20 pointsAs a Senior Citizen it is my obligation to keep the medical employed. After four days in the hospital I am now home and well, God is good. Details to follow.

10 pointsReminds me of driving in my first snowstorm. I was heading to the gas station in my pickup with no weight in the bed, thought I’d impress my friend in the passenger seat. Gave it a little gas, thought I’d drift around in bend in the road but lost control. Slid across the oncoming lane (thank goodness nobody was coming!) hit the telephone pole with the passenger door. We didn’t get hurt, we were probably only going 15-20 mph. So I drove back home and went in the house. First thing my dad says is we have no power in the house. Then he said, and this is the part I’ll never forget “ First snowstorm of the year and our power is out. I’ll bet some A hole hit a pole and knocked out the power!” I then had to sheepishly admit it was me!

8 pointsOoooooooooo, Me likes model building! Did tons of those kits when we were kids. Not sure how we survived sucking in all of that nasty glue vapor. Then somehow got started with doing originals like this one. (For those that may not have seen this before)

7 pointsI found this from an Aries and it has the same Welch Style connector with a roller pin setup. It's local for sale. I'm going to see how this look...hope not too funny but if it functions for me, may be worth it? I'll send some pics after.
-
7 pointsYou mean to tell me @Pullstart isn't obligated to keep the medical field pushing ahead with medical advancements? I just wish our hospital would get rid of the guy in charge of purchasing so we can get a boiler fixed before we actually have to have it!

5 pointsSo sorry Joe. Listen to what your body is telling you. 11 yrs. ago I started getting acid reflux after eating out for my wife's birthday. I never get acid reflux so I let it pass. 3 days later I'm at work and start getting it again. Plus I'm really feeling crummy. I had gotten a flu shot the same day I started having issues. I thought I was coming down with the flu. I went home at noon. Had to pick up an item at a friends house. On the way back as I was stopping for an intersection, both of my hands fell off the steering wheel. I managed to drive the remaining half mile home. Told my wife what happened and she called my doctor. He says get to the hospital. One blood test showed a marker for a heart attack. I get shipped to the city for an angioplasty. I had the "Widow Maker LAD blockage and got 2 stents. At work with other guys if I get tired I stop. If any of the young guys say anything I tell them they will most likely be in the same boat someday. I fix stuff with what I know. I tell them push that or turn that. My hero days are behind me.

5 pointsWhere I used to live all we needed was snow forecast for a few days out and someone would be kind enough to take out the pole across the street, and our power with it.

4 pointsSeat pivot brackets and bushings ready to install. Seat pivot plate ready for pivot brackets to be installed. Seat pivot bracket with bolt and washers slid on. I add a washer to the inside to space the bracket out slightly so it does not rub on the pivot plate. Seat pivot bracket bushing greased with silicone grease and installed into pivot plate. Right seat pivot bracket and bushing installed. Left seat pivot bracket and bushing installed. Seat pivot bracket bolts torqued to 200 in/lb.

4 pointsGotta get all you us ole timers on Karl's emergency call list. Never know when you might climb up in your tree stand and forget to come home.

4 pointsI just talked with Richard's wife, and she says he's fine and should be home later today. I'm not going to elaborate any more than that. That will be up to Richard. He's doing well and we'll hear from him soon I'm sure of that!

3 pointsFinally getting back to some work on my 522xi. About a week or so ago I feathered, primed, and sanded all of the rusty and flaky spots on the fender, and then re-primed and re-sanded it. Here it is in progress: I spent most of the past few days trying to learn the basics of Blender software (any Blender users here?), which has a considerable learning curve that makes my brain hurt a bit, so I needed to take a break today. This afternoon I painted the underside of the fender. I'll let it cure for a few days before flipping it over and painting the top. I hope to put it back together and get the snowblower installed in time for spring.

3 pointsWho cares as long as it works for you. Changing the wheel is your best bet and it can always be changed back. The biggest challenge is going to be getting that original steering wheel off the shaft.
-
3 pointsThe original Kelch 3 spoke steering wheel on my C81 broke at the hub while in use a couple of years back. Seems to be a common problem with the overmolded plastic cracking and spreading off the hex shaped hub... My solution was to use a 2 piece adapter machined to fit the Classic Aftermarket line of Grant Industries Steering Wheels (mine kind of looks like the 420LSE one) These wheels come in many diameters and dish depth.... deeper dish raises the rim.

3 pointsI have a set of 4 link V bar chains that you can have. They were on 23-9.5-12 AG tires. I switched to rubber chains and turf tires because the V bars were too rough on my asphalt drive. I live about an hour north of you in Walled Lake Michigan

3 pointsOK. I'm in mentor mode now with the robotics team. Gotta ask how well you think that worked out? The next question is what did you learn?
-
3 points@Beap52 I seem to be the one in my family who now has all that kind of stuff. Other family members keep dropping off pictures, old newspaper clippings etc off and it’s driving my wife nuts! She keeps saying what are we going to do with all this stuff? And when are we going to properly sort it out and/or even look at it? I’m hoping to have a night with my relatives so we can look at old slides soon. Seems like it would be a nice way to spend a cold winter’s night.

3 pointsThanks Randy great news ... I'm still gonna put him on report for going AOL & chew his rear for making us worry! Don't worry not gonna send him to Captain's mast. May confine him to a computer & extra duty with this day in history posts tho...

