Busy day Wheel Horsing around: Picked up this non running 1054 this morning about 1 hour away from my house. PO said it's been sitting in his garage for 25 years. He has a bunch of Cub Cadets and a couple Cub High Boys that belonged to his father and working to slowly sell. Engine was free, shifted into all gears so I decided to give it a go. Cleaned and flushed the fuel system, had no spark so cleaned the points, added my special tractor fuel and it fired right up. Managed to get the engine oil and trans oil changed before calling it a night. Oh, and bonus, it has a K301 swap. So 2 more HP for future plowing. Doesn't have a seat back, front grill, and start/gen belt cover. More to come on this. I may have planted a little too much cover crop in the fall, but it sure did plow nice. Although not enough to have an official plow day like the WI @WHX??and MI @Pullstart ones. IMG_9441.mp4

Got this pair of 7s out of winter quarters and a bath & some up keep. Gotta like them hubcaps on the 701 eh @Lane Ranger? I got a pair of Lowell's but just can't see to take those off. I get such a laugh when the "best used by" date rolls around! They are tops off creamer bottles he was passing out at the BS.

Looking for any info on a 1979 Old Town Canoe Fiberglass . I bought this back in 1993 from a good friend because of the unique hull pattern and flooring on this model. I have used it twice because in 1994 I bought a brand new Old Town Katahdln and couldn't pass on the 1979. This has always been garaged since purchase. I spoke with the original selling dealer before he passed and this is what he told me. It was built for The Boy Scouts but after or during production OT found out another Company had the rights to the Birch Bark design and was forced to stop production. Anyone associated with the Boy Scouts maybe could shed light on this @Ed Kennell OTHERS. I believe the floor is made from Balsa wood and has a unique pattern like a parkay type floor. Have decided to put this up for sale and other '' toys '' that I don;t really need anymore. I have also contacted Old Town 3 times since purchase and no one could give me ANY info other than the year built which I knew from the ID tag. It is not even in their 1979 brochures on Canoes.Enjoy the pictures Guy's.

At the end of summer last year my D-160 started weeping fuel like a SR-22 Black Bird sitting on the tarmac waiting for take off. Today I decided to pull the tank & see what was going on. After a good wire brushing things did not look good. Figured that I would try silver soldering the holes & low spots up. Took some time, don't look real pretty but at this point I believed that I had it sealed up. Here is a trick to check your work if you do some thing like this. Make a paste out of water & baking soda. Brush it over your work and allow it to dry. Once it is dry put some gas in the tank and allow it to sit. If you have a leak the past will show exactly where it is. It will turn yellowish where ever the gas seeps through.. My paste stayed nice & white except for 2 little spots that were stained by left over flux. These spots did not grow when I put gas in the tank so it should be ready to install again. Just wanted to share this leak detecting trick with you all.

Used my 314-8 and Wheel Horse Tiller attachment at our county museum today. Two garden plot areas where tilled for the planting of prairie grasses and wildflower. I learned the split rail fence around the plots is called West Virginia Split Rail!

Those that have followed me at the plow days know (and smell it in the air)....it's100LL (low lead) octane aviation fuel. Similar to racing fuel and these old engines love it!!! No ethanol.

Sweetened the garden and fruit trees with it's annual treatment of @roadapples. Miss ya Jay. Rest easy my friend.

It was in the 60’s so the group came out for a triple side shot. The 308 got salt cleaned out, the 312 did a test mow as the front yard needed it. I also took a ride on the C-141 too. I got some seat time on them all.

Took the 418-8 out today with 50” mid-mount grader blade to fix my neighbors driveway. It was really just an excuse to get a little seat time and make them happy at the same time. Forgot to take pictures during the job so I snapped a few when I got back home.

Washed the dirt off the plow mule and the salt off the snow machine... @Pullstart's plow day dirt is reacting with my dirt... maybe it will grow 10 mm sockets and a Money tree...!

In addition to the smell, the other problem at @Pullstart's plow day were the contrails... (not to be confused with the @WHX?? and @Achto post-curd ingestion contrails)... couldn't see straight enough to keep a straight furrow...

Got the 1076 and the tiller running and tilled the garden. Works fine but it is quite different pulling a tiller vs pushing my front mounted tiller. Now I need to install them both on the same tractor.

Then and Now is business that you call and actually talk to a person, a nice person. Someone that is willing to help you. I’ve dealt with them a few times over the years buying fuel pump rebuild kits. I would highly recommend them!

You can smell him coming before you see him! That’s a good thing when we’re talking tractor exhaust, not @squonk exhaust…

Second Wheel turned out much better. Painting wide wheels is a different animal than regular ones. Getting way inside the dish produces alot of overspray. But I found a better method on the second wheel by standing it up, placing a bag on the backside and painting about 1/3 of the way round and using a heat gun to firm it up before moving to the next third. Sounds strange but it works. First one might need some touch up, but I'm done for today.

Picked up this C-81 today in Big Indian NY (Catskills). Bit rougher that I was looking for but the price was right! Haven’t run in probably 3 years, so will need a lotta going over. The steering wheel has left the chat . The soup can was removed on the Burger King parking lot near the Newburgh bridge when we stopped for lunch Saw an eagle on the way, very cool! Haven’t ran the numbers but I think it’s a 79.

One other tip for you. Run the two nuts towards the front of the plow & lock them together. Make sure that you can spin the handle freely. This allows you to adjust the plow without tools. You may ask "Won't it get out of adjustment while plowing ?'" Answer is "No", look at how worn down the share is on the upper plow in the pic below. I have never had it move on me in all the time that I have used this plow.

After work, I pulled the group out for a triple side shot Sunday, test mowed the lawn and washed the winter salt off the 308. I’m thinking the mowing deck on the 312 needs work as it’s pretty loud. I’ve got time off coming up so maybe I’ll look at it then.

