Hmm, 40 feet per minute. That's the same speed as a Wheel Horse 8-speed in 1st gear, low range.

I’m sharing this to possibly help anyone without a welder to repair an early short frame trans pad. This is my 655 with a 16hp kolher, I shortened the rod dipper and used a 10hp oil pan. The trans mount was cracked so I tried a hack repair instead of doing it right. It was cheep easy and is holding up well enough to just leave it there permanently. It’s a later model mule drive, axle pin bracket flipped upside down and trimmed. The holes lined up and the width firmly slid between the original rails.

I always fill to the full mark on the dip stick. I did know that oil has a shelf life, did not know how long that was. I never seem to have a container around long enough to cause concern.

I looked at 3 brands in November 2022 . Polaris , Kawasaki & Can Am. I decided on the 2023 Can Am Defender HD 7 DPS which is a single cylinder power steering 650 cc engine. Mainly the Can Am was a 3 seater because of the room in the cab and use it as a two seater with a flip up center console. Very comfortable and yes the $ 1500.00 option for the power steering is worth it to me. Added a soft cab, poly roof, 2 small side mirrors, rear view mirror, a locking cross bed tool box and a few other small items. Decided while I was at it a 72'' poly power angle plow with quick hitch type set up. All accessories are Can Am . The oil filter on the single cylinder is EASY to get at, the twin cylinder one's are not plus I don't need that kind of power, speed and more fuel consumption . This is used around the acreage and see's very little usage off the property. It is registered and insured. Hauling firewood with it is the cat's meow, very little time wasted making trips back and forth from felling to the splitting area and stacking. The dump body is great. Fuel usage is awesome. Can't say enough about it. The Polaris was very nice but the interior room to me was tight and slightly claustrophobic.Also the Polaris was more $$$$.Then comes the Kawasaki . The models I looked at were too tight in the cab as well. On the high end ones too much $$$$. VERY satisfied with the Can Am purchase. To boot the Can Am uses straight regular fuel , not sure on the others. Forgot to mention the 4500 lb Warn winch and front guard / bumper. One of the best piece of equipment I have ever purchased. Make's life a heck of a lot more comfortable and fun while doing chores. Good Luck if you decide.

Just like Wheel Horse red, any red will do as long as you like it. The same goes for wheels. As long as it's not bright white, any off white will work.

They are the "Warrior" brand. I'm taking them to work and figure after I burn all 3 up on one hole I'll leave them on the work bench and one of the guys will steal them. Then they will get mad when they won't even drill plastic!

Not all K-241s take two quarts of oil. The short oil pan units take 1 1/2 Quart and many industrial units take more than two quarts.

On the comment about dipsticks Its kinda hard to go by dipsticks when one looks like the one below. Given that most of our motors have been through many hands it's entirely possible the original stick has been replaced or modified. There was a post not long ago, Think it was from @rmaynard about more oil coming out than what was put in a motor. @Racinbob posted about measuring how much comes out comes out during a oil change and how much goes in using old juicy juice bottles calibrated by your wife's favorite measuring cup. Of all of Bob's crazy ideas this one seems to hold oil. In other words measure what you put in per the manual or published reading and see how that reads against the dipstick. Yeah I know a bit more PIA than just dumping a quart in and calling it a day but now you know how much is in it.

I do some hauling for my neighbor. Mainly to and from the butcher shop which is a 3hour rt by buggy. He always asks "vuts mu bill". I just reach out and shake his hand and thank him for outbidding the developers when he bought the farm at auction. When he is harvesting his produce, I'll often find a head of cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, or a cantaloupe in my yard. I guess it falls of the wagon.

The first page is all the tractor models for that year each with a code you take to the 2nd page for chassis grease, engine, hydraulics and transmission for quantity and lube spec. If you really want to haul stuff get a M-274 mule That tank of water weighs about 2000 lbs.

Picked up a 2001 314-8 with 234 hours. i think it’s from another member.seems in good condition Time will tell.

