JimD gave me a call this afternoon. It was excellent talking with him. He is still in a care facility doing rehab for his arm that was broke. He is thinking that he will be home sometime next week. That will make it about 6 weeks since, cents, sense he had the fall. It did not take long until he sounded tired on the phone...sounds like he has been through a real rough stretch. Let's keep him in our prayers. Hope he can come in and post here next week.

It's my fault. I took off my snow blade to plow the neighbors garden last week. Sorry.

60 degrees here yesterday...then, woke up to this here today... and a is Nor'easter predicted for this coming Tuesday. Time change happens this weekend, so here's hoping this is the old man's last gasp.

Some questions to expect from a typical CL add response caller on this ad: Will it power a 60" deck? Do you think it has enough power to run a tiller? Do you think a standard long frame front blade will fit? Should I use chains? Does it smoke? Will you take $100?

If I paid $250 for it, I surely would not work it as they are not made anymore. They are built well however. For $250, you can get a decent fat-tired trailer from a store that could haul a bit more and I wouldnt mind destroying it with yardwork. Once you wear out that old tub cart, there is no replacing it... Just my $0.02!

I totally agree with the FISH. IMO, the C series was the best tractors WH made. The C-101 would be a great economical mower. The only problem I have with mine, I don't like to get it dirty.

That gives me an idea why not take those weathered plastic caps and paint them Dupli-color wheel argent silver, BTW not much on the red in a sea of red but on the flip side I think you did an excellent job none the less from what I can see nothing on the chrome emblem, Jeff. Also the ring around the emblem painted/striped black might just make those red caps really pop ...

https://www.mcmaster.com/#3310t65/=16p2r2j Mc Master Carr unistrut channel. I have made a lot of U channel and angle iron pieces from square tubing I scavenge from old unwanted weight machines. The owners practically pay you to haul them away. The weights also come in handy . I like the second positive seat lock idea...very important safety item.

I picked up a Electro 12 awhile back that had an original Red Wheel Horse filter 5990 (Doesn't speak well of the POs maintenance.) Here are some pictures . I do not know who makes the toro filters and I would imagine over time they have changed suppliers. they also look to the lowest bidder I would guess. Consider how long they are using one filter 79-5270 to replace two older numbers on on different systems (Sundstrand/Eaton) some with ATF some with motor oil. Part of that is probably about simplifying their supply chain.

Isn't the wife always right? Even if she isn't? In this case, find real hub caps. Use the plastic for frisbe tournaments?

Your question about WOT applies to the engine, not necessarily the manual or Automatic trans. You should keep the engine at least 3/4 throttle to keep adequate cooling air flow, as well as to splash the crankcase oil for engine lube. Sure, it is ok to let it idle for a short while, but not for hours on end. In conjunction with that, occasionally pull the engine sheet metal to clear any debris that would impede the air flow. IMHO... The C-160 Automatics with hyd lift are the best from Wheelhorse...hand down. Effortless to lift ANY attachment and, if you have lots of roots, sidewalks, or other obstructions, the deck just lifts up with a finger pull...strong left arm pull not needed. I also like the C-160 auto for maneuverability around all the little trees, shrubs, clothes lines, etc that everybody has. Just move the motion lever back and forth to wiggle around anything.

I just said in my last post I didn't have room for any more tractors because my wife wouldn't have room to park her car in the garage. She's parking in the driveway now. I was searching craigs list Sunday and seen a post for a 314-8 for 200.00 it was 40 miles from me and I said to myself I can't do it. So I called him and said $200.00 and he said yep it's in storage , and I said where. Went and picked it up and it turns out to be a 2000 314-8 with a great 48" deck. It had 3 flat tires ,dirty carb, never been greased , dirty oil. So I changed oil with new filter, greased cleaned and cleaned carb, charged battery, inflated tires which I will replace all the tires. Put gas in tank and started it up . A little miss so I checked plug and it was loose . What do you think I told the wife ?? Honey it's my hobby that I love to do and she didn't say anything else.man I love that woman.

