I made the 6 hour round trip to Somerset Co. Pa this weekend to pick up supplies in case Stella has me snowed in for a week. My favorite Nephew makes the best cabin fever medication available. One Strawberry and one Peach flavored 185 proof. It also happened to be my Mothers 91st birthday party. With her Great, and Great, Great Grand Daughters. This trip also takes me thru Adams Country apple country. Look familiar ?

Awhile ago I started converting an old boat trailer into a hauling trailer. With permission after hours I was able to take down to the shop and get some more done this weekend. Still have a way to go yet. Have to have a trailer when a needs a "new" home.

Well guys after making the move to Tennessee, buying the house and working a lot I had no time to get on the internet for while. Now I'm getting so I have more time and have been looking to grow my wheel horse collection back up a little. They are way harder to find down here but I did find this 520-H when the guy contacted me about maybe buying his John Deere 317. The 520 needs restored but overall not worst I've seen and he mentioned scrapping it so for $100 he is bringing it to my house. Here are a few pics for now should have more this weekend. BTW I did pick up a nice cub cadet 108 with 48 inch deck to help mow my huge yard(don't hate to much!)

The clip will be 3/4" as they are sized by the shaft size. Actual ID will be smaller. They are a stamped ring so one side has rounded edges and the other side has sharp edges. In this case install with the rounded side against the wheel. With the groove in the axle cleaned up the sharp edge has more holding ability to keep the wheel on. If that horse runs, it is worth $400 all day long. I don't know if I would even insult the guy by offering a lousy $50 less. I imagine the deck comes with the deal?? Sometimes, even on American Pickers...the price is fair and you shake hands.

http://www.farmshow.com/a_article.php?aid=14042 > This may have been posted before but check out the crazy Wheel Horse tractors from this old Farm Show. "This group of 10 Wheel Horse tractors, put together by Ohio resident Charlie Melton, is one of the most unusual tractor collections we’ve ever seen. Every one of the tractors has received a radical “makeover”. “I like to recycle things and enjoy the challenge of making something different without spending a lot of money,” says Melton. “I buy Wheel Horse tractors in junked-out condition so I get them cheap. I put new engines in them and usually new tires, too, and paint them with the original Wheel Horse red and white colors. All the tractors in my collection were originally built in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. The manufacturer kept the same grille for all those years so all my tractors have a common look.” Melton credits David Cross of Bainbridge, Ohio, for supplying him with Wheel Horses. Contact: FARM SHOW Followup, Charlie Melton, 6941 Eyman Rd., Washington Court House, Ohio 43160. Thanks to photographer Gail Streitenberger for supplying most of the photos." 24_6_23.pdf

Take the E clip off of the other side and the dust cap too if it's there. Take them to a Napa store or a good hardware store to match them up

I didn't Aldon ...way out of my comfort range, took it here http://www.wegnerautomotive.com I do his HVAC work and he did it for me. He's got equipment you wouldn't believe to build his race motors. Laser measuring stuff & the whole nine yards. CNC machines that boggle the mind! Lucky to have a place like that near me. He can turn & grind cranks too. Just dropped it off went on some more service calls, came back a couple hours later and done. Cost me a case of air filters. All I had to do is cut the bushings out of stock with a simple tubing cutter and press them in. Nice thing about the bushings is they are soft so will wear & wallow but then just punch them out and put in new.

Got bored waiting on a part for the Suburban to come back from the shop so....... I have a 68 Raider waiting to get restored ( I had to use it twice last year when the Cub, the everyday mower, was in the shop) so I brought the deck in for a cleanup. Took everything down to bare metal. Replaced the belts and a couple of other items. Unfortunately the Suburban part is still in the shop and the Miss's snagged me to put a new ceiling in the downstairs kitchen.

Adjusting the governor just syncs the governor to the carb throttle position. Top rpm is limited by the amount the throttle cable travels. This will be before the governor spring that is between the throttle cable and the governor arm. Garry

It's part no. 114343, about $67 from Parts Tree. Researching this and finding a similar thread from 2013 here gave the same part as Cleat showed above. You can buy it at Advance Auto parts for about $13. http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/strong-arm-lift-support-f4673/19940007-p?searchTerm=f4673&showTitle=&vehicleIdSearch=-1&isAllVehicle=true&vehicleIdFromReq=-1

Oh you guys don't miss a thing! Method to my madness....I Just grabbed whateverI square at hand.... I was using that to square the front end up to the frame, the measurement device is not in the picture, and check the alignment and pin/plate slop. New pin/plate did not help Dan @achto , bout 3/16 to almost .25 slop, but line boring the axle pivot to 1 inch and pressing in bronze 1x3/4 bushes brought in to a 1/16 with the new pin plate. Front end is now tighter than a nun's ......never mine tell you in private my bad no pics

So many times we see products change / cheapen up for the sake of making money. Most of my experience in this area was persons ruling a world they don't live in. I am sure Toro engineering would rather see the company make slightly less money in place of being known for failures. On the other hand, purchasing and accounting, (the folks that don't live in the real world), most are very naïve to where the rubber meets the road. One memory that stands out was the great oil and lubrication sourcing switch-a-rue. Over the years we migrated to new and better oils working with our supplier at the ground level. I received an email from purchasing saying within 30 days we were switching vendors, due to cost savings, and there should be no problems. The vendor reviewed the items we use and all the new products would be an exact match. Not true. After about six weeks we began to see temperature increases in critical gear case trends. Investigation shown the new gear oils were a semi synthetic and the previous oil was a full synthetic. Not to mention, all the containers used were black. Our old vendor color coded the lids to reduce using the wrong oils. When it washed out, the cost was actually higher for the correct oils and can identification. Yeah baby now that is saving money!

Here's one with them all mounted up . He said they mounted up pretty easy . He used the old rear tubes put them in the new fronts blew them up and placed them by the wood stove . The rears were filled with RimGuard and he charged me $85 for everything , so that brings my total to $235 . Not to bad for four 4ply tires mounted and rears filled . Now to to get my new seat mounted with the new slides.

Finished SS decks were just as heavy as CRS (cold rolled steel). Copied and formed (press brakes) the deck as close as possible. Parts were TIG welded together as required. Most of the decks, 16 gauge 316 SS however, some parts were heavier; i.e.: wheel supports. 1/4" SS. Wheel axles, 316 SS rod. Machined parts were made in our machine shop. SS isn't going to crack. SS is corrosion resistant. Parts were formed on press brakes. Holes punched on presses; NC (numerical control). I might ad, I was the foreman is a large shop manufacturing corrosion resistant chemical tanks; titanium, hastelloy, stainless steel. Thought titanium (?) but the light material tends to crack along formed lines. Before becoming the foreman, I was the prototype layout man. Local WH dealer said, "Wow!" after seeing my Horses. I felt like Johnny Cash!