2 pointsJust a bit of advice I got from an old welder / Blacksmith many years ago, and have made it a practice of mine: Get aggressive with your chipping hammer, while the bead is still cherry red, it works like a forging operation and adds strength to any weld. (Chipping hammers are not only for chipping off slag)
-
2 pointsEither add to the upper steering shaft with a locking collar from McMaster Carr... Or... There are many steering wheels on the market for vehicles that have different (deeper) "dish" depths and diameters. This is a Sweet brand racing wheel. @kpinnc could comment here.

2 pointsWe gotta do our part. Just got the bill for my five day medical vacation in December. Just South of $50K. Thankful for decent health insurance. Best wishes for a speedy recovery...the Show is just around the corner.

2 pointsYesterday I was in town and saw they began to demolish the old Baptist Church, daycare and gym buildings. There is a large commercial playscape at the daycare that about 25 years old, but is in pretty good condition since it had a shade structure over it. The is a excellent Nonprofit called the ARK. https://arkofhighlandlakes.org that service our greater Highland Lakes area. One of their many programs is a large duplex housing community which has program to mentor and train families to transition them from the street and poverty. The director had previously said they would like to have a playscape for this property. So it hit me and I got the wheels turning to try and recycle this playcape. The demo contractor project manage was agreeable, with a few conditions that we could agree to and a fairly fast removal time line. Thankfully this is a large property and it will take them 3-4 weeks to get enough dumpsters for all the building material. The ARK directors asked if i would take on this removal project and temporary storage. I was able to contact the playscape manufacture and got and original layout drawing and a few removal recommendation. They said they can provide new parts for a few of the domed windows and parts some vandals had dammaged. This morning I took some tools and tested removing bolts from the main frame which went well. Unfornatualy the short Allen bolts with the flat round domed flush nuts on the panels just spun when I tried to remove them. If anyone has a suggest how to get these out, there is roughly a 100 of them. My one idea is to get a battery powered grinder and tried to cut a screwdriver slot in the domed head or grind the head off without damaging the pannel. There are about 20 post or legs with concrete footings. I dug down at a few of them and found there is about 1 ft. of gravel fill above the concrete footing. The demo contractor offered to provide a machine (skid steer or excavator) to pull them out when we had everything else removed. I have two thoughts on post removal which hopefully can be done without bending up the post or other legs One is to dig down to the top of the post to get to the concrete so a choker sling can be attached to pull up right at the top of the concrete. The other is get a jack hammer and hit the footings around the post to see if the concrete can be broken up some. (which would be a lot of work) The ARK will help me get a couple of volunteers for the disassemble/removal. My first order of busines is making some sketches with a numbering routine to mark all the parts for reassemble. I thinking of using a paint pen for marking, and appreciate any suggestions for marking that will last a while. I don't know if we will get the shade structure as someone else (a demo boss?) was looking at it. So this will keep me busy for awhile. then installation will be an even bigger future project.

2 pointsI've been busy enough this week I didn't notice his daily fun-fact posts missing. I'm glad to hear he is alright though.
-
2 pointsYeah it's really awesome getting such a perfect cut really simply. If the air jack on the press worked right it would have been even easier, got an arm workout instead. Yep got all 4 hubs that I don't currently have on tractors done. I probably need to pull the hubs off the running tractors and do those as well. I know for sure at least one set is worn. Definitely worth it! I thought about buying a set but it's not something that gets used extremely often. Used plenty of cutting oil, so it's still good for more use Drives me nuts when people don't use oil to cut or drill metal and are shocked when the bit is dull running at full speed with the end of the bit glowing red I have not actually checked the spindles yet. I might be able to tomorrow.
-
2 pointsKinda fun doin them ain't it? Do the other side right away and run two set screws. Heck do all your plow mules while yer at it! The full broach set was 200 and I got it with a coupon in the jungle for 100 . More it gets used the more it pays for itself. Did those spindles work?
-
2 pointsIn the past, I've posted pictures of my 1947 sedan delivery that I've owned since 1972. Here's a model that I put together probably 25 years ago. Actually the model's color is closer to original. I've owned it longer than I been married and that's been 48 years and two days. Not a model but scratch-build of my idea of a log cabin for my train layout. The cabin is built of foam board of the kind used on houses. Even the shingles on the roof is foam. The metal roof is aluminum foil that is rolled over the threads of a bolt to make corrugations and painted with primer.
-
2 pointsI have an old motorcycle that was built before fork oil was a common product. The instructions were to use a 50-50 mix of ATF and motor oil, so I guess they mix just fine.
-
2 pointsThanks to @WHX?? for letting me use the broach set. I was able to use my neighbors press to get some new keyways cut for the hubs. I have 2 sets, I will use the heavier set for this tractor.
-
2 pointsMight be difficult to drill if they just spin If grinding the slot doesn't work maybe grind an X into the heads and chisel / break them off. Probably more control and less heat than just grinding the entire heads all the way off .
-
2 pointsMe thinks we are hijacking Big Unit's thread ... well what comes around goes around and that's what he gets for a hobby that most of us had.

2 pointsD series are NOT easy to work on....The had a guy hold the hydro pump in the air and then built a tractor around it
