-
6 pointsamen to that! One of the things about RS Ryan is we LOVE pics...some guys demand Them!!! Theses are blocks to lift the tractor up on one side when setting up the plow. My kinda kid as he's making them on work time!! Better double the height @PeacemakerJack's 12" punisher was cutting twice that depth!! You best stop by my house and get the black Chilton trailer.. best to be prepared when horse rustling...

6 pointsI'd stock all the JD's on a boat, load them with air soft guns that look like the real thing, and then let them "Capture" them...Meanwhile, we keep all the 's here and they continue their nonsense with kiddy toys...

4 pointsWe had "Career Days" at our high school a couple of days before this, my paper work from the Navy Recruiter was sitting on the dining room table at the time the announcement was made; my mom burned it!

4 pointsIn a DC electrical circuit, current is always looking for the closest path to ground. So it stands to reason that if the main ground is loose or corroded, and the choke, throttle or clutch cable is a more convenient path, that will be the result. The heat is generated because the smaller gauge wire can't handle the high amps that the starter draws. This is why is has been repeated here in this forum many times, when trying to find an electrical problem, always check the ground connections first.

3 points10-14-1962 The Cuban Missile Crisis begins The Cuban Missile Crisis begins on October 14, 1962, bringing the United States and the Soviet Union to the brink of nuclear conflict. Photographs taken by a high-altitude U-2 spy plane offered incontrovertible evidence that Soviet-made medium-range missiles in Cuba—capable of carrying nuclear warheads—were now stationed 90 miles off the American coastline. Tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union over Cuba had been steadily increasing since the failed April 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion, in which Cuban refugees, armed and trained by the United States, landed in Cuba and attempted to overthrow the government of Fidel Castro. Though the invasion did not succeed, Castro was convinced that the United States would try again, and set out to get more military assistance from the Soviet Union. During the next year, the number of Soviet advisors in Cuba rose to more than 20,000. Rumors began that Russia was also moving missiles and strategic bombers onto the island. Russian leader Nikita Khrushchev may have decided to so dramatically up the stakes in the Cold War for several reasons. He may have believed that the United States was indeed going to invade Cuba and provided the weapons as a deterrent. Facing criticism at home from more hard-line members of the Soviet communist hierarchy, he may have thought a tough stand might win him support. Khrushchev also had always resented that U.S. nuclear missiles were stationed near the Soviet Union (in Turkey, for example), and putting missiles in Cuba might have been his way of redressing the imbalance. Two days after the pictures were taken, after being developed and analyzed by intelligence officers, they were presented to President Kennedy. During the next two weeks, the United States and the Soviet Union would come as close to nuclear war as they ever had, and a fearful world awaited the outcome.

3 pointsI remember being in sixth grade and going home for lunch that day. When we came back to school that afternoon the nun that was my teacher told us we could be at war by dinner time. It was a serious time in history. How many recall the "Duck and Cover" drills that went with that era?

2 pointsI'm not getting any younger and everything I work on gets heavier.... picked this up the other week for £30 ($33) and with some recycling of an old bike rack brought back from the US that was built like a tank. I've got this A handy crane with a 4ft boom that swings inside the workshop (the axle is for my 3rd 4x4 I'm designing)

2 pointsWell it is starting to take shape carb is being rebuilt have a nelson bid on e-bay. This will be a plow tractor only. The engine looks good inside no score marks. But there was a bunch crap built up around the carb block in side as usual. All cleaned up now should be a good runner. Looking at getting a seat for it. The original was trash. I am going to change out the front tires Enjoy the picks.
-
2 pointsHey just wondering if this is a original plow attachment from a 702 and if it looks complete?
-
2 pointsYes I did the bearing upgrade but I couldn't find a 4 bolt bearing retainer so you have to redrill holes for the 3 bolt style and add a 1/4" spacer to shim it out,but it is the same retainer used on the single auger shaft or impeller shaft just next size up bearing, got mine online the "big bearing store" also #40 roller chain in bulk,Jeff.
-
2 pointsIt turns out the posting was taken down because the seller's wife was thinking about keeping the tractor.... But the guy still wanted to sell it anyway! So I showed up with cash, and this followed me home!
-
2 pointsThanks Van.I had my dealer do the carb it purrrrss like a kitten now. I do not do small parts I have dropitis . They have a tank to let them sit in for a few days to clear all gum build up over the years. Good runner now. Caught it at the right time. Thanks for all the likes.

2 pointswell the work horse 700 is just about done. did wiring last night and i put majority of harness in a loom. today i hooked up the mini battery and choked it hit key fired right up and runs strong. even drove it around yard. only things left are weld fender brace and weld tabs for belt gaurd bolts back on and fix belt guard to fit a 8hp kohler. then after thats all done hook rear light up. i did put a long frame plow on it tonight. next on list is the work horse gt1642.
-
2 pointsAbove comment is correct for the longer one which is for 1960 style deck only and the smaller one is for the 1961 style deck only
-
2 pointsI'm gonna guess that the one is a belt guard for the mower deck on a suburban.

