When we were finishing up construction of our new home four years ago the only room that wasn't completed was the laundry room. My wife hadn't decided what she wanted in the way of cabines and I was ready to take a break after nearly two years of building. At the time our property was cleared I had all of the oak trees taken to a saw mill, much of the lumber was used at our church for some renovations and the rest has been waiting patiently for me to get off my butt. This is one of seven loads of logs. For the past year I have been making doors, face frames and cabinet boxes as time allowed. When you are gluing up door panels you need lots of clamps! Good quality tools help too. My wife picked out this detail with flush doors wrapped by half round moldings. Making and fitting the moldings is VERY time consuming. This morning a couple of good friends came over and we hung the upper cabinets, the base cabinets are being built now. By spring I should be finished with this little "Honey Do". Then I will find out what she has up her sleeve for me to do next.

To add my 2 cents (not that it's worth that much anyway). Good thread. I think it's just our nature to want to be appreciated for the work we do, whether that's a pat on the back from your boss, your wife complimenting you at a party or having a thank you recognition on forums. However, throughout our day we all fall victim to lack of appreciation, both giving and receiving, and that shouldn't set us back. I believe that most people appreciate the help and advice given on the forum, and most show that appreciation in the form of a thank you, however whether at work, home or on the forum, we are resonsible for our own satisfaction of doing a good job, being proud of the new table we built, or giving an awesome reply, whether or not the primary recipient acknowledges or not. Specific to the forum. Your advice, while perhaps specific to an individual at that point in time, may help many, many more without you even knowing. The reach of the forum is far greater than you can imagine, and while it may not be indicated by everyone, the information and advice that you give helps people you will never even know. A short example of this, then I will stop: I've been doing this RedSquare thing for a long time. I have received many thank you's (even indirectly in this thread) for so many aspects of the forum, from the civility, layout, ease of use and of course the information it contains, which is ironic because YOU created this information not me. I also receive the brunt of the criticism as well, so it's not all butterflies and rainbows. It was at the Big Show a couple of years ago when a man approached me. I had never met him, and he is a member on the forum. He sought me out (I'm not very outgoing myself) JUST to say thank you. It turns out that he had been in the hospital for an extended time, and RedSquare provided him an outlet for all that he was going through. A way to get away from the trials of hospital stays. He wasn't grateful for any one thing specific but for everything in the entirety and he was very grateful for the site in general. The point of this example is simply that with that one gesture, each and every contributor here was thanked and you never even knew it. I don't believe that this man went to every thread and pressed the like button, or said thank you to a single post. He didn't create a new topic saying how reading this forum helped him pass the time and take his mind off of what he was going through showing everyone directly his appreciation. However, with that one thank you, which I selfishly accepted, you were all appreciated and never even knew it. Your efforts matter! So don't dismiss the individual effort as a sign of the times, degradation of society or lack of appreciation, but know that whether or not you are directly thanked, your advice, pictures, crazy antics and posts like this are greatly appreciated by someone you will never know. A significant part of this forum etiquette is set by our members. When people read polite, well structured and kind posts, they reply and participate in the same manner. So set the example, be the way you want to see others be and they will follow. So this post has run its course and will remain locked. Opinion posts are always welcome here, and the respect of everyone's opinion (whether you agree or not) is appreciated (even if I didn't say Thank You, so Thank You.

so when i got the 701 guy told me frame is busted. so tonight i talked to my cousins fiance. asked him if he could weld it up for me. so i took it over there pulled the trans out and found a badly broken trans mount plate. so he told me that best thing to do is weld it up and then put the brace plates back on that one of the previous owners made. and thats what we did. we used some wood vises to pull the plate back together.

With all the interest in potatoes i thought i would post some pictures of my spud lifter. i found this at a friends place half buried and covered in brambles, I think its from a Ransomes mg of the mid 50s. i had it shot blasted and painted it, ive altered the fitting so that it fits the slot hitch on my Raider 12.

The woodworking shop had been our guest house prior to building our new house. When we bought the property it had two single bedroom houses, we liked the property enough (and the price) that it didn't matter; planned on building a new house anyway. Now the house we lived in for five years is the guest house. Here is a picture of it after a horse rustling trip in 2006. Suburban 400 on the trailer and a pair of RJs in the truck; '57 RJ-35 and a '58 RJ.

Yesterday I ordered 3 decals for the ol girl on redoyourhorse, including the dash decal. Today I was lookin at it... decided to order points, condenser, carb kit, and head gasket for a little tune up online as well. Printed out the head bolt sequence and torque for the head bolts thanks to this awesome forum. Seriously without this forum I'd be lost so thank you all. After all of the tune up excitement is over its gonna be time for tires, paint touch up, and finally throw on the hubcaps.

