We are expecting a lot of ice over the next three days. We're doing everything we can to make sure that doesn't happen. The generator is ready, we have plenty of food, we have plenty of water, and we have plenty of fuel. Everyone in the area please stay safe and stay at home if you can.

Well it's been a while SINCE The Squonk has posted anything much about the Skonkfest 1267. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/topic/52230-ist-annual-sqonkfest/ After arriving back here to Wheel Horse Plaza from The big show, I was armed with a few needed goodies. Skonk is a cantankerous old dude and was loud and rough around the edges like an old sailor at a SpongeBob film festival so some upgradin was needed. I put skinny ag's on by the way to fit Skonk through a door into my rear shop. Plus I added fine 7/16 bolts and lug nuts for easier tire changes. First big issue was how loud he was. Plowin snow at work with the K 301 echoing off the brick and glass was rather obnoxious. So the First order of business was a different exhaust. It started out with a pancake unit, I got a Gravely style muffler from Napa. I was a bit disappointed. These Napa units used to be a lot heavier construction but now they are light and flimsy like every other mower supplier has. I added a stainless stack from a bathroom handicap rail. Still too loud I had my welder friend billy Bob add a baffle into the stack. Much quieter and with some carb tinkering, quieter yet. Next order of business was adding a mid tach-a-matic so I can use my grader blade Hood hit the steering wheel when opened so the steering shaft was lengthened. Next was the seat. The seat on it looked good but wasn't a WH seat and I hate seats sittin right on the fender pan. Plus it was mounted with wood. So off to TSC on Father's day! Next was the battery box. The L & G battery was bouncing all over.. A block of wood was used to take up space in the battery box. The large box was also hitting the steering gear Used a smaller box. Wil get a better one someday. While I was in there, added a fuse holder to the always hot lighter/light circuit Found a neato front Tach-a-matic adapter for the early tractors at the show so I had to put it on. Now if I put the PTO back on I can run a deck blower or hook up my Generator! As you can see, the hood hinge holes were wallowed out and the shaft was shot along with the hood holes Billy Bob and the welder to the rescue What good are all these changes with out doing the lights? Added new reflectors and LED's from Wally World Gotta bee seen at night plowin so Napa supplied the rear LED tail Multi hitch capability Finally driving it It. With the quieter exhaust You could hear Skonk rattle like that sailor, So back to Billy where he reapaired a missing belt guard mount Don't know what the future will hold for Skonk. Right now it's going to be my primary mode of transport at the Steam Pageant. Still on the fence about a restore. There is about 50 lbs. of Industrial red/ Pink on this tractor. Like it got dropped into a vat. Maybe on it's 50th birthday I 'll do it up for the big show in 17

From Glen Petit in our vendor section. On mine, I used sections of garage door springs and trampoline springs until I got the desired lift assist. I attached mine to a rod that clips into the mid tach-a-matic.

Since it was going to be in the 60's today. Decided to take a 1/2 day off and get the blade, weights and chains on my plow tractor. Giving the duty this year to the C105 with the 16 HP kohler upgrade.

I think we have a few members who might consider that model in the future when climbing ladders to trim trees

Here are some pictures of the inventory of parts that A-Z Tractor has. The filing cabinets are filled with used engine parts and NOS engine parts. There was request that I post some pictures so I will try to post pictures under this topic when I can. Also you will see that I do more than just Wheel Horse.

Yes, we have those 'exact replacement' Springs, they are extra strong (in Venders section). Also, two of the Hardware Store Springs will certainly work, together, probably almost as well as the heavy original. Lowell Scholljegerdes in MN is making the "Flags", and a lot of other 'hard-to-find' WH parts, also check his listing of all of the replacement parts he has down in the Venders section ( or www.WheelHorseMan1000.com). It looks like some areas are getting some fairly heavy showers that of course is freezing when it's the surface. If that keeps up it will really be treacherous. Everybody be careful out there.

Here's hoping that you can swap that generator for a plow or blower and have some seat time removing snow instead of watching your gas gauge go down generating power!!! It would be awfully boring sitting on your watching the generator run - seat time just wouldn't be the same!!! Stay safe!

Hey guys new to the forum. Currently working on a 1267 restoration. Does anyone else have one I could pick their brain on. Sorry I don't have a complete picture of it as I joined after I started the tear down but here is where I'm at so far. The motor does run and all forward and reverse gears work, I have been in touch with my local Axalta paint store and have had a spray can made of the paint I use to check color and it's about perfect. Hopefully will have more updates soon.

Hi everyone. Newbie to the forum here and newbie to Wheel Horse. Just picked up a 310-8 about an hour from home off Craigslist. She runs and drives and makes the snow blower spin. Came with side and rear discharge decks, snow blower, chains, wheel weights, and the mule drive (thanks Walt!) I'll be lurking around and searching the forums for info, but if there's anything anyone wants to share I'd be glad to hear it.

Three years ago we got slammed with an ice storm when we were living in far SE Oklahoma. We were out of power for 16 days, so yes it never hurts to be prepared. A local storm chaser took these pictures of our local Wal-Mart yesterday morning

You guys stay safe.By the forecast models it looks like a lot of states will be affected. If that happens you guys will be seeing line crew trucks from all over the country. My guess is from past experiances by the time you see them you will want to hug a lineman. Those guys and gals deserve a big thank you.

