Dear Lord, slim67 will be undergoing delicate spinal surgery tomorrow morning. Please guide the surgeon's hands to be steady and effective to do the task at hand, and not create any further damage We pray against any infection or complications. Calm the heart of his family. Give slim67 your peace so his body can heal under the best conditions. In the name of Jesus, bless slim67 to be healthier after this procedure than before. Lord allow this temporary trial to bring this family closer to you and each other. When he is coming out of surgery, let the side effects be minimal. Work a miracle in this whole situation and bless it from beginning to end. Thank you Lord for your blessing on this family. We praise you as we know we are in good hands- the very hands of God. In Jesus name, we thank you for each day. Amen.

A Tecumseh with no electric start is a whole new kind of workout!! But it was very much worth the pain after I got everything dialed in. Today, I took a trip to check out a tractor I've been eyeing for a bit. I had some interest, mostly because of the front weights on the tractor, but was more put off by my experience with an HH60 on a 656 in the past (Which still doesn't run right ) and thought to myself, "There's no possible way I'd buy an HH60 with NO ELECTRIC START." But after continually looking at it from time to time, and the price being just right, I figured why not, I'll give it a shot. So I sent the guy a message, and he said he had it running in the summer, but not since then. So I brought a spark tester with me, and made sure that the tractor had spark before I bought it, which it did, thank god, and I brought it home! Once I got it home, I took it off the truck, and tried to start it by putting another tractor in front of it and connecting them with a belt with a flip in it to turn the motor in the right direction, but for the first time ever, that had failed me! Just wasn't working for me, So I had to do it, To the dreaded pull start. 3rd pull I got a putt, and a few putts in the next couple pulls. Then she started, but seemed to rev really high, So I kept playing with the throttle until it seemed okay. Tractor idled okay, but didn't want to run at higher speed well, I stalled it a bunch of times attempting to drive it around, so I pulled apart the carb, cleaned it, put some new parts in that I had laying around, and made some adjustments, and she purrs wonderfully. She uses some oil, but for a 51 year old tractor, I'm not complaining. The tractor is all original except for the seat and I think the carb, muffler and gas tank may be changed, but tough to tell, and the rims may have been painted due to some super light white over spray on the whole tractor, but the red is all original, that's for sure. I'm assuming it has been garaged its entire life because she really is a nice one. Really surprised me, a good running techy!! Who'd a thought of that! If any of you could possibly give me some pointers on how to get one of these old recoil starters to recoil better, I would really appreciate it! This one was starting to get sticky near the end of its tests, haha. and Without further adeiu, I present to you, Pictures. And a video!

I have been finding lots of great people and info since being here and have decided to take the plunge and become a supporter. I dont think for the price you could be a part of such a great forum anywhere else. Its certainly worth it to me. Now is someone going to administer on oath or buy me a coffee or something? Thanks for having me.

Thanks so much 953. That is the nicest thing anyone has done for me in a long time. I have a rough two years with some ups and downs like everyone else. I lost my son to heroin 16 months ago about a month before his 22nd birthday. I used to be into building up golf carts along with my interest in tractors. When he died I sold anything related to golf carts because I did it for him and wanted to forget. Anyways God has a plan for everyone on this planet and mine is to continue living my life and taking care of my wife and daughter as best as I can. Amen

It's kind of tight getting to the lower steering assy. front mount but just lean the hood forward and break them loose with a 9/16" wrench then use a socket on the back. Youll have to move the tie rod mount plate out of the way for each bolt. New lower steering assy installed. Hangs a couple of inches lower and it's a bit wider. But as I said, could be fabricated if you can't find one. Front view of the tie rod mount plate. A little dirty under... smh. You can see the slight backward angle of the lower portion of the plate. Wouldn't be that hard to tack it in place and then adjust the angle from photos and eye ball it. It's not a high performance vehicle or anything. Post install of the Axle, spindles, pin and plate assy and all hardware. It was all greased well while still up on in the air as advised before. I highly suggest doing this to get the grease into the needed friction points that you won't get to if you front end is on the ground when you grease it. And Finally the Rims. Bearings all packed and nuts locked in with hubs on. Will most likely will change these over to trailer hubs and rims in the future as I'm considering a FEL for this tractor with the addition of a 2-3 cylinder diesel IF I can find one for the right price and condition. Like I said... Still need the tie rod nut washers as the nuts bottom out on the threads. Probably pick those up locally tomorrow if I can. Here is my first welding project that I completed last week. It's the extension kit to go along with this whole project. Got the blade for $30 from a local hoarder. Good guy though. Great deal. Got the entire front and assy and the blade for $300. Had the frame with a old rusty 48" blade that I bent after catching a 1" raised driveway of a neighbors a month or so ago. Here is the blade. I decided to put a new wear bar made of 3/8" x 4" Steel. This should give the plow some arse to scrap well. Don't worry, I shortened it to 42.5". I drilled the holes and used to new carriage bolts for a smooth finish on that too. Shot is with the old FE.

