Ut Oh! I started something! I have a couple of old Military Jeeps I play around with. A 1953 M38A1 and a 1964 USMC M38A1. Have always loved old Jeeps and tractors. My dad was CO of 1st Hospital Company in DaNang Vietnam 1968 to 1969. I've installed the decals that he had on his Jeep in Vietnam. The Jeep like my dad had in Vietnam Dad in DaNang 1968 Giving rides. Dave

Walked around on stilts the better part of yesterday and this afternoon installing framework to mount ceilings to. Bit wobbly at first but now I've got the hang of it I raised the stilts by about 10cm/4" (total height 70cm/~27") to make installation even easier.

Two vendors on this site sell 2" hitches. Both are excellent. Wheel Horse Parts & More https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/forum/141-wheelhorse-parts-and-more/ K&B https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/forum/177-kb-horse-parts/ I’d urge caution raising the ball too high above the axle. If you do, keep the tongue wheel down and on or very close to the ground. Wheelies are not advised when pulling a trailer. Also, the brakes on wheel horses barely work for the tractor, much less a trailer... slow and flat is the mantra.

Normally, pictures are demanded of unique tools, tractors or techniques... however, in this case the moderators thank you for not providing pictures of your Dyno...

Hi! I'm looking to see if i can get some help with my grandfather’s RJ-58 Serial # 21259. The tractor has a Kohler K91 engine on it. I know this tractor has the original plow as well. I’m just looking to see what I can do to make the tractor last and keep it in good condition. I don’t know much about it.

We changed the brake pads and rotors on my nephew's truck and my van last weekend. What to do with those old rotors? Well, since they fit perfectly on a 12" rim we made some inside/outside wheel weights out of them. Outside Inside

I've been confused ever since the 875 flipped and threw me under the trailer. Trying to watch Nevada lose the LLWS also has my BP too high.

Years ago, I saved an old Wheel Horse from a scrap pile for $40. Finally looking at getting it together now. I'm finishing up on my old Ariens Garden Tractor steering and then I'll get on the old Wheel Horse. It's in the shipping container and when it gets a little cooler, I'll pull it out for some better pictures. Looking forward to getting some information on this. Others have suggested it is a 1961 Suburban 551 from the pictures. Thanks, Dave No engine.

I know I’m not the only one around here that finds it kind of amazing how perfectly good re-purposable stuff goes off to the scrapyard for pennies a pound or simply thrown in the trash. I made a great back yard fire pot by bolting together a pair of brake drums that came off a semi my friendly local alignment shop gave me for next to nothing. I topped it off with a recycled grill and now it is one. It’s pretty impressive for a piece of junk if I do say so myself. It’s hurricane proof in any case! Lolz

Got this text from @Stepney this morning. I can honestly say I don't know anyone who knows more about various tractor and equipment models over the years. He's thinking it's a Terramite.

Sure wish there was a sure fire answer for this question. Flushing and refilling is a bit of a gamble. The inside of those cases is not painted. If left unattended for any length of time, rust forms and is pretty hard to get out without disassembly. Flushing pretty much will remove the watered down oil but in the past I have found the rust that forms on the inside of the case on top remains. Of course the best is to disassemble inspect and clean. @stevasaurus has good vids for this on the tube. Does require some general mechanical ability. This case was flushed and then disassembled, note the rust on the top of the case. One indicator is the dip stick, if it is real rusty that is telling you something. A magnetic drain plug can help but has limitations.

Stern has a place on or near the ocean not too far from me. I know a guy that went to work for him as a caretaker for his property. This guy knows the caretaking business and has worked for some prominent people over the years. Two weeks after working for Stern he quit. He said he was a complete jerk and spoke to people in a very condescending manner. I agreed with him when he said that there’s too many nice people to work for than deal with someone like that!

IDK how many times I could have used these over the years and finally ordered me a set. Some of the terminals I have worked on I could release and save but a bunch I could not . I hope the days of sticking them precision screwdrivers I had been using in my hands and fingers are over. Surely there sumin in this kit that will cover all the terminals I will ever come across from here on out . These seem well made with a handle that you can hold on to. Will try and replace the 9 pin connectors on my 520’s with new 9 pin connectors instead of replacing with 2 4 wire trailer connectors. Me being a purist ya know.

When loading a standard drawbar, also realize that it is not designed to carry a heavy tongue load. Downward force on the bar becomes upward force on the tab pressing against the underside of the transaxle casting. The strength of the drawbar is pulling load!

Or put a ball on the front which raises it and no flipping. The con is it's hard to steer

Holy crap Dan I missed that! Yeah we are gonna need more pics of that. You might now know it Dave but we call those tombstones and highly sought after. All of 600 fer sure. Get us a good picture of lettering on front to see if it's real. I'm betting it is.

You can tell by the bracing under the hood for the battery location and the rear plate where the trans mounts it's a 551. Would have come with the Tecky.

I have two of Brian's hitches. Definitely recommend them. He also offers top shelf customer service and a great price. This is well said. Several of us have moved larger loads over the years. It's a process to be taken very seriously. Juat yesterday we moved our camper with one of my tractors. This is a specially prepared rig built for heavy duty towing.

Probably would not be a bad idea to use that store brand motor oil (30 wt?) as a flush. Diesel fuel will work here, too. After the flush, drain it again and refill with 80wt gear oil - store brand here is adequate. As part of the flush procedure, you need to run the tractor around for a few minutes, including tight right hand and left hand turns and run it in all gears to thourally circulate the flushing fluid and try to get the crud in the transmission stirred up and suspended in the oil so it gets drained out. When draining the transmission, it helps to raise the front of the tractor as high as safely possible for you. There is a hump in the floor of the transmission, and raising the front of the tractor allows the oil ahead of the hump to get to the drain plug.