There are three vital moving parts in a fuel pump. The diaphragm, the inlet valve and the outlet valve. all of these components need to be working properly for the pump to work well. The Diaphragm is drawn downward when the engine's piston moves up the cylinder, this will develop a slight vacuum in the pump drawing fuel in if the inlet valve is operating properly. If the outlet valve is closing properly the fuel will be coming from the tank but if not it could be drawing fuel down from the outlet tube preventing it from reaching the carburetor. The Diaphragm is drawn upward when the engine's piston moves down the cylinder, this will develop a slight pressure in the pump pushing fuel up to the carburetor if the inlet valve is closing properly. If the outlet valve is opening properly the fuel will be coming from the tank to the carburetor, if not there could be no flow.

Mods if I didn’t put this in the right section please move it. Well, Its been a grand total of 3 weeks since my last purchase and that I guess was a little too long! Today me and my dad took a ride to the MIDDLESEX equipment auction. Been there a few times before. First ones we picked up were those 3 push mowers. Then bought this nice giant vac leaf sucker that pulls over and has compression with the hoses! Then bought 3 toolboxes, 2 craftsman and 1 “stack on”. Then we got to the good stuff! I wasn’t really looking for any more tractors but when it price is right you gotta jump on it especially in an auction! I picked up a D-200 with a 3 point hitch. We tried to load it on the tractor but it popped but didn’t start so a carb clean and she should be a runner! It has new front tires and a very good condition original seat I think. From the time I cranked it all the gauges worked. And a plus that it has a 3 point hitch! It also came with a rear box with trailer hitch that isn’t pictured. That front sheet metal thing on the grille was the first to come off! Then the next Wheelhorse is a 310-8 with a magnum. I wasn’t even looking at it but with a price less then what it would scrap for I had to get it! It seems a little rough on the outside but doesn’t look to to bad. I didn’t try and to start that one but it has half a tank of fresh fuel and a good battery so who knows we could get lucky! Then I picked up a rear counterweight for our big tractor since I have been looking for one And then lastly my dad picked up this cool old go kart! I’ll get some better pictures tommorow. Helped a few chicks. They were having trouble navigating the curb so I gave thema lift.

Spent several hours clearing more brush and small trees from the area beside the house. We now have all the little stuff cleaned out from approximately 40 x 60 ish or so. Tools used were my Stihl MS180C gas chainsaw and this new super cute 6" battery powered limbing & trimming saw. Trina's latest tool buy. So far.... VERY IMPRESSIVE.

This is going down the drain like usual… but I sure do see them turn into some crazy clouds in my sky! Whatever they are, I don’t understand.

Only reworking one cylinder head on a V8 is akin to wiping when you're done with only one square of T.P. ..... you're taking a big chance!!

The good old boys I grew up with called ALL Chevrolets a Stovebolt, not just the six cylinders. Fords had two names, Fix Or Repair Daily or Found On Road Dead, MOPAR, Mostly Old Paint And Rust, DODGE, Dem Old Dudes Go Everywhere, GMC, Got Mechanic Coming, FIAT, Fix It Again Tomorrow, BMW, Big Money Waster.

He works at a airport Ken ... me thinks it's a fringe benefit. It's dyed blue in color and reminds me of the two stroke canned fuel.

In the interest of high quality exhaust flow, the custom tail pipe has been removed. They towed a car, so had a custom shop add the 90 to get the heat away from the front of the car. Unfortunately, that was the low point of the rear apparatuses and met the approach more than I had wished. A piece from the exhaust tidbits pile outside the shop made for a better flow. No 8” pipe Uncle Jim, but the kitty CAT 3126 should sound ok without that 4’ long muffler under there!

I finally got around to working on my 15-38HXL. I installed a new fuel filter (the one that came out was very dirty). I pulled the mower blades and sharpened them on the belt sander. I adjusted the mower deck's side to side, and front to back height. I used brake cleaner to remove a lot of old oil build up on the sides of the engine and rails. I replaced the hood hinge bolts, and straightened the bracket that hood mounts too. I used plastic restorer /cleaner on all the black plastic. It is very shiny now. I've ordered a new fuel solenoid kit because the existing connector is very loose and doesn't connect tightly. When I do that I'll also be installing a new float and float bowl gasket.

You should be OK. The land slide should sit in the bottom of the ploughed furrow. To get it there you need to turn the adjusting screw which will raise the hitch mount. This is adjusting what is called the suck. It should plow at the desired depth with no down or up force from the tractor lift. The mould board pulls the plough into the soil until the landslide hits the bottom of the furrow and it also helps the plough to run straight. Once adjusted I am sure your coulter will clear the plow. The front mount looks correct. It is welded at a angle to keep the plough flat in the furrow with the right tractor wheels down in the previous furrow.

A little chilly but a great way to kick off the tractor show season! The usual crowd Myself, Wallfish, Retired Wrencher and Docwheelhorse. No tractors bought by any of us. I did pick up the NOS belt in a sealed bag. No idea what it’s for but brand new in the bag! No brainer for $5…good wall hanger

$4.95 here for ethanol free. But thats all I run in tractors, yard equipment, snowmobiles, vintage motorcycles, etc.

I grew up living close to that dealership. I now live bout 20min away from where it used to be. Remember driving by it often. They used to have an old tractor on top of their sign along the road but I cant remember what it was. Tegner passed away in 2022. Awesome find!!

I really like to hear guys taking care of the often frowned on verticals. Yes it's not a vintage C-160 but still. Well maybe not frowned on but often neglected and used as throwaways. Keep at it buddy.

Necessity is the Mother of Butchery.... it gets an Honorable Mention in the "Fixed for Now" catagory.... Looks to be a semi-solid start.
