Cloudy in the AM, but the sun burned thru creating a hot sticky day. Eric's new import.....from Michigan that is. The. Druck family toys. The New Yorkers enjoy lunch. Always good to see the @buckrancher. Had to wake Zeek up from his nap for the photo. I can't be there Sat or Sun, so please feel free to add pics. to the post.

Also check both wheel hubs to see if one of the axles is spinning inside the hub. There are keys in them as well as the input pulley. It only takes one of the three to fail and no drive. Garry

Tap can be defined many ways. Get a puller to take it off, clean up the axle and hub to put it back on. Use never seize so it comes off easy the next time.

WE COULD HAVE HAD A PLOW DAY!!!! Good luck ED. Amish can be great neighbors or a big PITA. A guy I work with has a big clan on his border. They keep cutting down his trees and plowing up his property. He's had the law and lawyers involved but they just act all innocent and as soon as backs are turned the're back at it.

Check the key in the transmission drive pulley. The pulley may be turning, but not the shaft.

Big_Red_Fred, Knowing what I know now and knowing that I actually work my tractors, I like the C-175. BUT.BUTT! Big BUTT! For all the failings and knocks on the Onan powered WH tractors, the C175 has a BIG issue with the Series 1 Kohler. (The Series II is great). Both are points ignition verses electronic sparks. The C175 Auto has an earlier version of the Eaton 11/1100. So a C175 AUTO powered by a Series II Kohler KT17 gives you a very modern tractor comparable to a 520H minus 3 HP and forward assist steering. My Series I runs long in the tooth and forever on flat ground. Amen

I'd say stay local, NY is a terrible place to buy tractors. We have bad roads and big taxes. Down staters don't like horse rustlers. So you need to have to worry about that when you're in state and have out of state plates.

1 week to go on the old job. This is for @WHX12 & @ACman ! 90 + degrees today with the dewpoint over 70! we had a big power outage in the morning and even the transfer switch breakers tripped so even some of the emergency power didn't happen. Nobody is giving the nod to the SK486 you mentioned. Not that it's any better than the other two but there's just something about the models they made to use up leftover stock.

I still like the Onan power. I have both Kohler and Onan. Opposed twin with pressurized lubrication and oil filter is superior. The 520H is king of the hill. After the years pile up, there are going to be issues on any piece of equipment. With the 520H, it's lack of maintenance created problems, 9-pin connector and ground problems. And sometimes things are just plain worn out. Never buy any worker horse without a deck in good condition. Just walk away without the deck, unless you already have a deck.

Thanks Tom for the information, that will provide a good base from which to work. I'm happy to have any information posted here of this tractor further back, if it is known... Thanks also for the pics with the AG's on it, looks nice. I know they aren't original but I like the deeper dish GT 14 rims on it now even more than the correct depth originals, but that is my taste. Tomorrow we will give it to Dad! I'll have a link to a video and pictures here with his reaction.

@PeacemakerJack the tractor actually came from a trade from Lowell, I remember pulling the head, as I always do with a new to me tractor, and found a big ding inside the cylinder wall. I was going to rebuild until I found the same kind of a ding on the crankshaft journal. The current engine was and industrial 10hp Kohler I picked up from and ag service. Was a great runner. Trans was opened up to find some severely worn bevel gears, which I replaced cleaned out the trans and put back together. Ross gear was not in the best of shape, bought one off put in new balls and retaining rings. Engine pulley crankshaft hole was egg shaped with a piece of shim stock trying to fill the gap, found one on a parted out tractor in a little better shape. I had 6.70-15 goodyear ags on it with inside weights which I kept for my 1054. New lift cable. Have pulled a 10" plow to me seemed a little underpowered, also Terry pulled an 8" plow. It is a run tractor to cruise the shows with. Hope your dad enjoys it. Maybe someday we will meet up plowing.

Sparky has a good point . Lately my emphasis has been on clean original one/two owner tractors and I try to buy them right. I know sometime in the near future I'll have to onload them and hopefully for a profit . If the C175 is in the shape they say it's in , that's where I'd put my money . Just my .

