I got a Wheel Horse for my grandson, age 7½, since he has outgrown his powerwheels. It is a Ranger 800 and since it was in the garage beside my C125 I thought to take a few pics for comparison. It's had to believe that the Ranger is 10 years older than the C125. 1973 Ranger and 1983 C125.

Well here it is all in pieces now , I learned a long time ago with a restoration that if you take it one piece at a time and make that piece as nice as possible when you start putting all the pieces together you end up with a very nice ending , this wont be a true restoration but more like a resto mod tractor , true color with the right decals but just not every part that it should have , as I took it apart I found that most all bushing are shot and some spots didn't have bushing like the clutch shaft and things like that I am going to put bearings in place of just a hole through the frame rail , going to weld up all holes that aren't going to get used to make the frame look cleaner ,

Look up filled up the bed of the El Camino yesterday. Picked it up from Chip 61 a C120A, 1974 we think, will provide serial and model number later. Not a beauty queen but you can always put lip stick on a pig. Rebuilt engine , hydro works great , no leaks and no creep. I st hydro so my right foot will need to be retrained. Look for Redneck engineering in the future. I hope I did not load the pictures twice

Went to run my D-160 after sitting since last year and found the following in the engine compartment. There were about 6 mice and the tins were packed with grass.

It is a 702 1962...the serial # is below my 62-4216, but the bent shifter (if that is what Craig was referring to) is not a sign of early 1962. Actually, the 702 first came with a straight shifter...the HY-2 (hydrolic lift) was an option first and the kit came with the bent shifter to make room for the canister that held the oil...which mounted on the tower where your sticker is. I think after a while the 702's just came with the bent shifter, or maybe someone just changed it out during the years. Nice looking horse...the 702 is a keeper for sure. Welcome to Red Square. Are you looking to make this a correct horse? I see some things wrong, but I do not want to pick it apart if you are just going to use it. If you want to know what is and is not correct, we can help you with that. It looks to have been re-painted. Take a good look at the squares in the front of the hood on both sides. My guess is the someone painted over the Wheel Horse Logo stickers that would be there. If you can see that they have been painted over...take some Acetone on a rag and gently loosen the paint and you can uncover without hurting the stickers. There should be a 702 sticker in the indented square on the belt guard also. BTW, that belt guard looks to have been built out from where it should be for some reason. Do you know any history on this horse??

Traded for this tractor yesterday and I need some information on it. Exactly what is this tractor model and year. I will need to find correct seat and tires and wheels for it. Any information is appreciated

Since this was being used as a puller they may have figured the extra idlers were needed. I think the input pulley on the trans looks a little smaller than it should be, done for more speed no doubt. I don't have a 702 to compare it to but others may give you the size. As far as the return on investment for a first class restoration goes I wouldn't be too optimistic, just build it to your level of satisfaction and enjoy it. Very few of the early '60s are real hard to come by, but most of us enjoy collecting any of them. PS; please secure the gas line a little better.

Probably a lot of other stuff too! How hard are the correct parts to come by? Here are the pictures. Will take cover off tonight. Thanks for your help! It is appreciated

That's some significant rust through. You hve your work cut out for you. I would be be tempted to look at replacements.
  19. 3 points
I finally got a little more shop time. After blasting the front wheels I discovered the rust was worse than I thought so I had to do a little repair. While I had everything out I decided to repair the seat I acquired from a red square member as well. I always make sure I don't leave anything smoldering after welding and grinding so I sprayed some primer while I waited.

No LOL, the brand is TACO, the model is the "Lil Indian" form the 1960' and 1970's. I think these same minibikes are back in production and available today. Lets get Mikey one!

Van, when you pull the shifter the forks can be aligned with a screwdriver. Then reinstall the shifter making sure the dog point setscrew enters the hole in the front of the shifter ring. You'll feel it. Then tighten the setscrew until you feel resistance as you go through the gears. Then back off just a fuzz and tighten the locknut. Locking in two gears is almost always caused by a sloppy shifter. Wheel Horse updated the shifter rails in 1965 to prevent the problem. You could update it but there's really no need to if you keep it properly adjusted.

The following is the 702 image file, for your reference. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/topic/5710-1962-702/ From the factory, front tire size should be 4.00-8, rears are 6-12's... appears you'll be needing a square seat pan, and another gas cap. Also, that extra piece of metal, mounted to the right side of your trans tunnel... that your belt cover is screwed into, has me curious as to what that is all about.