Yes I had a simplicity broadmoor with a twin Briggs and it ran well. Hopefully the trans is good if the engine is shot I could swap another in. I plan on a restoration for work. Meaning, clean it, get it running and operating reliable and strong and some paint. Seat too. I really like the look of the work horses so I'm stoked to find this. Looks like the wider wheels too

The boy just won his 4th state championship title last Sunday. He just turned 10 and is really a good kid. He and I are done for the season and going to get back to our tractor hobby together.

Since winter seems to want to linger a lot longer than I'd like, I'm back to preparing everything so I can proceed at a quicker clip once the weather turns for the better. Came home last night to my new rear tires. Rim blanks and Front Vredstein's are on the way too.

Right click the image and "save image as" to your PC Click on your screen name--(upper right) Then click "settings" In the left column you will see "signature" click that Drag & drop the saved image. And there you can add other stuff to your signature. Might be an easier quicker way but that will work

Here in central Connecticut we ended up with 2-3 inches today, none of it stuck to my driveway so no seat time. But the weather guys are saying something big is headed our way with the possibility of 12" of the white stuff on Tuesday-Wednesday. Really not looking forward to anymore snow! Mike.....

Think I would cut the hood off at the stack and lower it down to the frame. Let that power plant stick up above the hood. The Low Rider would need a overdose of steroids to run with that big dog Jim. Will you be bringing it to the show Richard?

I do admit I do use mine for yard work but nothing heavy, leaves & small dead fall only. Get a POS big box one to beat the crap out of. 250 might be a little high but they are getting scarcer.

I was thinking to use the solid unistrut with holes drilled in the sides to match the seat bolt pattern. But your idea of using the slotted bar w/ T-slot nuts would give you infinite seat adjustment.

I used two pieces of unistrut from McMaster Carr to extend and raise the seat on my 520. If your seat has a front flip mount, make sure the seat lock is working so Uncle doesn't do a back flip.

My friend Roger Parmley in Greencastle has a lift piece that was made by Wheel Horse for tractors used in the Indianapolis 500 years ago. This lift will raise the front or back axles on Wheel Horse tractors and it is very neat. It came from a Wheel Horse dealer in Central Indiana! I am liking that 854 quite a bit !

You're on the right track. Yes, a 604 is a 1964 and the 3523 gear is you're problem. Check the input gear too. With the inner teeth of the 3523 gear being ground down there wear on it as well but it likely will be fine. Post some pictures and we'll check it out for you. Somebody here will probably have one they will sell you so don't be a stranger.

I get why Elliot went with red, WH colors of course, but most paint their wheel weights red, so why not the wheel covers? and as long he is happy with them then that's all that really matters and kudos to him and his creativity and job well done.

There is no doubt that the overall organization and control of this forum is nothing short of outstanding and one would not realize that if we did not belong to other forums. It is all a part of the constant work vigilance and vision of the Administrators and Moderators and it is very much appreciated. We have however to also give credit to the membership for much of it. Even though there are instances where Moderators have to step in to stop occasional squabbles fortunately those are few and far in between, usually caused by seemingly harmless inoffensive comments that same take exception to. Some of us are more sensitive than others. I found however in all the years I have been a member that here is a different type of crowd. With all of the respect to our younger members, a vast majority of members here are well "seasoned" individuals full of wisdom that only comes from that "seasoning" and a lifetime of learning many different skills and values. And don't underestimate the "values" part of it. One does not have to browse through too many of the posts to immediately come across comments to indicate that we have a lot of good human beings here. I think and hope that it is contagious. A big difference to other forums, I found that it is also the willingness and easiness with which knowledge is shared. That is and should be the purpose of any forum, and not a place to just show off your stuff or worst criticize others. Knowledge is not ours, we are only the caretakers of it while we are in this world, and it is our obligation to take care of it, improve on it, and ensure that it is passed on. Hoarding of it creates self serving dangerous individuals. There is also a willingness to learn and help. Being able to accept being corrected is just as important as sharing information. A great contributing factor is also that because of the yearly show, so many of us know each other .We know their families and in many cases over the years watched little children with tractors that are now adults. Lastly I am still convinced that there is something to these little red tractors that bring out the best in all of us.
