12 pointsHello Horse fans. We've all had a chance to get something cheap enough for no reason so, why not. And people say $50 don't buy much. However, it does buy a C120 sitting for 15 years. New battery and fuel line was all it took. Will get a bath and better pictures tomorrow!

6 pointsNot sure what the bracket in the first picture was for, but I used that to hold the back of the receiver. Appears plenty stout for my needs. The receiver attachment piece slips over the 1”x 1” angle on that bracket. A 1/2” x1/2” angle welded in the receiver attachment piece helps keep it from twisting or moving back into the housing. A 3/4” x 1.75” x 6” block of oak slides in the attachment piece under the 1” x 1” angle and keeps that side of the receiver from tilting up when there is a load on the towing side. Then 2 supports tied to the bottom boss on the housing taking the bulk of the load. The 2 supports also lock the block of oak in place. Takes about 3 minutes to put it on or remove it, though I doubt I’ll be removing it. Heaviest loads will be my log splitter or my 3’ x 3’ x 2.5’ tall wood cart. Already moved the wood splitter with no issues.

4 pointsOctober 3, 1955, the first edition of in Great Britain; it quickly proves to be a hit. Now known as the Guinness World Records book, the annual publication features a wide range of feats related to humans and animals. The inspiration for the record book can be traced to November 1951, when Sir Hugh Beaver, managing director of the Guinness Brewery (founded in Dublin in 1759), was on a hunting trip in Ireland. After failing to shoot a golden plover, Beaver and the members of his hunting party debated whether the creature was Europe’s fastest game bird but were unable to locate a book with the answer. Thinking that patrons of Britain’s pubs would enjoy a record book which could be used to settle friendly disagreements, Beaver decided to have one produced. He hired twin brothers Norris and Ross McWhirter, the founders of a London-based agency that provided facts and statistics to newspapers and advertisers. The book was intended to be given away for free in pubs to promote the Guinness brand; however, it turned out to be so popular the company started selling it that fall and it became a best-seller. An American edition debuted in 1956 and was soon followed by editions in a number of other countries.

4 pointsEarly morning with the Hotsy. Big believer in Citri Blast and Cascade. I did get everything cleaned and I think it's a good candidate for a repaint. No dents or holes. Surface rust isn't bad but, I do like the wet look. LoL 🤣. Also, I did get the original rear tires with it and do hold air, no cracking. I can see myself adding more C series to the collection. Show more pictures later! Enjoy your morning Horse fans! 🌞 Apologies for the hazy photos but I had my washer set at 280°. Can't stand greasy build up!

3 pointsI never used the antifreeze in any of my campers. I connected a compressor to the water intake and used it to blow all the water from the system. I opened all drains, sink and shower faucets, and blocked the toilet valve open. Then after everything was drained, I closed everything and starting with the one farthest from the intake, opened the faucets and valves one at a time until I saw zero mist. I did pour a cup of antifreeze in each drain trap. Always blocked the toilet waste valve open so it never got stuck closed over the winter.

3 pointsIve made a few bumpers without the grill guard, mainly for looks but do come in handy when hauling them to tie them down. The tractors with the flip up hoods require something detachable for engine access and kinda more trouble than they are worth in my opinion. The 857 doubled as a weight bracket also but had to make it lower for the hood to flip open. I have since removed it and painted red but haven't put it back on. The 701 was just a winter time project to pass the time but I thought it suited the little tractor.

2 pointsWife just told me "It hurts to sit" I immediately asked if she had tried a laxative. I am now getting the death stare.
-
2 pointsBusted cam = no valves opening = lots of compressionI Also no rattle or hitches so my vote is rod came off the crank close to the crank
-
2 pointsSoooooooooooo...... How do you blow an engine put puttin around at a tractor show?
-
2 pointsYou probably need to be careful how hard you pull with that hitch - it looks like the centerline of the hitch ball is above the centerline of the back axle. Pull too hard, or going up an incline will make the front of the tractor light, or encourage a flip over. Leaving the trailer's toung jack low to act as a wheelie bar will reduce the chances for bad things to happen.

2 pointsGot the 520-HC vanguard swap just about completed. Still not charging. I have a new stator coming today. Old one was only putting out 4.5 VAC. Here's the build thread: I used a Jeep muffler from amazon for the stack.

2 pointsGot the heart transplant completed last night with the new wiring done. New motor runs good without issues. Just needs a few loose ends done on it like a oil change and a air box gasket etc. Got the transmission drained of what little oil and water was in it along with a new shifter boot on order. Took the remnants of the broken brake rod off and I’m waiting on the new rod to come in to fabricate the replacement. I was also able to get the old seat pan off and have some material on order to fabricate a mount for the new (well to me) seat I sourced. More to come soon! IMG_9424.mov

2 pointsNo need to cross the pond. Every good french friy maker ( Thrashers, Brickers, etc.) have vinegar available. I had vinegar fries today at the Steam O Rama tractor show. Mrs. K. makes a sweet and sour sauce with bacon, hard boiled eggs and lettuce. One of my fave summer salads

2 pointsBrine, vinegar and dill seeds is about all that is in there, the ratio of each is up to you. My Grandmother added sugar and garlic making a sweet dill pickle. The juice from those pickles would pickle onion slices overnight as well as hard boiled eggs. Too bad my wife doesn't like pickles, writing this puts me in the mood to make up a batch.,

2 pointsNice! Do consider adding a lower support from the engine to the underside of the elbow area of the exhaust going to that Jeep muffler. One reason is the vibrating weight, the other is snagging any overhead obstructions.... Here is what I did on my 854 when I went to a stack glasspack exhaust.

2 pointsLike Richard said, trailer wiring harness. I've purchased a few at Harbor Freight. The #14 wire separates easily. The colors won't all match the factory but I really never worried about that. Electricity is color blind.

2 pointsActually, the number of banged up, bent, mangled hoods I've seen in person or on this site would indicate a strong need for bumpers for many / most tractors and their operators...

1 pointA farmer was driving his tractor along the road with a trailer load of fertilizer. A little boy of eight was playing in his yard when he saw the farmer and asked, 'What've you got in your trailer?' 'Manure,' Farmer replied. 'What are you going to do with it?' asked the boy. 'Put it on my strawberries,' answered the farmer. The boy replied, 'You ought to come and eat with us, we put ice-cream on our strawberries.'

1 pointI have only found one situation where a bumper would have been nice, but probably not too helpful. When I was about 12 or 13 I rear-ended my dad's truck while we towed the 310 out of the mud, but that was more of a statement on the difference in the quality of the brakes between the two vehicles. On the 8XX tractors the front tires stick out past the front of the hood far enough to do the job well, unless you run into something with the point of the hood.

1 pointThe 8 speed with 1 1/8" axles and a 8 pinion differential is the strongest transmission. I do know guys that are using the 8 speed w/ 1" axles that have not had any issues running a stock engine. The tranny in my puller is a 6 speed w/ 1 1/8" axles. It use to have a 10 pinion diff but I made tranny gravel out of that. I have since retro fit an 8 pinion diff into it. The 8 pinion has been holding up well with my stock-ish 14hp engine.
