This little saga began in November. I have had hand tremors for several years and started a new prescription to deal with them. In early January I developed shingles and my doctor prescribed two medications; they stopped the shingles in their tracks. A few days later I began having tremors throughout my body, two of the medications were having a battle and neither one could be stopped clod turkey. My doctor developed an accelerated plan to get me off both. They weren’t shown as being incompatible. This resulted in me being sedentary for about three weeks. In all likelihood this resulted in the blood clots forming Monday, January 26. I was feeling good and spent some time exercising. The next morning was normal, then after lunch I experienced a severe pain behind my right ribcage. Paramedics took me to our local hospital and after some imaging I was transferred to the hospital in Asheville, NC, The following morning doctors removed several blood clots from my right lung. One of the clots was six inches long. Further imaging showed no further clots. They also discovered that I had Atrial Fibrillation and stopped then restarted my heart putting it back in normal rhythm. Under normal circumstances I would not have been released the same day but with the impending snow storm they sent me home. Thank God for all of the wonderful medical professionals who cared for me.

I had a factory set on a 1277 so these are from memory, “might be a bit different!” (Standard 12v tractor lights) Used a knuckle, that’s what I call it, on the end of a 30” x 5/8” steel rod, drilled tapped 3/8-16 utilizing a stud and cap nut. Two wire assembly to assure a solid ground Crimp on connection for hassle free hood removal There’s two 3/8-16 bolted to a threaded rectangular plate between the frame, mimicking factory Closer look at the stainless hardware, that is a metric thread in the knuckle, (euro part) The soft bend sweeps buy the cradle front tightly, has to be just so, plumb to clear I preferred the standard 12v light assembly with options to twist in all directions, do not care for the little bug eye looking factory assemblies! The 5/8 hot rolled steel can be formed quite easily by hand just make identical measurements on both sides. Basic & simple See the hood is very close and the button I put in from a very unstable method used by who-ever owned this hood, bought at big show over a decade ago! Don’t find these as often anymore but I perused eBay, they were actually IH Red!

Got to play today in the garage and work on this weak corner of this 48" deck. Wasnt sure how to go about making the patch with all the angles and round overs but it worked out. I cant weld worth a crap to be pretty, but it holds and solid. I just got a 220 Harbor Freight flux core mig welder. But Im learning. I plan on get some 75/25 gas to see if I can do better maybe. Plus thin gauge metal aint my thing, I can do better with the thicker stuff. Lol

Interesting to me that such attention is paid to something so inaccurate. But then, a baseball lifetime batting average of .350 would get you into the Hall of Fame.

This also means that at least the heads of the two screws got swallowed into the engine. Since it’s in the shop already, I would order up a new head gasket and then pull the head to have a look see for scratched cylinder walls, valves, or valve seats.

Supposed to get above freezing and start raining. Got Murphy about six years ago. First time in the snow. Gotta admit I would have loved to spend time with him and a plow. Dunno about the rest of us in N.C. Cannot justify a plow... Although my driveway is gravel.. Hmm After shoveling 4 previous neighbors and two current neighbors I made the perilous journey to check on my plants. Baby space heater. Now power no plants. I need to find an affordable generator. Food, replaceable. Pipes freeze I can fix. Plants are replaceable as well however some of mine are priceless and some of my oldest relationships. Ex. I have a bay leaf that I rooted from a cutting. Real pita. It is @ebinmaine tall now and just fits in the center. Almost planted it this spring. One cold year in my time here. Glad I trusted myself. It would likely come back from the ground. The top would have certainly perished. Avocado tree I moved here from NE 13 years ago. Should be at about tree puberty this year. Long post Sorry

Specs? Yell out loud. In the store. Now yell through the muffler. What sends the chickens flying further? I popped this Cherry Bomb on in 2013 due to necessity, I needed a muffler and had this laying around. Now it’s custom and cool.

I can’t imagine what it takes to pull a clot from a lung, but I’m super glad they have the ability to do so! Glad to have you still kicking around, Mr. Richard!

I've been welding for years, and I'm still not as good as I should be. I can make two pieces of mild steel stay together, and that is about it. Anything more is what grinders with flap discs are for...

Another option you could go with is a Cub muffler, as it has a 1 inch end on it so you would just need a hose clamp instead of having to weld it on. One thing I have seen on here about stacks and am going to repeat is that you need to put a brace on the bottomed of it. @ri702bill has a good photo of the brace he has on his tractor

I know a lot of guy want to keep things "original" but if it was mine, I would chop the wires out of the block and get individual weatherproof fuse holders. I went a step further on the 520 I had. I got some 4 wire flat trailer wires with a long pigtail and moved everything including chopping out that crappy 9 pin Molex connector to the opposite side of the tractor to get it away from the exhaust heat. I used electrical wire markers and 2 trailer plug sets. I marked one plug "A" and the other "B" and documented which electrical circuit was in each plug and what color the wire was. This maintained the ability to disconnect the engine side of the harness.

November 4 is when our snow started and the road salting started. All of my summer cars get put away at that point so they don't get salt on them. I go from 5 cars and 10 wheel horses down to one car and one wheel horse from that point until the roads get cleaned up and the temperatures start staying above freezing likely around mid to late April. It would be nice to be able to use my toys more than half of the year.

Fender decal ready to be applied. Terry's decal is perfect as always. Fender cleaned, de-greased and ready for decal. Fender decal measures 27.5 inches long. Fender decal center marked at 13.75 inches. Tractor ready to be raised. Tractor raised to make decal application easier. Distance between tail lights measures 11.75 inches. Fender center marked 5.875 (5-7/8") inches from a tail light (either one). Distilled water with a drop of dish soap used to wet down decal and fender for decal placement. Fender decal backing removed then the backside of the decal was sprayed with water soap mix. Fender sprayed with water soap mix. Fender decal gently applied to fender lining up the center marks and aligning just below the top body line on the fender. Water squeegeed out from behind decal ensuring the decal remains centered, even, and that there are no bubbles behind it. Squeegee is simply a piece of teflon wrapped in heavy duty paper towel. Fender decal applied. As the water dries from behind it over the next few days, some additional squeegeeing might have to be done.

