That appears to be a 1960 Suburban give or take... the first "Wheel Horse" was made in 1956. Pics of engine installation / sides & back would be helpful. Also---all 4 wheels and tires are wrong for originality. Be prepared for much lower offers.... Tony

I have arrangements to pick that one up on Saturday morning. Plans are to pass it on to my BIL as a thank you for several things that he helps me out with. Not sure why the status on that has not been changed.

I made the decision and purchased a Kawasaki Mule. The following factors influenced by decision: 1) Price 2) Towing capacity 3) Cargo Bed Load 4) Reliability. The family, especially the Mrs. are very happy with it.

It depends on the lube you use and how hard you work it. Don't overthink it. Pull the dipstick when you do any service. You'll know when to change it. If in doubt, do it.

This afternoon I decided mow along the side of our county road~about 1/8 mile long. One side is maintained by the land owner, the other not so much. The grass is getting knee high-and much of it taller. Our county roads are chip and seal which is nice and the side I was mowing basically has no ditch. It seems the county only mows once a season. The problem with overgrown grass is the road way appears to be smaller and bi-passing drivers hesitate to pull into the edge of the road. I used the 520H and it completed the task quite well. I don't think our zero turn would have handled the job at hand as efficiently and comfortably. Having the weight on the front end and a steering wheel was an asset. For the past several years, I have also sprayed weed killer around the stop sign because the Johnson grass will block the view of traffic until the nose of the vehicle is nearly on the state highway.

Spent the last few days cleaning up my tree line along the property. Wheel horse is definitely a big helper. Loaded up the trailer about 12 times to drive it all down the the big pile. Going to be getting a chipper here in a few days to make it all go away. Coming along nicely, I can finally walk into my tree line.

Thanks guys. I did remove the PTO switch from the console and it tested okay. I later found the ground wire bundle from the battery was loose. Pitiful on my part. After putting everything back, the problem is fixed. The grounding wire is a problem with this aluminum block engine. John

If the machine has the Eaton 11 (has a spin on oil filter on the left side under the seat pan) the drain plug is the main plug located under the rear housing and requires a 1/4" hex wrench. If it has the Eaton 7, (no oil filter) This transmission has two separate oil compartments. One is the hydro (10w-30 oil) that is dedicated to hydro pump and is captive. The other is rear gearing lubrication. Takes 80w-90 and drains from the main plug located under the rear housing and requires a 1/4" hex wrench. The Eaton 7 hydro system can be drained and refilled. The drain plug is an o-ring plug located under the pump unit on the right side.

Was that you I was mounting tires for Richard ... the A60 maybe and brand new ones split wide open? I was mounting the tires on the RJ -35 and used the original tubes since they were the old skool real heavy quality back then type. On one a very small leak... goll dang it... I threw some contact cement on it and stuffed it in. Not for highway use...

Things add up quickly No oil pan gaskets on the shelf so I ordered two, I need solid mounts for the recently acquired c-161 and that isn't even in the shop yet, it needs wheel studs so ordered them from M-C and forgot to order head bolts for the 16 Auto so I'll pay shipping twice for that lack of paying attention. I was going to order a soft start for the electric clutch but I better slow my roll before the Colonel looks at the checking account One potential positive is that the valve lash was out enough to maybe account for some of the rough running. Intake .011 and exhaust .014. They look good and nothing else is concerning so I'll just lap and adjust them until there's a need to go further.

Okey Doke for non believers. I could have done a better job cleaning up the straggler grass by mowing on the return trip, but didn't want to throw cut grass on the roadway. Makes the motorcyclists wary of grass slick surface. The skid marks on the road arn't from me going through the gears on the 520. They from last fall when I had a camper trailer brake locking up. That prompted new shackle bolts, repairing trailer brakes and repacking wheel bearings. Now, if I just had time to go camping. Retired for three years and spend less time camping than when I was working. Guess I should go back to work?

Come on Ed, you know they wouldn't make it that logical. In the case of the 1985 314A it is a 700 but the 417A and 418A both came with the 1100 and the 516H had an Eaton 700. The only hard and fast rule with Wheel Horses is there are no hard and fast rules.

