There are SO many reasons this time of year is special. It's the time to transition from Summer Wheel Horses to Winter Duty. It is also the time when 2 major forum events happened. November 14, 2006 - RedSquare was started by whchris on a free service called Forumer, anyone remember whforum.15.forumer.com October 31, 2011 - We abruptly moved from Forumer to our current home. I often go back and look at the posts from those times and while RedSquare is so different today then it was then, there are STILL many of the same people here who helped make this what it is today. So at this important time of the year, as you get your machines ready for the new season, Thank You for being a member of RedSquare, it's been a heck of a ride and still going!

Thank you for taking the bull by the horns and rescuing the forum from disaster. As you said, the new forum is different in so many ways, but I still make it a part of my day. I have been around here since 2009, so I consider myself one of the survivors. We lost many members who for one reason or another never came back. They are missed, but so many new members continue to make this a fun place to hang out. As you may or may not know, I am undergoing major back surgery at the end of November, and the healing and recovery time is a long one. If I didn't have this forum to look forward to, I might just find myself going crazy. So once again,

Ok. Presenting my new to me 1988 Ingersoll 446.It has the onan B43M engine. I posted pictures the other day in the wanted ads. Looking for wheel weights for this. My mistake. Anyway. Got it home yesterday and here it is. The last picture is a back to back comparison with my 522xi. Enjoy. Glenn 20151012_113141.jpg 20151012_113141.jpg

I have the 1967 Lawn Ranger with the snowblower all greased and ready for action. The 1961 Wheel Horse 701 with hydraulic pump is lifting the 1962 BD-4262 Snowplow! First time using the 701 and the Lawn Ranger is already a tested winter warrior.

I've been here since November 14, 2006 when Chris (whchris) called me and asked me to join his fledgling website. Karl is right when he says its been a heck of a ride! We have weathered a few snags like almost loosing the whole site, been threatened legal action by a few disgruntled past members, (I think one even informed one of our Moderators that they were gonna get an azz-kicking!). But all of us that run the site have followed a strict set of rules that we established and revisit from time to time and I think we have a very tightly run forum that anyone of any age or gender can feel comfortable visiting and participating in. This place is a great success!! Mike...........

I got this in a trade a few weeks ago from tom (stratostar250) and needed some work such as a new starter, condenser and points. I also put a new seat pan from a 90's 520 and soon going to add brand new decals. I don't like the plastic fenders. I do love this beast a lot, Seems tougher than my 520-H! It has 1392 hours. it has the Kohler K series 1 in it. I herd the series 1 is bad because if you go up a high slope the tractor will seize up? I'm not quite sure maybe you guys can tell me. I might plow with it also.... Thanks, Dave!
  8. 5 points
That whole Series 1 thing is funny....everyone says stay away....but then someone like yourself buys one with a bunch of hours and its over 30 years old! If it has lasted for 30+ years it cant be all bad. Proper oil maintenance is the key I believe. Good luck with it! Mike........

I started the raider 10 one time not knowing there was one in there. Flywheel got him. Wasn`t pretty!

Over the years I have lurked around other sites on a variety of topics and never been inclined to join. I talked with "Wild Bill" at the Florida Flywheeler's show a few years ago and he told me about Redsquare, it took a few weeks but finally checked it out. Posted a question and within an hour I had a couple of great answers, a manual download and a dozen or so welcomes. I was very impressed! I have been a regular here and I look at it as a "cyber, sitting around the shop shooting the bull meeting place". I can identify with Bob as far as the recuperation; the first four days following my spinal surgery I had no access to the internet and was having withdrawal syndrome! .Granted, I was getting some real gooood pain relievers, but I still missed it. Though I have only met a couple of the members in person I consider all of you to be good friends. Sparky, Karl and others who laid the foundation deserve a big from all of us.

Oh the stories I would love to hear someday! Yea this place is pretty awesome.

It was more dramatic at the time, but the post that Jason made is how the "original" forum sat for 3 months! We were fortunate to have "extracted" 90% of the data from Forumer before the BIG Crash when it became completely unavailable. Unfortunately we did lose things like Members passwords, e-mail addresses etc. It took YEARS to recover from that and in fact on occasion we still get someone requesting to have their pre-crash account reset. Bob, we'll be here cheering you on as you recover, don't worry about that!

