17 pointsFirstly, forgive my mess because I'm stuck indoors and I'll clean up when I can open the garage again. I welded a hitch reciever to my welding table for using my mini crane and for using my tire changer. But I got to thinking that it wouldn't take much weight on the crane to tip the table. So I made a folding outrigger to support it. I won't lift anything heavier than a Kohler or Onan, and I'll stay inside the 90 degree space formed by the outrigger. My back just won't tolerate moving an engine from the tractor to the table. We'll see how it works soon. At least it looks neat... and Rubble approves! Or maybe he just likes the heater...

8 pointsThank you! I'd love to have an overhead setup but my garage doesn't have support big enough in my opinion, and I don't have the avaliable steel currently to build one. There is a decent one at Harbor Freight but it's outside my price range at the moment. I got the idea of making the crane setup from Don @Lee1977. I can move it to the tractor whenever needed outside.

7 pointsSo I’ve visited this site many times over the last couple years and got some really great info but finally made an account last month. I’ve had a 77 C120 for the last couple years that I used for mowing and snow removal with a blade. A month ago I bought a 1990 snowblower attachment for it and it worked out great but I quickly got tired of switching between the snow blower and plow so I decided to buy another tractor. That turned out to be a 1973 “no name” 10HP 8 Speed. After about a week I got it running, trans unstuck, notched the right foot board to accommodate the blade angle lever, and the usual catching up on maintenance from years of neglect.

6 pointsI’ll also say, that having e-pay options and local FB requests to plow, I’ve taken on many more customers and not needed to leave my truck. I plow, send a complete picture, they pay, I’m on the way.
-
6 pointsHave PP, Venmo and Zelle. Use primarily Zelle, but have used all three with no issues or fees... Well... uhm... er... Now about that $80 I owe you for the Brinley... honest I planted some pennies in @Pullstart's field. As soon as they grow I'll give you the first $80 off the top...

5 pointsI had a factory set on a 1277 so these are from memory, “might be a bit different!” (Standard 12v tractor lights) Used a knuckle, that’s what I call it, on the end of a 30” x 5/8” steel rod, drilled tapped 3/8-16 utilizing a stud and cap nut. Two wire assembly to assure a solid ground Crimp on connection for hassle free hood removal There’s two 3/8-16 bolted to a threaded rectangular plate between the frame, mimicking factory Closer look at the stainless hardware, that is a metric thread in the knuckle, (euro part) The soft bend sweeps buy the cradle front tightly, has to be just so, plumb to clear I preferred the standard 12v light assembly with options to twist in all directions, do not care for the little bug eye looking factory assemblies! The 5/8 hot rolled steel can be formed quite easily by hand just make identical measurements on both sides. Basic & simple See the hood is very close and the button I put in from a very unstable method used by who-ever owned this hood, bought at big show over a decade ago! Don’t find these as often anymore but I perused eBay, they were actually IH Red!

5 points@Ed Kennell I didn’t need one when I was young either! Winter of 1984-85 when I was 14 with my Work Horse. My parents got me the plow for Christmas that year. Note the red hat, it’s an insulated winter genuine Wheel Horse hat! I wish I still had it.

4 pointsBased on the recommendation of another RS member, I picked up a small medical crane for moving disabled people. Excellent for lifting small engines.

4 pointsI’ve been unfortunate to have back problems since I was in my twenties. Now I won’t even attempt to lift anything heavy. If someone asks me for help lifting something heavy have to apologize and say I simply can’t do it. I’d rather have someone be mad for not helping than be laid up for a week or more. When I bought the loader for my C-141, the guy said he felt like he was selling his best friend! He then explained anytime he needed to move something heavy he didn’t need to call anyone, he just used the loader. Now I know what he was talking about! The funny thing is though, like many of us here(I’m sure) my back has gone out picking up something that weighs next to nothing. Once I attempted to pick up my underwear off the bathroom floor and BOOM 🤯 I was down on my hands and knees in excruciating pain. When I crawled out of the bathroom my wife knew right away what happened. She had to help me in bed where I spent the rest of the day. I feel like I could have jinxed myself just talking about having my back go out!!

