I just wanted to let everyone know that the forum is lucky to have members like Racinbob . Bob was kind enough to send me a set screw I needed for my Suburban transmission. Unfortunately the first one was torn out of the envelope, but he sent me second after he found out. I just got it today on my birthday no less! People like him is what is and will continue to make this a great forum. I hope to one day pay it forward to someone here when I can. Have a great day all.

Humbling, embarrassing………heck, I don’t know the right words. One of my greatest pleasures in life is to help people out in whatever way I can. A simple and sincere thank you is always more than enough in return and Chris, you have done that with an explanation point. But l must say that what I do is pales by what people have done for me. I won’t even try to list the names because I know I’d forget someone. But you all know who you are so know the appreciation I have. I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again. There’s truly something special about the people who have a passion for these little red tractors. There’s no place that represents that better than this site and what makes this site is the members. So….all the kind words need to go to all the members here and I thank you all.

Well the weather was perfect and the show was busy. I got to take some pictures but for the most part I spent the first part of the morning buying the gt14 and then the other half trying to figure out how I was going to load/unload it when I did het it. Walking along there were some neat things here and there. Just some of what we saw is here. Some red, some yellow and yes, some green. And then there is that gold, green and blue thing I bought. Had a good time. And my treasure

Well I can't say that this is the best forum since I'm not certain that I've been on all the forums but I can say that I've been on several and this is where I've chosen to spend most of my time! Bob is certainly one of the reasons I feel this way!

Yes, Bob is a great guy. I live close enough to where I have got to meet him and we have been able talk horses and help each other out. He went out of his way last year at the Big Show for me and brought me back a bunch of parts and had something special made for me. And, he knows his Wheel Horses. I would not hesitate to deal with Bob. Great asset here on this forum.

Hi friends good to talk to you all. Today I brought home what I think to be a C 121 today, and wow the amount of "cheap" fixing is staggering. I will explan some but I also have pics don't worry. First pic there are two key switches in the dash and neither work the gentleman had a piece of wire to jump from battery to starter you can see it hanging on the pto lever. The second pic will show two different size tires on the front with mismatch rims. The double muffler speaks for itself, well the list goes on and on i will show you all the pics and let you have fun spotting all the great engineering don't be shy pick it apart. With that said the motor runs like a Swiss watch and the transmission works goog.

i am looking for 4-19 part number 101696. The inside where the axle goes through is a bit chewed up where it twisted. i second guessed trying to smooth it up but i'd much rather have new/like new. i'm not positive how much it would mess with the tolerances. thank you! @daveoman1966

Welcome to red square. Take a deep breath this will be a bit of a project. The catastrophic failure in the transaxle will probably have damaged the hydro system that drives the tractor. the FEL an most likely the back hoe run off a separate system. There is a manula here to show you how to rebuild the hydro unit and transaxle. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/category/24-automatic-hydro/ There are also some how to vids .threads here http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/forum/144-transmissions/ You will probably be looking at a fairly major project but the end result should be great

So I am new to the wheelhorse game, however I stumbled upon a D160 with a loader and backhoe that I couldn't pass up. After just a few dollars spent I got it running. all hydraulics work, but the tractor wouldn't move. Found axle shaft broken on the drivers side. Dropped the backhoe off and dropped the transmission. Split the case and found all the carnage... 2 needle bearings fell apart, a differential bolt was sheared off in two places. The half of the differential where the axle shaft broke off in was pretty tore up. Finding parts is my biggest issue so far. I've found the axle seals and needle bearings, however the differential seems more difficult. Is there any place anyone is getting parts from that I'm missing? Any help is appreciated. Pictures to follow! jeff

I have used: Rustoleum Rusty metal Primer Corroless (was sold by Eastwood years ago Eastwood rust convrter Eastwood rust encapsulator POR 15 None of them worked very well over time. Edit; I should add that for prep work i have used pressure washer, Sanding discs, Needle scaler, wire brushes on a angle grinder, and sand blasting.

First, you justify the addiction. With me, it was having rental properties here and there and just wanting to have a basic mower at each location. i bought a raider 10 and the soothing thump of the Cast iron Kohler reminded me of mowing with the 1963 Cadet as a child. My newer Horse is now at the rental and the raider is what I use at home. Then you buy another one just to get some parts for the first one because it is cheaper that way. Then you get another to make Two good Horses out of three. Now you are short on decks, so you find two that you can tinker on and use and that little short hood is thrown in the two deck deal for an additional $25. So then you think that little short hood Hydro 1075 will never mow because of no mower mounts or pulleys and no engine. Then you think, sure would be nice to have a purpose built sprayer and out comes the $99.00 Harbor Freight engine. i am now building the front mount sprayer that will quickly detach so the tractor can be a wagon puller as well. i mean, it is not your fault that the hydro still works when all you bought that [roller] tractor for was the nice wheels---or is it?? When you start finding extra things to do for the spare ones you buy,you are gone and might as well admit it.................

