Sooo. I'm trying to work on a transmission. Son says I'm getting to old to haul mulch by hand come spring. Me. Whatever! Two hours later and scrap laying around, he came up with this. Don't even have to get off tractor to hook up! What a guy!! Thanks buddy!!

About a year ago I bought an 18hp Kohler Command and I had a raider 12 that needed an engine so I put the two together and the thing is a beast. Well the 18hp never ran like it did from the factory, just wasn't quite right. And trust me I did everything to it and nothing fixed it. Well about 2 weeks ago I got a new 27hp Kohler Command for $250! Was defective from the factory and wouldn't run. So I decided the 27hp would be a good swap for the 18hp. So I did. All that was wrong with the 27 was the oil pressure sensor was bad.

It needs some work. I'm near Hickory, thanks everyone

Yes there are weights under there. I welded a tube between the two pieces of metal under the seat and then welded a nut in the end of each side of the tube so I could bolt the weights on. There are six 30lb weights and then a bunch of old wheel weights in the middle.

So once I've stripped the 72 Bronco 14 for the parts to finish the 68 Charger, I plan on doing a custom build. I've been running ideas through my head for quite a while now. This is close to what I have in mind. Stock WH colors, flipped frame for lowered ride, dropped seat floor with low back bucket seat, foot board with custom built front half fender, repositioned (lowered) grill with turned out bottom, pod mounted LED headlights (painted wheel color),blacked out headlight panel, custom made faux wood spoke widened rear wheels (stock wheel color)and narrowed front wheels. Now for the drive train, I am thinking a Predator 670cc with a performance kit and exhaust stack. I'll have to do some research to see how well it would work, but I'm thinking a torque converter and HD chain driven live axle. I would use disc brakes front and rear, with foot pedal gas/brake. Dash panel would probably have oil pressure, speedo, choke, ign. switch, and light switch. Steering wheel will be aftermarket and steering shaft probably repostioned. Like I said, just ideas bouncing around my noggin. What do you think?

I finally bought my first wheel horse tractor. It needs a lot of work but it will run with new gas lines and a battery. It's a Charger 10 with an automatic drive. Techcumseh HH100 motor

Sold one of of my green lawn tractors and had enough left over after buying a model train I wanted, that I went out and bought this nice Commando 8, fully loaded with lights, cig lighter, nice rear discharge mower deck(not shown), original WH marked tires and a working slot hitch. He has the moldboard plow for it and he set it aside and I will pick it up once I have some more funds in my wallet. Its been awhile since I had a WH in the stable. I want to do some special autism touches to it. The paint and decals are super nice, except for the top of the hood and fender pan. I hate to loose the original decals and nice dealer decals in a full repaint. Thinking of having a decal made to cover the top of the hood in the autism rainbow jigsaw colors with "Autism Acceptance" in either yellow or white lettering in the middle of the top of the hood. Thanks for the info on the reverse vs non reversed configuration Mike. I could make do with the 26, but I do like the orientation of the 26R as it makes for a cleaner wiring look. I guess I'm into tractor Feng Shui.

If you had swapped the locations of your cables Aldon you could have used a regular Group 26 and saved some cash. I used to sell more 26 batteries at Napa than you could shake a stick at. If you had a piece of equipment and needed a battery, a 26 came off the shelf if you had room for it. I use the TSC L & G batteries in my stuff. Tender on all of them. I replace a battery every 4 years just because I feel it's time. Haven't had a failure on any of them. I did have to replace my 2 yr. old Everstart Maxx in my Tundra last week. It was replaced under warranty. Took 1 1/2 hrs at the Wally World Auto Center to get er done. Anyone who is retired who reads this and is bored everyday, or feels like your life has no purpose, just go down to your local Wal Mart auto center on a Saturday afternoon and watch the customers. You life will have new meaning after that experience.

It is glorious to get a 50 degree day here in the Adirondacks in mid January! After a implement run with fast88pu and talking tractors for a bit I managed to get some things done. I loath the lawn and garden batteries and their sub par quality. I spent a few hours researching car batteries and dimensions and decided to give the 26R a try. Well it's sung but perfect fit in the GT14. Yet another reason I prefer this size tractor. Supposedly good for 5 years. 3 times the cost of the last couple L&G's I bought. So it's a bargain on top of the fact that I should not have as many opportunities to go out to start my tractors and have the battery be failing. Irksome. Also assembled my parts washer and 1 ton folding crane jack that a snagged yesterday at HF. Looking forward to spring and more of these nice days.

I've paid far less for far more but that old WH will out perform new tractors that cost $2000s more. Sort of puts pricing in a new perspective... Could you do better! Sure, in time. Could you do worse? Sure, go buy a new tractor.