I won't tell you what to buy, that's just personal preference. But I will ask...what's your plans for your next tractor purchase? Worker? Restored show machine? Something to putt around shows with? Maybe to flip for a profit? Just want the number of tractors you own to go up by 1? Both those tractors (all tractors actually) have their pro's and con's. Figure out why your buying it and your desision might be easier. Mike....

Well, I know you guys are waiting for the results of todays auction. Here's the bad news....I ran out of cash at 350 and it eventually sold for 477. My pockets just weren't deep enough. I think you all thought I went to buy a tractor, but it was actually the 38 acre farm that adjoins the back border of my property. The good news is it will not be developed and the farm will be worked with horses and mules. This elderly gentleman put down the $477,000 required to outbid the developer. His pockets were pretty deep. Sorry, If I confused anyone, but your clue was , this was not in the tractor forum.

Saw this in my daily CL blast this AM and just thought it interesting & as the ad says check this out! The write up Electric riding mower, WheelHorse model A-60E rear engine rider. Collector item in working condition. Runs, drives, mows and has been used regularly. 36v system uses 3 standard marine batteries. Includes spare 36v motor. Whether you what to minimize your carbon footprint or just like cool stuff, check this out. The pics This would probably make a nice ride around for the Mrs. at tractor shows but the thought of 3 batts @ 100 apiece kinda scares me off. He was asking 200 but might be talked down.

Yes it seems I too am constantly fighting someone in Purchasing, I mean Supply Management , no I mean Supply Chain or whatever their fancy title is this month! that doesn't understand the headaches that comes from combining parts of every color. I mean it's as bad as mixing green, yellow & red parts

I'll bet that Simpson still works fine too. You're right about having more than one. I had several and they were quality meters but even those don't last forever. One by one they started dying. The Southwire from Lowes was the first meter I've purchased in about 30 years. We'll see how long the replacement works. It's one thing to just not work but another to lie to me. At least now I have the freebie from HF to back it up.

I decided to try this and the results were amazing. Being cautious, I took an old seat pan from a 1075 roller. the seat sits directly on the pan and there are deep pits and heavy rust beneath along with paint scratched or worn down to the primer. So, in other words, the patina was from bad to just plain ugly. Here is what i tried, and I would not change a thing. On the deep pitting, I used a Harbor freight flap sanding disc that was very worn just enough to take off the rust that was sticking up above the surface. If i would have had some 100 grit emery cloth, that might have been better. i followed that up with some 220 grit wet sanding and just went for the correct feel as in not really taking too much off, but " i cannot stand to have high spots of rust sticking up through the paint" kind of feel. the rust pits and scratches will still be there, but where the paint is all there, it will be flat. i followed that with 600 grit and used a light touch and plenty of soap in the water to sort of polish the paint further. the paint starts to show its beauty, but that beauty will not show when it dries. To stabilize the rust, I used a rust oxidizer that contained oxalic acid and kept it wet for 5 minutes or so when you could see the bright areas of metal that all the paint was sanded off turn slightly blue. Then rinse the part and apply just a bit to those areas again. After that dried, I found a few black streaks from the oxidizer in the paint and polished them off with 600 sand paper. You will know when the look of the piece suits you. I applied Rustoleum 2X clear to the surface in almost a continuos fashion with a short 2 minute set time. this stuff sets up in a hurry. be careful in high humidity, as a white bloom can cloud the finish. I think that celebrating the battle scars is great on some of your herd. The 2X clear coat is UV stabilized so hopefully, it will last. You can sand the blems off the next day and buff [maybe a few days later] or leave it alone. you can actually handle the piece in an hour and it feels dry, but it is still gassing out a bunch of odor. i plan to take it a step farther. I did get a little white bloom on one spot, so I will sand it enough to flatten it a little and then hit it with a higher grade of clear so as to deepen the finish and clarity and then not go too far with the buffing. Then it should really look like an oiled finish The first two pictures are half the pan sanded and half original. the next pictire is rust converter. I then took a bit of black Rusteoleum and wiped it on the really rough stuff and wiped most of it off with thinner. The last two are with the clear on and not yet sanded. That is where I am right now, about 2-3 hours shop time.. Remember this is just an experiment and I would let a real project dry longer . This all got done in 8 hours total including dry times.Thanks to cshannuth for giving me the motivation to try this

