T'was a beautiful day to get some seat time on the 312H and enjoy that foot control and the high back seat. Now if I could only teach the 312 to trim the two strutting gobblers........sounds like a project for my two Grandsons that are into robotics.

I think the rainbow ended up right at the Big Show Fairgrounds.

Well,,,,, a couple weeks ago while cruising CL for no particular reason other than nothing else to do at the time, I came across an intriguing ad for a C-145. I really wasn't in the market for another tractor, but the pictures just drew me in and the owner said he would like to barter something in trade for the tractor. Sooo, I gave him a call and asked him what he had in mind for a trade. His answer was "what have you got?" Well, that leaves everything wide open! We tossed a couple ideas back and forth but what he was looking for I didn't have and what I had he wasn't looking for. So I asked him if he would just sell it outright. "yeh, probably" was his reply. So I said "what are you thinking?" And he said "I don't know, what are you thinking?" Well, now the door is wide open, and I walked through with a very good (for me) offer. He replied "yeh, that sounds about right". Well, how quick can I get there before he finds someone to trade something with or changes his mind on just selling it to me for what I was offering? Answer: QUICK...QUICK...QUICK!!! Got it home. Answered a few questions like "what were you thinking?" Figured out it is a 1983, but someone must have blown the engine at about 611 hours because that is when most of the wiring was cut and a 1972 14 Horse replaced the original motor, hence the electric clutch PTO. The wiring is really screwed up and everything is hot-wired right now, but that gives me something to lay awake at night thinking about. The tractor was doing grooming duty on a small Quad track behind the owners house. He said nothing could stop it. I don't know what the plow is off of and I put a post in the "Implement Forum" trying to see if anyone can recognize what it could have come from. I do know he didn't do any damage to the tractor or the plow by retrofitting it on the C-145. So I got the plow off, got the duels off and took a few pictures. The lineup is the '76 B-100 that I bought new, '78 C-161 that found me a couple years ago and the '83 C-145 that just found a new home. The last photo is when they all went to be in there new home together. There is a fourth WH in that photo (lower right with the tractor facing the opposite way of the other three), that is my son's '80 C-125 that I get to store and take care of. And then in the background is my other vice, a 1962 Chevy 1/2 ton Streetmachine. Life is Good!!! Sometimes Jim

Bottom line is that tractor in question is worth $400-$600 all day long as it sits with the mower, original paint, tires, engine, and complete....assuming it has no engine issues. Why do some wish to lowball values when they wouldn't sell the tractor that cheap if it were theirs?

Here are the other pictures. Definitely appears to be similar to a WH 3 piece trans, but the shifter seems off center in the pictures. Weird. Being a smooth hood, I wonder if this is an early one of the RJ-35 converted to 3-speed kits? Or is that a converted hood from something else that is just coincidentally shaped similarly? It even has original tires, and it looks like they hold air. It has the right gas cap, the steering wheel looks like new...everything is there!! I think even offering $200 is insulting. Just my .02.

Well the raider 10 is about all restored. New decals and new seat. Straight piping underneath it and turning it to duals out the back. LOUD. Getting red glowshift volt meter and to top everything off color-morphing under glow lights. Not to mention the fact it goes over 40! By far one of the best projects I've ever done! Pics coming soon.

Here are a couple pictures of it. I had it all cleaned up but i take my daughter riding on it every evening and she just loves it! Thank for all the help everyone! I hope to have a collection one day as big as some of the people on here do!!

HAHA! its mainly for playing in the dirt at my Deer Camp. I also want to get set up for the plow that goes on the back but i want to get this blade done first! I do alot of firewood cutting and i am sure i could find a log to push around!!!

Southerncannuck, I have installed thousands of heli-coils over the years.The only reason that coil came out if the hole was tapped correctly is that it was not installed correctly.The insert needs to be 3/4 to 1.5 turns below the surface.This keeps the insert from unscrewing because it digs into the tapped thread.The last insert coil has to stop before running out of thread in the head for the same reason. In years past I have had to shorten heli-coils by cutting off coils(Dremel abrasive wheel) to meet these conditions. Hope this makes sense,Luck,JAinVA

I payed 450.00 for mine, it runs great. I'd start at 350 and I assumed he would start at 500 and you guys meet some where In the 450.00 range.

That horse is worth all of $400 to $500 with the deck...if it runs good. It looks like it is all there, straight and original...and it looks like it would clean up very nice. That is Wheel Horse's best horse produced up to that time as a garden tractor.

i picked up a nice 5000 watt generac alternator model 6511-1 for $60 at centre hall over the weekend.i was told i would need a 12 horse or larger to use it,is that right? it did not have a tractor mount with it so if any one can post a pic or two of the mount and how it adjusts the belt tension i can fab one up. thanks..

I have found a 702 on Craigslist that I am interested in but I'm not sure what it's worth. The listing does not include a price. Any thoughts appreciated!

I sent him a personal message ref a couple of project WHs that I have, and I'm only about five miles from him. But my "projects" are far from running tractors, so I'm hoping he can get the 702. JIM

That is all fine and good, but it is apples and oranges. Your 753 is not a 702 that is all original and not re-painted, no rust and a great patina. An original RJ58 is going to be more then a restored one...and more then a 401. That is what I am trying to say.