All the original Sundstrand engineers around here are long dead as far as I know , as well as most of the factory workers . It seems they had a very low turnover rate and it was pretty much all older folks that worked there . It's a shame that 20yrs ago someone didn't have enough forethought to go ask a lot of questions or possibly get some more detailed info from them - years ago in the gearhead community around here there were several Sundstrand employees and one was an engineer that designed most of their equipment . Odd part is - there is very little of Wheel Horse equipment around here in comparison to areas east of Illinois . Here's a snippet of some general research - " During the early 1960s, a team from the company's Hydraulics division experimented with applications of CSD technology on off-highway equipment. To commercialize these applications, the company merged this team with another from its Aviation division to form a fourth operating unit, Hydro-Transmission. In 1965 Sundstrand built a separate facility in LaSalle, Illinois, especially for this division, and began supplying hydrostatic transmission components to the automotive industry. This operation was subsequently expanded to include yet another facility, located in Ames, Iowa. " Source: http://www.fundinguniverse.com/company-histories/sundstrand-corporation-history/ As with many of the older businesses that built the high quality machinery like Wheel Horse and Sundstrand - they are no more of what they once were , taken over by the corporate ideal of quick profits...sad . Strange weather here in South Central Mn.. A couple weeks ago? -20 Farenheit temps and if not that cold? Freezing rain . Ice and minimal snowcover most everywhere. Now this last week? +35 to 40 degrees. Ice is melting, snowcover melting. Looking down at the largest of my 3 gardens and I can see the nicely plowed ground. It is mild outside today and suddenly? I feel like working the garden. I had to run to Fleet Farm this morning and get chicken and barn cat feed. They are remodeling their layout at the store. And lo and behold? Right next to the feed aisles? The SEED display. Oh yeah, you guessed it. I picked up some pole bean and watermelon seed. Also some delicata squash seed. I got home and my wife just shook her head. I won't start any until March. But, no sense in being unprepared, right? I ordered my sweet corn seed today as well. Now going downstairs to the seed starting/garden planning area? Grab a cold beverage? And start planning on the white board. I know there is alot of winter yet. But, as I said? No point in being unprepared. BTW that sounds better than saying I am itchy to get in the garden.

So I got tired of the wife complaining about the lack of TP in the bathroom so I took it upon myself to make something that will help alleviate the issue. She didn't even complain about the fact that it is pipe fittings.

I have been thinking a bit (always dangerous) about hydro gear vs piston to piston Sundstrand units. I have 4 hydrogears none of which have serious issues even though 2 have had their parking brakes ground down. The piston to piston on my D200 had major issues. I do not see the advantage to the piston to piston. The weak spot is usually the brass slippers and valve plate. They are highly susceptible to damage from parking brake shavings, dirt and other crud. In a piston to piston if the pump side is damaged you can be almost dead certain the motor side will have similar issues. In a hydro gear the motor side had steel gears which are more resistive to damage by dirt crud etc.. This means in a piston to piston that has internal damage you have weak pump trying to drive an inefficient motor compounding your problems. In the hydrogear the damage may not cause as big a performance issue as the motor side will still be reasonably efficient. From a production standpoint making the slippers and piston block seem to me to be more complex (and expensive) than the gears. (Gear pump and motors were widely used for years) Wonder why WH changed. Also if i wind up with another messed up piston to piston I may put in a hydro gear.

@Conductorsmith to That is a good looking GT minus the seat (which are almost always bad). I may be wrong, but I think the price is too high. Myself, would go $250-$300.

When we were finishing up construction of our new home four years ago the only room that wasn't completed was the laundry room. My wife hadn't decided what she wanted in the way of cabines and I was ready to take a break after nearly two years of building. At the time our property was cleared I had all of the oak trees taken to a saw mill, much of the lumber was used at our church for some renovations and the rest has been waiting patiently for me to get off my butt. This is one of seven loads of logs. For the past year I have been making doors, face frames and cabinet boxes as time allowed. When you are gluing up door panels you need lots of clamps! Good quality tools help too. My wife picked out this detail with flush doors wrapped by half round moldings. Making and fitting the moldings is VERY time consuming. This morning a couple of good friends came over and we hung the upper cabinets, the base cabinets are being built now. By spring I should be finished with this little "Honey Do". Then I will find out what she has up her sleeve for me to do next.

My son uses reconditioned interstate batterys. He talked me into trying them about 5 years ago and they are doing well so far. I do not keep tenders on them and the temps very rarely get below 30 here. The cost is about 2/3 of a new one.

I've done some things that a safety minded person might describe as "sketchy" or damn stupid. But I can honestly say that I wouldn't try to use that thing on a dare. Mark.

My older brother is a finish carpenter. Actually, he is a ground up, turn an old piece of wood into the most beautiful thing you ever saw kind of guy. 953nut?. You and my brother must be related. I must be adopted. Give me a 2"X4"? I can make you a toothpick, sort of. Very nice work. You should be very proud. My wife usually change her mind with the gardens. The sun isn't hitting it right, I know you just cleared that. But, we should move it over here. The whole measure twice, cut once, thing with wood? Never worked with me. Cutting steel and welding? Works for me. Not so much with wood. Nice work.