I bought a Quinn 1/2" ratchet/socket set it's working well for me so far. But if not they have a lifetime warranty, that's all that seems to matter these days.

I usually either fill to the full mark or just slightly above since these are splash lubricated, it wouldn't hurt to have an extra half ounce to ounce of oil in them.

That is a benefit to the swap, but the main focus was tires. It seems like the resale value of the RV has little difference on age of tires. Since there was a $4200 price tag on that rubber and we are sending her to a no reserve auction, it makes sense to keep what is valuable to us.

How many of you fill to F mark? I was looking through the manual section on Kohler motors. I found out something interesting about how much oil to put in your engine in the manual for K241 it states to put 2 quarts. But another manual that has an update is an add to the full mark. So that’s what I’ve been doing. Also, I’ve heard that stored oil being new should be used within 3 to 5 years of purchase. That’s a new one on me. I guess it pays to read. Back in the early days I just did a quick scan and never really read the fine print. so I guess it pays to read more. Also lately I can’t seem to get a tan or brown on the spark plugs. I just changed the engine oil in my C-105 and it took about 1 1/2 qts, which is what the paper manual I have calls for. One thing to note, I believe this is checked by not screwing in the dipstick. C-85

The new tires are slightly larger, if I did not mention that. With the Alcoas being a bit thicker at the hub center as well, I feel like there is a perfect amount of tire stick out. It’s like a dirt track racer of school buses

Look at the piston skirts. If you see more wear on one of them, it will be the "thrust side"

Another similarity - if you could keep the carb bowl full & get enough traction, the WH could do the same thing - no safety catch though...

I do - sometimes I take advantage of them, but I try to resist using them when I don't really "need" anything. If I go in that store I will surely walk out with a bunch of stuff I don't really need and didn't plan to get.

Been almost a month since my last post on this subject. Sooo what the heck has Dan been up to?? Well I posted some sheet metal for a C.C. that I painted black. After that I moved on to a Simplicity. Some body work followed by some white paint. More body work follow by some orange paint. This concluded the most of the Simple City side project. Rest of the Cub Cadet showed up, and I finished the rest of that up this morning. And finally I get to get back to work on my 401 project again. Spent the rest of my day assembling part of the engine. I managed to find as set of NOS OEM rings for this engine. Piston that was in the engine only had 3 rings. The NOS OEM set had more rings than a guy can collect on the first level of Sonic the Hedge Hog. . 1 in the top groove, 3 in the second groove and 4 in the third groove. @WHX?? Stopped by & gave me a hand. Thanks Jim!!! Hope to get back on track with this project. Should have more to show the next time I check in.

This is what i did today! Removed one of my RJ transmissions to replace tomorrow with a spare one i put new oil seals, woodruff keys and hubs on while i was in Florida for Florida Flywheelers in February. My oneman process used two steel milk crates! One under motor snd frsme and one under transmission so you can remove the six bolts holding the transmission on the frame ! This two crate process works pretty good!

Morning, Came across this on marketplace.. seller about 50 miles round trip.. asking $10.00. Said he’s sat on seat and it’s not rusted through but will need 2 new 4.80/4.00-8 tires. Had idea of once I get my 856 driving running again. Would it be a safe or good idea to fix this up, paint it to match 856 and have someone ride on it behind possibly with a tongue extension between the tractor hitch and sulky?

It just so happened that my brother needed a hand with a retaining wall that fell this winter and he lives just a couple hundred miles west of @HyperPete so I jumped on the PA Turnpike and went that way. Two days of some heavy lifting for guys our age but the weather couldn't have been better so we gave the machines and our selves a workout.

@Retired Wrencher consistently do a regular check over after any usage , top off fuel , trans level , engine oil , also add sta bil to that tank top off , anything out of sync? BTW since going over to rislone , zinc oil additive years ago , I have had no oil issues at all . thats a great varnish cutter , helps / enhances ring function , another repetitive opportunity , that turned out , pete

Any 4/4.8-8 tires. Wheelbarrow tires you want to keep the cost down. Be sure to tube them.