I'm trying to offer advice on buying and dealing with sellers. I feel like the others here are also. What someone else actually paid for a tractor is a very accurate price guide IMO. I'm gonna go to bat for WheelHorseKid here. Ain't any of you guys up in the PA area got a tractor you can sell to this young man on his budget? And get him started at collecting ? He's going to the Big Show and I know many of you are. I hope someone can bring a tractor he can buy from you. I'm just too far away to help out like this or I certainly would. I'd fix him up right quick. Todd

I think we are just giving him a ballpark on what other ppl paid for similar tractors! That is helpful and yes it is still up to him what he wants to pay. But nothing wrong with showing him the tractors we got and what we paid. I would find it helpful if I was in his shoes...

No problem Jim. I am under the impression that WHKid is asking what we think the horse is worth...and it is worth all of what I said (if it runs), maybe more. If WHKid can get it for less...that's cool...but that is what the horse is worth. BTW, I don't appreciate this best offer thingy either. Bad way to do business.

Perfect timing as it happened as all we had left to do was get WN off the bench and put some fluids in her.. So, a big Mark for the great decals, the cream rather than white works really well I guess now's a good point to do the "before and after" thing As arrived from Chris's collection.. The green engine wasn't part of the deal, I just needed somewhere to put it The same machine after a bit of work All I need now is a better seat...

It just rattled down. I used that at camp to hold my brewskie!! I put some foam in it for shake resistant! I mowed 4 hours!!! Whew i was whipped!

I got a really nice light put into my blast cabinet and have used it quite a lot in the last week or so on my wife's Gilson project. Well today I was going to blast a really rusty rim and even though it was "light" inside the cabinet, I still couldn't see because of all the dust. I decided to connect the shop vac to the vacuum port to expel the dust. This was a very good idea. When I assembled the cabinet I used a lot of silicone sealant on all the areas that could possibly leak. With that being said, I know my cabinet was going to be air tight....In fact, so air tight that the vacuum collapsed the cabinet bending the top piece of metal and busting the glass......Now it is really hard to see into the cabinet. Note to self.....Remove the vent cap in the back of the cabinet next time I try the vacuum trick!

The new keys from McMaster Carr arrived today. I installed the new key, and now my tractor is happy again! Thank you everyone for your help, and if anyone needs a #22 Woodruff key for their horse, just let me know and I'll mail one out. Thanks again!

When he first put this up he didn't state if it ran or not. Judging by the dust and half the time that I bought a old dusty tractor I couldn't hear it run because of a dead battery or gunked up carb or bad gas from sitting. With that assumption I would only pay 350 not knowing trans or engine condition. If that was my tractor and I haven't had it running and could not get it to run for a potential buyer, I would have to understand a 350.00 offer. He asked for opinions about the situation and he recived them. We all don't have to agree on our opinions. And as far as 200.00, the only tractors I ever purchased for that amount where projects missing some parts. Let's remember that we are here for the hobby and to share the hobby among eachother. I hope my info was helpful and I wish him good luck on closing the deal for this tractor If he really wants it.

Looking a little more at the pics, I think this is just a complete home made job that made use of whatever parts they could find. A remarkably clever junkyard pup. Who knows... maybe an early attempt at reverse engineering with some scrapped parts?

Here is the blade sold in 1976 but any blade for a long frame Wheel Horse from 1973 up to the last in 2007 will fit. Sorry we don't have the operator manual for this one. Somewhere along the line they increased the width from 42" to 48". Here is the last one to fit with an operator manual. Garry

Guys, this is about what the 702 is worth...not what you have bought a horse for at some point. I paid $5 for 6 tickets at the Big show in 2010 and they called my name for my B-100. It is worth more then that.

I know it looks like a Wheel Horse transmission, and it has all the external parts. The flat tension pulley is 58/59 RJ. The axle is different. The casting is completely different, ie...shifter is off center, the 2 set screws with lock nuts, that other bolt in front of the shifter, the bolt pattern in the side plates and casting are also not like the #5003 / #5010, and the brake band mount appears to be less then on a 45 degree angle. Like Jason said, it may be something special, but it's not like anything I have seen. In the 7th picture Jason posted, notice the shaft that protrudes the side plate in front of the brake drum and under the shifter. The inside of that trans has to be set up different also. Very interesting for sure. Dang, I want to open that sucker up.

I think you`re making this harder than it is. I`d just wait until you see what`s available at the show. There will be plenty to choose from, and plenty of help from the guys here. Everyone is going to have different opinions on which one they like best. Kinda` like Fords or Chevys, and blonds or brunets. When you see it you`ll know... Hope to see you there..

I agree that $200 is too low for the 702, but I recommended that when the seller was refusing to give an asking price. A low ball offer would just be to get him to talk dollars. I figure that any offer at all would be less insulting than no offer. It's just a starting point. I really don't like sellers who take the 'best offer' approach to selling, when you take the time to travel to see the tractor, and make them a realistic offer. Then they say that they will wait to see if they get a better offer. It's not an auction. I usually tell them that my offer is only good today, and I can't travel back again later. I agree that you have to make them your own best offer, but then be willing to walk away from it. Jim

Agreed. You guys that are saying $200-$300 I have to wonder what you're smoking. I'd bet none of you would sell it for that price if it were yours.

Today I just scored a motorcycle lift. I've been watching Craigslist for one. I wanted one of these to make working on and restoring my horses much easier. This is the 854 I picked up a month ago. Wanna bring it back to life.