This year has been one of the toughest years of my life with the passing of my dear ole Mum ,Redsquare has been a sanctuary where I can visit and interact with a few mates that I have grown to be a big part of my every day life & sometimes I have probably said more to people on Redsquare in one day than I have spoken my wife . Although I haven't been as active on here as I have in recent months due to my mothers passing ,I still try to make my daily visits to read up on what you guys are up to . I hope to be a bit more active soon when things start to settle down here at home. dunno what I would do if anything happened to Redsquare , great bunch of guys.

I hate to admit it, but I have had these same issues with my '88 full size Chevy. What gets me the most about this, is the steel brake lines! With all the safety features vehicles have on them, they still use plain steel brakes lines that rust and can blow when you need brakes the most. I would gladly pay the extra to have stainless steel brake lines as standard equipment and it wouldn't cost that much more! I'm surprised that stainless brake lines haven't been required, especially with vehicles lasting much longer these days. C-85

Looks like RMaynard is going to build up his post count again. Seriously...good luck Bob. This site and the people on it have become a large part of my life. I don't know what I'd be doing if was not for Red Square.

Well here it is all in pieces now , I learned a long time ago with a restoration that if you take it one piece at a time and make that piece as nice as possible when you start putting all the pieces together you end up with a very nice ending , this wont be a true restoration but more like a resto mod tractor , true color with the right decals but just not every part that it should have , as I took it apart I found that most all bushing are shot and some spots didn't have bushing like the clutch shaft and things like that I am going to put bearings in place of just a hole through the frame rail , going to weld up all holes that aren't going to get used to make the frame look cleaner ,

I got a Wheel Horse for my grandson, age 7½, since he has outgrown his powerwheels. It is a Ranger 800 and since it was in the garage beside my C125 I thought to take a few pics for comparison. It's had to believe that the Ranger is 10 years older than the C125. 1973 Ranger and 1983 C125.

Look up filled up the bed of the El Camino yesterday. Picked it up from Chip 61 a C120A, 1974 we think, will provide serial and model number later. Not a beauty queen but you can always put lip stick on a pig. Rebuilt engine , hydro works great , no leaks and no creep. I st hydro so my right foot will need to be retrained. Look for Redneck engineering in the future. I hope I did not load the pictures twice

The Case/Ingersol has 16" rear tires and stands a bit taller than the GT-14, parked mine next to one just to see; wish I took a picture.

Has anyone tried dryer sheets, moth balls or both or something else with a strong odor? I use dryer sheets in the cars I have stored and they seem to work well. I also purchase a few large all aluminum snow mobile trailers instead of building a barn. They have ramps on the back and on the front. They close up very tight compared to a building. If I can ever reduce my heard I can then sell the trailers as well. No annual real estate tax or maintenance is another advantage.

New wheel, any updates? If you don't have a voltmeter to check things out. You won't be able to narrow the issue down. I have one and would be willing to come check it for you. You are just down the road from me. Let me know Denny

I believe I heard that TORO makes many of those smaller tractors for New Holland, just painted blue. Also, John Deere once made some mower decks for Wheel Horses in the late 60's, to WH spec's and in red. Glen

I always opt for the higher end rotors (and pads) when I buy my brake parts. You get more miles out of them and less headaches! Its best to avoid all the Made in China car parts if possible. Mike........

For what you are looking to do, there is basically 4 different kinds of Wheel Horse manual transmissions. 1) 3 speed...4 pinion differential...brake drum is on the 11/44 gear shaft. the 3 speed also comes with a bevel gear differential...you do not want one of these 2) 4 speed...same as the 3 speed except the brake drum is on the cluster gear shaft. 3) 6 speed...10 pinion limited slip differentials...brake drum is on the 11/44 gear shaft...you do not want one of these 4) 8 speed...4 pinion differential with 1" axles...brake drum is on the cluster gear shaft...you probably do not want one of these 8 speed....8 pinion differential with 1 1/8" axles...this is probably the one you want and is considered the strongest by guys that pull. This should simplify what you want to look for.

