11 pointsThe C81 I picked up last summer had a common crack issue on one side at the back end of the Hoodstand where the Z shaped bracket, rear fenderpan and seat hinges bolt on. So didn't my parts donor tractor, but on the opposite side.... Looking down on the Hoodstand it is a 3 piece spot welded construction shaped like the letter "H". The solution was to split the left panel welds and do a mix-n-match of the better parts, reinforce those corners, and reassemble with pop rivets. I used 1/8" x 1-1/2" angle iron cut to shape and drilled for four plug welds each. This was easy to do with it split apart.... almost impossible to do together... I used the original hole for a nut & bolt and 2 pair of locking pliers for the fixturing.

7 pointsI’m kind of in the same boat. After over 40 years of owning Wheel Horses I have amassed quite a bit of parts. Some of the stuff I look at and have no idea where it came from. That’s why I am thinking about not bringing any tractors to show, but instead just bringing the items that I already have two or three of and stuff I’ll just never use. Last year I posted about perhaps having a “Free” area at the show. Some of the things I have I would gladly give away, especially if it were a young kid getting into the hobby or just getting their first tractor going. I just didn’t want the free area to become a junk drop off site that someone would have to clean up. Obviously by mid day Saturday someone would have to clean up regardless, but maybe they would take it for scrap? Personally I don’t want to sit at a table the whole time at the show when I can be out buying more stuff that I don’t necessarily need 😂

7 pointsPicked it up this morning. Only 40min away. Needs some stuff to get going but everything is there, parts just in a couple boxes. Between this & the free Raider 12 I got in December I should be able to make a 1 decent tractor.

6 pointsI've amassed a substantial parts collection. Probably enough to build another tractor. Unfortunately many of the parts are the ones that don't break much. I hate scrapping stuff, but I can't save it all. Thoughts? I had an ad up, but little interest and shipping is time consuming and expensive. Definitely need to clean out this year.

5 pointsMy take exactly. My thought is to take it to the BS and just give it away.

5 pointsYou wouldn't have a NOS Leather seat for a 420- LSE tucked away in that big garage of yours by chance ? I'll start the bid at 1200. Mine is not bad, just saying. @c-series don

4 pointsMarch 14, 1900 US currency goes on the gold standard after Congress passes the Currency Act, on April 20, 1933 the gold standard ended. Gold was valued at $ 20.67 an ounce in 1900 and remained at that price until the gold standard was revalued. In 1934 it went to $39.00 and stayed there until 1971 when the gold standard ended.

4 pointsNow this is why I like doing business with the small potatoes. Guy has got Clinton parts and I needed a head gasket. Was 10 bucks + 1.90. None of this more for shipping than part BS. Sure he don't take plastic so gotta send a check but still. Worse part is I had to call the guy and he sure liked to talk. Looked up part numbers on his microfish!

4 pointsI made one with a clamp on the motion control rod and a pedal from a 269H along with a couple springs to get it to return on its own. Not pretty but it works really well. Its probably been close to a decade but it still goes fine.

3 pointsAll you guys with stuff All you guys should bring that stuff to the show if you're going. Let's build a tractor or 2 out of it and GIVE it away to a kid. Maybe do a free raffle for kids under 15 ish ?? and the prize is the tractor we build? I can bring stuff too and do most of the work and buy anything if need be. Plus there's always people that like to help so maybe we do a Red Square project. @Pullstart and I haven't came up with a show project yet so... ?? Mayne we can start a part donation thread to do it? Just spit balling some ideas Who's got the the roller to start with?

3 pointsI have a lot of parts... useable engines trannys but don't want to spend a lot of time just sitting there.
-
3 pointsLoad them all on a trailer and bring them south in June to the Big Wheel Horse show. Put out on tables and mark them $1.00, $5.00 etc. You will probably drive home empty.