4 pointsGot my new scale model building desk in & built. 48" wide x 30" deep. This is just the scant beginnings... LOTS of storage and organizing items arriving in the next week. Shelves. Bins. Tool holders. Nice bright wide light. More new tools, supplies & several model kits.

4 pointsI have a chain fall connected to an 8x8 beam and a HF hydraulic lift table. Still a bit of a lift to get it on the bench but more of a slide than a lift. Save your back. There are so many lifts in it. I don't care what kind of shape you're in, how many times you've lifted weights or how macho you think you are. Doesn't take much to get something in the back out of sorts. Going 6 years on my back surgery and I'm sure if I live another 10 yrs. they will have to do the other side. Already starting to feel the symptoms.

4 pointsI always felt safe surrounded by two ton of iron in my 16yo crew cab. But after I started driving like an 80yo with fading eyesight, hearing, depth perception, and a neck that doesn't turn, I now prefer Mrs.Ks new SUV with lane control, panic braking, blind spot warning, auto dimmers, and back up camera.
-
4 pointsThats cool ... not making pennies anymore so I'll save the pennies until they become really valuable and make more than 80 ... Were you allowed to close your commercial account Bob? How did you get back to FF? They told me ther will be a bevy of beauties at my door and other perks if I went to business. Yah right Dan shows up at my door ... well ok I use PP to pay Pullstart to be my friend. What's that Sylvia? My bank wants me to sign up for that. Yes all we use is plastic at car washes. Can you use other methods to pay dues here Coach @nylyon? I guess the thing with PP is it's so universal. I don't think any of our vendors here or any other places we get tractor parts from use anything else, other than regular plastic.

4 pointsPlowing snow this season, and selling stuff on Marketplace, I’ve had to upgrade from sticks and stones. I have PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, and Venmo is by far the most popular. I even got a Venmo card, allowing me to use the balance people pay me as a debit card. That’s nice, because I can use it for all business purposes. Then when tax time comes around which I dread so much, I can at least grab the majority of my transactions right from electronic accounts.

4 pointsUncle Jim, If it is someone here that is established and just a few bucks, around <$100 ish, I just send the part and ask for a check or money order to be sent in return. I have never / ever had an issue with a RS guy. Outside of that, I use PayPal and just pay the fees, expensive but does add a layer of protection. I am not sure is PayPal and Venmo siblings? I have a Venmo but have not used it. Just read this on the net but have never tried it PayPal and Venmo are now connected, allowing users to send money directly to each other using their phone numbers or email addresses, which started in November 2025. This integration simplifies the process for the combined 2 billion users of both platforms, eliminating previous workarounds for transferring funds.

Onan engine stationary guard horse head insert bushing installed after heating with hair drier so clips do not break Bushing simply snaps into place and is properly orientated by a locating pin. Onan engine stationary guard horse head insert bushing back side showing retaining clips and locating pin. Onan engine stationary guard horse head insert bushing installed. Looks much better than the Toro insert.

3 pointsYou may have backed into some snow and it has got on the transmission pulley/belt causing it to slip. That does not happen for long and the belt gets it's grip back. Going forward you have usually removed the snow ahead of the pulley so does not happen then. Been there done that.
-
3 pointsGuys that’s too funny, fortunately for me I rarely get pushback on any purchases, except the time I bought that $85k truck that was met with a raised eyebrow.
-
3 pointsYou can use PayPal, check or money order or cash (but you shouldn’t send cash in the mail). These methods are automated in this software so when paying with PayPal the transaction is instant. Check, money order and cash are manual. I trust the supporters, when the check is in the mail and the supporter has run out I will approve the transaction prior to receiving the check. It would be possible to pay with other methods, but that would need to happen personally between you and me.
-
3 pointsDouble check the hubs/input pulley first. Put witness marks on them & see if you have sheared a key. Any strange noises indicating you may have stripped a gear? Drain the oil and look for bits of silver and metal flakes.