@gcole The one in Lawn & Tractor Collector magazine belongs to my wife. It is a 1970 S-14. The one in your photo is a "newer" model, as the headlights were made into the hood. Our Gilson headlights are mounted on the side of the hood and look like "Mickey Mouse" ears! Our data plate was on the right hand side of the frame. If you find the plate and numbers, a Gilson site will help to "de-code" it. Try here: http://gardentractortalk.com/forums/files/category/42-gilson-wards/

Started tearing down the 701 this evening. My goal is to have her up and running in time for the 4th of July parade here in out little town. One question I do have is with the engine, been strongly considering a Predator swap as this little tractor is only going to be used for show and parades. Has anyone ever done this swap on a round hood. Curious as if the engine will clear the hood. Looking at the pictures it almost looks as though the air breather and carb stick out too far for the hood to clear them. Will post more pics as I get farther along.

Gave bendy a workout today, got bogged to the axles a few times and if it wasn't for lots of lock to lock on the steering it wouldn't have made the slope. Gave me a good excuse to hose her down

btw, you did register, right? You did (or will) register in that 7 month window, right??? You are required to do that by law........3 months prior to your birth month, your birth month, and 3 months following you birth month, or you get penalized. The penalty is a 10% per year increase in your Part B contribution if you fail to register within that 7 month window of your birth month. Don't ask me how I know this.

I had lamonectomy (L5-S1), anbout 10 years ago. You'll be ok if you listen to your doctor and your back. It'll let you know when it doesn't like something. Like said previously, just start to do things differently, and don't be too proud to ask for help. My buddy had fusion four weeks ago. He's up and about, cleared to drive, and looks great. Very commonplace now-a-days. Best of luck to you.

Most loaders are built about the same for all tractors. A "sub-frame" mount system must be made for a specific machine. You also have to have the pump and have a way to mount it to a specific tractor.

ohhh, gotcha haha, im not a techy guy, but i try to be haha. so far im 50/50 with them

Regardless of whether that cab was specifically made to fit a tractor... if dimensionally, it's even close to fitting your tractor... I'd be bringing that one home...hard cabs on our tractors are seen few and far between.

While looking through CL last month, I spotted an ad for an interesting tiller only an hour away. I recognized the brand and was pleasantly surprised with the photos. It wasn't just a tiller, it was a United Farm Tools "Mountaineer" with the tiller attachment. The deal was actually made three weeks ago but weather, trips to the hospital (not me!), etc. prolonged the event. There were only about 1,300 tractors manufactured by the L&G division of UFT in Charleston, West Virginia. The Mountaineer was designed by former Gravely employees and corrected some of the engineering idiosyncrasies of the Gravely. It has eight forward ground speeds and four reverse. The powertrain can be disconnected which eliminated Gravely creep plus it has headlights among other improvements. They used Kohler 8 and 12 hp K-series engines. A number of attachments were produced including a three blade 40" mower deck. The interesting part is that the mounting was identical to the Gravely so powered attachments could be interchanged between the brands. This is an 88E with an electric start K-181S. The serial tag is missing but I dated the engine to 1980. It currently doesn't run plus has two flat tires. It made for an interesting move. The starting point had a forklift whereupon it slipped off and tumbled onto its side in the dirt. Didn't want to record that poo-poo, but there was no damage. Then when I got it to the house, I needed to utilize "Cisco" with the HF crane along with Scott's and Tom's receiver hitch plus crane adapter. (The tractor weighs 445 pounds so that speaks well for the hitch and adapter!) It actually went a lot better than I had expected on my end. I lowered it onto HF car dollies after lifting it out of the trailer until I can get to the tires. The weather also cooperated with 72 degrees on December 1st! The tractor is in surprisingly good shape externally. The colors look like a Kubota-orange with medium dark metallic blue. Hopefully it was something minor that sidelined it as parts for the tractor portion will be next to nil on availability. I never thought that I would see one due to being unique yet alone own one. It will probably be a project next year as there are three tractors ahead of it right now. Here is a brochure: http://gravelymanuals.com/pdf/Mountaineer_Tractor_And_Attachments.pdf

This is what you call splitting hairs, but the generic replacement for the 6449 seal is supposed to be a CR-11124. This is a double lip Nitrile seal, 1.125 ID x 1.624 OD x 0,25". The National 471652 is 1.125 ID x 1.628 OD x 0.25" seal. I'm not saying that 0.004 OD difference is going to be a problem, but I think I would try using the CR-11124 next time. Try setting the seal a little deeper, slightly below the surface of the housing. If it still leaks, and you don't have any up.down play, then you may have a worn axle that just won't seal. ...and do what Ed said.