Cool, @ebinmaine I used to build kits pretty regularly from about 10-15 or 16. It was to the extent I started “kitbashing” like putting a viper engine in a Ford F-1. I’ve got them somewhere around here. I’ll grab some pics if I find them later. 3D printing and resin casting have really brought modeling to another level. There are groups on Facebook, that looking at some of the pics you would think it was a 1.1 car with scratch building down to caps on different fluid containers etc….

Here is how I braced mine I attached it to the clamp on the bottom of the muffler. With another piece of bar coming from the other side of the frame and bolted to the bar on the muffler side. Like others have said if you are just getting a TSC muffler a Cub muffler works best I believe it's labeled as IH-1

Thanks guys. Those were my thoughts excactly. I did that before I even tried starting it. No dmage at all. I thought for sure it would show up on the piston or on the head. But, Lucky for me? Just some little nicks in the carbon that was there. I cleaned all that up, lapped and set the valves. Good compression test. I mean seriously. I guess these Kohlers can"EAT" a little brass and spit it out like it just doesn't care. I just know I cannot save this carburetor.

Richard, you are the proverbial "Timex watch" guy. Takes a licking and keeps on ticking. I'm glad you are on the mend. Afib is not fun. I was first diagnosed with Paroxysmal Afib in 1995 and it has been getting progressively worse ever since. In 2019 I was put on blood thinners to prevent blood clots and strokes. I'm now considering an ablation to electrically kill the nerves that are triggering the Afib. But enough about me. Richard, we are glad you are back.

Did you clean and check the area under that height adjuster bracket? All of the decks I've had that needed repairing had damage under that bracket. High stress area.

Holy cow @ebinmaine ! Yes that is our tanker trailer. It was originally pulled buy a 1969 cabover Ford with a 534 cu.in. gas motor coupled to a 10-speed Road Ranger. That’s how I learned to drive a tractor trailer, with that combo. I was on the truck purchasing committee when we replaced the Ford with a brand new 1996 Peterbuilt 379 with a 425hp Caterpillar and a 9-Speed Fuller Roadranger. Still using that truck and trailer, 6200 gallon capacity. I’ve taken it to many fires and parades across the county.

Thanks for the update Richard. Sure glad the help was there to figure out the problem and discover the afib while help was available. Mrs. K had her first afib attack about three years ago at home and of course we assumed it was a heart attack. After some training on how to recognize an attack and several ways to physically get the heart back in rhythm, her following attacks were easier to deal with. The meds she is on now have prevented attacks for two years.

I love seeing the snow, no fun being in it. I am glad I still have a push blade, although in pieces in a shed. I need to get it back together. I have a gravel driveway also, kinda. We got 10-14” around the property. Way too much for this Florida boy. I don’t know how you guys up north do it.

Got the 523H out to play in the snow. She kept staring over the fence at the cows... No way my other tractors would have driven so well. Those ATV rear tires and fat floaty fronts did very well in the deeper spots.

Would have to pull the shroud which we suggested he do anyway. Then just the side cover to run the new line. Speaking of wiring Bob for the pump i just tapped into the jumpered seat switch to run it. Wiring diagram shows it gets power from the key switch. 520 anyway. I jumper all my seat switches.

January 28, 1985, Music stars gather to record “We Are the World” The special instruction Quincy Jones sent out to the several dozen pop stars invited to participate in the recording of “We Are the World” was this: “Check your egos at the door.” Jones was the producer of a record that would eventually go on to sell more than 7 million copies and raise more than $60 million for African famine relief. But before “We Are the World” could achieve those feats, it had to be captured on tape—no simple feat considering the number of major recording artists slated to participate. With only one chance to get the recording the way he and songwriters Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wanted it, Jones convened the marathon recording session of “We Are the World” at around 10 p.m. on the evening of January 28, 1985, immediately following the conclusion of the American Music Awards ceremony held just a few miles away.

My wife came out to the shop to see what I was doing and took a couple of pictures of me on the tractor. Of course no shoes are allowed yet, have to keep it clean. My truck and her Explorer are sitting under cover waiting for spring whenever it finally gets here. Hopefully by mid April.

Fender protectors ready to install with double side tape. These protectors are just 2 inch diameter hard plastic discs that I grabbed from work years ago, I don't know what they were from. Fender protectors double side tape installed. Tape is 1" wide so two strips are required. 2 inch punch used to trim excess tape. Fender protector double side tape trimmed. Fender protector showing double side tape backing removed from one. Fender protectors installed. Seat installation complete.

Seat assembly ready to install. Tractor ready for seat to be installed. Towels on tractor to protect paint. Seat sat on towels. Seat pivot bracket carefully sat on exposed fender. Because of the towels under the seat, the bracket is just barely touching the fender. Seat pivot bracket bolts loosely screwed into fender. Seat pivot bracket carefully sat on exposed fender right side. Seat pivot bracket bolts loosely screwed into fender right side. Seat was then centered side to side then bolts were tightened. All bolts then torqued to 200 in-lb. Seat installed.

I use one of these paint can openers with a little extra bend in the blade. as a pry bar. I have my doubts on moving the pulse pump back under the tank. Seems that large increase in the volume of air in that long vacuum line would really reduce the effective range of the pulse. Lowering the pump below the tank will prevent it from losing prime, but it still has to pump a lot of fuel to reach and fill the carb. I would go with the epump for instant startup.