working part time at an auto parts store i see that all the time , usually caused by the caliper hanging up as already stated. those MAY have been able to turn , don't know for sure until you measure them. some rotors don't have much to work with even when they are new , some have enough to turn a couple times. we charge $12 each to turn a rotor or drum. if you had the work done at a repair shop , i have found that most will not have a rotor turned and insist on new ones my 1995 Chevy S-10 went almost 300,000 miles with the original rotors , my 2003 Chevy 1500 has 156,000 miles with the original rotors still serviceable cheap Chinese parts has also been mentioned ...we have two levels of brake rotors , most people go for the cheapest ones $800 for rotors and pads seams very high

I'll join in with the others on the comments on this engine. I've got a 78 and a 79 year 175's and I really like them, unknown hrs but they have to be in the hundreds. Just good old common sense should keep them going a long time. I watch my oil carefully (which should be done on any engine) and keep it maybe a pint over full with a change whenever it starts getting black. It always amazes me when I haul one of these old horses home and look at the oil and it seems more like tar than oil!! Less than $10 and a half hours time to keep your baby running always seemed like a good thing all around By the way, as a bonus, this engine sounds really cool when its up on the throttle....

Got mine in last week. Looks and sounds great on my 854...(BOOO to me...sorry no pics) Thanks again Bud!!

I'm with Miike on this. There are too many of these engines still in service for them to be considered a bad piece of equipment. I'm sure running a top quality lubricant and changing the oil every 25 hours is all thats needed to keep these engines running 30+ years.

So, What are the options. 1. leave the 4X4 in the garage and use wifes mini van 3. daily trips to the car wash 4. pressure wash the calipers daily and coat with WD 40 5. move south 6. add a brake that works

KC For some reason, I imagine the guy sitting in that seat at about 400 pounds. With a beer in one hand, and a turkey leg in the other! Redneck engineering at it's very best!

The loader is the best thing I ever bought. I use it for everything. It will never come off that tractor. I gave my wife three chioces: 1) A shovel and a push mower 2) Hire someone at $70 for every snow and mow 3) Let me take care of everything, but I get to buy what I need. She wisely chose option 3 And if you think that is excessive, you should see my fishing tackle!

I tell my wife I'm taking her to lunch at a restaurant that's not in town. She asks "Is there a tractor along the way"

I had a 444 without the holding valve. Ask me how I found out..... They were not standard and if your 446 does not have a holding valve then it will freewheel down hills and that is a problem. Does yours have the holding valve? It is about the size of a cigarette pack under the frame closer to the back of the machine I believe. Either way very nice !

As said, I wouldn't see you building this for resale at any profit, but if it were mine I'd have no problem putting money into it as a keeper. Very cool tractor. Looks like the front wheels are off a Lawn Ranger and possibly the front axle. Done to drop the front for pulling I'm sure.

The following is the 702 image file, for your reference. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/topic/5710-1962-702/ From the factory, front tire size should be 4.00-8, rears are 6-12's... appears you'll be needing a square seat pan, and another gas cap. Also, that extra piece of metal, mounted to the right side of your trans tunnel... that your belt cover is screwed into, has me curious as to what that is all about.

Believe me I thought about it. Once I got started it only took a couple hours. If I run across some at a good deal I may replace them later.

You'll still have a great time Steve. I'm happy this week. It was a great ND/Navy game as always. If not for a few oops on Navy's part it would have been closer. It's probably my favorite ND game of the year. I love the respect they have for each other.

Update - Deck adjusted, Bud's stack arrived and it mounted - sweetness and pure redneck - correct for Georgia. Al those heat stressed wires! Simple crimper and some 14 ga wire in several fun colors (I'm not a purist so may make it 'perfect' sometime later - proper connectors and all. Seat interlock was intermittent until sprayed with electronic cleaner. Even found that the bad ammeter was just corroded so that's going, too. Seat pan arrived Friday from a 500 series and that plastic mess is in the trash. Runs and mows like mad! I even like the bit of smoke the engine gives off the stack with hard throttle. Reminds me of my cousins' Allis back in old NJ. Good times. Now that I know she works, I can take the winter and break her down for stripping and paint. Enjoying this immensely.