2 pointsburnt my finger badly on the GT14 choke cable at the weekend how I hear you ask... well the fuel had leaked out over the last 4 months through a split pipe so I refilled it, as I was cranking it through I though I could see smoke from the carb So I stopped, could see anything but lifted the hood and cranked again - yes it was the cable smoking... So I did as any fool would and checked if it was hot! Turned out despite there being a lot of metal on a GT14, I had a poor earth for the starter and the path it chose was the choke cable!!!!!

2 pointsI did a real simple barbell weight hitch, Glenn. Sized to fit some weight I picked up from a neighbor for $20. The weights were only 10 and 15 pounders. I would rather have heavier cast iron weights, but that would require a hitch extension. I used 1" threaded rod and still have to cut off the excess. I'm going to test this on the first snowfall. Might make some modifications, maybe figure out how to add more weight if needed.

2 pointsYes Mike the saw tooth type I have a bunch of them. Glen I just did not like those 20x8x10`s in the back. Kind of cheap looking. Thanks Van. I think I got lucky with this engine. As you know it is a crap shoot when you buy these.

2 pointsWhen working at a car dealer a brand new Olds Omega got towed in with a broken clutch cable. Broke where it went thru the bell housing. I figured the crimp was bad and replaced the cable. a week later it gets towed back in for another broken cable. It broke in the same location. This time I see burn marks where the cable was broken. The battery ground cable attached right next to the attachment point and was loose. It arced to the clutch cable and when the car was started, the cranking circuit was grounding thru the cable and melting it.
-
2 pointsI helped a guy with a C-101 that would spark from the throttle cable each time you went to start it. The owner had tightened the clamp on the engine and added a grounding clamp where the cable entered the hood stand. The sparking stopped, but if he cranked the engine for more than a few seconds, the plastic coating on the cable started to smoke. It was then that I found that the engine cradle ground wire was loose, not making good ground contact, and the throttle cable was acting as the engine ground.

2 pointsThis is my first post, so bear with me on this one. Quick history-1998 44" 2 Stage snowthrower, Model #79361, I bought this unit off eBay for a fair price back in January 2010, from Joe's Outdoor Power. I did the rebuild during the summer of 2010. The paint color was automotive Dodge Viper red, all decals are new and I carefully removed and reattached the model/serial# tag with an automotive emblem adhesive. It was mounted on my 1991 416H for the end of 2010 winter and for the 2010-2011 season. This last winter it was on my 1995 520H. I'm not an engineer, I just tinker with stuff that breaks or doesn't work as well as I would like it to. Before and after pictures First the Peerless gearbox, I don't know if the previous owner hit something solid with the auger or the pulley was hit from the side, but where it is mounted was bent counterclockwise. I bent back the mounting surface with small hydraulic press and welded two pieces of cold rolled steel, 1/2 x 1 x 3", on the inside and remounted the gearbox with 1/2" longer carriage bolts (Sorry no picture, difficult to see). I tried a new stock chain tensioner block the first winter after the rebuild (2010-2011) and didn't like how it wore so fast. So for this winter I used a small roller chain guide with a sealed ball bearing (made for a small motorcycle), and it worked pretty well. But we had a very light winter this year. My auger bearings were worn completely through the side, I didn't like the shaft turning inside the bronze bushing so I replaced them with 1" self centering sealed ball bearings from TSC, Part #1195167 and mounting flanges, Part #1198717. Then I had to make a 1/4" spacer so the bearings sat inside far enough so the side thrust bolts on the outside ends of the shaft were spaced correctly. Next are the modifications. I added a 12 volt linear actuator to the deflector. The mounts are homemade from aluminum and I had to drill one 1/4" hole in the deflector handle. The actuator has built in stroke adjustment and limit switches. I added a 12 volt power window motor from my truck to turn the chute. This took some time to fabricate and to figure how to wire it with limit switches. The limit switches are from McMaster-Carr and are rated to get wet but not submersed. I used a standard flat four trailer plug to connect it to the tractor. The first picture is the mock up and I drilled two 3/8" hole to mount. The toggle switches I used were from Radio Shack (3 position, 6 terminal, DPDT switch, springs back to center). I also attached a power window motor to a single stage(1989-Model#06-36SL01). I bought it brand new in the box in 2009. I know this model was built for a vertical shaft Wheel Horse, but I converted it to my horizontal shaft tractors. That would be complete new post. Too much time on my hands during the winter I guess. Currently I'm putting a Haban sickle bar mower on the 416H. Not a bad fit until I wanted to use the hydraulic lift to raise and lower it. I hope this has some helpful information for somebody, as I have picked up a lot information from this site for my hobby. Craig

1 pointHello, With my birthday coming up, I was asked what I want for my present, and I said I'd like a new exhaust stack for my tractor. I have a GT14, with a 14 Hp Kohler, And when I look up mufflers in a Stanley muffler catalog, I think An IH-1 International Harvester farmall cub muffler looks like it might fit the bill. It's available at Tractor Supply Co. and it has a 1 3/8" inlet. Is inlet size my only necessary consideration? Has anyone used any other brand of muffler stack?

1 pointMike, I pretty much filled it when I rebuilt it, but I do have a leak somewhere on the back of the pump...so for the last few years some keeps coming out. It is a very slow leak, and I was ready to go after it (when the 857 died). I did add some a few months ago...so, I would guess about 1/2 full. I'll get out the 702 this weekend and run it for a while and check the heat I might get from the pump.