I hose under the deck, after each mowing, to remove most of the buildup. When I remove the deck in the fall, I scrape off any significant buildup and spray it with Fluid Film. The Fluid Film will penetrate around the spindles and fasteners making service easier and protecting them as well. I gave up on any type of coating because there will be areas that nothing will hold up.

Emission constraints didn't kill Onan by themselves. Onan could not produce EPA approved engines as cheaply as foreign competitors. Eventually they could not compete and dropped the small engine lines. The EPA is partly to blame, but those of US that went for cheaper alternatives shoulder some responsibilty as well. Rant finished! :)

Bob is one of the best. Gonna miss him at the show this year. Not wanting to turn this into a brand bashing thread but: I like everything IH That is except their owners. We have a big IH club right where I live as well as a JD club. Every show around here I have trouble with these guys. I get there claim a spot and an hour later I'm asked to move or my stuff is moved for me! The IH club needs the room. The JD guys invite me to park my little red tractors with their green ones!

Well, I changed my tune! The Kohler's are easier to work on. I've learned a lot from this site in the last 5 years. I thought the Onan's were to complicated 5 years ago. Now I have 5......I'm embarrassed.....I need help!

That's what I woulda thought Tom but it's loose as a goose in there. May try a RJ style type clamp till it rusts in! Or get some plow weight on it like Dan says. Go out and whack it good with the business end of a ball peen @Aldon....that will let us know if it will hold up against wheel weight & hubcap scratches.......and

I have a 1972 Bronco 14 and on it is a 48" side deck from the mid 80's. It isn't rusted at all, and I mow with it every weekend thru the summers, as I have done since I put the deck on....in the late 80s or so. The trick.... I made a stainless steel liner shell for it. Using two cardboard cutouts as template of the deck (1) shell and (2) apron, used the templates to transfer and cut out stainless steel sheet metal to same size and shape(s). After heating and shape-pounding the shell template into the general shape, bolted it down to the inside of the deck shell, then tig-welded the front apron to the shell plate. The ss isn't very thick...probably 1/32" and it was easy to work with and drill. Kinda hard on sawzall blades, but go t the job done. The grass doesn't stick to it much and is very easy to scrape off, but that's not even needed...just when I shapren blades. This has been working for me for 25 years or so....no rust at all. ps...A tool and die shop did the mig welf foir me... I'm a bean-counter.

This is the last update and where I'm at now. I recently found the holy grail on eBay, electric lift kit. Guy was selling a non running 417-8. I messaged him and said I'd be interested in the lift and front wheels if he didn't sell it and wanted to part it out. About a week later he was tearing it apart. Also had inside rear weights I got. They are about 25lbs each. Not sure if they are wheel horse parts, did wheel horse offer these? I am in the process of painting this stuff now, along with the engine tins. I took the actuator apart (forgot to take pictures) and greased everything real good. I can't believe how heavy duty this thing is made.

Also did the 8" wheel upgrade. Originally I did this to get more clearance with the blade. I didn't realize until yesterday the spindles are different for the larger wheels and the front stays the same height. I think I'm going to leave it as is because I really need the clearance. I am selling the 6" wheels if anyone is interested. Tires and repaint are only a year old.

Found the culprit. An intermittently bad clamp connector. Kinda wet but I took it for a spin. Next step......the loader! My wife keep telling me I have a Wheel Horse problem...I contend I have a too small of a shop problem....

The whole weekend to myself for a change, well almost, but did mange to get a few things done on this project. If I would get off my keester and get some rear rubber ordered would have a roller! Fitting the dash housing up. Plan on polishing the dash, no paint just clearcoat. Saw another tractor that was done like that and was kinda cool so see how it looks. Can always paint it down the road if it doesn't look right. It was in the cards that these rims get finished.....52 pickup anyone... @achto says you get a better finish if you use all RED cards!

Hi; my name is Dick and I AM a Horse-A Holic! I had my last seat time yesterday and probably WILL have some more tomorrow.

More progress. My hitch was bent down pretty far so I bent it back and strengthened it up. Also added a plate to spread the weight out on the under side of the tranny the tank on on my little 8 horse Kohler is on the engine so I had to get one off a 310 on eBay. Also found a seat bracket with the springs and adjuster. Got a new shock at autozone.

No luck on finding that battery trick thread maybe @gwest_ca can chime in as he had some input on it. Basically it was using a battery or charger to arc across stubborn fasteners to help loosen them. I have never tried it ...yet!