Finally got my weights on the tractor. I've had them sitting around since last spring and we turned them down to fit earlier this winter. Cast iron in a lathe makes such a mess! The mounting holes were right, but the diameter was to big. Originally they weighed 62 lbs each. We wound up at 46 lbs x4 for 184 lbs total. I also put chains on it to plow with... what a difference. Later this year I'd like to get some Carlisle Tru powers on it and load the tires.

@953 nut Can I come live in your wood working shop? I really like your table saw/work bench. What a great idea. If you wake up one morning and find it missing don't think of me.

After reading about the potato plows i thought i would post a set that i made here in the UK. Very similar looking but i made mine as a pair and adjustable height and width, I haven't used them yet but can add weight to make them dig in. i'll let the photos tell the story.

Anybody have any experience with removing a Kohler Magnum exhaust outlet? I done a bunch of K series pipe outlet removal but the Magnum has got its own special outlet. I can't even get that locking ring to move. Maybe a torch on the block, but putting that kind of heat localized is probably not the best idea.
  13. 3 points
@953 nut If I a shop that nice , I would move my bed and all my pills to the second floor. Wake up in morning cup of coffee , pills and downstairs to the smell of sawdust and then to the barn to take a ride on a horse. Could not ask for more. By the way you do great work on the cabinets and doors . Got a guest house huh , if you see a light blue El Camino in your drive don't worrying it just me waiting to learn woodworking from you.

Beautiful work Richard, I also know that look all too well, which is why I'm not gonna let the wife see this thread She can come up with enough things for me to do without inspiration

Probably the biggest change will be the routing of the choke and throttle cables. Most everything else should line right up. Most K-301s are battery ignition and most M-12s are Magneto ignition so you will probably have to get a new ignition switch and do a bit of rewiring if this is the case.

Cabinets look very nice! I know what you are saying.....When my wife gets that painful look on her face and says, "I've been thinking......" it usually means work for Ken!

You made a fair offer imo, considering all it needs and being non-running. I'd keep looking unless that model is a must have for you. I have an older (85 or 86) 416-8 with the Kohler in decent shape and running well that I'd sell for what they want.

If you want gloss - try Eastwood's Diamond Clear . I've used it several times in the past after sanding the glaze corrosion off a few wheels I've done , a few good coats and they still shine well after 5+yrs . I've also used their restoration filler to repair bad spots/cracks and it seems to work well , just stick to the directions and especially temperature ranges . Sarge

Steve chiseled it out on his k181 thread.. The locking ring could make it more difficult....possibly .

This is a pretty good after market muffler off ebay, usually shown as for Cub Cadet, and they are very reasonably priced - around $30. It has good baffling and its design allows for multiple positioning.
  22. 3 points
Yes it sucks for sure. Sadly they dont see what all of you and I see when something like that shows up. Best i can hope for is that maybe one of the employees is going to take it. It was off to the side in a way that would make you think someone has dibs on it. I would have to think about breaking the law if it was an RJ/ Suburban sitting there. Wish I had a drone with a grapple. Thanks for all your comments.

look at your fuel cap, make sure its venting, then it kinda sounds like vapour lock,is the fuel line too close some where, the fuse sure sounds like a short somewhere, and usually they are in a confined area so you have to look closely
  24. 3 points
Try removing the fuel line from the inlet of the fuel pump and lower it until fuel runs out, then connect it to the pump, they are not too good at pumping the air out of a fuel line.
  25. 3 points
r you sure you have the lever on the correct side of the cam,id pull the line out of the pump and crank the engine to see if its really pumping

Thanks either way ,I'm still 50/50 on them myself the sample pieces they had looked "more" chrome bit at least they aren't rusty anymore, these were pitted badly and most of the chrome had peeled to bare metal/rust, I really had nothing to lose but my $, it should hold up better than spray bomb silver/chrome/aluminum paint, in person the color actually reminds me of my plastic anniversary caps that came my '97 but glossy, I still have the original chrome set I polished, another set that's 50/50 if they'll polish out, these and my anniversary set, when I get the embossing painted I'll mount them, photos and update,Jeff.

I really think that it is about people that are building pullers. You are asking a tractor to perform past what it is designed to do. No doubt the 8 pinion differential, 1 1/8" axles is the best transmission for pulling. The 10 pinion Limited Slip is designed to do everything that the attachments that were built for that are designed to do. I don't really have anything else to say about this. Good luck.

I got a set of severely weathered/rusted wheel covers with the 520H I bought last spring and decided to give my local powder coater a shot with his "stainless/chrome" look powder just got them back this evening what do you guys think? vs the actual original chrome (last picture of a set I polished up back in the summer)? I believe I'm going to paint the embossments like the old style before they go back in use,Jeff.

I started up the horse yesterday being bored and afterwords my ears were ringing so bad. I put a pipe on it last year, only cuz it looked cleaner than having clamps and a muffler on it. With that being said, today I went to tractor supply for a muffler, 2 clamps, and a flapper. Came home. Wrenched the big pipe off and clamped the muffler on its spot. I guess after painted flat black it's not too bad....