Back in 2006, some folks were without power for a week and a half up to 2 weeks. I'm just praying that we don't lose power, basically that no one loses power. I do think some people over react, but it's better to be too prepared than under prepared at times.

I have been wondering where I put that ! !

Glen also has the flag with the lift spring clip welded to it.He has an amazing line of replacement parts available and I for one would highly recommend his products. If you decide to get the parts you describe then the spring attaches to the flag and front foot rest crossbar.JAinVA

Craig, Nice generator setup you have. And yes, be safe. It's supposed to hit in my area before it gets up to you there in Hermann. So far, nothing at 4 am.

Plan to arrive early. Thursday has become THE day to arrive 😉 Its a great show, great time and great people.

Well said Richard. You won't regret making the show gearhead. I made the 900+ mile trip the past two years and even my wife didn't complain. It's incredible.

I had forgotten that the throttle lever was loose and wouldn't hold the engine at a steady rpm so I replaced the rivet that holds it together with a fine threaded bolt and lock nut and have got that tightened down, now it holds at a steady rpm. I've also discovered that my volt meter is bad so I'm gonna need to find a replacement for that. I finished up putting the decals on and also decided to spray a clear coat over the Argent silver paint on the rims, what a difference that made. I used Rustoleum Crystal Clear and really like how the paint shines now.

I joined the forum last spring and read that there was a show coming up in PA last year. At the time I couldn't go. Hopefully this year I can bring the ol lady, kids, and my dad if there's gonna be another one. Does anyone know a date if there is one this year in pa? I'd like to start making plans to get new tires, do the dash decal and few other decals, touch up paint, etc.

I found an old Snow Thrower (from 1970) to mount on my C-120, but it had the flag without the piece for attaching a Lift Assist Spring. I know those newer flags are expensive, so I decided to modify the old flag. Made a trip to my local Ace Hardware store, and bought a couple of eye-bolts. Drilled a hole in the flag, and attached a forged steel (1200 lb. high strength) eye-bolt. Ran the other standard eye-bolt to the spring (bought from Glen Pettit, Forum vendor), assembled as pictured. It worked great, maybe better than the factory design because the angle is better. Definitely less expensive.

Need to use the upper hole on the lift arm to get less resistance to lifting. You should be able to find the Owner's Manual for your plow under 'Manuals' on this site. Jim

I have so many horses that I wouldn't be able to afford Mobil 1in the engines.I use Traveller brand SAE30 from Tractor Supply.Seems to work for me and most of my Kohlers get an oil change once a year whether they need it or not.Onans that I own also get a filter and oil change about every other year.I do use Mobil 1 SAE10w30 in the hydro transmissions in my workers.80-90 oil in my standard tranny horses.Get that at Tractor Supply also.I try to stay away from the local Advance Auto........too pricey for me.

Nice outfit . I got my generator running yesterday, Hope we don't need it.

Jim, I agree. They venture out into some of the nastiest weather so we can go onto Red Square and whine, complain, and just yak away at the state of Wheel Horses, among various other things.

They are preaching an ice-apocalypse here on the news. KC area is under storm warning from noon today until midnight Sunday. I've heard all the "stores out of milk and bread" stories too. I think a lot of folks over react to this stuff sometimes. I know there's a chance the power can go out but it's only gonna last for a couple of days. I know y'all south of us are supposed to get it worse. Everyone stay safe and stay home if you can. We will survive it!

While we are on the subject of snow blowers. I found that once the blower is off the tractor if you leave the flag attached to the lift mechanism and tie it to mower deck lift it makes remounting the blower much easier.

Everyone affected by the storm this weekend stay safe. We are supposed to get ice this weekend here in Oklahoma too. According to the weather ours isn't supposed to start until later this evening and last most of the weekend. Getting ready to run out to the farm and bring the welding trailer to town just in case we need the generator. A generator setup would be nice, but for now I guess the old Lincoln will have to do

I believe this was the least common model, as the most common was the right handed one. I couldn't find any manuals on it though searching Stihl's website. Maybe Garry can add it here to our manual's section if found.

Update, it's been freezing rain here since around 4:30 or so. Very, very light at the moment and so far the highway is just wet, but my truck is iced over. 28 degrees still.

Well, yesterday I finally received the last 3 bearings I needed. I didn't have time yesterday to do much, but I did remove the old bearings. After soaking them in diesel, brushing them some, and more diesel, I definitely could have reused the 4 of the 6 S8K's. Oh well, I'll have them on a shelf should I ever need them. With the crappy weather forecasted for this weekend, I'll spend the weekend in the garage working on the Suburban, and maybe drywall if I have time. Not only did I receive bearings, but I received plenty of parts for the K90 and K91 engines that I bought for this tractor. Plan is to get them both running great which shouldn't take much, and then have the K90 on the tractor for a prospective buyer (of the engine!!) to come test run it. Then I'll swap back to the K91.

Kubota's are great little tractors. They only have two issues to my knowledge. 1 being that I've yet to see a Kubota engine that will start good the first time of the day without using the glow plugs, out side temp does not matter. OK so this is really more of an annoyance than an issue. I just don't think you should have to use glow plugs when it's 70+ degrees outside. The second thing is the pinion gear on the front axle, this has been know to strip out. This issue can be avoided by not ramming the bucket into things while in 4wd. If you ease into things you should never have a problem with it.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and looking at all the red horses out there. I'll make sure I bring some money so I can find extra parts for the 1257. Maybe another attachment or 2 hmm.....