I have lived in my home since 88. House is on a main highway. Thought I'd seen everything. But tonight took the cake. Wife heard a noise out front when cooking dinner. Someone was broke down along the side of the road. I finally look out and there is a 4 x 8 trailer with a couple of tons of pea gravel on it. The right side tire is flat and off the bead. 2 guys standing there and lets just say English isn't their primary language. I go out to see if they need help. I ask " where's the spare?" They say " the house. " Someone is bringing it. I look at their jack. It's a 12v POS. I offer to help with my jack and impact. Spare arrives. It's the wrong one. It's a 15" and the trailer is13" So off they go. They come back about a half hour later and he's got this little bag.I'm thinking, that ain't no tire! He pulls out a Gatorade and 2 CANS OF EXPANDO FOAM!!!!. I ask where is the tire? " Wal-Mart didn't have it " I tell them to go to TSC. I Tell them about 10 times. But this guy is determined to use the foam! There is a chunk out of the tread and a slit in another spot. He tries to filling the slit and empties both cans into this tire. Another guy shows up with another trailer and they shovel half the gravel into that. But they also move the remaining gravel to the opposite side of the trailer and towards the front onto the tongue. Tow vehicle is a mini van. When they lowered the jack the foam squirts out and the rim is on the pavement. He drove off with it like that! I don't know if I will be able to sleep tonight because I can't stop laughing! Look close at the tire!

No confusion, @Ed Kennell was showing us how he made a trailer from PVC Pipe, some netting, a green tote and a four caster stool, not something you see every day. He was about to connect it to the front ball hitch on his Wheel Horse.

I'm not sure. Maybe 40 ish per tire. The 3/4 ton van rotors are much heavier than the 1/2 ton truck rotors. I have some front weights that might fit right into that deep dish spot on the outside rotors

  29. 3 points
You're right. I was thinking 401 at first because you can only see the angles in front of the rear tire BUT the frame of a 551 also does that. But who would want to put a Teccy on anything? I know Cas @formariz might have a spare H55 or two. I sold him one a while back.

me thinks Ed may have this thread confused with the what you did today thread, unless he hauled all that produce to the table with his Wheel Horse and hitch.

If I could add one more tidbit - use low range. You get additional engine "braking" and 2 nd gear in low is slow enough to give you to adjust if things get a tad sketchy. Even in good condition, the WH brake leaves a bit to be desired. Note that Eric has the added forward weight of the chipper to counter the tongue weight. Not a bad thing....

August 30, 1982, Howard Stern began his radio show in the New York market on WNBC, but the show gained national syndication and major prominence after he started broadcasting on New York's WXRK-FM on November 17, 1985, moving to mornings and syndicating the show in 1986. He was widely known as the quintessential "shock jock" due to his controversial and boundary-pushing radio style.

The original engine would've been a Kohler K91 but there were some made using a Clinton B1290. I would skip the Preditor engine and find a K91. Old stuff looks funny with a newer style engine on it. I'd also clean it up first and see if the patina is salvageable before just spray bombing it. Post some pics of the trans which will determine if it's a 551 or a 401. That original front weight is a rare item and worth more than the tractor itself is. Post wanted ads on here for the parts you're missing like engine, gas tank, belt guard heat shield, shifter etc. And look often on epay and FB market place

Welcome to Red Square, where there's wealth of information available in both manuals and tribal knowledge. Gotta love a $40 Suburban with a $750 weight on the front! You got great bones there to start.

Probably the most famous of those Radio folks that pushed the boundaries. Prior to that, we had a notorious Tart on a local station - WHJY. She went by the name of Carolyn Fox, her suffering sidekick by the name of Rudy Cheeks (get it?). Carolyn was born Carolyn Berman, and was a year behind me in High School. She was a wallflower then that never said a peep. The Carolyn Fox alterego was just the opposite with her gutter humor & off color jokes...

If you can rebuild even the most simple of small engines - then these particular transmissions are a piece of cake and a walk in the park.

Excellent point. A couple of things...... Flushing with diesel, instead of engine oil, is better because of its lower viscosity. This will make leaking seals - and those on their way out - very apparent. If you have one failed seal, you probably have more. Plan on changing the shifter boot for a good fitting new one. The shifter acts like a wick if it gets wet. (That is most likely how the water got in).

Morgan, the 14-8, got some exercise today hauling about 4 yards of topsoil from where the dump truck left it to where it was needed. Had help from the neighbor's 'property manager' and his son. We had sea chanties playing while we were doing the rake & shovel work. Here is where we started: And a couple views of the finished job: Next step is to seed it. Any advice for what type of seed to use in a shaded area? Initial research indicates a mix of soft fescue and tall fescue would be a good choice.

All of the above. Done almost same thing on an 857 but was hauling a big load of rock on a trailer that was about the size of 3 yard carts put together. No problem until I cut a corner to quick and caught porch steps with tire on trailer then my foot slipped off of clutch/brake pedal and stood straight up and over on its back, luckily got out of way before Horse came down on top of me. Both receiver hitch's above are great but I decided on one over the other and will gladly tell why but don't want to do it in open forum but will in a PM if anyone wants to know. It has nothing to do with preferring one seller over the other but a design feature I prefer on one.

Made a couple nice scores in the swap meet area. Super straight hood for $5. A solid U-size battery tray for $15, and this original headlight lens for $50

Yes. It lower the cost per gallon at the pump, but increased the cost per mile as it goes out the exhaust, and you pay extra taxes for the subsidies. But by the time everyone realized it was a bad deal any politician that tried to walk it back was going to loose their next re-election bid. What was that saying? "There is nothing as permanent as a temporary government program"?