3 pointsA friend of mine had a cash only car wash. He installed card readers and quadrupled his business. He said it was well worth the expense.
-
3 pointsI used to have a PayPal commercial account. I had to pay a fee. Now I'm back to a personal account and use PayPal friends. No fee. I also have Venmo and Zelle, but prefer the ease and reliability of PayPal.

2 pointsInterestingly, my back seems to go out less often than it used to, and for shorter periods of time (touch wood). I joke that it's because there aren't many discs left to mash. Or maybe I'm just subconsciously being more careful. I've lost over two inches in height over the decades, which might give you an idea of how I've used/abused my back. Be careful with that heavy stuff.
-
2 pointsI'm inclined to agree with Earl. My pickup is 34 years old. Everything works as it should. Personal property tax was $5.42 for 2025. It's a good deal cheaper to repair than wife's ten year old Durango. I actually like it's simplicity. Wife usually locates and pushes on her touch screen two, three or more buttons before backing out of garage. I paid about $3,500 for it ten years ago with 180K miles. I've kept records of all expenses (other than consumables such as tires, motor oil and fuel) and have spent $3,000 including the last major oil seal repairs I posted a couple of weeks ago at it's current 235K miles.
-
2 pointsI quit accepting PayPal since they send a 1099 every year. If you sell a couple buckets of parts you will need to show enough expenses on a Schedule C to avoid income tax. Kinda takes the fun out of a hobby when you need to be an accountant. I now take cash, check or postal money order, if the customer has to use something else there will be no sale.
-
2 pointsI have a narrow pan wheel horse spec (iso mount) engine that I can rebuild for you. This is my last k341 narrow pan that I will be rebuilding before I retire. Over the years I’ve rebuilt engines for guys on this site and people can vouche for my work. I tear the engine down to the bare block, bore, grind crank, grind seats, surface head, ream new guides, new piston, rings, rod, valves, wrist pin, seals and gaskets, carb rebuild and bring everything back to factory Kohler specs. I don’t take short cuts. Contact me if you are interested. I don’t want to spend the money on the build just to have it sit. located in Mechanicsville, VA The photo isn’t the actual engine but it will be similar.

2 pointsI hate taxes. So I'm a cash with no receipt or sales record kinda guy. Probably my biggest peeve is the 6% PeeAaa sales tax that is collected on a new vehicle and again, and again, and again every time it is resold.

2 pointsPaul's my hero alright ... lookit the way he's got the white flying. On a square hood with a short chute no less! Now that's the way it should be done. Without this cab & deuce & 520 nonsense... ahh well... I plow with a round hood and a techy and no chains. Can I get in the man club?

2 pointsAs we all know way to well stuff gets misdirected/lost possibly forever in the mail. That said I absolutely dislike all of the e pay nonsense. Its convenient I guess and immediate. Personally I can wait. Part of being an older human. I have sent members parts and/or checks. Never big money. You guys I can trust. We should set a meetup point when we have to take down the rising machines... Kidding/not kidding. Always trust yourself. You are probably right!

2 pointsNever had a greasy ground hog. They are better than chickin. Try bear, geese, and raccoon if you want greasy.

2 pointsWelcome to Red Square. Look at these illustrated parts lists (IPL) so you know what the complete assembly consists of. The blade depending on age could be 42" wide. All are considered long frame tractors is why they all fit. Some are more refined than others. The operator manuals will help you understand how they go together.

2 pointsRight side cover ready to install. I punched some ventilation holes with an electrical knockout punch. This is a cover I had on hand and is not in perfect condition as it has some pitting and a wear hole at the very top. The one from this tractor originally had the bolt near the front for the plastic belt cover that I am not using on this build. Right side cover hardware ready to install. Tractor ready for right side cover to be installed. Right side cover speed nuts installed. Right side cover sat in place. Right side cover loosely bolted into place.