@stevasaurus I was referring to Garry's list of documented 702 serial #'s. His list show's the bent shifter starting around #2856... and, considering his #'s go well into the 20K's, seems 2933 is still pretty early in production run to me... but, the good Lord knows...I'm not one of the authorities around here. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/file/1044-tractor-1962-502-552-702-suburban-da-om-ipl-wiring-snpdf/

So it seems 2 steps forward and 1 step back has been the theme this summer. After discussing hydro's and rebuilds and what fluids etc I decided that I should go ahead and swap out axle seals while I have the hubs and axles cleaned up and anti seized. First pick is new seal in place. while waiting to get my seals I was reading through the forum and read hydro Control loose or won't hold position. I was interested as I had tightened my adjustment as far as it would go and saw no real change. upon further inspection not only for the project tractor but for the Parts tractor and my other GT14, meaning all 3, none had the key installed that is necessary for the friction cone to work. Indeed I feel it was a tad a pain in the ___ ! And I can only imagine how difficult lining up everything would be with low light and dirt and grease etc. I found that with Hydro and Cam assembly already installed the only way to install was to use a secondary shaft and assemble everything on hydro control at the minimal tension. Afterward I was able to gently tap the set up shaft out and everything remained in place for installing into tractor. While the design is not perfect once the friction cone has the key to stop it from rotating I am able to tighten collar and add significant tension to the control arm. It does allow for about a half inch of easier play in both directions before the resistance engages. Easier is not totally loose. It's basically the tension of the cam wedged between the cam block and the cam attachment brackets. Here you can see the keyway. Note the slot on the friction cone I marked friction cone so I could more easily align everything as I installed. I had to insert the shaft through the frame side rail before inserting the key. NOTE the raised dot on collar. I had not paid any attention to this until I got to this point. It helps keep everything aligned.

I had a 99 Taco. Now an 06 Tundra. Funny I was the only kid in the group not allowed to have a mini bike. Another friend had a Honda QA 50. My beagle would chase after him when he rode by. But Snoopy would always have to stop and wait because he could out run it!

Im ready for winter!! I got all of my snow attachments on today. First off is my 1993 520-H with 494 hours. Second is my 1990 212-H with around 1518 hours. Third is my 1988 212-6 with 383 hours. Last but not least my 2007 315-8 with 167 hours. I swear the 212-6 and the 315 will go through just about anything!! The 212-H with the plow will be for clean up. I think its funny how the two 200 series look so small but they can do a lot!

Don't forget. Nobody actually "worked" on that show either. Andy would play the guitar at the jail, There would be 20 guys at Floyd's but no one was getting a haircut, Thelma Lou was at home, Barney wandered all over on foot. There was never a car at the gas station getting worked on, Andy would take the patrol car fishing. Helen was the closest with a job but she had one class and always had time to show up at the jail and complain about Opie. They had that one couple that fought like cats and dogs all the time but I can't remember their names.

I use the AG's on the front because they don't seem to slide as much as turfs and I don't want to wrap a chain around a front tire. They are on backwards because they are supposed to be for a non driving wheel. Those blower wheels keep it out of the gravel and make it easier to move around when it's off the tractor

I thought we would see a few more Snow Team Pictures. None of mine have a cup holder. I feel like I forgot a vital detail! THe rubber chains won't leave marks, but they will still spin. Regular chains aren't too bad on concrete, but they will gouge blacktop pretty bad. I use 2-link v-bar chains on the gravel and ice at the cabin. Incredible traction, but devestating to anything underneath. I've also added diamond pattern chains on the ags on the loader. I saw a set that Knutson had, and was so impressed that I tried them. Huge improvement over Ag traction, especially on the ice.

Don't know what make this is but I gave $10 for it at our local T&E show a few years ago, been resting in the barn since then. All of a sudden I'm feeling the urge to put an engine on it.

Just so ya know...if I would have went with my penciled in picks...I would have not missed a game this week. I did not go with those picks. Kay Sara..Kay Sara. I was looking at having some fun at the game next week...does not look like that is going to happen. Looks like it is going to be painful...so be it. The worst thing happened that could...both Illinois and Northwestern lost. Congratulations to both Iowa and Michigan...can you tell I do not mean that?? What ever!!! It was a long week. There is no emoticon for the week I had. It's OK...I am not complaining...just life at it's worst. Guess what...I am still here. Licking my wounds.

Update - Deck adjusted, Bud's stack arrived and it mounted - sweetness and pure redneck - correct for Georgia. Al those heat stressed wires! Simple crimper and some 14 ga wire in several fun colors (I'm not a purist so may make it 'perfect' sometime later - proper connectors and all. Seat interlock was intermittent until sprayed with electronic cleaner. Even found that the bad ammeter was just corroded so that's going, too. Seat pan arrived Friday from a 500 series and that plastic mess is in the trash. Runs and mows like mad! I even like the bit of smoke the engine gives off the stack with hard throttle. Reminds me of my cousins' Allis back in old NJ. Good times. Now that I know she works, I can take the winter and break her down for stripping and paint. Enjoying this immensely.

I used to work at a GM dealership. Brand new cars that have never been driven would have rotors that were rusted so bad they had to be replaced. The mechanics said it was the cheap steel they used

Drop in the bucket compared to a box store new piece of crap. Wise investment you made keeping a proven performer alive to work another decade or two.