It will be a change from the Green machines that are faming it now. My fear is the right of way to the small wood lot on the right that I have maintained for nearly 50 years may be closed if they manage to buy that plot also. The R O W has provided a nice grassy walking path for all the neighbors. Footwear is not too high on their priority list Jim. These are the three men I have photos of on my trail cameras. The farm is enrolled in the Clean and Green but not the Preservation. Although the Farm is zoned agriculture, three building lots can be sold and if desired, it can by removed from the C & G program by paying back tax breaks for 5 years. Definitely my second choice if I can't own it Jeff. Right Richard, and my four Grandsons college fund is still intact. This farm will probably become a produce garden. 38 acres is not enough to support a dairy or beef operation. Free sweet corn and strawberries for Ed? So true Jim, He didn't hesitate one bit as the bidding went over $400K. I am sure he was ready to plunk down a half Mill.

I'm a newbie here. Just a Wheel Horse lover who grew up with one when my dad purchased a 665 when I was five years old and now have a Sole 520-H. I ran across an interesting auction and posted it in the classified section here in Red Square. Stupid me read the rules and regulations after posting and, well, it was flagged and pulled off the site for posting an auction in the classified section. My Bad... I'm waiting for the judgement and sentencing to be handed down to me by the Red Square officials. But in the meantime, anybody interested in attending a very interesting auction with over 80 Wheel Horse tractors up for grabs, it's coming Sept 15th and 16th. Multiples of just about every model made by Wheel Horse and Toro up for auction. A gentleman who was a MAJOR avid collector for many years has passed and the family has put his collection up for auction. There will be many implements, parts, whole tractors as well as partial tractor assemblies. There will me more than 300 garden tractors in all with brand names we all grew up with like Bolens, Simplicity, Cub Cadet, JD, Massey Ferguson, Ford, Allis Chalmers, Case, Troy Built, Gravely and others as wells as some very rare tractors including a Pennsylvania Meteor. For the record, I'm not connected to this auction in any way, shape or form. I'm just a Wheel Horse lover trying to help other Wheel Horse lovers with a really nice tip. I will post more on the subject later. Maybe, we should all get together and ask Red Square to grant permission to post Auctions. Maybe there's a place to do this that I'm not aware of. Hi All, As for using a VOM meter, you will notice I had said in my posts to check for 12volts. Not to use a test light. I didn't want to go too far with checking resistance as not everyone knows how to use a VOM meter for resistance and continuity. Most important tool necessary when diagnosing electrical problems. Both my sons have them in their tool boxes curtesy of Santa. A couple stories here... - When I was working on the bench, Ford had a run of bad battery cables that would show up after a few years. After I left the trade I had one go in my fairly new F150. Acted like a bad starter, but it was the end of the cable at the starter. I've also seen many, where a cable looks perfectly fine, but the cable has lost contact inside the lead connector. - A few weeks ago I was stopping at a job site on the way to work to fix a door lock and only had a few hand tools with me. Checked the handicap door operator that had been installed the day before by another person. An emergency light wasn't working. Great, no VOM meter with me to diagnose the problem. Felt lost without it. Checked the connections, fixed a loose wire, but didn't fix the problem. Had to call the installer back to figure out what was wrong. Can't underestimate the need for the correct tools. Let's be honest, a VOM meter isn't expensive. Every tool box should have one. You don't need a $500 "Fluke" to diagnose most electrical problems. If you don't know how to use it, your buddy helping you might. So have one on hand and he will teach you.

Jim you know you want it I know I do ... you just laid out how much $ on a truck don't let three batteries hold you back . My trackchair batteries are going on 6yrs old and still going strong . Deep cycle gels are the best but some good maintenance free will work fine. Break them in right and then keep them charged and you can get years of service out of them .