So you know ,along with 953 nut, what Im going through. I have been lifting for 20 years and hike 3-4 times a week but could never eliminate back pain. I did crunches and still do to improve my core strength along with push ups. I need to really start doing stretches I was told. I am glad to hear you are better as this definitely interferes with everyday living. I am on gabapentin and percocet along with 800mgs of ibuprofen 3x day. I developed an addiction to percocet the first time this happened and have to be careful, but over the counter stuff just doesnt work.

I know that look well, your cabinetry skills are top notch! Very nice!!!
  36. 2 points
Yeah, exactly. He said it didnt/ doesnt start. So Im guessing one of the common issues. He initially said that he bought the tractor for the motor to replace his skid steers motor. But found another and sold the skid steer. So he doesnt use it and its been sitting there. I would only consider going to see it and potentially trying to start it if he was a little more receptive on negotiation and more than once a day response at most. Maybe Ill just wait it out. Ha ha

Really nice work.I am curious if the doors you made have a floating center panel? They look like they are made from solid stock.Nothing like making something of wood from you own land.

Where's Jim? I think I see him peeking out of that window!
  39. 2 points
Unless he has had it sitting on the trailer for two years my guess would be those are old pictures and it is deteriorated further by now. You need to bring a set of jumper cables, starter fluid and an open mind and go see it. As it has been outdoors for two years, isn't running, don't know the condition of the transaxle and know it will need a LOT of love I would be hard pressed to offer more than $ 250.

@MalMac Does the engine run? If so, run the engine to get the head & muffler nipple hot then shut the engine off and melt some paraffin wax on the threads. The wax will find its way through...Let it cool then use a pipewrench to just unscrew it. Like was said earlier....the locking nut will easily break off or unscrew....either one works. I'm sorry @obone I didn't realize you suggested paraffin wax in your post. Guess I didn't read it very well.

I thought I'd try the Regal Red this time. So far I'm liking it. Seems to cover well. I used the Tractor Supply IH Red on the 121 and it did a pretty good job once I figured out what worked best. I had just turned on the compressor and had a few minutes so I shot a section of the steering wheel with some clear enamel. Looked pretty good for one coat. I'm still trying to make up my mind and I still have a fair amount of time before I need the wheel. Still need to find a tranny or at least the case before I get too far. I've looked at the Eastwood clear coat. Just might go with it. So far I've been using the 3M glaze. This Suburban has a lot of dings but I guess it is to be expected when you account for its age and the guy I got it from had owned it since he was 8 years old. Which probably explains the hole in the tranny case

I thought I would just post the pictures of what happened. I did not want to do a whole "How to" thread, as we already have some excellent threads out there. Depends on how much rust/time you have. I spent weeks and in the end had to use a saws all to cut the tube close to the block and then cut groves toward the block then again in side the tube, but not to the threads. Then I used a punch to hit it at 45 degrees toward the center of the tube into the block. It peels it out of the threads. Leaves a lot of flakes so cover stuff first. I did try heat first days before, but hate putting any heat any where near the head. Best of luck. Another way is to use paraffin wax with heat.

The lock ring is an electrical conduit steel lock nut, a couple of good hits on a small chisel should cut it free.

There is a saying in racing that is "How fast you want to go equals how much you want to spend." Same goes for dressing up cars, trucks, tractors,etc..... How shiney you want to look.......... = $$$$$$$$$ powdered coating at least saved them. They turned out nice and once you paint the lettering and emblem they will look good and be a nice alternative. I have several sets that were rescued from a scrap dealer. Came in from a municipality that had 520's for there park dept. Some are almost Nos stuff and others are rust buckets. Theses might be good candidates for what you have done to yours.

Adam, this may or may not help, but this video is putting a 10 pinion LS differential together. It will give you some insight as to how this works and maybe what is possible. I'm not sure you could even lock the pinions in here the way they float in the ring. check it out.

I painted the spokes and used truck bed liner on the rim. I love the end result. It has a great feel and being a bed liner it's pretty tough. I've used Dupli-Color in the black can and Rustoleum and I didn't like them as well as the Dupli-Color in the blue can. It's not glossy though.

Adding a "thank you" to a thread will also......BUMP UP your post count! That's what it's all about right.. ! Just kidding of course. I do agree that a simple thanks added to a thread is easy to do and says a lot about the member as well as giving the thread some closure. If I'm interested in a threads topic it's nice to know what the correct answer was and that it it did indeed work. Mike.....

That's a shame but I kinda understand their point. They deliver to their buyer end of story. They sell to someone they don't know and all kinda issues mostly legal could arise. That shouldn't be, but some folks want to blame everyone else rather take responsibilty for their own actions.
