Haven’t had a Wheel Horse for about 28 years since I gave my 852 to a brother of a coworker to restore and never saw the tractor again. Just purchased a 520xi with 48” deck and single stage snow blower in good condition, 880 hours. Will pick it up Thursday as there is no rain in the forecast (Hoosiers will understand!). Semi retired Reliability Engineer so I over analyze everything. Looking forward to contributing and learning!

Well, I had a few parts hanging around cleaned up and primed so I thought I would brave the mosquitos and paint them using my paint spray gun. I have a little less blood but at least some parts got red.

At very least clean up the shaft and flywheel bore and apply Loctite bearing and sleeve retainer. give it a shot. You can't spoil a rotten egg!

I enjoy growing different kinds of peppers. With the variety of colors, it's kinda like growing colorful flowers that are actually useful. I usually start them from seed in the early part of March. This year I grew mostly sweet peppers. One of my most colorful varieties this year is Chocolate Cherry Candy Stripe Peppers. The flavor of these is very close to green peppers, maybe just a tad bit more bitter. The colors are awesome though. Next ones are called Patio Snacking Peppers. With their yellow, orange, & red colors they have a great appearance. Most of the peppers on these plants point upwards when they grow. We have been picking these off the plant and eating them as they are or maybe dipping them in some ranch dressing first. Soon I will be making Cowboy Candy with these, a sweet & spicy treat. Next up is my Cherry Pepper plants. I may have went over board when I planted these, the plants have been producing like crazy. Most of the peppers on these plants hang down when they grow. . I have been pickling some of these already. I add dill, garlic, & jalapeno. The finished product is awesome as a snack, even better in a Bloody Mary. I did say that I planted mostly sweet peppers, the next pepper is not sweet but it pairs well with sweet. My Habanero's look exceptionally angry this year. These will be used to make Habanero sauce ( Awesome on wings). Habanero Jelly (Sweet with some spice, great on anything that you would put jelly on. Also great on grilled pork). I always keep some Habanero's in the freezer to add to sweet meals like Coconut Curry Shrimp. Now I'm hungry!! Happy harvest everyone.

Grew looking peppers! Here are some of mine for you to enjoy. This year I mainly focused on growing sweet peppers that we can freeze and eat throughout the year. My favorite sweet variety is Jimmy Nardellos. I also grew a few jalepenos for pickling.

Pumpkin patch is in overdrive this year. Sunflowers, not so much. Wabbits worked them over pretty good.

I have been using this store brand rust paint from Home Hardware here in Canada. I just thin it using varsol until it is approximately the consistency of milk. I think around 10:1 give or take. I used the same brand primer in aerosol cans.

Years ago there was a local Ford dealer called Plitt Ford. I was in the market for a new car for my wife so I went and spoke to a salesman. I asked him if I buy a Taurus from this dealership, does that mean my wife is going to have a Plitt Taurus? The guy just looked at me in disbelief and said he has been selling them for years and nobody ever asked him that? 😜😂

I'm having a problem with the photo angle as well. The crankshaft should be tapered and the tail of the key rides above and locates the magnet ring to time the ignition. That magnet ring may be damaged with the failure. It appears that the crank has grooves worn in it and that may not grab the flywheel well. Any debris and high spots on the crank and in the flywheel needs to be removed and then the parts can be lapped together with fine lapping compound. The surfaces need to be completely clean and then only a wipe of rust proofing applied. The flywheel bolt torque is 55 ft. lbs. with a drop of oil on the threads and under the bolt head. What really is needed is replacement of the crankshaft and flywheel, using these parts might very well cause a failure in the future.

I keep this one around as a reminder: Completely embedded until I split it.

Good rainy day to get some much needed crab trap maintenance done while the 312H watches. Then finished the crabs we caught last week.

I had the same problem, but my output was running at around 20vdc. I solved the problem by cleaning the area of the aluminum heat sink of the regulator and where it mounted to the frame. I don't know why that worked better than a direct wire to battery ground. However, if neither grounding suggestions work, replace the entire regulator with a known-good one from a donor tractor.

Since the flywheel has obviously been spun on the crankshaft you should also take a good look inside the flywheel bore.

The best paint I've found is Rust-oleum Satin Black, you can't tell it from the Factory finish. This tractor has all OEM paint but the front black I had to redo because of several large scratches.

That flywheel had definitely spun before and probably because someone put a little woodruff key in there. I don't see that as being the end of that shaft though. Just put the proper key in it and it will hold. I'm no Onan expert and barely know them but most every other engine uses a taper fit lock instead of relying solely on a key to hold them in place for a reason. That's a straight shaft fit so the long key is definitely required

That was one of my first firewood processing tool build projects. It's made of old posts recycled from a deck I built years ago and tore down less years ago. The trailer has had at least 3 axle setups that I recall. Its current iteration seems to work well. Big enough to hold quite a load and not too big for the heavy Cinnamon Horse to pull. A lighter weight tractor would be much less useful. I've been considering adding width to the vertical posts but it works well right now.

Washed the furnace filter, did a couple loads of laundry, mowed the lawn with Morgan, after putting new anti scalp rollers on, picked up a pile of sticks & acorns my wife had raked up, carried a bunch of stuff out to the new A Liner camper, and pumped the accumulated rain water out of the pedal boat and washed it. Oh, walked the dog and took a short swim in the lake. Waiting for foil dinners to cook now.

Here is the key you need:

I installed new rear anti scalp rollers on my 42" SD deck. No bushings needed in the new rollers, as they have a 1/2" bore. Rounded edges on the rollers too - should cut down on the axial load on the snap rings that retain them. No, I didn't have my phone with me so no pictures. Y'all are just going to have to believe me!

and now we know the rest of the story!

I just did this a few weeks ago on my 161 thinking it might help when I installed the FEL. I used a 60 grit flapper wheel on an angle grinder to take the top off the axle. Washers and bearing were only 1/8" and it was surprisingly easy to take that off.

Likely just a spare as I have a dedicated mowing 520H (with a 16 Onan on it), my 520HC is the snow plow tractor, and another 520H is set up for the two stage blower. I have 10 tractors now with most of them restored (my wife thinks I'm crazy).

I'm hungry now...

@ri702bill agree on the handle set up location , done a few of those on regular horses , typically this set up has a COLLECTION OF ISSUES , NOT ONE , went after every , stage , that first swing joint going to chute , probably a rusty , cheapo , have used SNO SLIDER VINYL for a gasket slider at base of chute , PAM food lube , those blowerers are also a gold mine , for detailing , specific , chain / cable lube , greatly enhances function . good project , pete

I installed one of those HEI distributors in my mom's Mustang with the 5.0. It had a distinct lack of key-switched power sources, only a single one in fact, where I needed many. I grabbed a fuse block out of an 02-07 (old body) Taurus and used it to get multiple power wires. Hook the main bus to the battery, ground all the relays, and hook the relay control input to the single key-switched source. This provided 7 key-switched power sources, good for up to 30 amps each, off one that was originally rated for 10 amps. I used one to run the HEI distributor, with no issues so far.

As usual I'm a day late & a dollar short but here's a couple...

Today I bought two planters for the Mrs. After unloading them into my wagon I thought it might be picture worthy so I snapped one while on their way to their destination.

Well, the piebald is a buck and a shooter.

The Piebald is showing up pretty regular. Can't tell if it's a buck or doe yet.

Stocked another 1200 trout today. No railroad along these streams. We float from bridge to bridge...all work.