Kind of a side note, but I have a '68 Commando 6 that was on the floor for 2 years and never sold, so the dealer put on an electric start 8hp Kohler and swapped the dash for the new plastic style. It was restickered and sold that year. I bought it from the original owner.

I wonder if the 6 speed was installed at the dealer as part of the original sale. It's known that dealers in the 60's would change some things around to complete a sale. I find it hard to believe the WH assembly line ground to a halt to install a different transmission and any related hardware.

On the hydros, just leave the filter loose until you've got at least 4 qts back in it. That lets the air out. Never had to do that on an 8 speed. Air can escape from around the shifter.

The plumbers showed up today. Unloaded their mini excavator and waited for all of the utilities folks to mark where their various pipes and wires are located - none of which were in the area where the digging was going to take place. But, tis the law, and better to be safe than sorry. About 6 1/2 feet down, the sewer pipes were located. Big soggy soft spot around the house trap. The trap (clay piece) appeared to have a crack on the inlet side. Lots of buildup in the pipes, suggesting a slow flow for some time. The house trap is now gone, replaced with about 7 feet of 6" PVC and a clean out tee. Back fill is scheduled for tomorrow.

The pto switch gets it's power from the No Mow in Reverse module. I should rephrase that - gets it's power from the ignition switch but the NMR module controls the pto clutch. There is a test procedure for the switch. Click on the picture of it. Module test proceedure

Depending on the model - I find it easier to remove the shifter & fill thru that hole. The 854 is a snap that way, the C81 is not...

Ya know, I could really use a top of the line UTV for my sprawling 1/3 acre homestead! Funny story about UTV's ( I know but I have a million of them!) We had a couple of Kubota UTV's at work for plowing snow and hauling mulch. The lead guy in the Nursing home shop had to move some furniture so he enlisted the painter and another guy in our shop to help. They were going to use one of the UTVs'. Those 2 guys were wound tighter than a crick rock and our guy (Josh) was pretty mellow. They were going to do the job after lunch. at the same time our new building was being constructed and there were contractors all over the place. So they meet and go out to get the UTV and the lead guy (John) says there it is and goes and drives it over. Josh looks at it and thinks man the grounds guys beat the crap out of this thing. It's all rusted and dented. "Are you sure this is ours?" So they spend a couple of hours moving furniture.. Meanwhile the electrical contractor can't seem to find their rented Kubota UTV so they think it's stolen and call the cops. They get there and start the search but somehow the guys evade the cops for over an hour. finally they get pulled over and surrounded by 2 cop cars. It was then they closed the tailgate and the words "ADMAR RENTALS appeared on the gate.

In the ongoing saga of the mowing decks, I swapped over to my 37”SD to mow while I fix up the 42” RD. It’s still roaring. From what I’ve had apart on the 42”RD, it seems good but I’ll give it a good once over and figure out what’s off on it. It came from the small engine graveyard up the road so who knows the last time it had maintenance. While moving things around I had help from my 9 year old nephew. He’s got it pretty down pat now. He drove both tractors and my ATV out from the basement/workshop and parked the tractors where they are in the picture. As I said before he gets a significant amount of experience with clutches and everything that goes with operating something like this so I wasn’t concerned.

You would think I would know that since I have a 1987 418-C with a Kohler Magnum Twin. The 1987 wiring for the 418 A will get the job done for you

I spray both the surface and the back of the decals with Windex. This allows you to move the decal around very easily. And if it starts to grab, peel it back and spray it again. The Windex evaporates overnight so you can't use too much. When you finally get it where you want, a squeegee works but isn't required. I just rub it down with a folded microfiber cloth from the center towards the outside with light pressure. Never had a single bubble to work out. I have some of Terry's decals that were installed 20 years ago that still look great. None have ever turned loose!

That is a nice tiller and appreciate when someone try’s to sell everything a buyer would need to operate the attachments. One small note for potential buyers. The cable tube (curved) and the longer clevis for the cable is specifically for a for hydro Wheel Horse. The lift tube (straighter) and shorter clevis are readily available and affordable for Wheel Horses with manual transmissions.