2 pointsDuring this years snow cleanup , my PTO on the loader 418C just self destructed. Put the bell into my lathe and cleaned out the debris a bit. The bearing shell finally released. Parts arrive from RockAuto. I did have a Koyo bearing to compair to the Timkin. Both appear to be quality items. Don’t forget to search the web for their rock auto 5% off coupon. Some parts cleanup and install the new Timken outer bearing and the SKF inner grease seal. Back in action. Comment Wecome

2 pointsMy heavy front axle is from another brand (JD ) machine, and the 1 inch steering knuckles are too short for the trailer hub mod. So I am gonna try to modify them. They have a 3/8 tapped retainer hole drilled instead of using a castle nut like the 520. I'm gonna try and weld on some length using a 1 inch spacer drilled for 3/8 and make a different retainer. I'll grind out a deep "V" and weld it back up. We'll see how it goes...

2 points@JCM Sorry Jim, I don’t have a NOS LSE seat, but I do have a NOS LSE hood! I know it’s an LSE hood because it has the holes in the top for the brass name plate. It has no decals and never been mounted. I also have squirreled away two NOS high back late 70’s, early eighties seats. Those will be for my next restorations.

2 pointsNot a bad idea, but I don't think my wife would like that as yard art.
-
2 pointsI've processed the same thoughts a few times. We already have several project tractors ahead of us. And... We have enough spare parts to build at least 3 more tractors. We won't need to clear out this coming year but this assortment will need redistribution sometime.

2 pointsBuild customs out of them. Those parts are easier to move around once they're on wheels!
-
2 pointsNot disagreeing with you, but what is the history here? Regulators are rugged but not invincible. I’d start with the regulator diagnostics in the documents above. One thing I look for is the “left” relay must close to switch from “starter” mode to “generator” mode (this one is not adjustable even on adjustable regulators). If it doesn’t close, then no charging--could be no juice from generator OR could be a regulator fault.

2 pointsYears ago I read a magazine article about weathering certain aspects of a model. I've also seen other build articles mentioning the following trick... Scale model tires are molded just like most other parts. That process leaves lines and dots. Real tires obviously don't have either so to increase realism I remove them. Sanding works. But this rotational tool method is neat too. I'll be switching to a more powerful drill but the pics show the idea. On the rear section, one of the many modifications to this trailer is to move the entire rear suspension back several scale feet. On the full sized trailers the back tires were actually setting past the back of the tank body. To help strengthen the model as a whole I decided to add a plate between the suspension frame and tanker body. I used black sheet styrene cut to fit. The sheet styrene adds to the total glued area by having the cross members involved all the way across. Same basic idea for the landing gear. I widened it and set it on a similar plate. After painting it'll look like a standard full sized trailer modification done by a cheap boss looking for a strong functional piece that didn't have to be sent out to a fabrication company. The landing wheel's axle was actually broken in the kit so I figured, what better place to add the wider section. To create the addition my intention was to add a piece of tube styrene over the axle.... but it hasn't arrived yet. Could I wait? Absolutely. Would a real world company wait? No. So I made a repair addition section by slicing (carefully) a piece of C channel into an angle. Glued the whole assembly together. When dry, I'll paint it and install the assembly.

2 pointsWe take our gas dryer down off the pedestal it shares with the washer once a year to remove the back, front & drum to give it and the vent hose a through cleaning. It is a PITA to grab it from the rear, so I added a pair of Garage Door Handles. Truss head screws, Thick fender washers & nylock nuts. Much better...

2 pointsThis is the sunstrand rocker. I guess if you put a ball end pin in the back of the eaton rocker you could get the vertical motion you need. I don't see it the picture oh Matts part above. Also not sure the pivot points are in the same location.

2 pointsI do like anti size idea I have used many times on different parts of the tractor like axel hubs and unfortunately enough to take a steering wheel off without having a 20 ton press I’m a head of the game there so that’s why I use it. Ohh also the front axel shaft or pin.

2 pointsI made a deal on this tractor today. A GC 1720 with FEL and backhoe. Also included a York type landscaping rake, a chain drag harrow, and a sizeable dual axle trailer (with a title!). He threw in some scaffolding sections that were on the trailer as well. Pictures tomorrow.
