Retired today - 41 years... Great run. My boss and colleagues know me well... simple but appropriate gifts...

HA! Today was my last day too. Brought the last of my tools home. Took a gauge off our defunct steam fired Absorption chiller as a souvenir. We had a fire in 2015 and when we went to put the chiller on line the water in the pipes flashed to steam and the needle spun around in circles like in the cartoons. Got well wishes from a Trane Tech who happens to be a Bears fan!

The key is to stay busy & have a sense of purpose in your life... Besides, you can only watch so many episodes of Gilligan's Island in one sitting.....

A little more progress…. drive flange complete - I made it the same PCD as my sons 4x4. (only tacked at the moment - just in case something needs to change) one side done

Tonight I finished up the C-141 headlight project. Sometimes it pays to have different hobbies as I had a bunch of 1/4 20 bolts to mount the bucket back in after a spruce up with some semi reflective silver paint. This was a test to see if everything was hooked up right. I scuffed up,where the bulbs mounted to give them a good ground. It still needed tweaking. . The final product. I put some of the fuzzy side of some stick on Velcro to act as a cushion. Now, the paint I spent a significant amount of time on shouldn't get rubbed off the lens. Don’t mind the stuff in the background 😁 This is the paint I used. It’s reflective but not overkill. The overall end result was definitely an improvement.

I found a spare at the local Tractor Supply, and cleaned out the hauler. Job complete, until I decide on a winch and any counter or storage compartments up front!

No lack of tie downs! I need to finish the PVC trim. Then clean it up inside!

Two years ago I felt like I’d never want to retire as I enjoy working way too much. But about that time my company went to a four day workweek and now the taste of freedom beckons. Let the acting begin!! Was never into it as it’s “fakeness” was obvious. My son however went thru a phase (like 10-12 years old) where he would watch it, so off to see it live in an arena we went. I was blown away by how many adults were into it!! All concerned that their “guy” wasn’t winning…per the script

We actually tried an aftermarket glass bowl filter assembly but the needle leaks on it so we thought we'd try to go back to the original unit and get an element and gasket for it.

Thank you everyone for the quick input! So it sounds like you just put the lock levers onto the existing flat plates that hang down on the tractor frame along with lock pins etc. Is that correct? The blade I have is a long frame blade from a C101 originally. I'm thinking this is simpler than I thought and I was overthinking everything? I'm just used to bolting the bracket around the square uni-drive housing in the lock levers and pins hooked to that. It looks like some of this is already provided on the 800? After 50 years this is the first time I ever encountered an 800 special type frame. This tractor will be used this plow season carefully as I repair the badly cracked rear F plate on my 855. ( I think the toolbox bolts and the belt are the only things holding the transmission in currently!) And for those moments when mother nature gets creative I have the blower on my 312–8.

I'm not familiar with this engine model but with K-series, I replace the PTO with a spare wheel hub. Any long bar run through the lug bolts to the floor will hold the crank from turning.

Never liked the front engine bug, just didn't seem right. Now they are producing the VW Microbus as an all electric unit, not too impressed, just another van.

If you have an open end wrench of that size this is a good suggestion. As long as the jaw of the pipe wrench is securly contacting the key and the back of the pipe wrench is contacting the shaft there won't be any problem, I have done it several times.

I wouldnt use a pipe wrench , they tend to mar the crank.. I'd use an open end wrench of the same size as the shaft diameter.

On another note, in july of 2019 production of the newest version of the Beetle had ceased. A far more celebratory event. Good riddance.

Handlebars and cup holders checked off the list. Still up in the air on a basket or wagon. (footpegs are in the shop for a little cosmetic touch-up) Man, this thing is smooth as butter over bumps.

@WHX?? Jim from a thread you posted about ridiculous shipping costs but this is for everyone else too . I came across an envelope in the barn and tI’m 98.641% sure that I made an order from them for flanged bronze bushing . If this is the place . I called the number , talked to someone who knew what I was wanting and I understood what he was saying for one . Two , they were cheap. Three , he just threw the four brushing into a snail mail envelope for whatever the actual cost was . I just asked nicely if he would put them into a small envelope and send them through snail mail for me . No Bs outrageous price for shipping . They have way more than just bearings too . Update, took the rectifier out, sanded and cleaned contact points, ran a ground to the battery. The back of the rectifier was dark in spots, but not burned , the plug was melted, someone rapped it in electrical type. Got the engine running, checked out the stator, 30 volts AC, that was only 3200 rpm. Needs linkage adjusted, plugged in rectifier and 14.2 volts DC at 3200.

Caught a few minutes and installed led tail light on C -160 to match the new LED headlights I installed yesterday. I got these from the jungle site and like them because they have a black base and the lens closely matches the old WH lens.

Scored this today at a local auction. I've managed to avoid painting any of my Wheel Horse stuff so far, but I'm pretty sure these didn't come in yellow, but I don't see any traces of red either. Pick it up Saturday so I can take a closer look.

I aint no sissy but I find myself reaching for a pair of gloves every once in a while, especial the older I get. To my surprise there was a shed snakeskin on top of them today and I had them laying up on a table kinda higher up. I have a pretty good size Black snake that stays around the shop (rodent patrol) but hadn't seen him in a while but now I have proof he's still around at least I hope it was a Black snake. Funny thing was I picked up gloves and shook off snakeskin which fell in front of the fan, and it took off a getting it across the floor must still smelled like a snake cause it had the dog barking which in turn scared the $^it out of me because I was still looking fer a snake. .

That might be fine on smooth roads. Up here a single row of tie downs is a guarantee of shuffling cargo. For an enclosed trailer that would mean damage to the cargo and/or trailer. A fast stop for an ignorant driver? I'd much rather have multiple rows. I'm used to open flatbeds both at work and home. Every piece of cargo gets a minimum two straps and multiple directions of tension are preferable.

A very good thought and I will try to remember it the next time I have to do a K series.

The blade listed for the 800 Special is the same as for the C-Series tractors. Using just the latch leavers attached to the existing axle support frame makes sense. Learn something new every day.

This link gives you access to all of the manuals associated with your model number. The drawing @ol550 is not in these listings but looks like it is correct for a long frame snow plow. There should also be a couple of latches that will hold the rear cross shaft of the plow in place. If I remember correctly all you need are the latches as the frame has the U shaped part built into it. My 800 Special is about 35 miles away from me at present'

Yeah, I plan on keeping it for some future project. I noticed that the back side is stamped with perfect detail of the emblem. I think it could be used to create a mold of some sort.

Today after a Zoom meeting I had in the morning. I worked on the C-141’s loose hub, and accidental red oversprayed headlight lens. After a paint thinner wipe on the clear part of the lens, and a wipe of the bulbs it was all set. the old setscrew (left) and the new (right) After a clean off with some PB Blaster and a skim of high temp wheel bearing grease I was going to put the old hub back but it still wobbled so…. 3 hours later… I robbed one off the trailer I have. I swapped the old warped hub for the identical and in better condition good hub on the trailer. Once that was on, I put the tire back on, I was done. It seemed to be much more solid feeling.
